  1. I've read a lot of posts in this thread and much of it is genuine, high-caliber feedback. Thank you for that.

I made the mistake not to to point this out but please focus on the state of the server and not individuals, for example "your idea made me ill" is not a valid reply lol

There is no need to defend your opinion, a well thought out reply will do that more than hitting reply on someone else's musings.

Thanks for reading through my obligatory janny insert, I hid a bunch of posts, if yours was hidden it will be discussed anyway, admins can still see them.

Raid tools should only be allowed when defenders get a one hour notice. Very cringe that raiders can insta hop over walls and slaughter civillians because people couldn't rally on a 5 minute notice lol

How do we balance this with red-tape? Giving notice…is that RP-friendly, or dynamic…or even interesting? And, suppose we do remove ladders, then the problem of perma-locked settlements returns—gates down, 24/7. (my problem here is not that players behind gates are safe, it is that it's that community interaction is (literally) gated, and new players be sad for sure).

I liked the beginning of this map a lot, gates were wide open come-on-in—but flat turning off conflict would be worse. What else can we try?

Well I’m fine Telanir but seeing as the most popular things going on fight now are “Is it okay to use Darkie IRPLY” I guarantee you this is going to result in about a 50/50 split in the comments

Yeah, I waited a whole week to make the thread before I realized there won't be a "good time to post" 🤔

  4. Hey,

I want to say, this past week I have seen every administrator work diligently to talk to people in this community, seek the truth, and show real leadership. It took proper humility to not just reflect on events but also to take personal responsibility and affect change. Thank you for putting in this time to address real issues.

When I think about what happened, I think that the question comes back to how we define administration. It should be synonymous with leadership, especially in matters of community safety. It should mean rigor and swiftness in administrative processes and nobody left behind. So we sat down and chatted. We reviewed our dusty admin protocol and rewrote it. And, finally, each of us committed to adopt the new one. If you are interested, you can find it here—and we've kept it publicly accessible, just like before.

I believe these three updates will lead to significant changes at the top-level, and I want to thank everyone who made a statement and inspired us to think about building a better future proactively, and not reactively.

Now, I'm going to put the rosy glasses aside and discuss precisely what we mean in our new policy.

We will work retroactively. AKA, this policy does not begin today—it begins in 2011 at the dawn of LotC. This is not just a bold move, it is reckless—and necessary.

We know that some parts of this policy we may have to roll back, amend, or place limits on. So, we have one request. Do you have something worth reporting? Please do it now. In my 12 year history on this server, I have yet to see a circumstance where holding onto evidence led to a better outcome for victims or for others.

We review anonymous reports sent to [email protected] too. You can reach out to any admin as well to submit a report and, if you prefer, we can keep your identity a secret from the rest of the admin team. Please pick the option where you feel safe and we will accommodate you.

One last point, there is one offence we are not prepared to judge retroactively and that is haphazard slur use or spam in private mediums. I am not pointing to outright discrimination or targeted use—but plain choice of words. Moving forward, this means we are free to be more rigorous and swift in our rulings, including evidence shared from private mediums.

Until you can be proud to be a part of this community, we have work to do.

It's terrible honestly but it's also true that unfortunately back then this super toxic and vile behavior was seen as normal and was seen as the norm in the so-called "Dewper era" (in the flay-controlled Empire of Man / Renatus).

threats, doxxing, phone calls to homes and institutions, and worse.

it's not the same community it was, and that is comforting.

a lot can change in just four years.

  6. How do you feel lotc culture has changed in the five years you've been here? And a more boring question but more to your experience…what should we be doing (or not doing) to make friendships and connecting diverse communities easy and natural?

  7. A lot of people wouldn't put in the love and time into this server that you do, if they were paid $1k for it. It's just not the kind of passion that can come from hamfisted self-indulgence. Correct me if I misunderstood, but you're saying the reason for your motivation is ultimately rooted in meaningful connections you share in the community—especially the kind where you and your friends can nerd over initiatives/concepts and get excited together over doing something worthwhile (else why would you still be here).

What in your mind should we be doing to encourage organic friendship and bonding on this server? Or at least, what can we move out of the way?

By the way…I wanted to add I loved your triad of map related thoughts (map concept, region post, and discussion on map storylines), thanks for leaving nuggets like those around.

Summer, I don't think he's your target here. You and Alex want the same thing. I understand from this that you feel hurt that you haven't been consulted on the Safety policy…but we really are happy to integrate your feedback, and do read your comments. I just want to thank you for sharing your voice and want to let you know that we hear you.

Safety is a challenging space to work with not because there is a lack of motivation—but because it is grey and delicate. Despite that, I don't believe it is impossible—especially given how much progress we've made in the last few years. It gives me hope that we're not that far away from a bulletproof policy. @itdontmattathank you for taking feedback seriously and for making a commitment to improving the policy. The reality is that we take safety exceptionally seriously in this community, perhaps more than any community I've seen on Minecraft. That means we've got a very high bar to meet; this can't be the last revision.

+1 on the thread, thanks for caring frill.

  9. I certainly laughed reading your post, nice style.

Thanks for sharing your experience—and for bludgeoning your way through the barriers that we put to prevent new people from joining…how rude of you to stick through it. You'll have to put up with us now by the way, good luck !!

P.S. it's very encouraging to see you have a pleasant experience with our old fart server, we just turned 11 this year :)

    Amen.

RIP, the team was arbitrarily made by Telanir in the age of consolidation and compartmentalizing and I hope we've learned from it.

Lol, you're not going to believe this. I was the first critic of WT idea when it first came to be…after two years turns out I was right. I only ever wanted four teams, less tape is better.

edit: i'm curious is that a common opinion that I heralded WT? honestly taken aback…
