“To all who bare the ancient name, Lenetta.

For seven years I have wandered alone, shared my songs with those who would listen. But a lone Songbird’s warbling is oft drowned out in the grand concert of bustle that is this wild world we live in. I grow lonely wandering alone, I miss my kin and I miss the comfort of our wagons, the taste of our food, and the strength of our reindeer.

It is time we came together as one once more. Songbirds should not live apart. We are of the same nest, and should travel in the same flock. We must rebuild our old way of life. We will rebuild our wagons, and sing, dance and laugh together as we did during better times.

I have scouted this new land and found good soil outside of the gates of Avalain, a decent city of decent folk. I believe we will be welcome there, and it serves as as good a place to reconvene as any.

Come find me there, sons and daughters of Faelian. And may the Raven and the Eagle be with you on your travels always.

    Regards,

    Eleyas”

  3. The Songbirds

    Tribe of the Four Winds

    c3OWfZb.png

    Synopsis

The Songbirds, known in the elven tongue as the Lenetta, are a wood elven Seed who live a nomadic life, roaming from city to city. They are best known as highly skilled performers, who devote themselves to putting on great theatrical shows wherever they roam.

The Lenetta are divided into two main bloodlines, the Eagle and the Raven. But, anyone who is a skilled musician and wishes to learn their customs is welcome to be part of their wandering troupe, and will be treated like family.

    Origin & History

The Lenetta seed originated with one man, an elven warrior by the name of Faelian.

In a time before recorded history, the ancestors of the mali’ame lived not in cities, but roamed the deep forests in nomadic tribes. Often, these tribes found themselves at war- for various petty reasons. An insult, a dispute over hunting grounds, a slight at a ceremony.

We know not what tribe Faelian belonged to, only that he was a fearsome fighter, whose barbarity and bloodlust in battle led many to believe he was directly possessed by the great Wolf spirit himself. Faelian took charge of many raids against his enemies, leaving a trail of blood in his wake.

As Faelian grew older and wiser, he began to see error in his ways. The remorse for the killings he had committed, and the grief he had put upon thousands of widows and orphaned children came down upon him like the weight of a mountain. He turned away from his tribe, and burned his bow and spear, swearing never to take another life. Faelian left into deep, primal wilds where he was unable to be found, and spent years living life as a recluse, drowning in guilt.

After a decade in isolation, Faelian experienced a miracle. As he drank from the pool of a clear spring, a god appeared to him in the shimmering water surface: Kwakwani, the great Raven trickster. Kwakwani spoke to Faelian, telling him there was still a chance for him to bring balance to his life, spread happiness and joy to the world to counteract the pain and suffering he had caused.

Thus, the Raven presented Faelian with three blessings. He gave the elf compassion, and took the bloodlust from his soul. He gave the elf peace to his heart. Most importantly, Kwakwani, patron of all artists, bestowed Faelian with the gift of music- giving him a voice that could charm the iciest of women, and bring tears to the hardiest of men.

Faelian the warrior died that day, and he was reborn, as Faelian the singer. He returned to the world of the elves, where his gift of music began to draw eyes across many of the wood elven tribes. He soon became the master of the lute, the harp and the pan flute. His reputation quickly grew, and soon, entire tribes would travel many miles just to hear him perform.

Over time, Faelian took a wife, Tarra, and by her had two children, a son named Lavelan, and a daughter named Hamasia. He also accumulated many followers, apprentices who wished to study the way of the song under him. They slowly grew into a tribe of their own. Faelian considered this tribe his new family, and named them Lenetta- the Songbirds.

For centuries, the Songbirds traveled from tribe to tribe, delighting men, women and children alike with their melodies. They expanded from songs, beginning to perform plays, and execute daring, dangerous stunts. Even if two tribes were at war, they would pause hostilities if Faelian and the Songbirds were travelling through their territory. No one dared harm the blessed entertainers.

Not long before our time, a cataclysm wreaked through the world of the nomadic wood elves. A war that left them so depopulated they were forced with a choice- band together and live in a city, or die out entirely. The Songbirds had escaped the destruction of this war, but were faced with a similar choice: settle into Laurelin, the new elven city, or remain true to their nomadic roots.

Faelian was ancient by now, on his last breath. But the gods were not quite yet done with him. Nemglan, the great Eagle spirit, came before him in the form of a dream. He commanded Faelian to have the Songbirds continue to wander the world, sing their songs to all who would listen. Not just elves, but to men and dwarves as well. Nemglan proclaimed that as long as the Songbirds remained true to their nomadic routes, they would always have the eagle’s blessing when travelling.

Faelian commanded this to his disciples when he awoke. Three days later, he passed away.

The Songbirds kept true to their master’s command and the eagles will. To this day, the Songbirds roam between the world’s cities, never permanently settling in one. They devote themselves to performing, making a name for themselves as artists, singers, dancers, playwrights and stunt masters, taking great joy in their craft.

    Current Bloodlines

    hUJJOD3.png5ktUzM4.png

The Songbirds are divided among two main bloodlines. The Eagle moiety, named for Nemglan who blesses the Songbirds’ travels, and the Raven moiety, named for Kwakwani who gifted their forefather Faelian with the gift of song. Elves of one bloodline are encouraged to take mates in the other bloodline to preserve genetic diversity.

    The Raven Bloodline

The Elves of the Raven bloodline are said to be descendants of Lavelan, the son of Faelian. They tend to have black hair and blue eyes. Generally they excel in musical disciplines, like singing and instrument playing.

    The Eagle Bloodline

The Elves of the Eagle bloodline are said to be descendants of Hamasia, the daughter of Faelian. They tend to have auburn hair and golden eyes. Generally they excel in physical performance, like dancing and stunts.

    The “Bloodless”

The Bloodless are elves who belong to neither bloodline, but have been welcomed into the Songbirds due to their skill in the performing arts. Bloodless are not looked down on at all. As long as they can perform, they are seen as equal members of the family.

    Appearance

Generally, the elves of the Songbirds prefer colorful clothing and jewelry that reflect their personality and preferences. Female Songbird will often gravitate towards clothing that accommodates the whimsical ways of dance. Something airy, such as silks that drape from the shoulders and hips, is ideal. They are keen on showing skin to compliment their craft; though are mildly against being too scandalous fearing that they would insult the people they are currently visiting. The same goes for male Songbird, who prefer the same airy clothing that showcases a hefty amount of skin.

Songbirds like to paint their skins in vibrant colours when performing, preferably with pigments that are easily altered or removed. Festival paints of vivid colors will be often seen dancing across bare skin in hopes of striking curiosity into the minds of the entertained.

    h9Hd98U.png

Like other ancestral wood elven tribes, the Lenetta all bare a tattoo that distinguishes them to one another. It's likeness closely resembles Kwakwani’s Wings, a marking usually meant to distinguish artists and poets of any Seed. Given that all Songbirds’ are performers, this mark has been adopted as the emblem of their tribe, with some modification. The dark shades of the raven are juxtaposed with the bright gold of the eagle, ensuring both of the tribes patron Mani are represented.

    Faith and Practice

Throughout the years, the Songbirds have followed their ancestral faith, turning their eyes toward the Aspects and the Mani, as mali’ame have for centuries. Aspectism is weaved into their arts, be it song and poetry, or through elaborate dance. Stories that have been passed down through generations have been transformed into beautiful artistic expression. Symbolism and allusion are commonly seen in their performances as ways to teach and inspire faith within their audiences.

Traditionally, the Lenetta have demonstrated Emeraldian values, placing importance on their physical and mental endurance, as seen through the stunts and acts that they perform, which seem to test the limits of what is possible with the body of mali. The tribe itself is another testament to the values of Emerald Aspectism, showing the strength of numbers often found. Unlike emerald aspectism, however, they place an importance on the worship of the Mani, the demigods of the wild. While nearly all mani find their praises being sung by the Songbirds, the patron mani of the tribe are Kwakwani the Raven, and Nemglan the Eagle.

The duty of upholding the faith is typically a mantle passed down from generation to generation. To become the Oracle of the Songbirds is to become a guide for all songbirds, in faith and through all. They serve as the spiritual center of the tribe, and train the next Oracle so that the aspects are always remembered by the great performers of the forest.

    Performances

    2a9b78d275b836d360a2e6ebae5d6ba9.jpg

Over time, the Songbirds developed many unique skills all meant to dazzle crowds and draw people in. These feats of showmanship are regularly performed today, to the delight of lucky townsfolk graced by the troubadours’ visits.

    Fortune Telling

Palm reading is a fairly simple method of fortune telling. Typically, it will take the seer a reasonable amount of time to learn how to effectively palm read and deliver forewarnings/predictions that will effectively apply to the individual and those around them.

The more risque form of fortune telling comes in tarot cards. The most recent deck is based around current Emeraldian values. Each card represents a different aspect or patron that corresponds with an element or state of being. It is up to the seer to forge a bond with each aspect or patron through rigorous meditation and religious practice. This will usually take years to master, as the seer will find it extremely difficult to maintain these bonds as they continue working through familiarizing themself with the current aspects and patrons. Though once a seer is practiced enough, they can efficiently vocalize the teachings and moral values of the cards and their basis to deliver a fortune that is not only reliable, but strong enough to guide an individual through hardship.

    Dancing

Songbird dancing is fiery, passionate and expressive. There is no stiff courtroom waltz to be found here. Belly dancing is common, as are those who play flirt with fire and steel. The Songbirds of legend were the best sword dancers and fire dancers in the world.

    Plays

At their origin, the plays the Songbirds performed were drawn exclusively from wood elven folklore. Tales of the great Animal spirits, the Aspects, and the Green Dragon were common. As the Songbirds diversified and began performing in non-Elven communities, they began to perform plays from other cultures as well. Now it is not uncommon to see Lenetta actors performing the tale of St. Owyn in human cities, or the saga of Khorvad among dwarves.

    Music

Much like in dancing, Lenetta songs originally sung exclusively about elven stories. While they are still prominent amongst the clan, Songbird bards have since begun writing songs in the common tongue, and are capable of crafting lyrics as diverse as a sea shanty is to a Qalasheen chant. The favoured instruments of the tribe are the pan flute, harp and lute. But you could give an empty moonshine bottle to the most skilled of Lenetta musicians, and he could play a tune so melodious it could bring a grown man to tears.

    Stunts

Stunts are generally performed by the most able bodied individuals in the clan. They are expected to be proficient in other art forms to physically (and mentally) prepare the body for the rigorous routines ahead. Stunt performers can walk across tightropes performing gravity-defying acts that keeps the crowd on the edges of their seats. Or they will juggle the sharpest of elven blades while dancing along to a merry tune. A performer may even play with fire while they perform; a truly awe inspiring feat in the eyes of the beholder.

    Lifestyle

The Songbirds are nomads, but by no means do they live hard lives. Over the centuries the singers have become master wagon-builders. The Lenetta are not homeless, no. Indeed, they bring their homes with them wherever they go.

    GxaV7k7.png

Lenetta wagons are built to serve all purposes. There are tavern wagons from which they serve ale to whichever city hosts them. There are kitchen wagons to feed their hungry performers. There are cozy house wagons which rival the most posh of palaces in comfort and style, and most importantly, stage wagons, designed to unfold outwards to provide a grand venue to dazzle their audiences with.

Lenetta wagons are versatile and are able to traverse across almost any terrain. They often find themselves parked outside of major cities, where the Lenetta live in their wagons outside, entertaining the townsfolk who live within.

  4. Principality of Kiev

The once united Kievan Rus was no more, split into many different principalities with varying degrees of influence. Despite that, the city of Kiev remains a hub of culture and commerce, as well as the spiritual capital of all the eastern Ruthenian/Slavic peoples. Grand Prince Ingvar Yaroslavish has ambitions to secure the future of his office, and his lands.

    Actions:

An emissary is sent to the Grand Prince of Novgorod, which states that Grand Prince Ingvar hereby offers his daughter, Grzymisława, hand in marriage to himself or his son, to secure a lasting relationship between the two sister states of Rurikid Ruthenian heritage.

    “Your Excellence, Prince of Novgorod,

Not since the era of our father’s father’s have our peoples known unity. I consider this a great tragedy. We are one people, whom share the blood of Rurik and the mighty Varangians. Our forefather’s held dominion over a thousand tribes from the Balts and the Finns to the heathen Pechenegs. I consider our fracturing to be GOD’s test for both of us, that Brothers may reunite and reconsole as the Bible commands.

I extend to you the hand of my Daughter, a fair girl of only 15 years. I hope that by joining my bloodline with yours, we can forge a lasting bond of blood that will last into the generation of our son’s sons.”

On the week leading up to January 7th, 1203, Kiev’s city larders are opened up and the Grand Prince throws a lavish festival to celebrate the Orthodox Christmas. Bread and Circuses to increase the moral of his people, his prestige among his neighbours, and to unite them under the Metropolitan priests of Kiev with Eastern Christian ritual and mass.

The Grand Prince levies an army of 12,000 men, consisting of 2,000 cataphracts and 10,000 men-at-arms. He divides them into three and stations them in three forts along his southern, Crimean border, stating his intent to protect his hinterlands from the Heathen Cumans and Tatars, who have made slaves of his people in the past.

  5. OOC APP

    Nation name: Eastern Roman Empire

    Population: 9 Million

    Summary of History:

The Byzantine Empire has never able to recover the glory it won under Justinian. Early Islamic expansion yanked Egypt and Syria out of their hands, and more recently, the Seljuk Turks delivered a devestating blow to them at Manzikert in 1071. Nevertheless, the Eastern Romans survive. The Komnenian dynasty managed to restore control over the Balkans and coastal Anatolia. With the death of Emperor Manuel, a new dynasty has risen to take the Imperial throne, the Angeloi.

Constantinople is still a flourishing center of art, culture and commerce as it has been for centuries, but with Bulgarians to the north, and Seljuks to the east, the Byzantines will face some tests going forward.

Just make it so it doesnt end in the total destruction of a nation and their tile, except in the most absolute extreme of circumstances.

War becomes a lot less toxic, and OOCly spiteful, when you remove the edgy kid’s tools to destroy communities, and communities don’t have the tension of having their entire existences at risk.

  7. I for one am happy, that in his infinite wisdom, our chairman Telanir has finally decided to rid us of outdated, tribalistic concepts like “race”. I think we should all strive for a brighter future, where we are all one people, with no borders to divide us. Come on, its the current year, people!

    Spoiler

OOC: Seeing as there’s been a growing community of east asian inspired characters on the server, I figured I would take a crack at creating a rough canon for them, so we can all RP on the same page.

This lore is also meant to be deliberately vague, so for those of you with individual clan/family histories, it should be easy to write yourself into this main easterner canon with little difficulty. The idea is all easterner RPers should draw from the same source when creating their characters backstory, so we can have a more cohesive community.

    Homeland - 帝國

    Pj6nyXo.jpg

The Easterner peoples homeland is Aeldin (Known to the Easterners as Ai-Zho), located within the south-eastern peninsula of that continent. There is no one eastern nation, but many different Kingdoms and Empires, each with different cultures and languages.

Further East of the Aeldin Peninsula is the landmass known as Xia, not pictured here. However, Xia and the eastern Peninsula of Ai-Zho serve as the main homelands of the Easterner peoples and their histories run parallel until the third era.

    History - 歷史

This is a brief summary of the history of the Eastern peoples.

    Tribal Era

The first people to inhabit the eastern peninsula of Ai-Zho are the Elves. After centuries as masters of the land, the Elves are gradually driven out by several waves of human migration. These humans settle in the mountains and plains of the eastern peninsula and become the predecessors of the Eastern Peoples.

    The First Era

The fertile river valleys of the peninsula allow for the mass-cultivation of rice. Rice becomes core to the primitive humans of the east, and hundreds of petty rice-kingdoms form along the peninsula. During this age there is very little political unity or cultural sophistication. Most small kingdoms speak their own local language/dialect, and worship a local minor god.

    Bz7nk2e.png

Most Eastern peoples settle into sedentary, rice farming lives

    The Second Era

The Hou-zi make landfall on the Eastern Peninsula, and come into contact with the humans there. The Hou-zi are a race of sentient monkeys, who despite their beast-like appearance possess superior technology and cultural sophistication. The Hou-zi owe their allegiance to Hou-Shen, their immortal God-King, who rules the far off Empire of the Golden Sun.

The monkey-folk easily conquer all the primitive, feuding rice-kingdoms of the humans, and the whole of the Eastern Peninsula becomes a province of the Hou-zi Empire. During this period, the Hou-Wen (Classical Chinese) becomes the lingua franca of the region, and all human subjects of the Empire are made to learn it.

The humans of the eastern peninsula slowly assimilate, adapting Hou-zi architecture, language, culture and religion. Through Hou-zi influence, small rice-farming villages like Heshan, Luzhou, and Changzi become bustling metropolises, thriving centers of culture and trade.

    R5hZreP.png

Under the Hou-zi, cities like Heshan become centers of culture and commerce

While most humans are second-class citizens in the Hou-zi Empire, a small class of rich human elites form. The most influential is the Li family, who have much sway in the Imperial Court, and possess their own private army. The Li rebel against the Hou-zi, gaining support from the various human peoples of the peninsula, and successfully free themselves from the yoke of Monkey rule.

    Third Era

The newly formed Li Kingdom consolidates power in the Cathant region, and begin expanding outwards. They wage a war of conquest against their human neighbours until Cunyuan, Huinan, Oyashima and Zourhenia have all been subdued. The Li Dynasty is formed, and would rule over the Eastern peoples for 400 years.

Although the Hou-zi governors had been kicked out, the Hou-zi actually remained a well-respected minority within the Li Dynasty, valued for their cultural knowledge, from which the Eastern Peoples had borrowed a lot from.

Around this period, Hou-Zi monks from the far-away Hualian monastery arrive at the port of Zhuhai. They are missionaries of a new religion began by their prophet, Hualian. Hua-jiao becomes very popular among the commoners of the Eastern Peninsula, and spreads like wildfire among its peoples.

The official language of the Li Dynasty at this time is Li-Wen, a derivative dialect of the Hou-zi tongue. But regional languages are still spoken across the Empire, the most notable being Oyashiman.

    Fourth Era

The Li Dynasty has ruled for nearly 400 years, and has become prey to stagnation and inner turmoil. Taking advantage of this, discontent vassals all over the Empire declare their independence. The first to do so are the Oyashimans, who had only been occupied around 80 years. They fight a bloody war with the Li authority. The rebels are victorious, and the Oyashiman warlords found an independent Shogunate based in the city of Yamatai.

Gradually, more and more peoples seceded. Cunyuan, Zhourennia and Huinan all form Kingdoms of their own, the era of Easterner unity is over.

Finding their populations in their homelands burgeoning, the Eastern peoples get on their ships and sail to lands far away from Ai-Zho to seek their fortunes. Pockets of Oyashimans, Cathantians and other Eastern Peoples have been seen on inhabited Continents from Anthos to Atlas over the last few centuries.

    Cultures and Peoples 民族

A list of the major cultural regions and ethnic groups of the Eastern Peninsula

    Li and Xian

    uWTuHi3.png

In Cathant, the Li family still rules, albeit over a rump state- a shadow of the Empire they once had. Their capital city is Heshan, which is still a thriving center of wealth and culture. While the Li once ruled over many peoples, the ethnic group that inhabited the Cathantian heartland of the Empire were called Li-Ren- the people of Li. Like their spiritual successors, the Hou-zi, the Li people value Jade above all things, which is associated with power and class.

In the nearby continent of Xia live the Xian, they are identical in customs to the Li, but consider themselves a seperate people, as they rebelled from the Li Dynasty early in the third era and now have a seperate history of their own.

The Li and Xian are roughly analogous to Song Dynasty China.

    Oyashiman

    FLEGGaB.png

Just behind Cathant in population and influence are the beautiful Oyashiman valleys. The Oyashimans are a proud, war-like people who value politeness, discipline and loyalty over all things. Their society is extremely rigid, with a caste system that ranks butchers and merchants as bottom-tier, peasant farmers as mid-tier, and their noble warriors as high-tier. Oyashima is ruled by a Shogun, a military dictator with many minor lords, called Daimyos, under him.

The Oyashimans are roughly analogous to Tokugawa-era Japan.

    Huinan

    y0XtC1W.png

In the First Era, the Hui peoples did not settle into rice farms like other Eastern peoples did. Their land was a rugged steppe, suited better for hunting, herding and horsemanship. Even as the Hui lived for centuries under Hou-zi, and then Li suzerainty, they never completely lost touch of their nomadic, pastoralist roots. The Hui live in cities now, and their culture is greatly influenced by the Cathantians, but are still notably more rugged than their neighbours.

The Huinan people are roughly analogous to the 14th century Manchurian and Jurchen Peoples.

    Zhou

    3tPPVbW.png

The Zhou people, as they are called, inhabit the mountainous borderlands of the Zhourennia region of the Eastern Peninsula. They once held dominion over all Zhourennia, but were pushed out by the Cathantians during the Li Dynasty. What remains of their population now live in small mountain villages, herding goats and sheep and living a generally peaceful existence. The Zhou took to Hua-jiao in greater numbers than any other eastern people. Almost all Zhou people follow the Eightfold path of Hualian, and they have the highest per capita amount of Monks per people of all the Eastern Nations.

The Zhou people are roughly analogous to the Tibetan and Nepalese peoples.

    Yuan/Salamduel

    gWTVslY.png

During the Li Empire, these peoples were called the Yuan, peoples of the Cunyuan province. Nowadays they refer to themselves in their native tongue- Salamduel, which simply means “the people”. The Salamduel inhabit the Cunyuan region, and are often the victims of Oyashiman imperialism, and have managed to fend off the Shogun and his warriors on three separate occasions in the last 200 years. The Salamduel are the best potters in the eastern peninsula, and make great barbeque.

The Yuan/Salamduel are roughly analogous to Joseon Korea.

    Languages 語言

    Li-Wen

Li-Wen (The Tongue of Li) is the Lingua Franca across all the Easterner peoples. Although there are many regional languages, Li-Wen is the tongue that all Easterners must learn so that peoples of different ethnic groups may communicate with one another.

Li-Wen is derived from the Hou-zi language (Hou-Wen), and people who speak Li-Wen can converse with the monkey folk with a solid degree of mutual intelligibility. It is the native tongue of the Li people, but is spoken as a second language across all the Eastern Peninsula.

Additionally, all Eastern Languages use the Li-script as their primary writing system.

Li-Wen is the equivalent of Mandarin Chinese. The Li-script is traditional chinese characters.

    Oyashiman

Oyashiman is the tongue of the Shogunate of Oyashima. Unlike the Li of Cathant, the Oyashimans did not assimilate linguistically to the Hou-zi, and retained their ancient pre-contact tongue. Oyashiman is regional language, but most educated people across the Eastern Peninsula can speak it.

Oyashiman is the equivalent of Japanese.

    Huinan-Hua

Huinan-Hua is the tongue of the Hui peoples. In the modern era, this language is limited mostly to the rural areas of Huinan, amongst lower class people and commoners. The nobility of Huinan mostly speak the language of the Li. Huinan-Hua endures, but it is unsure for how long.

Huinan-Hua is the equivalent of Mongolian. (As the Manchu language is mostly extinct).

    Salamduel-Eo

The language of the peoples of Cunyuan survives, despite efforts by the Oyashimans and the Li to suppress it over their various centuries of conquest and imperial rulership. This tongue is quite similar to the Oyashiman tongue, but scholars believe it has an entirely different origin to the other Eastern languages.

Salamduel-Eo is the equivalent of Korean.

    Zhou-Hua

Zhou-Hua is the language of the mountain-dwelling Zhou people. It is a regional language with significantly less native speakers than Oyashiman or Li-Wen, but it has value as a liturgical language. As the Zhou people are the torchbearers of the Hua-Jiao faith, many religious scriptures are written in Zhou-Hua, and scholars from all over the Eastern Peninsula learn this tongue so they can better understand the Eightfold path of Hualian.

Zhou-Hua is the equivalent of Tibetan.

    Religion

    PCbo4cgz6c3yTzuLF5qulpjK3M5qlaLiXMyel6lDfwBpO0K-IVnQ7ikrTitmD3yXhcQjOh77Dy2hFtO3a8hAoS9Zm-gnxdzYaLCi_S34qMkTa3_cdiqq_M90L1bB5GtBW_lBadDH

Scripture depicting Hualian - the Prophet

Religion in the Eastern Peninsula is incredibly non-homogenous, and very syncretic. Each region has its own folklore and gods, down almost to as micro a level as individual villages, which will often have a local patron spirit.

With that said, Hua-jiao is the most widespread religion amongst eastern peoples, with a healthy amount of followers in all of the Eastern nations, with its strongest foothole in Cunyuan, Cathant and Zhourennia. Hua-jiao was introduced to the Easterners by missionaries of the Hou-zi prophet, Hualian, who achieved enlightenment by discovering the the Four Divine Truths and the Eightfold Path to living a good life. The Eightfold path that Hualian dictated upon his disciples serves as the doctrine by which many Easterners live today, and Hualian himself is considered a Godly prophet who will someday lift their souls from the suffering of this earthly world.

Most Easterners believe in some form of reincarnation cycle, and the concept of Karma- the idea that one's actions are all part of a cosmic balance, and that a person's goodness or evilness will affect not only their fate later in this life, but what they will be reborn into in the next.

In Oyashima, the people worship the Kami, an infinite amount of spirits that dwell in trees, rocks, rivers and other things. They have three main gods, Amaterasu the Goddess of the Sun and Izanagi the God of Creation with Izanami the Goddess of Yomi. The Oyashimans too have a set of eight virtues they follow, known colloquially as the Code of Life, a code by which their high class warriors can live honourably.
