Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town?" She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.” ((How do you respond?)) Example: Velulae stiffens at the unexpected hospitality. She should know better than to trust strangers she has just met. Her mother had always warned her that not everyone could be trusted and yet... something about this old hag reminded her of her mother. "I have no story," she murmurs more to herself than to the old hag. Velulae reluctantly sits atop the cushion as she continues. "Not yet, at least. It was my mother's dying wish that I travel, see the world, and make a story for myself. The least I could do is honor that wish. She wasn't my mother by blood, but she took me in and raised me as her own regardless. I apologize, I realize I never gave you my name. I am Velulae." Velulae laughs, but it is tinged with anxiety and forced. She is still learning to carry the weight of her grief and navigate the world on her own. "You remind me of her. I have begun to see her everywhere after her death; in the cabin we shared, in her old books, and even in the forest we called home. She lived a long, fulfilling life for a human, but she was always sickly. Her dream was to have a grand adventure someday when her health improved, but it never did. I plan to do it in her place. I only hope I can forge a story she would be proud of."
