I thought so, but I could see some logic behind leaving it strung so you don't have the bow going from strung/unstrung all the time. Seems like it could do more damage than good.

High poundage bows, especially, one may want to leave strung for a day of skirmishing, but lower poundage bows can be strung and unstrung in a matter of seconds. It depends on the environment, too. I can imagine the Saracens harassing Crusader marches didn't worry about unstringing their bows in the hot and dry climate.

Yeah, having bow strung all the time is as stupid, as running in armor everywhere (running around safe zones like cities with weapon is also stupid and more - rude - but I think it could be left alone if it shows one's status...).
