  3. “Big surprise! They didn’t accept the offer! Guess we’ll have no choice but to fight the fiercesome dagger ears!” Jack would say to nearby members of the Brotherhood sarcastically. “Perhaps instead of permitting their idiotic kind who don’t realize they’re even at war into the city, we should start detaining them and clipping their disgusting ears?”

((Why this song for this post? ?))

  4. [!] A note given to Aeden verifying the endorsement

You have my endorsement as High Steward of Reza. The Wick boy is too young and I believe your plans to be better than his. I should say though, the clinic is already being renovated. Best of luck in your election.

    Sincerely,

    Peter Bisk

An airtight uniform? The rat wonders how this technology is accessible with the teck lock of Lotc.

Excuse me sir, we’re trying to RP here smh

The Rat’s many fleas would spring off of it. Going to begin sucking the blood of the exterminator, giving his foul soul the deadly disease they carried, incurable by modern science.... “Squeak Squeak Squeak” the Rat said joyously, as it became a martyr for the cause.

The foolish rat and it’s fleas should have known that the exterminator would be wearing an airtight uniform, one which the fleas could not penetrate. After all, he IS an exterminator, why would he not be wearing proper exterminator gear? The fleas, in defeat, jumped out of the moving van’s window, hoping that the fall would end their lives.

The exterminator would see the plague bearing rat and catch it with a net. He’d then throw the rat into the back of his van, storing it for later extermination.

It’s unlikely the economy will be fixed this map, mostly there will be tests run for future endeavours.

I figured, too difficult to fix it on this one when everyone basically has massive **** off stockpiles.

  9. Peter would read the Elven declaration sitting at home enjoying a nice slice of Pumpkin Spice Monk Bread thinking to himself...

“They call us barbarians? Surely they’re mad! The barbarians are the ones who are too cowardly to fight and instead take to the tactics of criminals, kidnapping travelers on the road and ransoming them off! The barbarians are the ones who stoop as low as to take children! The SAVAGES are the ones who mistreat children in the name of a “just cause”! If the Elves are in support of these monsters, they are the barbarians and will dealt justice swiftly! If only these damned earthquakes would end!”

Peter would then arise from his chair tossing away the remaining Monk Bread and spit on the floor at the thought of being called barbarians by a bunch of SAVAGES.

LOTC doesn’t need more minas sinks right now. Prices are constantly getting lower and lower as unsold resource stockpiles grow larger and larger. Returning to a scarcity economy would be difficult since most players are used to having enough food/iron/building supplies to get by without having to grind much. What the server really needs right now is more consumption instead of less production in order to sell unsold stocks of goods and get minas flowing more.

What I mean by increasing consumption is the following:

You know how people don’t need to consume drugs/alcohol to survive on LOTC, but frequently do anyways since it’s cool? The creation and sale of drug and alcohol items are a good portion of many settlements’ economies without causing anyone to suffer from a lack of said items. People use these items simply because they are cool and interesting. If the developers were to add more cool features such as the Hoo-Kah plugin, it would increase consumption and create demand for goods without having there be any scarcity of necessary items.

Food could be able to be consumed with a full hunger bar, letting players burn through stacks of food in feasts and have their characters feel like gluttons.

Collectible yet expensive items could be craftable that don’t perform any purpose besides looking rich and flexing on your neighbors.

    Etc.

Nobody wants to have to grind for hours to get PvP gear, yet if most materials remain plentiful and allow for overconsumption to feel cool, there can be an economy that is both fun and functional.

That is my proposal for a better LOTC economy that people won’t hate.

If people are stockpiling huge amounts of resources without use, then that means that there’s too much supply and not enough demand. The two options to fix this are increasing demand or reducing supply, both have the same effect. The question is, which is more likely to happen and is easier for staff to do?

Anything you can grow will always be in ample supply, it’s too easy and requires very little effort. I don’t know the process behind making drugs/alcohol in LotC, but I imagine like real life for the most part they use easily obtainable ingredients. Materials provided at CT rather than the open world, worthless, but it keeps players from having to destroy the world in order to get them. Mineable materials like emeralds, lapis lazuli, and for the most part, gold, are completely worthless. The only materials/goods that have any real value in LotC are land, property (like homes), certain mineable resources like iron and diamond, specialty crafted RP goods, and a handful of goods which are needed regularly like tools, weapons, and armor.

So this brings me to the point I’m trying to make; how do you increase demand for these items? Bringing in more players will increase demand, but also supply so that won’t do it. Relying solely on cool expensive RP goods clearly isn’t doing it. So why do you think increasing demand would work?

Think of the LotC staff as the Federal Reserve, and instead of printing the US Dollar they print resources and mina. Does the Federal Reserve work to increase demand? No! They control the money supply. It’s not realistic to think LotC staff could reliably increase demand in any meaningful way just as it is that the Federal Reserve would be able to.

Resources and goods are so cheap in their current state that if there was going to be a “overconsumption” like you say it already would have happened. Many people, like myself, enjoy playing the economy. It’s very hard to play the economy if there is virtually non-existent due to there being such an excess of resources and goods. In addition, it’s difficult to RP jobs like mining or farming, when those jobs don’t exist because there’s pretty much no point for them to since people can just spend a days worth of mina from voting to obtain everything they need.

Maybe I’m wrong and the vast majority of the playerbase enjoys being able to obtain everything with one click of the mouse. However I’m willing to bet that’s not the case.

  11. So what is this, just a smaller instanced mine that can be refilled for mina and reduces server load? I like the idea of being able to refill mines through mina since that’ll be a pretty big mina sink (assuming that it’s not dirt cheap). If the main intention is to address the server load, I think this is perfect. However, if you’re trying to fix the virtually non-existent economy of LotC, I don’t think this will address it. These are the options I see for fixing the economy...

    1. Make resources a LOT more scarce. Will increase their cost and you’ll see more people specialize in jobs such as mining.
    2. Give less of a reward for voting. I currently get paid like 10 mina a day to be a guard and am making like 200+ a day voting. Granted, I have a feeling my guard pay is ridiculously low, but still I should not be making so much mina a day voting that I can basically afford anything I need.
    3. Introduce more mina sinks. Best way I see of doing this is charging charters/nations mina for existing rather than have activity checks (I think @Ggt recommended this already). It’ll increase taxes, which in turn will increase the costs of all goods sold assuming they’re scarcer than now.
    4. Make it so people can actually PvP again. My understanding is the majority of resources go to war efforts within the game, and with the server being so bad lately, people have just stockpiled huge amounts of resources reducing the need for them.

As for the new mine ideas, I think they’re all good. Specialized mines can be provided to players at a cost of mina, introducing another mina sink, and will lead to certain regions becoming known for certain materials. Adventure mines (assuming they’re what I’m picturing) will provide a PvE experience for players which I think would be a great addition.

  12. This letter is addressed to the leaders of Haense, but additional copies can be found elsewhere

To King Andrik Petyr, The Aulic Council, and members of the Royal Duma,

I came to New Reza a little over a year ago from my family’s small farm, having little knowledge of the greater kingdom or the people in it and nothing to my name. Upon my arrival I was graciously accepted into the Brotherhood of Saint Karl by the Lord Marshal himself, and given work as a miner by Tharik Sturmholm. In the span of the next year, through hard work and the help of others, I was able to amass a small fortune for myself and have found myself in love with the city and its people. It is for that reason I address you today.

Having lived in the city for a year, I have come to find room for improvement which I seek to share with you. Perhaps you all have already considered what I am about to propose, but I feel I should propose it nonetheless...

            I. Expansion of the Markets

Having recently purchased my own stall to sell minerals and stone out of, I noticed the city has not kept up with the demand for places of business. I have spoken with several residents, and it seems further businesses would be opened provided there was space for it. For this reason I propose an expansion of the markets, and more specifically, more shops to operate out of. Not only would this improve the well-being of residents, but would also generate further tax revenue for the crown.

          II. Expansion of Housing

I purchased my own home shortly after my ventures into mining on Bihar Street, and while it suited me back then, I dream of something better. Having looked for vacant homes to move into I’ve come to find a distinct shortage of housing options. I’m sure others feel the same, and for this reason I propose an expansion of housing within the city. More specifically, upper class homes. From my observations, housing for the poorer residents of the city seems to still be available. This will offer residents more housing options, and will provide more tax revenue.

III. The creation of new administrative spaces

In order to continue to foster growth within the city and kingdom, I propose the creation of administrative spaces within the city. Perhaps this can be tied into the expansion of the markets, but I feel there is a need of places for businesses to operate out of. Not only will this be a new revenue source for the crown, but it will cement New Reza as a commercial hub and a place of trade.

Thank you for considering my proposals and may the kingdom forever prosper.

    Your Loyal Subject,

    Peter Bisk

  13. I like the design of this one much more than the current one, seems the surrounding environment fits it a lot better. I think smaller is better though like others have stated, with things being more centralized and shops or whatever closer together. In my opinion, the farm outside the current temple is really only useful to new players, and even then most don’t seem to even use it since they don’t know they need a hoe to harvest. I also like how the roads leading away seem to be exactly where you’d expect them to be, on each side of the temple. Looks very good overall though, I’m excited to play on a fresh map from the start.

Also @seannie‘s idea of an actual CLOUD temple sounds pretty dope.
