  1. I enjoy the lore, though the Naztherak have always confused me as to where they actually come from. So to that end and for the sake of argument I decided to go back through the creation lore to double check what actually is Iblee’s realm. As I wasn’t sure if it was entirely different plane of existence or what. I now have come to an understanding myself of how this works (or how it might work) But it would probably be better addressed outright.

This is the running lore description of Iblee’s personal domain drawn from Benboboy and the Creation lore posted by Flamboyant:

    b26fa1c9621cb2b1b94a58e3fac50157.png

    34ecee0124c43c3dc793baaa6bf09968.png

Thus the running and current canon for Iblee’s realm is of course: (for clarity purposes, not informative ones I’m aware y’all know the lore) That Iblees did not have his own realm to begin, and that when he ascended upon the Mortal Plane he created his own realm deep within the physical world known explicitly as the Nether. What needs to be made clear then is how this current definition fits into this new piece that has been created.

The language is primarily the thing that makes this notion a problem, that problem being that: The lore directly opposes the prior approved establishment on the subject. The thing that displays this the most clearly being this passage right here:

    5d6594e6aab8d2381e23a397c6ec152b.png

At the same time however, the references made in describing the world go in the opposite direction, which creates confusion as to the actual goal of the piece. We have two ideas here that actively in opposition to each other:

    9d6684983434f5c448419f15e54c033f.png

This notion that Moz Strimoza is not the Nether itself; but a patchwork of realms taken by Iblees and attached to the Nether. Yet in opposition it is also expressed that all these realms are just attached to this Moz Strimoza which is the core itself:

    c5136c7ba10655f46cd0bfc04455fdcc.png

    db6e6bf3eaf8f1c2c71ab8b0464196b1.png

The result is something all too unclear when really digging into what these places are and the significance of them as places within the world. It’s confusing terminology and I think in order for the piece to truly be complete it has to be specified (maybe at the beginning). That A: the entire realm is like Outworld (Mortal Kombat) where every plane conquered is amalgamated as one big conglomerate known by many names (High Hells, Moz Strimoza, the Nether, etcetera.😞

    Quote

Outworld is a large and often hostile realm of varying landscapes, owing to its nature as a composite realm encompassing an unknown amount of conquered and merged realms.

    c99587be36fc7b2df56c3dcfd600c9c7.jpg

OR this, specify that Iblee’s realm at the center of this Moz Strimoza periphery is the Nether itself, which is linked to these conquered realms and sewn together by this blood magic referenced in travel there. (Like the Twisting Nether from WOW, or from DOOM Eternal:

    Quote

    Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal

In the Doom Reboot series, Hell is described as a realm of pure chaos, unbounded by space, time and dimension that thrives on pain and suffering inflicted on other worlds.

    TwistingNether_WoD.jpg

Because the previous pieces of Canon direct Iblee’s realm as being physically buried in the center of the world I would say it would HAVE to be something similar to Outworld where everything is merged to become a physically connected and composited world. Not just linked in space and time but physically part of the Nether itself. Ultimately this remains a problem with LOTC lore in generally basically things need to be reconciled in good spirit with other sects of coinciding lore or they need to completely separate all together.

Food for thought, continuity has always been a very important part of creative world building for me, particularly on a server where most of the lore is concocted by players.

you guys are active and should get land that’s what I was tryna say

activity naturally fluctuates and it’s mad unfair to take a random snapshot in time (whether it’s 5 months or 1 week, sorry I can’t read) to say “these 5 groups are active & deserve prebuilds, every other group doesn’t make the cut”

the activity plugin is not capable of predicting who will be active in an entirely new location in a new map. remember fenn and gladewynn lol? or llyria being #1 settlement on the map? it’s basically a rule that nations die randomly during transition, so it’d be much better to make the land grab an actual event that encourages people to take an active role in settling the new map

    amen brother

  3. 1 hour ago, howard said:

yeah that’s the concern I was trying to raise, anyone who actually goes to Kaedrin would notice immediately that a concerted effort is being made to raise activity. depending on which week you sample from, they beat some of the lower-end nations on the list. if you beat the lowest activity number you should get added while the nation you’ve eclipsed should get kicked off.

(or y’know, we could stop competing for readings of this nonsense activity plugin, and resolve the matter of who gets land next map in roleplay)

I mean considering we’ve been at this for over five months I can assure you that isn’t the case. We’ve been steadily increasing due the environment being provided. Squash beef, provide good rp, chill in the vibes. Kaedrin’s going to be fine regardless but it would be nice to have the progress we’ve made acknowledged formally y know?

  4. Personal experience on a critical issue isn’t something I recall incorrectly. I was there going over the document in cooperation with him at the time and in voice with one of you, the amount of arbitrary and easily manipulated facets couldn’t even be finished in that one session. Had to be finished in the following session there was so much to change. People care about their work, they don’t like when it’s besmirched I understand that. However, trying to speak as if someone else’s experience of the situation is somehow delusional and that the big bad admins swept it all under the rug, that even speak well on the point trying to be made. It actually makes it look worse. If you can’t see whats wrong with those initial points I mentioned at all: the already arbitrary and run on nature of the rewrite itself, then really those dishes were already shattered and all Telanir did realistically was take it into the backyard to put it down. Discussions on policy are hardly so agreeable, nor is this dismissal, which is far less easy to utilize when it originates from having been in voice, making real changes, I probably even still have the doc in my google drive. Point is, this is a critique not an attack. It’s an important distinction for healthy debate.

No the origin of the critique is far less important to me personally than the solution which should be put into effect. It’s an insane policy to me for instance, that conflict rules be informed by an amalgamation of all the failed policies that came before, empirically it’s actually regressive. Ultimately what would be productive under the current rule-set would be a true expansion according to the current nature of the policy. Namely a set number of clauses that moderators must insist that each party agree on. That way the moderators can have their scrap of policy and players can abide by a set of  rules that they mutually agree on. Essentially provide points on the contract that all parties must be forced to agree on.

If wars and raids are to be more principally driven then the semantics can’t be left to breakdown a debate. The moderating presence must take charge and provide a logical settlement. The tools necessary for that to happen should be expanded. The most effective and critical part about the new system is that players need to negotiate with players first, and then moderators, it’s gone a very long way in weeding out problem players, (I.E. it’s very hard for players to carry hardcore OOC grudges if the rules themselves indirectly demand that said apprehensions need to be set aside for conflict to occur). In all cases the server will keep chugging along regardless, but it can run certainly run better or worse.

Knox was actually one of the GMs that sat in the call that lasted several hours and played a key role in the revisions that Syko and myself made to the document. From what I recall, the sentiment among us three and the current admin at the time was that we were pretty satisfied with the state of it. While it needed tuning and some good love and care, we felt it satisfied many of our immediate needs.

    Perhaps you recall it incorrectly.

From my own point of view, it was the hand of Telanir that brought in sweeping changes. I had presented it in a call with other administrators and was told that it needed arbitrary trimming down to 10 pages with no consideration for reason or context. And that we needed to put in what was called at the time a "Good Faith Clause." Syko and I sat down and hashed it out in about an hour and we returned to the table where we got overall a positive response and we left happy.

Next day Telanir swept the table with a broom handle and shattered all the dishes.

    Lol

Truthfully it’s a bit silly to think that the reason idea after idea is shot down is because they’re all inherently bad ideas. When I first started the project I made a Your View to get the communities feedback on what works and what doesn’t. Some of our attempts have been based off of the prior rules that were in place that many are calling to be brought back t, just tidied up and expanded upon in a few places to fix loopholes that were previously abused. We’re not so naive as to think that what has been proposed has been 100% perfect, but surely better than what we have now and seemingly what the community has advised that they want.

I can shoulder a bit of that blame to be honest. The reason I wasn’t initially vocal about the status of the project was because some part of me didn’t expect so much push-back, despite almost the exact same happening the first time when Kaelan and I attempted to rework Joels War rules. We had gone through everything, rewriting and revising as needed, brought it to the team at the time and let them pick it apart and fix it up and what not, and then Telanir tossed it aside and gave us what we currently have. So I don’t know what I was thinking expecting much different results. Definition of insanity I suppose.

With the War Patch to fix up some aspects of Telanirs rules hopefully being pushed through now Braxis has been working diligently on taking the ‘best’ parts of many different systems and make something that will actually function for 8.0. Right now the team has not done a whole lot given how the War Patch was a bigger issue, but with an end in sight real work can now begin on an 8.0 system. Whether it is more consistent monthly updates, independent war-related updates or more Your Views, the team and I will be doing what we can to keep people in the loop this time around, especially if things spiral out yet again and the rug is pulled from underneath us.

No offence but as someone who was on the team at the time I can tell you the reason why it was thrown out and it wasn’t just because of some hand of god/(telanir). The entire rewrite from what I recall was too specific in all the wrong areas and multiple people pointed that out. Knox particularly hit on the fact that a lot of it was simply illegible and horribly worded. Which is why nobody complained that much from my knowledge when it was tossed into the bin. The main issue that there is with Telanir’s new status quo is that it requires the moderator actually knows how to think for themselves and make a call on the situation, instead of running to a handbook to railroad the entire process.

Adaptable GMs are a boon in my opinion, but in every discussion about the rules after the complaint was always: ‘I can’t make a call without some thirty page document that tells me exactly what to do.’

The problem with meticulously drawn out rulesets is that they’re made to be broken and when players inevitably find loopholes the team will thus be unable to cope with or account for said loopholes, and thus make bad calls in the moment. It is far more reasonable to train people to be adaptable, and to unequivocally support them in their calls after the fact. The basis of our current ruleset is fine, it doesn’t need to be broken down by adding a bunch of failed experiments into the mix, nor do many aspects of the current ruleset need /fixing up/.

The ultimate premise is good faith. If players cannot keep good faith with one another and offer respectful conflict than these stated players are in violation of the rules and should be offered infractions. There are semantics that should be debated like cooldown times, raid numbers, no conquest, etcetera. But these things don’t require an overhaul. I am of the opinion that the only real solution to the incompetent handling of conflict under the current ruleset is to make moderators a truely competent third party in the discussions between conflicting parties. Make people come to the table, enable the discussion, or leave them be because in this last scenario all that occurs is a waste of oxygen.

That's my two cents on the issue. Bastardizing the systems of the past only bastardizes the systems we create in the future.

THREE YEARS upon the ocean blue did the Gereon de Gamesh spend, sent from a land far far away with one destination in mind, and a million ways to arrive. Yet despite all the turmoil that brewed upon that ocean blue, did the successes of their voyage accrue. With a skeleton crew from port to port that rickety Carreck drew; mile by mile they over open waves they sailed onward, with a mission in mind and codex to abide until  reaching a last shore’s harbor might safely provide all those aboard with the respite they desired.

When at last when the ship had arrived the crew which had sailed through the dead of night did with the last of their strength moor the boat tight, thus bound near to a rocky shoal. Bound by blood to the captain mad they had suffered no mutiny upon the sea and just as soundly staged their expedition in-land. It was there where the Captain’s mission lay, of a new world whispered of by seamen quickly departed, yet then just as suddenly returned, spat back out upon Aeldinic shore with tales wrapped pretty by siren’s song.

The lands were harsh, and the crew were met fraught with many obstacles by which they were abound. The dense spruce wood was aghast with beasts of all manner that might have each spelled for them a simple doom. Yet with them they had the Captain Aist, and as they fought to keep his path open so did he feed upon their vigor and lead them forward. Without him they were lost, with no course home; trapped and meek.

Yet no more than three months hence did they split and spread. Out across the land like a plague on the wind to find those worthy of them. Letters wrote to those they hunt, penned in blood strewn about. A call to those ambitious few, to live a new life truly undue. Signed beneath was the seal of the Captain a serpent bound to it’s own tail in the circular fashion:

It is thus proclaimed:

    SECTION I. DIVISION OF POWER,

I.) That the Minister for Governmental-Affairs known shorthand as the office of the Premier, be dissolved and rendered defunct.

II.) That the Minister for Internal-Affairs be associated in perpetuity with the undesignated office of Lieutenant-Governor.

a.) That the Lieutenant Governor be henceforth the shorthand designation of the Internal Ministry.

    SECTION II. CABINET,

    I.) GOVERNOR-GENERAL,

The Governor-General is the Head of Government in accordance with section two of the Commonwealth Constitution. It is thereby the function of the Governor to chair the executive government and offer royal assent on behalf of his Majesty the King, as a proxy in his absence.

It is thus also the duty of the Lieutenant-Governor to chair Cabinet in the absence of both entities, and is entrusted with the right to issue executive edicts by royal prerogative.

INCUMBENT: HIS EXCELLENCY, LORD RICHARD HELVETS

    COUNCIL OF STATE

    a.) MINISTER OF LABOUR,

The Minister of Labour is charged with the development of the King’s territories, which entails the construction of public and private housing, the establishment of new businesses, and the assurance of employees to staff them. c.) MINISTER OF DEFENCE,

The Minister of Defence stands as the Government’s representative in all militant-affairs, and manages relations with the Imperial Secretariats designated to the defence of the Empire at large. Namely, the Secretaries of War and Justice. It is also therefore the duty of the Ministry to oversee the state of the Imperial Garrison and the Provincial Constabulary and update Cabinet should the need arise.

    INCUMBENT: HIS EXCELLENCY, OISIN O’ROURKE

    d.) MINISTER OF CULTURE,

The Count of Rochefort mourned greatly for his older sister upon her funeral, accompanied by a priest, surrounded by her family, no less than she deserved. TO be honoured at home in the hall of her family. He stood there in the rain, yet even the downpour could not smolder the furnace beneath her great pyre. It was their tradition, a sure way of attaining heaven, the smoke of her being guided up to the skies floating ever onward upon the breeze; incandescent and sacred. Her casket crafted methodically to hold the remains they had recovered, the smell of the imported Cordoban cedar lingering ever upon the Varoche chapel as it burned amongst the Roses spread across the top of it’s grim splendor. It was the same chapel where is father was married to their beloved mother, the church his own father was cremated in thereafter.

As he stood there, beside his family, his brother next to him and his daughters in his arms. He remembered all in the wake of it, the childhood he had been given, what little there was. His constant bickering with Margaret, their eternal twinly rivalry, the duty he bore to his brothers, and the kindness of his beloved sister whom he would never forget. He recalled the good days when he was but a small child, the candies she would steal for him from the kitchens, the memory of she who took care of him even when their mother was taken. He was the youngest of all of them, an outsider, yet she to him, he thought of as more than his sister. She was his world. It was then that he relived his youth all over again, ever on the outside as his brothers and she played and grew, he remembered every bedtime story, all the times at market. Most of all though her fortitude and will the character that she imparted upon him.

Then the pain, the pain of loss which had always remained of him. The scars that remained in her absence thereafter, when their father had sent her away, and her disappearance thereafter. He had lost her all over again. At that he balled his hands, gripping hard as he looked to his brother Henry, whom nodded in response, ever supportive in hard times. From the point of her disappearance, even unto the joy of her short return, when he came of age at Novellen; he knew then what would leave him content. He would not rest until all his kin could do so with him, that he do all in his power to assure the protection of his family so that they might live full and happy lives: No daughter of Helvets would die so young as she, nor be sold to their detriment.

Richard Helvets prays most piously in the Chapel at Varoche, the dear Bishop of Ves in his company as the remains are consecrated before the coming traditions. As he does this he imagines the sheer horror which might have befallen his sister’s remains if they had remained casket-less in a shallow ill-prepared grave, buried without the proper rite, nor any true kin informed soon enough of her demise to attend the ceremony.

He then recalls the remorseful expedition he embarked on so long ago to rescue his dearest sister, disgusted himself by the treatment of her remains by a dumbstruck and brainless people. Upon the high ground of St. Catherine did she belong, far away from the dangers of the lowlands, and from the plainly obvious risk that the sea-faring barbarians raiding and raping the coast of Haense had. There his sister would remain safe under the mountain, as she always should have been.

Indeed all he had wanted was to see his sister one last time. The only figure he had in his youth, the second mother who had been sent as fodder for the wolves and bears to devour in their stupor. The downpour was the worst, the mud and excrement of recent battle as he dragged his ward de Falstaff through the leagues of foreign territory to find his forgotten kin. In the end they found her, buried too among-st the shite, a section of the forest behind still up in flames despite the rain.

The oath he swore would be maintained, no longer would his family endure the constant dangers of the world at wide. They would all be at home, at peace in the land of their Father. Protected, able to live long lives, raise children and watch the crops from their window; see the rose of their country flourish and prosper.

Dearest fiend! The love I bear thee can afford, no better term than this: thou art a villain!

THE SACRED FLAME FOR A SISTER NOW LOST

It is with great sorrow and solidarity that the brothers Helvets and the remainder of their kin invite all those of the Commonwealth to honour their departed sister; the Princess Arianne Renée Helvets, first-born daughter to the late King of Kaedrin Adrian I. After a week’s long expedition unto the lands pillaged and plagued by the sea-peoples moored upon the northern shore it was with great trepidation that the remains of their beloved sister were recovered from a lone and gruesome fate. Else-wise left for the maggots; beneath the earth without use of even a simple wooden casket. It was there in this place marked by a simple tombstone from which she had therefore been recovered; the forest nearby torched to extinction and the soil muddied and prone to degradation. Under guard of the Imperial Garrison all Provincial residents are invited to attend the ceremony which will be held at the Palace of Varoche, inside the small Chapel to St. Peter. There she will be put to rest, in accordance with the wishes of her family and with all the honours due her by Rhoswenii tradition. By the words of loved ones and upon a sacred flame to lift her soul from earth to the heavens above.

The late Princess Helvets was unerringly kind and charitable, the model of a Rhoswenii women in all aspects. Sent to the Haeseni Court and betrothed to a King the marriage was not to be, and so she chose to remain and lay down her life in defense of that Kingdom, the mistake of a rushed burial on the field of battle now finally able to be rectified and reversed by GOD’s good grace. Her spirit made ascendant via the safe passage guaranteed by the pious people of her home country, in the shadow of Saint Catherine’s holy bosom.

Held in highest regard and is survived by the three brothers of Helvets, Henry Frederick, Robert Castor, and Richard Victor, as well as her youngest sister Margaret and their children, who will never forget their blessed sibling.
