The Elven Revolution was an event in which urban intellectuals, jealous of the Aristocracy used the masses to grasp control. They govern society with theory instead of principle, substitute quantity for quality. Just as the military need well trained leadership, so does society. Irreligious, Rational, Materialistic men sterilize everything by analyzing it; including themselves. Children are considered in terms of "pros" and "cons". Art, architecture, clothing, furniture, music lose their form, becoming ever changing popular fads.

Lacking discipline to reform themselves, intellectual "world improvers" constantly propose theories on how to govern society. All forms of social distinction, good manners, honor, authority, rank are ceaselessly attacked and deconstructed. This process will continue until the idea exhausts itself-- Nihilism and Chaos.

Destiny has put us in this era of decay. We can face our fate with courage, or be cowardly optimists.

Every culture has gone through its own form of Nihilism and Skepsis, where skeptics question everything. How long then, does a Culture survive? After a certain number of generations, each culture transforms into civilization. What was formerly alive, becomes rigid and cold. Expansiveness of mind and spirit is replaced with a lust for expansion in the MATERIAL world. Life guided by ideals is replaced by life guided by politics and economics. The power of these ideas becomes strong, so much that it leads to Imperialism. They enunciate ultimate, but Earthly ideals with practical and terminal ideas. The materialistic ideas of mass and number begin to dominate the culture, governments try to appeal to the most, plebeian catchwords are used "equality" "the common good" "the working man".

In this era of transition, a man emerges... His immense military success is due to ignoring Chivalric military traditions. Materialist thought guides military strategy. Technology and Mass are used to win. Armies shrink in size soon after, into voluntary professional armies, most join for money or love of combat. Armies gradually become privatized, Pacifism becomes popular in reaction, Society becomes increasingly litigious, Money is an Idea, which slowly becomes more abstract, until it itself becomes a power. It buys state power, and over time, the lines separating Politics and Commerce slowly fade away. Business and government combine, forming an Imperial Government.

There are men who desire power, who cannot be stopped.

  2. What about making it so that everyone cannot have their own faction: they have to team up with say 5 people. They would each perform different functions in the nation: maybe one is the general, the other is a ruler of a city in that nation, one would be the Royal Eye and perform intelligence/espionage operations on foreign powers, etc. One would also be the de jure ruler, and act as so. But if the person who plays the ruler goes inactive or quits, someone else's character from that nation becomes the new ruler, and another person is allowed to join the nation to fill in the gap (a nation also cannot have more than five players).

  3. A dark elven female figure states: "Then show me your invisible support, whom so conveniently didn't support staying when the poll was there for the people to decide."

"I ignored the poll as did many others since it was obvious to us that the proposal was ludicrous to begin with. Secondly, how does one trust the results of an anonymous agitator who demonstrates poor experience with elven and international politics in their main argument?"

  4. 1:06, are these mofuggers using Arabic letters? That is a 'haa' or [ه

It appears to be ironically one of the elvish scripts that Tolkien himself invented, Sarati. Tolkien is thought to have been inspired by the arabic alphabet, so that is no surprise to me.

  5. Asthil Haumel peers at the poster. After reading its contents, he speaks.

"Nothing of use can be concluded from the 'referendum' that the strangely anonymous author of this document uses as supporting evidence. It was possible for non-citizens to vote, those who did not even live in Lin'ame, and voting was not compulsory. Intelligent Mali'ame such as myself saw no value in the referendum and so did not participate: the results show that only the logically impaired would find use in participating.

"What should concern us instead is the presence of existing issues raised by existing citizens. From the fact that this poster was delivered anonymously, I cannot be certain that the author is either of these. In such, for as long as the author seeks to hide from logical debate and provoke populist outcry over instead measuredly and convincingly contacting the leaders of Lin'ame about their concerns, these posters shall produce no positive effect."

Asthil Haumel enters, deigning a seat with his weight and keeps one hand upon his sash as he listens to Elorna speak. Composing his neutral face, the wood elf speaks:

"This 'referendum' is inherantly flawed if non-citizens are able to vote, moreso in that voting is not compulsory. Even so, I am willing to hear of existing concerns from existing citizens: let those who know of either, speak."

  7. Did you make up those elven words, or is there a source to it?

If there's a site where the languages are based on, let me see.

The elven language has no preexisting sources, with only one word of exception: uruk, which comes from the word (non-elvish) for orc in Lord of the Rings (ie, 'Uruk Hai').

  8. Since I know people will miss my post, here it is again:

I will attempt to be more civil than just about everyone else who has posted here, in explaining why the Lore Team and Admin Team would not be willing to allow proper gun technology:

First, allow me to address a common response to those who say "No guns allowed!": "Well, look at this fantasy world which happens to have guns in it. It's falacious to think that fantasy and guns are incompatible!" This is correct. However, that is only an argument that applies to fantasy as an entire genre, this leads to the first reason for our opposition:

    I. Lord of the Craft has cultivated for itself its own brand and style of fantasy. Guns interfere with our brand of the fantastical world we have created, and so are disallowed from existing or being developed.

Game of Thrones is a fantasy world. It also does not have guns. The world of Guild Wars 2 is a fantasy world. It does have guns.

The only thing which unifies all fantasy worlds is the very quality of them being fantastical: they contain world elements that do not exist in reality. For example, a world based on ancient greek mythology can be rightfully considered a fantasy world: it has all manner of gods and goddessess, mythological creatures, and so forth. However, we would identify a world based on real greek history and culture to be historical fiction, not fantasy.

Each fantasy world that exists in books or movies or games has its own limitations on certain real-world elements. This is an intentional design feature that if absent, would cripple some of the carefully chosen fantasy elements that a fantasy world has. Sometimes those are technological barriers: imagine if in Game of Thrones, they learned how to make guns. The entire world would be fundamentally different: even with poor-performing muskets in real life, the moment they began to exist was when warfare took drastic turns. In Game of Thrones, warfare has been relatively the same for over 8000 years. In real human history, that would have been plenty of time for people to advance enough to create guns. George R.R. Martin therefore explicitly chose for his world to be absent of guns.

Similarly, the presence of guns or muskets would force our fantasy world to change in a way that would diminish or even negate some very important fantasy elements that we have composed. Sometimes in fantasy this is not a bad thing: plenty of worlds have developed over time and changed drastically through the ages. But many others have not. The staff have decided that Lord of the Craft must remain in the latter group. Our version of fantasy desires lines of warriors and archers, not musketmen and riflemen.

II. In all times when guns have been temporarily allowed/tested or used in spite of their banning, they have lead to quite a lot of misuse and abuse.

Even when given particular disadvantages and explained limitations, it seems that the playerbase is either incapable or unwilling to abide by them. This is the lesser, but still relevant reason why guns are disallowed on the server. People have fundamental conceptions about guns that, given all present evidence, they refuse to abandon in favor of lore and limitations which would make them compatible with other existing weaponry.

  10. Raids are rp. The point of a raid is to disrupt the city's residents. When you make a rule to try to avoid the "breaking of rp" its literally a rule to try to take away the purpose of a raid. Raid is roleplay meant to disrupt the city which it usually does.

This would have been a cogent argument - were it not for the fact that most raids are intenionally performed during a city's low-activity hours. It is not clear to me how one can disrupt a city's residents without them being there.

  11. A letter is delivered to the government of the Imperium Tertius of Oren. The blue-green seal is broken by its intended, and the unfolded document reads:

    A MISSIVE TO ELHEIAL'VALAH,

    THE COUNCIL OF HUMANS:

I write this document in hopes of further demonstrating the goodwill that Mali'lye, Elvenkind, has to offer to Valah'lye, Humankind. This is by no means limited to the governing body of Mali that you have often interacted with: I write to you as a private citizen of Lin'ame that shall inform you all of my offer.

I shall take upon myself two human children as pupils that I, carrying more than two centuries of wisdom, shall instruct. The topics that the students shall be exposed to and the skills that they shall master are here listed:

    • HISTORICAL AND POLITICAL ANALYSIS
      • The students shall learn of the intersecting history between humankind and elvenkind through the ages. Such tutelage shall include important events such as the forming of Haelun'or in Asulon, the animosity between Malinor and her aforementioned sister state, the degeneration of Malinor, the unfortunate period of elven anarchy and the Orenian response to it.

      • The students shall also be informed about broader historical events that have influenced the current international politics. Political declarations across many different events of history shall be read and analyzed for insight into the minds of their authors.
    • CULTURAL INSIGHT
      • The students shall understand the cultural traits that differentiate the three elven peoples, as well as how to interact with each. The principles of high elven purity, wood elven restraint, and dark elven virtue shall be covered in detail.

      • The students will be tutored in basic speech of the elven tongue. This shall include many common phrases and words, but full fluency is not expected to be reached within the allotted instructional time.

      • The students shall learn of human governments, elven governments, human leaders and elven leaders. From which of both races' government styles and leadership roles have succeeded while others have failed, it shall be understood why both races require the governments and the leaders that they have.
    • INTERRACIAL SKILLS AND SELF-CONDUCT
      • The students shall be shown the value of willpower and personal discipline, which are essential components in the life of any mortal, whether Man or Mali.

      • From all instruction that covers matters of Mali'lye (elvenkind) and Valah'lye (humankind), the two students shall bring from my tutelage unique and  precious wisdom. Those who are learned in both human and elven standards could have a significant role to play in the present era of Crimson-Silver.

The greatest effects of my tutelage shall be realized if both students are also educated in their traditional human way by a man of faith, so that they may develop a proper moral code. My teaching shall last between one and several elven months, and I would desire that all applicant pupils be between ten and fifteen years of age.

I request that the Privy Council make copies of this document and send them to houses and families that you deem potentially interested, able or qualified. Each shall have one parent of the applicant write a paragraph explaining the qualifications of their child and any educational background they or their child may have. You may deliver such sealed applications to Lin'ame, where they shall be forwarded to my inspection. After, I shall inform the Privy Council of my two selections and then we may all begin this endeavor.

    Peace and Poise,

    Asthil of the Haumel Bloodline
