  1. He literally just posted in high elf Skype chat. Connor doesn't have access to other elf chats. Calm down with the consiracy theories.

Very true! Supremacy tends to spam our Skype chats with all his threads. :P You should see what it's like during an election!

  2. One is known as Sullas - Lucion, to those who would speak to me informally, and this is my Lord of the Craft. I am a scientist by trade, and a pure high elf by blood. I came to my people with nothing, and rose to our highest offices through my works. It was with pleasure that I served as a leader and cultural bulwark of the Mali'aheral citizenry, and due to poor decisions - my poor decisions - I became a liability.

I was born in Aegis within the human city of Al'Khazar. My upbringing was undeniably harsh, but it is not relevant. I arrived alone in Asulon and learned to survive. I lived in the wilds east of Malinor, until I found Haelun'or--my true home. I rose to the council and advanced my people through the sciences while presiding over the first iteration of glorious collection of knowledge, the Eternal Library. Dangers came, horrors destroyed world after world, and my influence waned amongst my people. Younger officials turned to popular, more expedient policies to meet our aims. Time after time I was too slow to act, and what decisions I did make ended in disaster. My final, awful act was to dissuade our people from violently ejecting our client-elves from our lands, and in turn, our clients rose up and sent us all into exile.

I ran from their onslaught, as there could be no victory even if we repelled them. I hide alone from their sight and the sight of my people. I have proven to be useless and will be forgotten, but I am content with this. In my exile and solitude, I study, and I build. I am a patient elf with boundless capacity for knowledge and a seething, burning hatred for those that I brought under us. Whether it be tomorrow, or in a century, I will have vengeance. For it is a patient elf that strangles his enemy's children.

  3. Watching the speeches and individuals spruiking their abilities and desires, Lucion scratches his chin with a clenched jaw.

"Lliran, this is not the time for speeches. The time has come for a meeting of the council. And it will take place imminently. I invite Iatrilemar to attend. Until then, cease with your pontifications."

((It will take place 4.5 hours from this post, or after that! Whatever time after 4.5 hours is convenient.))

  4. Whoever is responsible for the emergence of high elves in asulon is responsible for destroying the elf race.

They were always kind of the shitty race in aegis, but at least they were sort of noble for example coming to the orcs aid when undead attacked and forging an alliance, they had a cool tree city and a decent military commanded by people like commander blackthorn of the pathfinders, and they had princes and princesses who were actually kind of respected. High elves are, simply put, arseholes and I do not respect them in the slightest

Arseholes for a reason! Don't forget that!

  5. Everything in the spoiler has to do with the high elves. I don't believe this discussion is appropriate for this thread, but I just wanted to say a lot of things.

Okay, I'm not going to do the whole paragraph-by-paragraph rebuttal because I find those terribly obnoxious. Before we begin, I need to express how long ago Aegis was--more than two years ago, now. I feel anything that happened then is long, long since become irrelevant. But that's just my opinion, please don't pick on that one! :(

Okay. I argue that the High Elves transition from the Aegisian 'culture' (of which I know little) to current Athera Haelun'or culture was, more-or-less, natural.

Something that people forget is that the high elves were the first ever 'bigoted' group to appear on the server. IC, the culture was re-discovered in Asulon, inside the ruins of a grand library. The philosophy of maehr'sae hiylun'ehya was liked, and a number of high elves chose to live in the fashion that these ancient and extinct high elves did. They took the arrogant mindset that they were better than the other races, and always took their time to talk about it. They would lecture visitors who came to their city how fabulous they were and how clever they were, and how great it was to be a high elf. They barred orcs from the city, though, due to significant cultural differences and violence. All very arrogant and so-forth. Marvellous fun.

Now, OOC, the lore was crafted near the end of Aegis (If I get any details wrong, I'm sorry. I've only learned this second-hand for the most part). Work on High Elf culture was started by VonEbs and later on Sporadic, Relinquo_Angelus, Esterlen, and Ranovak joined in. The latter-four wanted something different than the usual Elven shtick, so they took on elements of elves from other sources. So followed a scrambling of bits and bobs and squashing things together. Not every high elf liked the end result, but quite a few did. The guys who wrote it stressed in various threads to all high elves that they were not obliged to act the way Haelun'or did. We were not out to change everything OOC, just that those who wanted to join in, could. So it was thrown at Native, he liked it, and 'lo and behold the library was set up in Asulon. Early days of high-elf land was mainly made up of trying to choose an architecture style they liked. They went from wooden houses to horrendously ugly 6-story towers, and walls were non-existent. They declared their independence from Malinor at this time. Outsiders came into the city freely, and took part in high-elven shenanigans--whether it be snooting around, robbing their houses, drinking with them, attacking them, or just hanging out in general. Though, many individuals took snootiness poorly back in those days and had a tendency to attack. Walls were erected to keep out the less reputable individuals. But then some raids occurred. I forget from whom (probably orcs protesting the racism) but that prompted the high elves to keep their gates shut. Which still goes on today.

Then came the orc warclaim, which is when stuff started to get more familiar. Now, the high elves had disagreements with the Mori and their subservient dark elves for a fair while. And there had been a number of skirmishes in and around the city and forests. Considerable trust was lost with them. These Mori and dark elves helped the orcs attack the city, and, to very little surprise from anyone (save perhaps the high elves themselves) it was sacked. The Malinorian High Prince (Haelphon I think it was), who was suspected to have allowed the orcs through his lands to attack, came to Haelun'or a day after the battle and informed a weeping and injured Ellir'siol (The de-facto demagogue) that her people had brought the attack upon themselves. This left a rather poor taste in certain witnesses mouths. For instance, a young and impressionable Lucion Sullas, who had quite a bit of influence over the city for quite a bit of time. Later came the influx of human raids off the the tail of a young and fresh Holy Oren Empire, and the infamous dark elf Rei. So, lets take note of folks they didn't trust/loathed at this point.

Malinor--Who (allegedly) allowed orcs through their lands to attack them,

Dark elves/Mori--For the attacks and aiding their enemies,

Humans--For their ever-expanding empire and raiders,

    Orcs--because they were orcs.

Its been mentioned that several aspects of the High Elven world, such as the purging and killing of folks that do not agree with them was just an OOC choice. Really, the purging part of this was a very recent addition. There were always nasty High Elves from the beginning. Asulon High Elves like Nelecar championed brainwashing and execution of impure high elves. But this fellow was crazy IC, and very few people gave in to all his ideals. Furthermore, there were characters on the original silver council (Dio Astore, Ellir'siol, Artaeum, and Lucion Sullas) that could keep him in check. But then came other, unchallenged monsters, like Kalenz Uradir (who we will get to in more detail later). IC (and I'm not sure if I should tell you this meta-ish stuff) his mind was corrupted by the Lich Cataris, and ol' Kalenz has slowly been going more and more loco since then. When Dio, Ellir, and Nelecar all went innactive/exiled-suicided, the city was left to the influence of Lucion Sullas (AKA, my character). He was a stern and ardent neutral-pacifist when it came to foreign politics, and never condoned killing of any kind. Even if it was an orc-elf hybrid or something similarly horrible by high-elven standards was more likely to leave quite thoroughly alive. Near the end of Asulon, we joined up with Malinor again out of IC necessity, and spent Elysium and Kalos(?) hanging with them--which was good and bad. I'm not going to go into the OOC, as there was quite a bit of anti-us in those days, but the High Elves themselves actually managed to get one of their Princes into the High Prince station after a semi-coup of Bravepaw by the council. Lucion didn't like that, so he left the Malinor Council. The High elves themselves also found themselves in the midst of a number of impures, religious figures, and other foul things they took unkindly to. They were displeased at the state of things. Come Anthos, they made their way to the new Haelun'or, and were all quite happy to have some space. After the ensuing conflicts Malinor got itself in, the high elves seceded. IC, Lucion didn't wish to make demands for land in the independence declaration, because he felt it was more polite to discuss it in person. Only one meeting upon the subject occurred between himself and Princess Titania, and it was not revisited until a plucky high elf in the service of the Princedom demanded an audience. They denied the request despite the high elves arguing they needed the land directly outside their walls for farming.  Around this time, Oren annexed Malinor's land, and it became a vassal under the Kingdom of Kaedrin, and they gave the high elves the land they needed. OOC I had to go inactive for a while, so Lucion handed leadership over to the young up-and-coming political beast Kalenz Uradir--A mischievous fellow with ties to the Polgrath-lead Arcane Delvers, and the infamous White Rose. Anthos shenanigans included; fighting against druids over cutting down elder trees that were allowing raiders into the city, arguing and getting into trouble with dwarves over one anvil or another, hunting 'The Fallen,' a group lead by an infamous impure, attempting (and failing) to fend off raiders of many nationalities... guh... I am so sick of writing at this point. I'll just sum it up with another list. They now disliked/distrusted

Dwarves-- Because anvil business (I know there was significant OOC conflict, but I won't go into that due to the freshness of the bile)

Malinor-- Due to poor relations and bad memories.

Conclave-- because it basically was Malinor in the eyes of the High Elves,

Snow Elves--Because they attacked a party being attended by High Elves,

    Orcs--Because they're orcs.

    Now add that to Asulon's.

Malinor--Who (allegedly) allowed orcs through their lands to attack them,

Dark elves/Mori--For the attacks and aiding their enemies,

Humans--For their ever-expanding empire and raiders,

    Orcs--because they were orcs.

    Now, those they did like:

Kha-- Due to close relations that I forgot to write in, and cannot be buggered (Sorry, Tiazar. :( ))

White Rose/assorted humans-- Official alliances and friendly relations.

Then came the Fringe, and I think that's recent enough for me not to worry about.

The current High Elven attitude towards the other races is due to IC interactions, and not due to OOC. Now that I have pretty much written out our entire history, I am going to have a cup of tea. However, one last thing to consider.

The high elves took in the dark elves and the wood elves (as well as the snow elves for a time. Sorry about that, Narthok. ;-; ) and tried to build something with them. Now there have been significant tensions, and certainly quite a number of angry feelings, but one of many results is this: High elves are softening slowly on other races. Dark Elves, Wood Elves and Humans are regarded quite nicely by the citizens, and there has even been an Orc or two wandering around that haven't been killed on sight. The main square of the city is almost always open to anyone who doesn't cause trouble. Is there another natural change upon the horizon? Perhaps! Who knows? I'm going to drink tea now.

Tl;dr: Things happened that are covered in the previous paragraphs.

One’s Area of Expertise: Geology, Archeology, Paleontology, Physics and the book and quills scholarly arts.

One’s future projects (No time-wasters, please): I am currently studying the land around us, its various ruins and places that holds secrets and potential answers and i have found many astounding results. There is also my study of elcihis various ores and where to locate it preferably with ease. In this regard i have most recently uncovered a rather large continous flow of quartz underneath elcihi.

Will you uphold the regulations of this consortium, knowing fully that disobeying them will lead to you immediate rejection and, should your actions be particularly distasteful, punishment through the law of the Mali’aheral? Yes as it would only be logical to conclude that joining this group would need such acceptance.

    To Mr Haterin

To my ignorance, I have never been informed of this 'palaeontology' field that you posit. Despite this, I am still intrigued by your wide range of skills. I will be most glad to accept you into this Consortium.

    Regards etc etc,

    One’s Name: Dasyra Linath.

    One’s Area of Expertise: Psychology.

One’s future projects (No time-wasters, please): My first project will continue my research into the physical mind itself, discovering how it operates and which part does which. Currently little is known, and my research was cut short by the downfall of Lin'everal however I'd wish to continue. The second involves the more theoretical and internal thought process, how we learn and how traumatic/significant events can lead to a changed personality.

Will you uphold the regulations of this consortium, knowing fully that disobeying them will lead to you immediate rejection and, should your actions be particularly distasteful, punishment through the law of the Mali’aheral?: Probably.

    "To Ms Linath.

No. Absolutely not. I will never allow a friend to both necromaners and shades into this organisation. Your answer of 'probably' to the final question furthermore fills me with a curious sense of dread. And lastly, of course, I would never allow an individual into this consortium, based on the practice of a pseudo-science. I recall the last Mali'aheral to explore your 'field' was a Mr Kolyat Alfakyn, and it still holds an unpleasant taste in my mouth. I am sure your services are beloved in that hall of mediocrity and impurity they call the 'Mage's Guild,' but not here.

    No regards in any form,

    Maheral L. Sullas"

As you walk through the central square of Annil'sul, a figure stands pontificating upon the fountain ledge. He paces around upon it with his arms firmly clasped behind his back. As you pass, you only seem to catch a snippet of his speech.

"... mostly unjustifiable, due to the continued demands upon outside entities with consent from neither the council, or even the general citizenry. These demands are always erratic, confusing, and often devoid of basic logical concepts. As a citizen and your Maheral, I find such actions to be counter to the maehr'sae hylun'ehya.

With the land in a sudden era of peace and silence, these disruptions are not appreciated by myself, nor any of the citizens. As such, I am declaring myself a contender for the leadership of our city. It is time our people concentrated on research, art, and construction, rather than the continued milling-about in the city square. Reason must always trump violence and slothfulness in all circumstances.

Furthermore, were we to go deeper into the issues presented, I would..."

Being a most busy elf, you simply wander past on your way. Though, it seems an election may be on the horizon.

Ornate letters are delivered to the accepted members of the Haelun'or Scientific Consortium by a rather irate-looking messenger. This messenger appears disinterested in speaking to any of the recipients, and quickly marches on her way with multiple terse grumbles. After delivering the final letter, she trudges herself back to the inn, and, as always, drinks a cup of tea that must have been rather hot before being abruptly left alone. She leans back in her chair, and looks towards the ceiling--contemplating the reasoning behind her blind obedience to Lucion's petty whims. Why was it she felt compelled to deliver his mail on such a regular basis? Was it out of respect? No, of course not. It must be something deeper. Could it be... love?

Of course, you wouldn't know any of this beyond receiving the letter, as you had no reason to follow her. The message reads as thus--

    To my venerable associates.

The time has come for us to convene in a meeting to discuss our discoveries, our successes, and our failures. Those who have seen themselves named into our consortium are obliged to speak, and learn, before their colleagues.

Any and all research of a non/light magical nature is welcome for discussion and understanding, provided it does not contradict the rules of the Consortium.

I await you answers, and your continued interest in the field of true-science.

Diligence in the face of ignorance, lliran.

    Regards etc etc,

    Maheral L. Sullas.

  9. As you walk towards the entrance of Annil'sul, you notice a small box upon a simple wooden table. Beside the box is a number of leaflets, all with a singular, massive exclamation marks upon them. Looking upon the opposite side of the paper, there are a few short sentences written.

    !

Please direct your attention to the left.

Naturally you turn to your left, and see a tree that stands out quite distinctly from the others.

    3kNaTQK.png

Having taken note of the tree, you read the next sentence.

In no less than twenty words, please explain why/why not this tree is aesthetically pleasing in your subjective view.

You take note of the ample space beneath the final sentence, along with the pencils beside the leaflets. Someone has obviously gone to some effort in order to gather opinions upon this tree.

  10. Gathering yet another bundle of papers, and a large tea-kettle from the tea-house's pantry, he begins to write back responses to his applicants in his usual manner. However this time with herbal tea, rather than his usual Earl Grey.

    Dear Mr Kaelthes.

I admire your delving into the marvels of anatomy. I myself was quite the surgeon in my early days of citizenship. Some of my more fascinating discoveries within the 'living machine' lead me to my sub-lightning experiments that still continue to this day. I wish you luck in your pursuits, and welcome you to this consortium.

    Regards etc etc,

    L. Sullas

    One’s Name: Kalameet Izalith

One’s Area of Expertise: Arcane Magics, engineering. I'm specifically adapt with transmutation and metal working.

One’s future projects (No time-wasters, please): More study into Arcane Engineering. A notable project is to develop and build a more effective and efficient Mana Obelisk. This Mana Obelisk being the source of power to fuel enchantments within our city. My notes on the subject can be shared for more depth if required.

Will you uphold the regulations of this consortium, knowing fully that disobeying them will lead to you immediate rejection and, should your actions be particularly distasteful, punishment through the law of the Mali’aheral? My projects offer little to no harm to anyone, so it shouldn't be an issue. These tests and developments are to offer our city a technological advancement.

    "Dear Mr Kalameet

My thanks for your interest in this organisation. However, it seems you have overlooked one of the more important statutes of this consortium--primarily that this society is one based upon the study of the sciences, and not that of the outer realms. While some level of magical involvement is acceptable for the sake of furthering study, projects entirely involving the magical arts have no place within this society. I am sure there are numerous other prestigious institutions that will appreciate your extensive knowledge. My apologies.

    Regards etc etc,

    L. Sullas"

  11. A surly high elven messenger walked through Norithel, grumbling all the way. The Maheral often forced her to march through all kinds of overgrown landscape without so much as a days notice. It was always "Good llir, I have need of you!" or "Do be a dear and take this to someone for me." or even "I'd very much appreciate if you'd inform Kalenz that he is a simpering ninny." And, once more, she was told to march out to the middle of nowhere and hand a letter to "Dwyn of Norithel." Impossible, obviously, that he would get out from behind his desk and walk there himself. No! Send this one instead! She wasn't doing anything important!

She grumbles once more, before spotting the elf described as "Dwyn" by a local. Walking up to him, she places the letter in his hand without another word, before grumpily trudging off. Her tea was likely cold by now.

If Dwyn were to open the letter, it would read as thus--

    "To Mr Dwyn/Signus or what-have-you.

As Maheral, I take an interest in many subjects, mainly that of the natural philosophy of science. The  true-world intrigues me far more than the workings of magic or the doldrums of political flim-flam. It is both my passion, and my vocation. So thus I come to you with a request.

I desire to construct a large crane-like device within your quaint little village. Likely in the location I have illustrated (rather well, might I add)--

    RRvUqYW.png

Upon it will be suspended my newest attempt at a submersible vessel. I will not require too much room, but your settlement is the only one with enough deep water for my experiment to be performed without continuous difficulty.

I would ask your permission for such a project to begin, however that would give you the illusion of choice in the matter. I will be bringing around supplies for its construction in the next few elven weeks. Worry not about the actual assembly. My Consortium and I will handle such matters.

    Regards etc etc,

    L. Sullas, Maheral."

  12. Maheral Lucion Sullas sits at the back of the procession, and looks around himself quizzically at the shocked and confused faces on the gathered citizens. He leans back on his chair, and comments beneath his breath.

"They asked Kalenz Uradir, the least subtle Mali'aheral in all of the land, to lead a wedding. And yet they are shocked by the outcome?"

  13. The accepted members of the Haelun'or Scientific Consortium receive a letter quite unexpectedly outside of their tents. Not that finding tent-mail was a particularly odd venture, an individual having found paper and ink in such little time obviously was. Were they to open the letter, it would read as thus--

    To my venerated associates.

During the recent arrival to these new lands, I have deemed it an excellent opportunity to send out queries of interest to my new colleagues on the creation of a vessel to study the effects of submersible objects. My previous attempt (the diving 'bell') was successful in that it was capable of diving to the depths of the lake in Lin'evaral. That said, I nearly suffocated in the attempt, and through thorough study during our time within the Tomb research facility, I had managed to divulge a theory behind this issue.

Air, that which we breathe, is a finite and tangible substance, that can be compressed and 'stored' much like contemporary physical objects. Though perhaps this may seem obvious to you, lliran, from merely standing in the breeze. Myself, I have never dedicated much thought to such mundane things before. However, as I have spoken myself "Often it is that the things of which we think little become far more fascinating then that which we study for decades." Obviously, any future craft would require a method by which to transplant additional air into the vessel. Original designs based on fire-stokers proved to be far too inefficient for use, and thus a far more useful and reliable machine has since been created.

The "air-pump" focuses on pushing the air within a smoothly-bored cylindrical container. Without any gaps, the air cannot escape, and is moved in the direction desired. Though, the method by which to transplant the air into the vessel itself while submerged is still not entirely clear. However, I wish to garner your aid in the construction of this new vessel in the near future. Though I know many of our resources must go towards the construction of the city, I beg that spare some wood, stone, and perhaps some metals towards my latest mechanism. But only if it can truly be spared.
    Many regards, etc etc,

    L. Sullas of the Consortium

    One’s Name: Almecki

    One’s Area of Expertise: Meteorology

One’s future projects (No time-wasters, please): To determine if the mass of air around us creates a pressure, and if so, determine a way to measure that pressure.  This is one step in the ultimate goal of being able to accurately and efficiently predict weather patterns and understand the atmosphere.  Properties discovered during this project should hopefully create a better understanding of the properties of air in general, which will assist other scientists in their endeavors.

Will you uphold the regulations of this consortium, knowing fully that disobeying them will lead to you immediate rejection and, should your actions be particularly distasteful, punishment through the law of the Mali’aheral? Of course.

    Dear Mr Almeki.

I understand that you are, in fact, quite knowledgeable in the marvels of air pressures. This is something I too take great interest in (as you will soon discover, I am sure). More scholarly entrepreneurs like ourselves are often welcome within our ranks.

    Regards etc etc,

    L. Sullas

  15. Once again, Lucion takes hold of another bundle of applications, and places them carefully on his desk. After perusing each one over a cup of herbal tea, he scribes a letter to each individual, and sends it off with an increasingly irate messenger.

    One's Name: Amras'Tullum

One’s Area of Expertise: Geology and geochemistry; how natural substances/phenomena exist and how they interact with each other.

One’s future projects (No time-wasters, please): Research into the synthesis and crystallization of different ore substances and how reactions can be used to manipulate the natural world. A hypothetical study would be investigating the product created from the synthesis of Arcaurum and Carbarum. A tedious and ambitious secondary project involves the development of a complete ore dictionary which classifies all naturally occurring substances as well as their unnatural compounds.

Will you uphold the regulations of this consortium, knowing fully that disobeying them will lead to you immediate rejection and, should your actions be particularly distasteful, punishment through the law of the Mali’aheral? I would be a fallacious fool to do otherwise.

    Dear Mr Tullum.

It is good to see such an old colleague take interest in my little consortium. Your expertise is already known, but it is a shame we do not have meteorites to gaze over this time. Perhaps we shall find some minerals worth pouring over in the future. It would be my pleasure to accept you into this organisation.

    Regards etc etc,

Will you uphold the regulations of this consortium, knowing fully that disobeying them will lead to you immediate rejection and, should your actions be particularly distasteful, punishment through the law of the Mali’aheral? Very much so.

    Dear Mr Sythaerin.

Though I have not always appreciated many of your past 'quirks,' denying a wealth of knowledge such as yours would be a foolish action on my part. You are welcome within this consortium.

I was surprised to see a name that I do not recognise within these applications. It is good to see some fresh minds take interest in the scholarly arts, being so rare nowadays after all. I am unsure what precisely is so dynamic about 'aero,' but I will be interested in uncovering its meaning and concepts. Please, allow myself to welcome you to this consortium.

    Regards etc etc,

    L. Sullas
