    In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: To avoid powergaming, I always make sure my character’s actions are realistic and fair. I never force actions or outcomes on another player’s character, and I give them the chance to react in their own way. I also make sure my emotes stay within the limits of what my character could reasonably do, instead of trying to perform impossible or unfair actions. Roleplay is collaborative, so I focus on keeping interactions balanced and respectful.
    In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay because it breaks the separation between in-character and out-of-character knowledge. When a character acts on information they realistically shouldn’t know, it removes tension, ruins storylines, and gives an unfair advantage over other players. It also makes interactions feel less genuine and can undermine the collaborative nature of roleplay. I avoid metagaming by only using information my character has learned in-character.

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Example: I am Lorian Rey of the Heartlands. I have come seeking answers and justice. This town, hidden in the shadows, may hold the key to a threat that endangers the realm. I mean no harm to those who live here, but I will not leave until I know the truth.

I sit on the cushion, keeping my gaze respectful but firm, ready to hear the old woman’s story.


"Oh, I just, uh…" you stutter, tensing up. You eye the crone, then back outside the tent. For a moment, the air thickens with anticipation, until…
