  1. A woman sat silent and still within her seat, reading the missive in her lap.

    Three.

Three children, and great-grandchildren at that.

Should see live to see another day, God forbid, she be a great-grandmother. God forbid she torture another of her blood. And yet here she was. Staring at the wall, her lips parted so she may mutter, Was it worth it, Primrose?

To the beloved people of Oren, it fills me with such sadness that I announce my retirement from the position of Surgeon-General and as a medic as a whole. I have served this wonderful, loving, and supportive community as a medic for over forty-five years and Surgeon-General for twelve. In that time, we have together delivered babies into this realm, cared for the sick and wounded, and eased those dying into their final rest. All in all, I had the honor to care for you and your loved ones. As I grow older so too must that honor be passed on to the next generation of medics.

The next generation of medics have been trained under my instruction, but of course they may not know everything. It takes many years to perfect this craft. To this day I still find myself doing something new and experiencing things I have never seen before. As I leave, please see to it that these medics are treated with the same kindness and respect that you all have shown me.

In my place, there will be two new head medics in charge - one for each placement. These medics are like my own children, and I bestow to them this honor with pride.

    Augustus Iomharach, Surgeon-General of Oren.

    Emilie MacPherson, Surgeon-General of Acre.

    Oren aut Mortem.

    God bless Acre.

  3. A Fire Burns

It was quiet within Vienne. Not a soul within sight, not even in the usually bustling square. War had killed it. All but one went to rest for the night. Gravel crackled under the weight of a single pair of footsteps that slowly approached the Church.

The door handle was jangled and tugged, and the dark oak shut behind the white figure that entered the holy building. Footsteps continued until the doctor stood just a few pews from the altar, where a crackling flame burned endlessly through the night. Dark eyes reflected the bright Eternal Flame. Primrose looked on as she reached for her skirt, gathering the starched fabric as she sat.

A flickering orange aura illuminated the doctor’s youthful features as a silent prayer was muttered through her plush lips. Her crimson veiled head bowed low once she stopped, opening a small bag in her lap and carefully dumping the contents into her lap. Her eyes examined each of the valued items, her lips parting as she began to softly sing. Her words bounced off the stone walls of the church and echoed to be heard by… no one.

    Only God would hear her.

    But would he listen?

A ring carefully crafted of shining Aeldenic silver, a floral pattern etched along the surface of the band. Engraved script inside the band read “For my Sunflower.” Ten oval-cut yellow topaz gems trembling the petals of a sunflower surrounded the small circle-cut black onyx gem. A sunflower, something the girl who possessed this beautiful piece of promise valued so much, for a Sunflower. A promise of love, of faith, of heart and home. This was her engagement ring, a stunning piece of work made by Joseph d’Azor.

    Arlo Cooper.

Diamond-lined Qualashi steel and silver intertwined to make this simple band, but it was surprisingly beautiful. Along the side, the date “1842” was inscribed. It was relatively cheap when Primrose bought it. 75 mina for a set of two. This was her wedding band, the only ring on her hand for 40 years.

    Arthur Komnenos.

A hemmed square piece of cloth made of a thin blue fabric. It was a rather simple, common item. One would have often seen her in the midst of a bout of anxiety gently stroking the fabric between her fingers and thumb. It brought her comfort, as it did when it was first handed to her. When her tears had first spilled, and the handkerchief came into her possession.

    Joseph d'Azor.

Red roses with green leaves were embroidered on one end of this silky red ribbon. On the end would be a beautiful crow perched on a branch with its wings extended, as if it was about to take off for flight. The edges had been sown to perfection, and such incredible handiwork was handmade just for her. Before the gift box was even given to her, Primrose thanked him before she even knew what was inside.

    Solomon Obediah.

The ribbon was carefully tied back into Prim’s hair where it would remain. Her veil was set into place and each item set back into the small pouch. Ruffling echoed through the barren building as fabric of her uniform was creased and straightened along with her movement to stand.

No one was around to see her leave.

  4. “Why can’t we all work together to rid of the Azdrazi… Weaponizing and accusing their enemy just for excuses.” An Orenian woman veiled in red muttered hushed in the night. “A good High Pontiff… one with sense, and… compassion, perhaps.”

  5. Dr. Primrose Gendik prepared the St. Amyas Sanctuary clinic with fresh linens, bandages, and other medicinal supplies. Alongside her were her three most trusted students, working diligently to help her prepare. “Your trainings will be more specialized in battlefield wounds.” The woman said to the trio, turning toward the direction Emilie MacPherson, Augustus Iomharach, and Emir de Rosius stood around the workbench. Their hands worked tirelessly as a team, preparing jar upon jar of Tippen’s Root salves. “Remember to be kind, compassionate, and caring. Even to the enemy… unless they start to cause issues, then you can kick their ass.” The veteran grinned at the words of wisdom given to the younger generation.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Alchemy

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Alchemy is the study of the Material Alphabet which makes up all in our material world. It consists of signs and symbols of which can be extracted, manipulated, and/or mixed to create potions and entities - such as something as simple as smelling salts to the complex creation of homunculi.

In order to do such feats, the alchemist participates in the art of equivalent exchange, thus extracting the signs and/or symbols. These signs and symbols are used in combination as would a cook, a “ingredients” to a “recipe,” if you will. Each extraction process varies depending on the desired sign of the symbol one wishes to extract.

While alone, these reagents cannot solely create effects of the recipe, but when signs and symbols of different reagents are extracted and combined, they can create something more powerful as a whole compared to its part alone.

For example, the recipe for Heart Calmer prompts one to extract Mundane Peace, Life, and Order. Some of the herbs one may choose to collect these symbols are Blissfoil (Peace), Goblin’s Ivy (Life), and Frost Vine (Order). When these herbs are wholly used they… well, they have no effect on the heart at all. But when reduced to their basic parts and combined, they have the ability to stabilize a patient’s heart-related condition.

Alchemy is considered a feat, but it doesn’t take up a slot as magics do. This means that an alchemist has access to recipes and the ability to create these recipes that is otherwise unavailable and unable to be done by those without an alchemical feat.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

There are multiple subsections of alchemy which are feats in of themselves as well. One must find the recipes for these in roleplay and in some cases apply for the feat. Some subsections include Tinkering, Tawkin, Infernal Alchemy, and Alteration Alchemy. Alchemy is based on a tier system that still requires time to learn and practice. These subsections still work in the same way.

A student is taught the core recipes of alchemy, including Smelling Salts, Godsflame, and Tanglefoot. However, these subsections similarly follow a tier system and a rarity system which helps keep these recipes relatively rare.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

[1] Dame Primrose Gendik entered her basement laboratory and strode over to the barrels that lined the wall, picking out a variety of herbs and a bottle of alcohol. Returning to the wooden table on the other side of the lab, the woman placed down the items before turning to the alembic and placing the bottle of alcohol inside. After some time, the alcohol inside would become purified and turned into 1x Aqua Vitae.

[2] The doctor placed the bottle on the table and gathered up a matchbox, a mortar and pestle, and a baking sheet from the cabinets. A match was lit and put into the stove’s tinder. Once a fire heated the inside of the stove, 1x Drake’s Tail was placed on the baking sheet and put inside for a few minutes. It would become dehydrated inside, thus prompting the alchemist woman to put on her oven mitt and pull out the sheet. The dry reagent was gently placed inside the mortar and pestle, the sheet on top of the stove while the fire inside soon diminished.

[3] Primrose began to grind down the dehydrated 1x Drake’s Tail until it was a fine powder similar to the consistency of sawdust. Another match was drawn from the box and stuck against the side to set it alight. The tiny flame came to life and was put beside the ground reagent until it caught the flame. It burned away at the substance until it was nothing but ash. Primrose fanned the match of its flame before tossing it into an ashtray always kept on the counter. A magnifying glass and a pair of tweezers were taken from the cabinet as well. The woman used the seeing glass to find the desired symbols - Fire: Heat x3 [1x Drake’s Tail] and set them into a petri dish.

[4] A cloth was doused in spare alcohol and used to clean the inside of the mortar and pestle of the ashes that resided within. That cloth was tossed into a bin against the wall, nearest to the door. Primrose then placed 1x Jailor’s Moss and 1x Serpent’s Stalk into the mortar. Some elbow grease was utilized to grind the reagents with the pestle.

[5] The reagents were then poured into the vat to saturate with the Aqua Vitae inside. Prim took this time to clean up her supplies and put some of them away, then went to take out a funnel, a bowl, and a sieve. Once the Aqua Vitae inside the vat boiled away until only a powder remained from the reagents, Primrose used a ladle to scoop out the powder into the sieve held over the bowl.

[6] Gently, Prim tapped along the sides of the sieve until all the powder would fall through. The sieve was rested on the bowl so she could grab the magnifying glass and tweezers again. Mundane: Chaos x2 [1x Jailor’s Moss], Mundane: Instability x1 [1x Jailor’s Moss], and Mundane: Growth x1 [1x Serpent’s Stalk]. Each symbol was put into a seperate petri dish.

[7] The doctor placed a funnel in the neck of the bottle of 1x Aqua Vitae. Fire: Heat x3 [1x Drake’s Tail], Mundane: Chaos x2 [1x Jailor’s Moss], Mundane: Instability x1 [1x Jailor’s Moss], and Mundane: Growth x1 [1x Serpent’s Stalk] were carefully placed into the funnel in their respective order.

[8] The funnel was taken from the neck of the bottle and set aside on the table. Secured in its place was a cork. Primrose picked up the bottle and palmed the bottle, swirling it about expertly until the liquid inside turned a crimson hue.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

Dame Primrose Gendik escorted her student to the basement laboratory, holding the door open for him and allowing him to shut it for her while going to the wall of barrels line on the wall. “Today we’ll be learning how to make smelling salts. You’ll be learning how to do earth extraction and prove to me that you are familiar with mundane extraction.”

The student nodded as he eagerly listened to the instructions.

The Dame smiled at the man as she placed the assorted tools and herbs on the table. She handed him a pair of leather gloves. “Put these on. The herb we’re dealing with is called Saffvil.” The herb was pointed at within the glass jar it resided in. “It will consume and stick to any dead material, including dead skin and flesh. The only way to kill it is with fire or alcohol, so it is best to wear gloves.”

Arnold looked up to his teacher and nodded. “Put on gloves with saffvil, got it!”

“Take 3 Saffvil and put it in the mortar and pestle and grind it down, just like we learned last lesson.” The woman noted while gesturing to the supplies on the table: tweezers, a salt shaker,  measuring spoons equal to one measure and a half measure, a mortar and pestle, a sieve, and the jar of 6 measures of Saffvil.

Arnold used the tweezers to pick out 3 measures of the Saffvil and put them in his mortar and pestle. He ground down the reagent carefully, then looking to his teacher for his next instruction.

“Now, you will put in a half ratio equal to the reagent you put in. What is half of the Saffvil we put in?”

[!] Arnold wasn’t expecting to have to do a math pop quiz! “There were 3 Saffvil so… 1 and a half, Ma’am.”

Inclining her head, Primrose assured that his answer was correct. “Good, use those measuring spoons to put in that amount of salt. In earth extraction, you must use half a ratio of the reagent you are extracting from. Once you’re done, continue to grind it down until a dull powder is formed."

Arnold removed the lid from the salt shaker and stuck the one-measure spoon inside. The salt was then poured into the mortar and pestle. This was done once again for the half-measure spoonful of salt as well. He began to grind the salt and Saffvil down until inside the mortar and pestle was a dull powder. "Like this?"

“Very good, now sift through that powder, just as you would with mundane extraction. When you’re done, use the magnifying glass and tweezers to pick out 2 Curtailment symbols. ” Primrose said, watching Arnold closely.

Arnold could feel his hands grow clammy, but he poured the dull powder of saffvil and salt inside the sieve. He lightly tapped alongside the sides of the sieve until all the powder went through. Using his magnifying glass and tweezers just as he was taught last lesson, Arnold picked out 2 Earth-signed Curlaiment symbols.

This made the Doctor smile wider, then going to remove her leather gloves. “Beautiful, Arnold. With the rest of this recipe’s reagents, you will perform Mundane extraction. This will be a quiz on how well you know it as last lesson I asked you to practice it and recall for this lesson.”

And so, Arnold the Alchemy student began to learn how to make Smelling Salts with his teacher, Dr. Primrose Gendik.

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

Firstly, I will inform my students that their actions reflect on me as well and I expect the best behavior from them all.

Each situation requires a different approach. We are all human and sometimes we miss out on information and steps - human error. I asked plenty of questions and needed lots of help when I first learned. I completely understand that learning can be difficult and confusing at first. In human error situations, especially for students, I would take them aside OOCly and help them understand what they are confused with or missed. However, if a student power games from sheer laziness, I have no issues dropping them as a student. I will ask that they be dropped and immediately report them to ST.

Do you have a magic(s) you are dropping due to this app? If so, link it:

             No.

Do you agree to keep the ST updated on the status of your magic app?:

             Yes

Have you applied to teach this magic on this character before, and had it denied? If so, link the app.

             No

  7. Madeline Vernhart-Vuiller read the missive, her brows furrowing at paper’s message. She had to read it over and over again. The woman coughed into the handkerchief in her other hand, shaking her head at the missive once again. “He is grown, but still acts like worse than a child.” The woman laid back on the couch across from the fire, resting her blonde head on the pillow by the armrest. “No longer will I let my heartstrings be pulled by such an ill-tempered boy. I did what I could, but he must learn on his own as I did.”

  9. As someone who is currently rping out the OOC consent of geistreach, let me tell you how freakin' hard it is to find a paladin who can purge you.

I've spent my entire week trying to find someone. It's great rp, let me tell you that, but it's so difficult to find a holy mage, find one that can perform whatever purging spell, and find one that is active to heal you following solely roleplay information and networking.

At least having something to help with geistreach and possession would be great. Almaris healthcare sucks LMAO

  10. Very hyped for the new letter types. If there's a physical bird flying though, that's gonna suck for lag. Can't wait for my bird summons for a medic to be shot down though. I do adore the fact that there's a time depending on how close a person is. Very poggers, thank you techteam. You're doing amazin'

The clinic of Vienne, St. Amyas Sanctuary, has been the victim of two targeted arsons, the latter of which burned down to nothing but ash.

It was done by a man named Alfried, whose wanted poster has been distributed by the Imperial Inquisitors.

We are truly thankful that those in the first have have healed well and no one was harmed in the last.

However, we have been left without a place to practice and treat our patients.

A new clinic is ready to be built, but there is a cost we cannot afford.

So, the Orenian Medical Society decided to create a fundraiser in order to fund the construction of our beloved clinic.

    Our goal is 250 mina.

Donations may be sent to the Surgeon-General Dr. Primrose Gendik or her deputies, Emilie MacPherson and Augustus Rozenfeld.

In addition, items will be sold for those who wish to buy and contribute to the efforts.

The support from the community has been overwhelming.

In the days following the fires, the people of Vienne offered their support.

We thank you all for your concern and kind thoughts and prayers.

We thank the people who saved those stuck in the basement during the first fire.

We thank those who put out the flames, who sent birds to alert us of the fires, and who helped clean away the rubble.

We celebrate you and hold you dear to our hearts.

Your help has given us faith in this good community.

We ask one last time for your support so that we may provide you with quality healthcare.

    Thank you.
