How old are you?:
Twenty-six
Time-Zone/Country of Residence:
Denmark - GMT + 2:00
Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:
I'd like to think that I do. But of course I'm as likely to make mistakes as anyone, especially when typing fast.
Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:
I'm a Danish citizen, born and raised in the cold wolf-ridden tundras of Scandinavia. I work as a teacher and I love working creatively and cooperating towards larger goals. I'm equally at home in groups or on my own.
How much time could you be on the server weekly?:
It wholly depends on my schedule, I have the most time on Fridays and during weekends. Being European I tend to log in during low-population hours on week-days.
What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:
Roleplaying, to me, is all about interaction and creativity. Imagining up a character, placing him or her into a given setting and exploring the creations of others through the eyes of said character is very exciting. It's also a chance to create a being from scratch which may either accentuate my own flaws and qualities, or be a creature completely removed from who I am and how I think in reality. No other medium gives such a high degree of personal freedom (or responsibility) in terms of applying one's imagination.
What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?:
I'm an avid roleplayer, and have been since I was around five when I was first introduced to Dungeons & Dragons, so you might say that I have twenty odd years of RP experience. I've tried pretty much every kind, from p&p to LARP, to text-based and MMO roleplaying games. I won't pretend that I am better than anyone at else it though. In my mind, there's always something to be learned from others. And I know I've seen many people newer to roleplaying than myself make truly inspirational characters and plots.
In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:
Metagaming as I see it, is not only acting on information which your character would not (and perhaps could not) be in possession of, but also making decisions and saying things in-game which would be out of character. Typically because it might benefit your character more by doing so. For example; if the simple but well-meaning stablehand chooses to pocket a valuable ring dropped by his lord rather than returning it (because his player had heard it was enchanted and highly sought after), while his character is said to be honest and just. That would to me look as metagaming, if the player decided to go against the nature of his character to gain something he otherwise wouldn't have.
In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is:
Powergaming would be the act of imposing your will on others without their consent. The most common form of powergaming which I've witnessed is done by people who cannot accept their characters being defeated in any form or way, and who tend to often "modify" what their character can survive/overcome just to remain on top of a conflict. Worst case scenario is if the person actually considers him/herself to be the protagonist of the game world, while all other players are simply stand-ins in his/her story. To put it bluntly, it's disruptive and often borders on outright cheating.
What do you expect this server will be like?:
I have little experience with roleplaying in minecraft, but I certainly expect that the people before me who all took the time and effort to apply are intent on doing their best to entertain themselves and others, while utilizing the mechanics of the game to create a world which is interesting to explore and be a part of. I hope to make some new friends both in and out of character while engaging in RP here.
What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:
I've played on a few private servers, primarily Danish ones and one international one which focused on "semi-rp" with nation states, wars and politics. I've never left them, however. Two were shut down from lack of interest and the latter has not updated since version 1.2.3.
Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:
I have, and I agree to all terms.
Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:
I promise to never intentionally break any rule or law, including the server, forum and teamspeak rules.
How did you hear about us?:
Via the minecraft forums.
Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?:
This is my first application to LordoftheCraft.
In-Character:
Character Name:
Torvald Twostone
What Race are you?:
Dwarf
What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):
None
Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):
Torvald was born into the world on a particularly nondescript Tuesday afternoon. The first light he saw as his tiny eyes opened was that of the smouldering torches above, which unbeknownst to him at the time would become his most trusted ally in the darkness as he grew up in a family of miners and metalworkers. Proud craftsmen all, to whom an illuminated workplace often meant the difference between a safe walk home and a long, perilous fall. His upbringing was a stern but fair one, and mistakes were permitted providing they were never repeated. Above all else tradition, honor and respect for his family was drummed into the head of the young boy until he could recite his line of forefathers in his sleep. Though Torvald had a natural knack for shaping the stone, he discovered a passion for potion-making relatively early in his life, which he was begrudgingly allowed to pursue as long as it did not interfere with his "real" work.
Torvald was in nature like dwarves are most, hearty, brave and happiest when hard at work, though his oft-surfacing lack of patience and his tendency towards poorly-timed humor was usually ill-received by his fellows in the mines and at the forge. As he reached adulthood among his peers, his short golden beard with its silver clasps had earned him quite a few nicknames, some more kind than others. And although he was neither the strongest nor fastest dwarf, he knew his craft and had confidence in his own abilities with a pickaxe. And as with all young men, eventually came the time when he bade the family home and parents farewell and set off to carve his place in the world, whether it would be in stone remained to be seen.
What is your Character's ambitions?:
To secure his place in the world, and to see what wonders it holds. In the far future he certainly hopes to find himself a wife and settle down, though his short term ambitions are usually limited to finding a way to make ends meet and not going to bed on an empty stomach. While he has no illusions of going above his station or wielding any sort of power over others, he dutifully believes that through hard and honest toil almost anything can be accomplished.
What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc):
Torvald prefers a sturdy steel axe, though if necessarily he is equally at home in battle with the pickaxe iconic to his kind.
What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?
Apart from his skills as a stoneworker and a smith, Torvald also has an affinity for alchemy which may often find him picking herbs and flowers in sunny meadows (trying very hard not to be seen while doing so, obviously).

Other Information about your Character:
He has a mild case of arachnophobia, stemming from an encounter with a giant spider during a tunnel expansion when he was younger. He is utterly disgusted by the creatures and prefers not to put himself in situations where he is forced to fight them.
Open-Response-Questions
Whilst travelling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?
Adhering to the old "think-talk-act" school of reasoning, the dwarf assessed the situation as he approached the three figures. "Hold up there", he said in a voice which he hoped sounded at least somewhat authoritarian. "I don't recognize your markings, sirs." A short pause later he continued; "By which right are you giving that poor man such a hard time?". Assuming he was not going to like the answer, Torvald instinctively moved his hand to the axe fastened to his belt, his gaze securely set on the warriors.
Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?
"I'm not sure, exactly". The dwarf would say while stroking his beard, something which those who knew him well would know he tended to do whenever he was unsure of someone's motives. "To tell the truth I just wandered over because I was curious about your wares, do you think you'd have something in there that'd interest me?"
Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:
Straining to hold the sword at arms length, the dwarf scoffed and mumbled, "A sword of gold, what a terrible waste of metal. Heavy, unbalanced and good for barely a single blow". He put it back in the chest, looking around him for a moment to reassure himself that the hut really was as desolate as it had appeared at first glance. As he lifted one of the iron bars and weighed it in his hand, he thought to himself; "A sword like that must have made its way here from the home of someone well-off. And if it's stolen goods, whoever hid it will probably come back for it sooner or later". Taking a small parchment and a set of ink and quill from his pack, the dwarf proceeded to write a short note. He then placed the note in the chest besides the sword, put the iron bars into his pack and lifted the chest to place something underneath before setting it back down carefully. Then he wandered off, in the direction of the nearest road. The note read, "To whomever reads this: I've taken the iron bars and left their worth in gold under the chest, hopefully the money will be of as much use to you as the metal will be to me. Signed, a thankful craftsman"
Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?
"Well met, I-" the dwarf would start in his native tongue, but stopped and gawked for a moment. Recalling the common tongue was not the foremost thing on his mind, with the growling of his stomach like a wounded bear. Slowly, he spoke again, this time in common: "Well met, I am Torvald, son of Ulgrid. I must have lost my way in these woods, and I have not eaten for days. Could I buy food and water from you?". Although weary and tired from the lack of nourishment, the dwarf kept his posture in a manner that suggested that he was no more exhausted than he could still defend himself if the traders thought to take advantage of his situation, as he continued; "I've things to trade in return, and I know my way around a forge if need be".
You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:
"Reward or not..", Torvald bellowed to the rest of the people gathered in the town square, "Bandits and thugs are despicable leeches feeding off of honest men and women!". Waddling over to one of the yet-undecided men of the village, poking him lightly in the chest with a stubby finger, he went on; "If they're allowed to take the lives and belongings from travellers today, who is to say they won't try to take the homes and possessions of this town tomorrow?". Then turning to the leader of the guard with firm nod, he finished by saying, "I'll fight with you, I can't very well stand by and watch this injustice". And although he knew he was neither a great nor eloquent speaker, Torvald still hoped that he had roused at least a few more of the townfolk to stand up for themselves at that moment"
