  1. Back from a long break away from LotC. My computer was all sorts of horrible and died on me, but now I'm back!

  2. This...this is just ridiculous. It's funny how when things like this pop up you can see just how polarized a community can be. There's always going to be two sides, though they may not exactly be even in size, and both sides always believe beyond a doubt that they are right. There is never facts because each side is based off of one person's side. It's difficult to get to the heart of it because two differing viewpoints create two differing stories with wholly different opinions on who is in the wrong. After sides are chosen, people take their stances. Viewpoints hardly change and most are inflexible. Bickering ensues and chaos erupts. That's what this is and that's what it's going to be if people don't take the time to think for themselves or look past their iron-clad beliefs. In the end this story is "he said, she said" and you need to accept that there is nothing more you need to know or make known. Each comment, flame and opinion grates against the beliefs of the other side. Even compliments, to the wrong person, are a mistake in this situation. Cut through your opinions, vaq's words and avail's words. Realize that the situation was this: LotC was made by availer. From what people say, including vaq, availer was a cool guy. Understood. Availer was big part of the server in the early days and, for whatever reason, he eventually slowed in his support for LotC. This created problems with payments and his inactivity led to players leaving as well. This led to DEMOTION, not banning. The ban came from a whole different situation, a situation in which a hurt man railed against what he viewed as an injustice and what vaq and the GM team viewed as necessary. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. Doesn't matter. Availer insulted and flamed the GM's enough to lead to his ban. Had he NOT been immature about the situation, perhaps a deal might have been worked out and in time his continued work with the server could have led to re-promotion. It didn't though and there isn't a way to tell so it doesn't really make sense to talk about it. THAT is what led to his ban. Even this current attempt is nothing more than another immature stab at Vaq. Situations like this lead to mistrust and dissent, not to acceptance and camaraderie. Especially if you consider the fact that this is almost a year later. Should he have wanted to continue on LotC in truth, all he had to do was message the GM team in private and speak with them like a rational civilized adult.
  3. I'm a bit surprised so much argument came from the Kingship benefit. As a Diamond donater, I have a title as Lord, but that doesn't really mean much in the end. I didn't make my character a Lord just because I donated, that's just silly. And I'm sure that no one would accept someone randomly claiming to be King after a large donation either. To be honest, I'm sure that no one would try anyways. What kind of troll like that would be willing to shell out $500 anyways? I'll tell you: none.
  4. I'm seeing a lot of things about the benefits and I have to wonder if you all read the whole post. Vaq stated very clearly that this was just a taste of donor perks for the Onyx Level. I mean, the last perk is listed as "etc.,etc., etc." I'm sure they're still looking at possible perks for the Onyx level. This isn't the final set. I'm sure once they release the Onyx Level for the public to donate up to fully, we'll know ALL of the donor perks for it. Til then, don't worry about what the exact perks are and don't complain on how it's too little for the amount donated. You don't even know the full perks yet...
  5. I'd agree that there needs to be some reasoning for the particles too. People don't sparkle for no reason.
  6. It's not stats but your character card. There is a difference.
  7. Oh thank god. I have my soul set to two locations like 5 blocks apart on accident.
  8. *entering the city proper, you notice a new paper on the message board. The paper itself isn't new, in fact, it's anything but. It had quite obviously seen better days. Written quite hastily upon the paper in a sort of wild scribble, you barely make out the message. It reads as follows...* Looking for work and looking to sell goods. My goods include Iron Ore, Wooden Planks, Cobblestone, Stone Brick, Apples and other miscellaneous items. For any interested in employing me for work, I am skilled in excavation, swordwork and mining. I have some skill in lumberjacking, if need be, but it is not my strongest suit. Contact me in Hanseti or by bird. -Kayde "North" ((contact me as simplyskyler ig))
  9. *A bird lands near you with a piece of paper rolled carefully and placed within its leather holster. The words upon the page are small and written hastily with an uneven spacing. It's a bit difficult to understand, but you get the gist of it.* Student Application Name: Kayde "North" Residence: I currently wander, mostly among the Wilds but I am willing to settle in Hanseti. An attempt, to be honest, I have already made once. An unfortunate issue with a lost passport and a shortcoming on minas left me unable to enter again. Age: I am of two and twenty years of age. Are you a citizen of Hanseti? (Yes / No )* No. *Passport required at registration. What type of magical sensitivities do you have: Truth be told, I have no knowledge of either a gift for or against magical sensitivity. Describe your magical background. My background with magic is weak, at best. I grew up in small farming village in the kingdom of Salvus. There was, to be true, very little of interest for me in my home. I felt a stranger among my own family. A traveling man came then and he paid for his room and his empty belly with song and tales. He told me of the magic in the world, and he showed me a few tricks of his own. Nothing fancy, minor telepathy at best and perhaps a good slight of hand at worst. His words and show, however, left me thoughtful and in wonder. In time, my discomfort and my own curiosity led to an escape of sorts within the realm of learning. I spent hours reading, poring over all sorts of tomes. In time, I grew to yearn for knowledge in all its forms. What little I know of magic is hearsay from these books, words from a traveler's lips and my own futile struggle to learn more among the destroyed and unintelligible ruins of the world. I had hoped that, in time, I could learn and use magic myself...but six years have passed since I left my home and I must now begin to accept that perhaps a more traditional path to learning may be required. How many years have you been able to control/conjure this power? As far as I am aware, I have no powers to control though I do thoroughly hope to learn of some in time. What subjects do you wish to learn? I wish to learn all that I could be taught. Healing, shamanism, telepathy, conjuration...I have no care for mine own ability to use these magics, though should it come to happen...it would not be unwelcome. I care only for the learning and the power that comes with knowledge of the world. Perhaps, in time, I may teach it to one more adept than I myself may be. Have you ever been exposed to dark magic? If so, elaborate: If I have, I must admit that I am unaware of its existence. I have yet to meet a man of magic myself, other than the traveler, and I am quite sure that he was no man of darkness. Perhaps in the ruins and caves I often explore I may have been near something of dark magic, but to mine own knowledge I have not been exposed to any of it.
  10. Kayde remembered his first sighting of Hanseti. The great stone statues outside the city astounded him and the gate was the largest he had yet seen. The cold of the place, perhaps, was best left forgotten. Unfortunately, goods were hardly goods if they did not earn him enough minas to keep the clothes on his back and the food in his belly. So, yet again, he found himself outside that huge gate. With a sigh, he turned to the passport office. "We meet again..." he muttered lowly, before entering. And...no guards. Again. "...just my luck." With a sigh, he sat down awaiting some form of rescue from the horror that is paperwork and waiting.
  11. It's done. Freya said to PM her with it by midnight on the 19th.
  12. It's not like it's 1000 minas to restock the shop block, only to start it up. Take your losses and wait for it to make profit. Eventually you'll get your money back as long as you keep the shop running...which, to me, is just an incentive to keep your store stocked and operating. 100 minas would let anybody who votes for the server to make a shop a day. Tell me how that's NOT a bad idea.
  13. I'll tell you what's wrong with RP-only shopping: someone actually has to be there. There are 3 stores in Salvus and of the three, I've only found one that is ever open. And that's less than half the time I've been there. I'm not a regular among the big cities, but every time I've visited a capital I can NEVER find a shop that I can actually buy from. My first two days on this server consisted of me walking from town to town trying to find a place that sold bows and arrows. It was VERY annoying.
  14. Sounds like my kinda thing. I'm warning you now though, 300 words is a pittance. You'll get much more than that from me. ;)
  15. Trying to get my plot protected, but lord if it isn't annoying...

  16. From the perspective of a player new to RP servers and no fast travel as a whole, I have to admit some trips seem nearly impossible. I have made the trip to Hanseti three times out of the maybe 10 times I have attempted it. I have died to all manner of monsters and I have died to slips when my hunger gets too low. It takes me over 20 minutes to make it to there from the Cloud Temple and unfortunately, I forgot to set my soul there. So basically, I'm screwed. I've died enough times trying to make it back that I half don't want to try again. I'm seriously ready to walk away from the thought of ever making it back to Hanseti...which is unfortunate as I really like the town. But without the minas to pay for an escort, food or weapons, I'm basically screwed. I would love some sort of travel option between some of these cities...even if I had to walk 10 minutes out, at least it could cut my travel time and possibly save my life and goods at some point.
  17. A new shiver racked his body as his hands pulled his dark cloak tighter before adjusting the position of his mask. Though the cold of mountains bit at his skin, Kayde knew that stand it. At least, that is, for now. He had little, but the few wares he did have might get him enough minas to get through the coming days, enough time for him to perhaps find more work. If the signs were anything to go by, he was close. Very close. The path broke away into a stone bridge and great carvings of men stood before him. Kayde stopped, momentarily awed at the great structures. "Six years on the roads and in the Wilds, and I've yet to see anything so...big. Feh, what have you Salvus?" Kayde shook his head and continued his mutterings as he marched on against the wind, his mind already working to wrap his head around every little detail as his eyes darted to and fro to take everything in. Eventually the way gave to a path between the two towering mountains and Kayde made his way toward what looked to be a city carved into the very rock of the great mountains. Great iron bars blocked his entry, though Kayde eventually noticed a small sign pointing him towards a nearby door that read "Passport Station." Eyebrow raised, he eventually shrugged before making his way in. What harm could a bit of paper do? The room was noticeably...well, empty. It felt odd and uncomfortable, but Kayde was a dutiful citizen and he did well to abide by the law. He knew that to break it would not be...conducive, shall we put it, to his travels and studies. So he stood next to the counter, waiting. None came, but that did not deter him...someone had to come eventually...right?
  18. Waiting to be accepted into the server. Hoping I'll be able to get in after I get back from work at least, though before would be better too.

  19. Out-Of-Character: Minecraft Account Name: simplyskyler Did you attend minecon and sign up at the LOTC booth?: I'm afraid I haven't. I'm fairly new to Minecraft as both a game and a community. How old are you?: I am 20 years old. Time-Zone/Country of Residence: I am a citizen of the United States of a America. Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Yes, I would like to think that I have a good grasp on English. Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: If I had to describe myself in two words, it would be curious and cautious. I'm the guy who likes to learn for the fun of knowledge but is smart enough to know what killed the cat. How much time could you be on the server weekly?: Currently I spend quite a few hours every day online. I am starting up a job, but I doubt it will influence my play time too drastically. What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you.: I haven't yet had the opportunity to immerse myself in a true roleplaying community but it hasn't been for lack of trying. I see roleplaying as a sort of verbal joust, the epitome of the pen versus the sword. Unfortunately, every community I attempt to immerse myself in fails spectacularly at actually attempting to roleplay. In your own Words, describe what Metagaming and Powergaming are. I will admit that I cheated a bit here and had to look it up. I've never stuck with a roleplaying community long enough to actually learn the terminology, mostly because I was a bit sickened by the large lack of actual roleplaying in the games I tried. Metagaming: The use of ANY sort of knowledge your character really should NOT know. That's really the best I can do for describing it. Examples include information obtained while OOC, information obtained from previous characters played with no relation to your current character, etc. Powergaming: Say a Bandit is waylaying an unsuspecting Victim. Bandit starts off the RP with something like "I shoot an arrow from behind you and hit you in the head." Automatically suggesting that his attack would be successful and implying that his victim is dead is a form of powergaming. Something less extreme would be say a bound prisoner saying "I work at my ropes and manage to get the off. I sneak away unseen." Use of absolutes in roleplay situations and attempting to always come out on top generally give your roleplaying the feel of powergaming. What do you expect this server will be like?: I can't say what I will expect but I can say what I can hope for. I hope that the server is the community I'm looking for. I hope there is little to no OOC conversations and I hope that it pushes against the boundaries of Minecraft enough to warp it into a new world for me. What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: Roleplaying Servers? None. I've spent time on prison servers, vanilla servers, creative servers, etc. I'm a big fan of trying everything out and I look for the best in the areas I'm looking for. I'll be honest: this seems to me to be the most serious roleplaying experience I've seen yet. I never actually leave a server unless it seems ridiculous. The more I like a server, the more time I'll spend on it. Currently, most of my time is spent on 100% Vanilla. Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Yes. Though I do admit I'll probably have to re-read the ones pertaining to towns and whatnot a few more times for it to really sink in. How did you hear about us?: Minecraft-Server-List.com Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you? No, I have not. I can and will should I be accepted, however. What is your The Lord Of Craft forum account name?: Kayde North In-Character: Character Name: Kayde "North" What is your Race?: Human Biography(This should include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Kayde is a young man of twenty-two from a small village in the Kingdom of Salvus. His early childhood was peaceful but ...in the end the quiet life was not for him. He became passionate about learning and knowledge after a wanderer showed him sleights of hand he had called magic and wove tales of other worlds and of races with power unimaginable, like the Ascended or the Undead. Kayde left his village in search of knowledge at the young age of sixteen despite his parent's please for him to stay. His adventures as a wanderer took him far and wide, his main source of income only that gained from the work he could find in his travels...legitimate or illegitimate. For the most part, Kayde is curious and cautious, cold and callous, though he has an aggressive streak as wide as a river. He will not hesitate to attack should the situation demand it. His appearance is remarkably average in almost every way: he is of average height with light skin, black eyes and reddish-brown hair. The name "North" is actually a pet name his parents gave to him as a child for his cold demeanor. Kayde grew to like the name and eventually took it as his own while on his travels. Your characters ambitions: Kayde's ambitions are simple: he wishes to explore the world for knowledge. He doesn't care what it is or how useful it may actually be to him, his ultimate goal is learn everything that he can about the world and its inhabitants. Out in the Wilds, your character comes across a small cottage. Outside, there appears to be an elf struggling combat with two bandits. What does your character do? Unless the bandits took some sort of aggressive stance to Kayde, Kayde would most likely not help the elf. Unless of course the elf seemed well enough off that Kayde might be able to make something from helping him. The bandits, on the other hand, would most likely not appeal to Kayde as anything other than a target: those who stoop to banditry often have little to offer in the ways of knowledge or gratitude. There would be nothing to gain from them but the items off their corpses. Should Kayde help the elf, he would most likely used ranged attacks from a bow to even the odds. Your character walks up to a shop in a quiet market. "Hello, my good sir!" says the shop owner. "What may I help you with today?" How does your character answer? Kayde has little time for pleasantries or even often the basics of civilization. The quiet of his wanderings has grown to suit Kayde and he is quick and to the point with all of his conversations. Kayde would most likely reply only with what he needs from the shopkeeper. A screenshot of your skin: See the attached picture. Other Information: I'm rather new to minecrafting and roleplaying as a whole. I am fluent, however, in the English language and am well-read in all sorts of fantasy novels. I am attempting this with a calm and cautious person because it is closest to my own personality and his own coldness is more for a way to ease myself into roleplaying. Being cold and quiet allows me the opportunity to speak as little as possible while I'm getting used to it, really.
