  1. Azorella sits quietly for a moment, contemplating as Andria presents her thoughts. After some short deliberation, she delivers her own little viewpoints on the topic:

While there are certainly things elcihi requires funding for, as for the state of the market... there seems to be mostly emptiness looming in the storefronts. Taxation of market stalls and entrepreneurial Mali is certainly a valid method of raising funds but if there is little to none to tax, I question what the use of the tax is in the first place.

Perhaps, in the meantime, whilst the stalls are rather empty, we ought to do away with this tax to encourage shopkeepers to try and start a business. Then, depending on the circumstances, we can decide whether we wish to re-implement a tax or if it is better without.

Additionally, since, as Andria pointed out, elcihi is in need of Avanite in order to finish construction, perhaps we could find an alternative method to fundraising.... perhaps a city stall just outside or the like? For instance, I had contemplated upon selling surplus blank books in order to raise funds for the library.  If perhaps we can develop alternative methods for fundraising, taxation won't have to be our only default option and removing any taxes will not strike such a blow to the city's resources.

  2. With a small huff and a grumble, Azorella dumps a number of forms and a lock box on a table, with a small announcement pasted nearby:

    Greetings lliran,

In light of the number of distinct opinions that seem to be floating about, it seems pragmatic to try and assess the situation via a survey of sorts. Below is a stack of survey forms which I encourage any passerby to fill out, however, if one is not a resident of Haelun'or, please indicate such where appropriate.

Respondents are not required to complete the fill-in-the blank sections, although such is appreciated.

The data will be appropriately analyzed for eventual use in some manner.

    ahernan,

    Okarir'indor Azorella Coulissante

    OOC: Survey! >> http://goo.gl/YocuCl <<

Many thank yous to any respondants!

    Edit: The trolls have the most amusing responses. I might post them up later (;

Keep up the great work guys!

  3. Crayfishchris and I were working on this up until about school started and junk and it's not even close to being finished, but if anyone would like to help they'd be welcome to it!

Anyways, the following is sort of the beginnings of a kind of "Elven Textbook" complete with explanations and exercises (solutions too!) for those interested. We thought it might make it easier for folks to learn the ins and outs of the Elven Language what with all its little funny intricacies and unusual grammar.

We weren't planning on releasing it for awhile, but anyways..:
    http://goo.gl/EFaEkT

Sidenote: I cannot guarantee everything in there is correct!! This has not been seriously proofread as far as I know!

I realize the Elven Language most probably has some flaws and can be a difficult to get a hang of, and.. I'm also not terribly familiar with Quenya/Sindarin so it's difficult for me to form any sort of judgement between the two, but I really love that the server was able to come up with all these fabulous and interesting different languages and I hope that maybe there's a way we can make them easier for everyone to use. ^ ^

  4. Q: How is magic taught?

A: Right off the bat everyone is capable of meditation via the magic-mode. Upon casting, your Persona sinks into a minute-long trance. This time of deep thought and heightened awareness provide time for your Persona to literally learn from their surroundings and inherit the spells of the earth. What magic you learn is dependent on many factors, every time you meditate you will receive different results and we encourage that you travel the world. The places you visit will affect your chances of learning and the nature of the spell, and the choice of what kinds of spells you seek to learn are in your hands.

For clarification's sake, I'm curious if there's any way to direct what kind of subtype our personas might learn? Like, my character, and I'm certain any other RPly established mage as well, already knows a particular subtype in RP, but as I understand this, it seems like learning spells is based on where they happen to meditate. What happens if they accidentally meditate in the wrong place?

When my character learned fire evocation, she first started by learning how to connect to the void. She had a little help with that but essentially self taught afterwards by focusing on the properties of fire. This was a conscious choice on my, the player's part, though, in order to reflect her character. When I developed her back story, she had an intrinsic fascination with fire so fire evocation seemed like the logical choice for her.

So.. essentially... switching subtypes by a mechanical accident suddenly and with little RP reason to do so kinda.. scares me.. sorry!

Like, the magic plugin sounds like a really cool way to reflect my character's RP developments, but what if she learns a spell that doesn't reflect her character at all? Would there be a way to cancel learning the spell or forget it? (Maybe like cancelling pokemon evolutions? (; )

I mean, yeah, I could accidentally learn a spell and not use it, but I'm assuming it gets harder to learn additional spells after learning a few and like.. I would like mergh mechanics to reflect muh roleplay please! <33 It would make me sad if I couldn't use this plugin cause of accidental meditation or something q-q

I wouldn't mind meditating all over Athera to find out where she can learn a fire spell to reflect her magic mechanically, but I can't help but find it kind of weird if she suddenly learns a water spell or electricity spell when she has no business learning such--especially if she can't forget it or cancel the learning process.

Also, if I remember correctly, it's supposed to be harder and harder to learn multiple kinds of subtypes, and nary impossible to learn more than three subtypes. Will this be reflected in the plugin? It would seem to kind of destroy the point of arranging all the different magics into different subtypes if folks can cherry-pick what they want by meditating in a bunch of different places, although I kind of get it if this is difficult to do code-wise.

Thanks a bunch though! This looks like a cool way to augment our RP and immersion! Please pardon my concerns! Sorry if I went on any weird tangents!

  5. I was trying to understand some of the grammar structure for Elven today and I got a little confused by sentences with a syntax similar to that of "valmiran saneyreyae." For sentences similar to the example, I wasn't sure if it was more correct to interpret it as "The artists discuss." or "They discuss the artists." due to the possibility of an inferred subject.

Is there a way to specify when something is the subject or object of a sentence to avoid ambiguity?

  6. After a final scratch with her quill, Azorella sends the following letter to each citizen as well as the current Hieal’thilln for consideration:

Good lliran, since, as it were, I find myself surrounded by both familiar and unfamiliar faces in Tahn’siol, it seems prudent to summarize my past deeds and future endeavors in my bid for the seat of Okarir'indor.

When I first arrived in Haelun’or—during the time of Asulon—I was starved for sustenance, safety, and knowledge. Haelun’or provided all that with an unmatched generosity and eloquence. It has been my ongoing endeavor to repay that generosity. Books have always been my constant companions and tending to our venerated library in Kalos, Elysium, and Anthos has been my whole-hearted pleasure. I continued these duties through the beginnings of Lin’evaral, before I was elected as one of the Medi’iran, wherein the responsibility was passed down to the newly selected Tilruir’indor. Tending to literary treasures has always been an absolute delight and I desire to put my previous experience into practice once more.

Additionally, I have many decades of experience with the arcane as a practicing fire evocationist, and should hope that this may be helpful in the registrative duties of Okarir’indor.

Most importantly, however, is the furthering of the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya. As of late, it seems we have been relatively successful in fending off major external threats—such as Dwarves—and surviving the more ‘internal’ threat of the Plague. While one needs to stay ever vigilant against impures, it seems an otherwise advantageous time to take grand strides in the expansion of our maehr. I hope to, in the least, further the education of Mali’ii by resuming classes and to find new opportunities for our resident scientists to further their research.

    maehr’sae hiylun’ehya,

    Azorella Coulissante

  7. A presumptuous parchment has been posted up near the Mali'aheral inn...

     HIYLUN

A significant number of our fellow brethren appear to have forgotten one of our most important duties. Whilst devoting oneself to the sciences and the betterment of our race is a noble goal in and of itself, to accomplish this, one must first exist. In order to exist, one had to have been brought into being by two others. I wish to put this lightly without denying the importance of this duty, but, so to speak, one must produce offspring in order to better the race overall. Thinking selfishly will not promote the collective good.

Unfortunately, there are a vast number of Mali’aheral who have stubbornly forsaken this all-important duty. Thusly, I have surmised a number of propositions to rectify this fault. These propositions, once enforced, should ensure that all Mali’aheral of proper age have ample opportunity to fulfill the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya.

    1. Mali’aheral, once registered as citizens, must wed within 100 years of their citizenship unless under the age of 150.

    2. Mali’aheral children and youths, after the age of 50, must wed within 200 years.

    3. Those who refuse to wed within the allotted timeframe will be wed to one selected by the state in order to provide them ample opportunity to further the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya.

    4. Those who have produced at least three offspring or are over 650 years of age are not required to remain wed should they so choose.

    5. Additionally, those who have produced at least four offspring or are over 700 years of age, are permitted to delve into whatever forbidden relationship they desire, with the added benefits of collective scorn and derision, so long as they never engage this relationship with an impure or non-Mali'aheral.

Of course, once this law comes into effect, I propose that those who have qualified for proposition (3), be allowed 50 years of leeway to wed before the state steps in [1]. Additionally, I would expect for the state to create a small but effective council in order to enforce and facilitate these propositions should qualifying Mali’aheral refuse to fulfill their birth-endowed duties.

I need not put this bluntly: without reproducing, the Mali’aheral race will cease to exist. We ought take care that the Valah weeds not scatter and choke out those more worthy of life.

               maehr’sae hiylun’ehya,

                              Azorella Coulissante

[1] To elucidate, after the passing of these propositions: if a Mali’aheral over 200 years of age has not wed, they shall be expected to do so within 50 years, unless they have been a citizen for less than 50 years, then they will have what is remaining of the 100 years allotted to them in proposition (1). If a Mali’aheral under 200 years of age has not wed, they shall be expected to do so by age 250. Thusly, the youngest age a Mali’aheral might be subjected to proposition (3) will always remain at 250 years of age.

As this referendum has not yet been passed, expected ages for marriage may still as of yet be adjusted.

Significant space has been left below for signatures, notes, comments, etc.

  8. Azorella huffs and puffs and pins up a small note,

Perhaps it is not so much a neglect in duties as it is a repetitive and blatant disrespect for constituents and his lack of tact that Delonna is most at fault for. However, unless absolutely called for, this secretive nature of the government seems most undesirable. Even when I held a position as Medi'ir, the other Triumvirate members admitted to neglecting to inform and discuss with me many critical matters with the excuse that it 'did not concern' me. (Even matters concerning violent behaviors that threatened to harm Lin'evaral.) Such behavior begs the question of whether these administrators of the office are merely keeping dangerous information out of the hands of 'untrustworthy' citizens, or whether they have a more heinous reasoning behind their silence. What one does not know cannot possibly hurt them, right?

However, one would highly suggest Delonna brush up on his manners before he brushes another of his fellows the wrong way. Perhaps it would save us all some trouble in the future since this is not the first notice that I have seen regarding his brash demeanor. Simple requests shouldn't stir up riots like this. Honestly, are we crude Valah?

Simply because a conversation may seem inconvenient, does not make it unworthy of its while.

As based solely upon the postings, since I obviously wasn't present at this mishap, one may also note that Volet seems, in fact, somewhat entitled to the information he requested, since, he is, as far as I'm informed, a Tilruir'sil, no? One who holds responsibility for the security of a nation ought know what goes in and out of it, otherwise they wouldn't be performing their duties very well.

Mali'aheral are not like mere Orenian citizens, but are all leaders in their own right.

And finally, good Delonna, if your notice summarizes all of your objections to informing Volet of what he asked for, couldn't a courteous, "Apologies llir, I cannot inform you of that information at this time." have sufficed? or even a quick, "Apologies llir, I cannot inform your person, but be assured that your superior officer knows enough of the information you request to ensure the security of the Mali'aheral." One needn't be a rude Valah, goodness.

Reason masked by brashness is hardly reasonable at all.

maehr'sae hiylun'ehya, lliran'ayla. May the pure spread wisdom and health amongst the pure.

    -Azorella Coulissante

With another harumph, Azorella notes that her short note was not at all short, wrinkles her nose, and marches off with a long step to her stride.

  9. With a twitch in her eyebrow and sneer in her pout, Azorella writes a little rebuttal:

Homosexual relationships are a waste of time and fertility. Unless one is infertile, homosexuality is entirely unproductive. The same goes for Mali'aheral who decide against choosing a partner to reproduce with. A waste of fertility is a grave one as Mali'i are precious indeed. An increase in numbers equals an overall increase in productivity, thus it seems prudent to try and reproduce as much as reasonable.

As such, I'm inclined to disagree with the current Tier system. Those raising a family are contributing the most to society. Those too stuck up in their work are a waste of fertility unless they are already infertile. One ought find a balance between the two to contribute the most in both regards.

Otherwise, one finds this document in and of itself not entirely disagreeable.

    maehr'sae hiylun'ehya,

    Azorella Coulissante

With a disdainful grunt, the elfess grumbles as she walks off.

  10. Azorella rolls over in her sleep, suspecting something afoot. She clambers out into the main chamber of the Tomb and peruses the walls for posters, frowning distinctly at one with familiar handwriting. She stares at the words "Kalenz Uradir" for a moment and produces a quill with a flourish, crosses the name out, and writes "NOT-KALENZ".

With a momentary grunt, she examines her handiwork before lumbering back to her slumber.

"Madness..." she mumbles to herself, "Utter madness..."

With an angry sneer she adds, "The fiend."

"Kalenz Uradir is not so foul as this fool."

  11. Little plump Pern waddles up, a fat and juicy carrot in his hand, as always. Looking about in mild confusion, he waddles to the top of a little step and waves his carrot around dramatically.

    Hear ye! Here ye!

He appears a little confused by what spouted out of him, clears his throat and continues.

I am Aylun'sae Tenna'tahu and I think you all are confused with your priori... priorit.. priorities!

The most important thing in life is food! For food is what makes life!

So, we should all focus on making pretty and bouti.. bounti.. bountiful gardens!...

A bit of confusion floods over him for a second before he shakes it off and speaks again.

As er.. Madi.. Medi'ir! I would make vast gardens and feed everyone and make things happy!

And... and... this would support.. support the hiylun of the maehr'sae hiylun'ehya, so...

    I should be Madi-.. Medi'ir!

He waves his carrot around once more before waddling off.

  12. Name: Aylun'sae Tenna'tahu

  13. Grumbling while bumbling about the Tomb, Azorella snatches up a copy of the form and glares at it for a moment before whipping out an ink bottle with a flourish, dripping a massive ink blotch upon the form, scrawling an angry note at the bottom, and returning it to the stack. With a snort and a huff she struts off.

  14. Spotting the curious poster, Azorella does a quick skim before hatching a plot to find Silir'ilume a partner. After darting off to fill out the form, she sends a swift bird to this 'Viola' on his 'behalf'.

50 minas accompany the form, as well as a note: If you are successful, I shall send additional funds, for this is a most pressing matter.

  15. As of yet still on her fool's errand, Azorella tacks up a fresh poster in place of the half-eaten one, but also adds some additional, ratty posters beneath the stark parchment. ((See Edits))

She steps back, grunting distinctly due to her distaste in finding Uruk (of all things!) in a place to defile her notices. Surely, she thinks, these Uruk intend to oppress the Mali! and struts off with a harumph.
