History: Eluana's story begins before her birth. Way before her birth. It actually started with her mother. A young scholar of Haelun'or, her mother was well loved. A beautiful elven woman with long silver hair named Jalia Sweetgrass. She mad her father proud when she chose a strong young warrior by the name of Elios. He spent many seasons courting her before she finally accepted his proposal. Jalia wed him by the second spring and they moved into their own home.
As years passed by, Jalia wandered further away from her home, into the forests. She felt at peace as she walked. It wasn't long before she stumbled across the body of a young hunter. He was badly injured and barely conscious. She did not even think of the reprocussions of her actions as she got him to her home. Elios was not home at the time and Jalia managed to the young man onto her bed. She spent her time healing and treating his wounds, helping him gain his strength. When Elios returned home, he found Jalia with the young man. Demanding that the boy be thrown back out into the wild, he found himself on the ground.
Jalia would not let Elios harm the man. "He is injured." she said. "He will leave when he is well." With that Elios left the house, swearing he would not be near such a "disgusting" creature. For weeks Jalia nursed the man back to health, despite the dark words spread by her husband. She had learned much about the man and the world beyond the woods. Within the few weeks she had been in Reginald's company, she found herself feeling different. She had fallen for the young hunter. When he was finally well enough to leave, her family was more than willing to throw him out, much to Jalia's protest.
As Reginald wandered back into the forest, he found himself being followed. Ready to slay the creature that followed, he was surprised when he found Jalia had followed him. She begged for him to take her with him. With much protest, he finally agreed and the two fled the land. Reginald was hesitant to admit he had fallen for the elven woman, but it was soon hard for him to deny it. When the two reached his homeland, Arethor, Reginald proclaimed his love and the two were married in secret.
Jalia felt no regret at throwing away her elven life to be with the man she loved. It was not long before the couple found themselves with child. Cast out by not only the elven society, but also human, the two moved into the forest. Reginald built them a small home in the forest and there they had their daughter, Eluana Sweetgrass. They had wished to keep the name only to remind her of her heritage. The time flew by for the small family in bliss. Jalia adored her daughter and Reginald protected them both.
Happy with her family and quiet life, Jalia began teaching Eluana how to walk and talk. Being a scholar always left her anxious to go and learn more. When Eluana turned four, Jalia convince Reginald to allow her to go learn at a local town. With his blessing and a sad goodbye, Jalia took off to learn what she could. She was gone for months, but she knew something had happened to her family the moment she stepped into the woods.
She neared the cottage and found her husband's body laying against the door frame. His right arm broken and bite marks covered his face and neck. Distraught, Jalia ran to see if maybe he was still alive. She found not breath and pain struck her heart. It was in that moment she turned to the house. Would she find her daughter in even worse condition? Slowly she entered, finding blood splattering the walls of her home.
Unable to fine anything of her daughter, Jalia feared the worst. Taking Reginald's sword, she headed into the mountains, returning to her elven home. With no one left for her in the outside, she became reclusive and forced herself into her studies. Never once did she look farther for her family, instead she stayed in deep mourning in the libraries, letting knowledge seep into her and heal her wounds.
If Jalia had continued to look, she may have found her daughter. Eluana had survived the attack, barely. She had escaped into the woods, fleeing for her life. She stumbled onto a deserted road just as the howl of a wolf signaled the monsters that still chased her. As she ran again, something knocked her over and she hit the ground hard. Hot breath sat at the nape of her neck, causing her to shiver before everything went dark.
She woke up in a strange house with a man. He smiled as he told her he had saved her. Pulling into a hug, he told her his name was Victor Alexander II, a lord. He comforted her and helped her recover from her ordeal. Believing she was orphaned, Eluana looked up to Victor as a father and a parent. For nights she would wake up screaming, seeing the death of her father. Victor would comfort her as often as she needed.
AS she grew older, she began noticing things were changing. He had stopped teaching her and given her chores. At first she did not mind. She would clean the house, feed his animals, tend to his farm. It usually left her exhausted in the end, but she had at least one friend. A woman named Idani had become her closest friend, a high elf slave. Idani would tell her stories of the elven lands before bed, and help with chores during the day.
When Eluana turned ten, she started noticing the lord's odd behavior around Idani. On some nights she would hear moans from his room and not long after cries of pain. Idani would exit the room and cover her shame and tears with a fake smile to Eluana. "I pray this never happens to you." she would tell her before taking her to bed. The older Eluana got, the harder it was to ignore what was truly wrong with her life.
Victor advanced on her more and more, struck her when she would not obey. One night she found Idani, her sister, her friend, lying dead in the kitchen. Deep purple marks marred her neck. Eluana cried for her only friend before turning on her master. She struck at him with a knife but quickly found herself unmatched. Enraged he grabbed her and cut her deep on the throat. Though she was lucky to have survived the encounter, she was scarred.
No longer allowed a room, she was chained in the dungeons at night and forced to work during the day. Her life became truly unbearable. It was on a stormy night, that she finally was able to free herself and run. She could hear the swearing of her lord as she fled into the forest. She ran until her legs could carry her no more, hoping to be free fully from her nightmare. With scars marring her flesh, she continued on.
