What is your Minecraft Account Name? CaptainSheepy

Do you have a Discord account?  Sure do: CaptainSheepy#7719

How long have you played on LotC? Since May 2013, so 5 years now.

How many hours per day/week are you available? Now that my exams are close to finishing up I’m available for a good few hours a day (at LEAST 2-3) and I should be free for a good portion of most weekends.

What lore do you hold the most experience with?

The lore I hold most experience with would definitely be magic lore. Though, in saying that, I've read a vast number of lore pieces unrelated to magic and I'm equally fond of them. I'm definitely someone who really likes to understand lore holistically and how each piece relates to another and ultimately forms our RP universe. This is something I would personally like to work on should I be accepted - ensuring that no lore is contradictory to another and everything fits together nicely. In saying this, I do still believe that we can go too far into explaining certain things, and a certain measure of fantasy/mysticism should remain in this ever expanding fictional world we're creating.

    Bit of a tangent...anyway!

As I said, I'm mostly familiar with magic lore, specifically voidal (though I'm also familiar with a number of light and dark magics). I'm a sucker for world-lore (and I've read a load of it), as I believe it really sets the foundation for the world we're RP'ing with while also setting the boundaries of what is possible (not to say these boundaries cannot be broken / expanded upon by MORE LORE). It's my personal belief that lore exists to supplement and enhance the story our characters would be experiencing regardless. There's so much great content that I've read and I'd love to have players, both new and old, experience it. I believe cooperation with the ET is essential in this regard, and writing up storylines with them (both big and small stories) to further immerse players in the world truly augments one's roleplaying experience.

Essentially, I believe I know enough. We're all here for a good time, and as I've been here for five years now, I want to focus on fostering those fine experiences for other players. And of course that begins with having coherent, cohesive, creative lore.

Do you have a solid grasp on the existing lore of our server? Would you be comfortable moderating it in-game?

Yes, I believe I do have a good grasp on quite a decent range of LotC's lore -- in fact reading lore has been an enjoyable pastime for me these last few years. If I find myself lacking in any areas, I'm more than happy to study up on those particular areas. As for moderating, I'm more than comfortable and happy to do this. I'd like to think I'm a very fair, approachable, laid-back person. Ultimately I just want to see everyone have a good time and have people contribute legitimately to both their own story and other people's stories / experiences.

What is your Minecraft Account Name?: CaptainSheepy

How long have you played on LotC?: 5 years as of next week

How many hours per day/week are you available?: I’m available for a good few hours a day (at least 2-3) and I should be free for a good portion of most weekends.

Have you read and do you thoroughly understand Magic Lore?: I have, and I do!

What Magic Lore do you hold the most experience with?: I’m familiar with the majority of the magic under the ‘arcane’ branch, Arcanism/Celestialism most notably. Though I’m also very familiar with the fundamentals of magic and mages as a whole, which I believe is often overlooked (soul, mana, etc.). In addition to this I’ve also had experience with Clericalism and Shade magic.

Write about a magic-related topic that you find interesting (e.g. How mental barriers work):

A topic which I found interesting from the first time I encountered magic in LotC’s universe, and continues to interest me today, are the canon energies. Mana in its various forms, lifeforce, genus, and souls - all of these exist within each descendant and each can be accessed and further utilised to an extent where the life and world of that individual is enhanced. I find all these possibilities available to each player incredibly exciting and it adds a depth to each person which I love.

I specifically enjoy how they interact with each other. A soul-bearing individual produces passive mana, which is then capable of passively becoming aura or it can be manipulated by said soul-bearer to become active mana. Alternatively, mana can be found in strange places and manipulated in other forms such as in Genus or Amber. A multitude of potential power sources for mages which shape what each sorcerer strives for and how they interact with the world.

The vast array of options means that an individual character’s life could be altered in so many ways just by one of these things potentially being affected or manipulated (either willingly or not) - presenting each player with various paths they can go down. However, as magic has grown so rapidly on LotC some contradictions have arisen among these fundamental aspects and that’s partially why I’m applying - to try and further clarify/simplify these foundations so that everything is a little more coherent to both new and old players.

Give a Summary of any Staff/Lead positions you’ve held on any Minecraft Server in the past:

Do you have a Discord account? (You may post it here, or choose to keep it private until you are asked for it. Note; Discord is required to communicate with the team):

Sure do, though I think I’ve added the relevant people already.

  3. A dissatisfied groan emanated from a lone figure stood upon the walls of the Celestial Order keep, the Oracle making no effort to try and suppress his disapproval to ears nearby - not that there were any. Emerald eyes narrowed in thought as they traced the silent streets of Okarn'thilln below him.

"They will never learn, will they?"

He begins to shake his head, turning away.

"Why insist on returning to these 'reforms' written by leaders of old? Do they hope that returning to these grossly outdated laws will assist them in rejuvenating the maerh'sae hiylunehya? The maehr'sae hiylun'ehya is dead. As much as they refuse to believe it, it is, and it has been for some time."

"The world is changed. We as a people are changed. The revival of these laws is nothing more than a desperate attempt to try and bring about a time where the mali'aheral were actually of any relevance to the realm - as vile as that relevance was. They do not accomodate for the changes we have experienced over the centuries, their intended audience all likely laid to rest within the earth. Returning to this legislation does not provide some grand solution. Instead it just continues the pathetic cycle of these naïve pretenders yearning to return to romanticised glory days."

"If they truly desire for Haelun'or to have any semblance of success, they would rid themselves of these bygone laws and traditions and adapt to the new reality. The Silver City has lost its shine, it is plain to see. No matter how they try and polish it with their archaic rag of reluctance, it will not sparkle again unless they open to change."

    I. The Laws of Haelun’or

    Section One:

    The Obvious Laws

    1. The blessed residents of Haelun'or will not tolerate violent tendencies.

This extends into any and all acts of physical aggression upon another, mali’aheral or not, who are allowed within the state. Violence is the tool of the primitive, and all disputes can and should be solved by means of civil discussion. Such violence will only be permitted when absolutely necessary - for example when one finds themselves in immediate danger and self-defence is required.

    2. The blessed residents of Haelun’or will not tolerate greed.

Theft of any conceivable nature is frowned upon greatly within our venerated society. There are no exceptions to this rule. As a society we are called to craft, develop and earn our own belongings. To steal is to disrespect the work of one’s bloodline and to bring shame to your own.

    3. The blessed residents of Haelun’or will not tolerate the presence of visitors who bear the state ill-will.

Those individuals who are deemed to be disrespectful, ignorant, and or dangerous shall not be allowed through our gates. To be permitted entry into the silver city as a foreign visitor is a great honor. Those who display a distinct disregard for our culture and values will promptly be escorted out of the city and their chance at future visits severely decreased.

    4. The blessed residents of Haelun’or will not tolerate the purposeful tarnishment of purity.

Purity as a concept has been interpreted differently by many of our kin over the centuries. We acknowledge this fact and accept there may be some areas of discrepancy. However should your actions consistently violate the commonly held beliefs of the council, you will be requested to return to the path of purity or take your leave from the state.

Our ancestors strove for purity and we honor our bloodlines by preserving it in mind, heart and blood.

    5. The blessed residents of Haelun’or will not tolerate destruction of written thought.

Knowledge, being a key aspect of the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya, is to be respected and preserved always. We are privileged to live in a society where our citizenry collectively strive for progress and the betterment of Haelun’or and the realm as a whole. To destroy any tome of value is to lose a piece of knowledge - a conduit of wisdom. In recognition of this, such a crime is treated with equal distaste to that of violence or theft.

    6. The blessed residents of Haelun’or will not tolerate the presence of the uninvited within the Eternal Library.

The knowledge held within the Eternal Library is the collective work of numerous minds from both within and outside the city over countless years. As such, these valuable tomes are not for the perusal of an individual who does not share in our highest regard for knowledge. For a foreigner to enter is a great honor and is only possible with the explicit permission of a member of elheial’thilln.

    7. Members of the Silver Council (elheial’thilln) are the foremost figures of authority in matters pertaining to the laws of the mali’aheral civilisation as they oversee all matters of state.

The Silver Council follow and enforce the laws of the state with great fervour, ensuring both the safety and preservation of Haelun’or and its culture. It is in their wisdom we must trust for they place the welfare of Haelun’or and her people before all else.

    8. The blessed citizenry of Haelun’or have the right to uphold the ways of the mali’aheral people, and guard our culture from those whom would disregard it.

The citizens of Haelun’or have the right to defend the state and what it stands for under the sole condition that the punishment they inflict does not conflict with any other current law, or the traditions of mali’aheral culture.

    9. The blessed citizenry of Haelun’or will not tolerate public slanderous speech by untempered tongues toward invited guests, or allies, of the Sohaerate.

The citizens of Haelun’or will remain courteous and hospitable to all invited guests to the Sohaerate and will denounce any who publicly slander her allied nations or factions.

    Section Two:

    The Dichotomy of Lewdness

    1. The blessed citizenry of Haelun’or shall not participate in physical fraternization outside of marriage.

This crime disrespects the very nature of the matrimonial union. Unmarried Citizens who physically fraternize disregard the purpose of intercourse, and cause unruly distraction, emotional disruption, and in the worst case scenario - consequences of bastardization, a terrible crime, considering it taints the reputation of an otherwise innocent mali’aheral child.

    2. The blessed citizenry of Haelun’or shall not participate in physical fraternization with a minor (a minor being any mali less than 50 years of age).

Children are indeed the most precious safeguard of our kin. Subjecting an emotionally immature mind to such matters is unacceptable. Let it be known that mali under the age of 50 are unable to give consent, as their uninformed opinions towards this subject are too juvenile to be capable of discernment.

    3. The blessed citizenry of Haelun’or shall not participate in public fraternization of an intimate nature.

An incivility which disrespect both the citizenry and city’s dignity. Even in the event that two married individuals are not in violation of any of the laws stated herein, any and all intended fraternization must be conducted in the privacy of their home.

    4. The blessed citizenry of Haelun’or shall not participate in fraternization of any intimate sort with impures, or other races. Only applies to First Class Citizens.

Preservation of life itself resides in the idea of purity. To sully one’s untainted mali’aheral blood is to dishonor all those who came before you.

    5. The blessed citizenry of Haelun’or shall not participate in non-consensual physical fraternization.

Larihei is blind to you, desecrators of this law. It is beyond reproach. You will meet a swift judgement.

    6. The blessed citizenry of Haelun’or shall not endorse intimate fraternization of a homosexual nature.

Those whose intimate desires lead them to fraternization with another individual of the same gender are forbidden to speaking of, or making any display, of said relationship - lest you encourage others to also partake in such unproductive activities.

    7. The blessed citizenry of Haelun’or shall not participate in incestuous intimate fraternization of any kind.

No self-respecting citizen will need explanation as to why this type of behavior is both obscene and illegal.

    II. The Return to Purity

Those mali’aheral who have violated any of the laws stated above may find solace in the fact that elheial’thilln practices mercy, and as such, offers said transgressors of the law a method of returning to purity once more. The mali’ata of pure birth who seek redemption and successfully fulfill the tasks outlined in the procedure below are granted a clean slate and may return to their place in our society as respected citizens.

    Returning

As the mali’ata has wronged the venerated race, they must seek redemption in the eyes of all who would call themselves mali’thill. To do so, they must gain the forgiveness of the esteemed few who act as caretakers to Haelun’or - the Silver Council.

The “purifying” shall be conducted in stages:

    1. The Drawing of the Curtain

The mali’ata must be sincere in their desire to become a part of our society once more, and be willing to perform all the tasks asked of them. They must be willing to acknowledge the wrongness of the crimes they have committed against their kin and the Sohaerate as a whole.

Should they not conform to this ideal, they shall not be allowed to return.

    2. Righteous Revulsion

Should the mali’ata be sincere, and willing, they will be allowed to enter the city. Here, they must seek out each member of the Silver Council to notify them individually of the crimes they have committed towards mali’aheral. They will then, after informing each councillor of their crimes, ask for forgiveness from each. The informed may ask the mali’ata of anything, and the mali’ata will do as they ask with great vigour and a calm disposition in a manner befitting any true mali’aheral.

As a councillor, standards of good judgement are expected and a request which calls to question the logic of itself will reflect negatively upon themselves if inadequately explained. Should a member of elheial’thilln request a task that clashes with the laws of the city, said councillor shall be punished according to the crimes they requested to be committed.

The mali’ata may not advance to the next stage unless everyone, enlightened to the crimes of the mali’ata, gives their forgiveness.

    3. Learning the Way

All mali’ata must understand and revere the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya, as it is the very phrase that defines our people, our culture, and our civilisation. Those that lack an understanding, or adequate interpretation, of the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya will find themselves shortly more unwelcome than they had been previously.

The mali’ata shall be assigned a teacher from the pure citizenry, the duty of whom it will be to teach the mali’ata the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya. During this stage, the teacher may assign to the mali’ata multiple tasks which they must complete in order to advance to the next stage.

At the end of this process, they will be tested by members of the Silver Council of their knowledge regarding the blessed phrase.

    4. Acceptance

The mali’ata, after gaining forgiveness, and understanding the apex of our culture, will be called to an assembly of all volunteering citizens. Here it will be decided by the majority whether the mali’ata may become a part of the exalted society and resume their title of mali’aheral. Should the citizenry decide that the actions of the mali’ata are satisfactory, they shall again be considered a First Class Citizen. The mali’ata will regain their title of mali’aheral and they may see the silver city as their home once more.

With the conclusion of this final step, a celebration should be held - as they have obtained citizenship.

    III. Trialling

In the event that a citizen of Haelun’or is accused of violating any of the above laws and is summoned to stand trial, a set of judges must be elected to operate as a panel of decision makers. These judges, once elected, shall deliberate upon the accused’s guilt. Once a decision is made, punishment as appropriate will be delivered at their discretion. If the judges so desire more evidence, they may call for a testimonial, or a character witness. An odd number of unbiased judges shall be elected from either the citizenry or the Silver Council, so that their vote will decide the guilt or innocence of an accused should there be disagreement.

Should a judge be found guilty of any of the above crimes, or any other type of unseemly behaviour, he or she shall be removed from the panel.

In the event that the accused does not appear when summoned to their trial, their absence shall be perceived as a confirmation of their guilt and their respective sentence shall be executed upon their probable return to the Silver Sohaerate.

    IV. Punishment

    Possible Punishments for Law-Breakers

    Fines / Public Indication (acal)

A less severe, but no less decisive punishment. For behaving as a poor example of good mali’aheral, those found guilty shall be fined an amount decided upon by the panel of judges.

In addition, they shall be forced to wear a large golden amulet, symbolizing their insult to the entire mali’aheral culture, for a prescribed amount of time.

    Branding (ata)

Those discovered to have committed an ata type crime, shall be marked with the word. Never is the taint of impurity removed; once a Mali’aheral has fraternized with an outsider, they are forever marred.

Thus, it is fitting, that they shall be marked with their treason, and forever barred from pure repute. For those guilty of crimes regarding impure fraternization, a visible mark upon the back of his or her hand shall be permanently branded, just as their hearts be permanently branded with betrayal of their entire race.

These branded shall be unfit for marriage. No legal union or wedding between an ata-type criminal will be officially acknowledged by the city.

    Banishment / Death Sentence (ullral)

Monsters. This type of crime is reserved only for the most severe, unrepentant offenders. This type of sentencing requires not only complete agreement of the judges, but a referendum wherein every citizen of Haelun’or casts a vote, and at least 70% of these votes come back affirmative, in favor of the sentence.

If sentenced as an ullral, all hope is lost to you. You shall never again be allowed into the city if banished, and no citizen is allowed to acknowledge you, under pain of his or her own impure allegation. If one were to come back after such death they would be labelled as a someone who has abused dark malevolent magics to be revived.

    Talonnii Act of 1645
Our philosophy stems both from our minds, and our blood.

    - The Bloodline Archive

    gx1WAN7.png

    Article One

Our bloodlines are sacred, for well over a century families both notable and nought have had their members and histories etched into the Bloodline Archive. Though for too long we have been blinded by egalitarianism in thinking all mali’aheral are superior when so few have acted to further the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya. Thus, to record all the purity of each bloodline and afford special privileges to those who can prove their ancestor’s adherence to the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya, the Talonnii system is to be established.

A: The Definition of a Talonnii:

    I.        A Talonnii is an elder family of Haelun’or, having inhabited in the silver walls for at least fifty years and/or had contributed significantly to the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya via leadership or service.

II.        A Talonnii must have proof of a completely unsullied line - the further back in history the better.

III.      A Talonnii must have at least two-three members who live and participate within Haelun’or. Exceptions may be granted by the Maheral for special cases.

IV.      A Talonnii must have a matriarch or patriarch, who shall serve as a laurir. This laurir is hereditary via absolute primogeniture and initially the eldest mali’thill member of the family shall take on the role.

    V.        A Talonnii must be created by edict of the Maheral, which must be recorded in the archives by the Okarir’maehr.

B: The Privileges of a Talonnii:

    I.        A Talonnii is given special consideration in housing, for their members are more numerous and have remained in the city longer.

II.      A Talonnii matriarch or patriarch is allowed a vote for Maheral (see Article Two).

III.     A Talonnii member is allowed to vote for laws and reforms passed by The Silver Council of Haelun’or.

C: The Destruction of a Talonnii:

    I.       A Talonnii can be destroyed for the following reasons:

                        A. There are no members remaining of the family in Haelun’or.
                      B. A trial has been conducted proving the impurity of the bloodline.

II.      If any of the aforementioned reasons take place, the Maheral may destroy the Talonnii by edict, however it may be regranted by appeal.

    Article Two

The system of Maheral appointment first proposed by the Second of the Twin Moles has resulted in unsatisfactory succession crises and the appointment of impures. Prior to that, the system created in the days of Lin’everal diminished the importance of the position to merely ‘ex-Sohaer’. With malaurir Dio Astóre unable to lead us, we must devise a new system of Maheral succession. Because of the establishment of a Talonnii system, the decision shall be placed in the capable hands of the bloodlines and previous Maheralan.

A: The Establishment of the Electors:

    I.       The council of electors (Heial’laurir) shall consist of the following members:

                           A. The lauriran of the Talonniian.
                           B. All previous Maheralan (exceptions are listed in clause II)
                           C. In exceptional circumstances, the elheial’thilln shall be called to cast a vote (see section B, clause IX).

II.      Any former Maheral who has been removed via acceptance vote or otherwise declared impure is barred from becoming an elector.

III.     Votes for acceptance of a Maheral from this day forth shall not be permitted.

B: The Process of Nomination and Election:

    I.         Should a Maheral resign or perish, the Heial’laurir shall convene within the city. At this assembly, they shall first nominate candidates (see clause II to IV) and second, vote on them (see clause V to X).

II.        The only requirements for a Maheral candidate are the following:

    A. The candidate does not have a history of being impure, unless they have atoned for their transgressions by taking the path of purity.

    B. The candidate was not a previous Maheral who was deposed or removed by acceptance vote, or otherwise impure.

    C. The candidate has not acted against the interests of the state or committed any crimes against her.

III.       A Maheral candidate is nominated by any elector or the previous Maheral.

IV.        No Maheral candidate can nominate themselves.

    V.          Once the candidate(s) have been chosen, the party of electors shall convene and cast their votes. Their votes are not anonymous and they are welcomed to state their reason for their choice.

VI.        Electors can vote to accept the Maheral, reject them or abstain.

VII.       An elector is only allowed one vote, being both a laurir and former Maheral is no grounds to have two votes.

VIII.     The candidate who wins a simple majority shall become the new Maheral.

IX.        If there is a tie, the elheial’thilln will be called to cast a vote.

    X.          If no candidate reaches a sixty percent majority, the candidate with the least votes is eliminated and voting shall commence again.

XI.       If the majority of votes (fifty percent or more) are for an abstain, all candidates are eliminated and cannot be renominated. In this case new candidates are chosen.

    Amendment I.

    I. In the event that the Sohaer does not resign, and they are in-fact removed from office by the means outlined in Eltiran’thilln, they are not permitted to name a nominee to succeed them. Consequently, they lose their ability to cast two votes for their potential successor.

II. In the event that the Sohaer is killed or is otherwise unable to present Elheial’thilln with a nominee for succession, the Silver Council will simply put forth their own nominations and voting for the successor will proceed in accordance to “Ikur’onn Sohaer System - For Peaceful Transition of Power”.

    Welcome back, young apprentice!

Glad to see you return. I always enjoyed my RP encounters with you. Hope to see that fiery red-headed mage some time soon.

    With love,

    Your Favourite Archmage (Ceruberr) <3

  8. [Arcane][ST] Ceruberr Asul'Ailer

    MC Name: CaptainSheepy

    Character's Name: Ceruberr Asul'Ailer

    Character's Age: 259

    Character's Race: Mali'aheral

What magic(s) will you be learning?: Celestialism

Link a MA of a magic your character already uses that is in the same archetype as the magic you are self teaching:

How did you learn this magic(s)?: (Weirdly worded question, I haven't actually learnt it yet...)
Ceruberr has been studying and practicing Arcanism since the descendants’ time in Anthos. Having self-taught both branches within the arcane art (with assistance from the discoverer of the magic, Iatrilemar Elervathar) Ceruberr has, through great skill and diligence, attained a profound understanding of the magic. It is now that his attention has returned to furthering his knowledge of the magic that he is ready to delve into true mastery of the subtype. Ceruberr is also a master of Transfiguration which will assist him in his process of understanding.

MC name of OOC overseer (Note: they must either have a TA in this magic on any character or be a member of the MT): BrandNewKitten

Offer an explanation of the magic(s) you are learning:

Celestialism is the true mastery of Arcanism, only possible to begin once one has reached the pinnacle of their capability in this field of the arcane. The arcanist essentially crosses a threshold of the arcane, with their intrinsic aura transcending to that of a greater aura – which in turn grants the arcanist access to newly discoverable possibilities.

The most prominent possibility being greater melding. Having gained greater sensitivity to the void and to those who dwell or delve in it, the arcanist has the ability to be more attuned to the realm and those whom they have melded with. As a result, tracking of melded auras becomes possible, as does coupling, where one may meld their own aura with another in order to achieve arcane feats with less expenditure of mana. When combined with the art of Transfiguration, one is also capable of forming Arcanist Stones, giving the celestial arcanist the ability to grant sanctuary to celestial familiars in our realm from the void by binding them to the aforementioned stones.

Provide evidence you've a proper means of learning this magic(s): BrandNewKitten has stated that Ceruberr, given his experience with Arcanism, Transfiguration and general knowledge of the arcane, is capable of self-teaching this magic. I'll have BNK comment on this app to confirm this.

Do you have a magic(s) you are dropping due to this app? If so, link it: No

Do you agree to keep the MT updated on the status of your magic app by using the Magic List Errors topic?: Absolutely

Have you applied for this magic on this character before, and had it denied? If so, link the app: No

I'd imagine it'd depend on what you task the mana to do, though the creation of aura is vague in regards to why it has a specific color, and i feel it has something to do with mana. I'll edit the description.

I'm still not convinced you can task mana to change or mask your own aura and the power it issues. Lore-wise it doesn't make much sense. And the explanation of shrouding one's mana signature with more mana to mask it also seems a bit backwards as that would just exude more aura, bolstering your signature if anything. Again, with our current lore the only magic which allows the use of Aura to a greater degree are Celestial Arcanists. You'd be fine to have your character speculate IC'ly that mana may be the determining factor for Aura colour but that contradicts the accepted lore, specifically from States of Mana:

If aura forms in vast quantities, the colour it takes is entirely dependent on the Mage producing it, which is dependent on the active mana and thus dependent on the passive mana and finally the soul. This means that the aura colour of an individual is a good representation of their base character.

The determination of aura colour has its roots in the individual's soul and the colours typically represent their base character as quoted above. The slight alteration of aura in regards to shape and colour by variations of hue/gradients only is already possible by your "Expanding Auras" post. But I think for anything more than that, that'd fall under Celestialism.

I understand where you're coming from too, and I don't mean to say that auras are the only defining factor of a mage or person - that would obviously be a stretch. Rather, they've always been a more mystical aspect of magic, something a wee bit mysterious, originating from the soul which makes magic that bit more magical instead of sciencey.

As for the quotes, I still stand by that mana (in any form, be it passive or active) =/= aura and therefore cannot be directly altered in the way you're suggesting via the Spell Forge. Passive mana passively becomes aura when in excess and Active mana becomes aura when it is used to perform an action (e.g spell). From my understanding the two explanations from the core lore post means that they aren't the same thing as aura, hence it shouldn't be able to be controlled in the manner suggested. The only people who really have the ability to utilise their aura to a greater degree than purely aesthetics are Celestial Arcanists with their Greater Auras and the abilities which come with that as outlined in the Celestialism lore post/addition.

    Spell: Aura Change

The user of this spell is able to change their aura color by stimulating mana and creating an afterburn to change its color and regulate the power level and sensation it issues. In doing so, it can be used as a means to mask one’s mana signature as well by shrouding mana over it, perhaps being useful in some way other than aesthetics.

The explanation is generally a bit confusing too. The highlighted section above just describes the process of producing aura? Stimulating, or using, mana to create an afterburn (which is aura) which then suddenly has the ability to change its own colour and regulate the power it issues? Bit discombobulated as to how that would work and how shrouding one's mana with more mana can mask their signature? Wouldn't that create more aura if anything as you're expending mana to 'shroud'?

  11. After a read through I thought I'd have a wee poke at this ol' artefact submission. Auras have always been something truly unique to each descendant - being both "natural" yet mystical and entwined closely with each individual's distinctive soul. As said in Hugo's lore post on The States of Mana:

"Aura colour does not change under typical circumstances, however, and is a constant throughout one's life unless great change happens to them or their soul (such as becoming a Shade or binding one's soul to a soul tree)."

MArt's do only allow (or should only allow..) slight bending of magic lore and seeing as the above is pretty core lore to practitioners of all branches of magic I feel like this is a bit much. Allowing:

    a) changing the colour of one's aura
(something generally determined by one's nature)
    b) the power / sensation it issues
(personally I think this is a natural trade-off with auras. If you're an accomplished magic user with a big mana pool, you can't hide it. It's not something you can control, it's the price one pays)

    c) the ability to "mask" one's aura

is a bit more than a slight change for something that's pretty fundamental to each person. I'd argue that the core principles of mana and aura shouldn't be something up for slight bending of lore (at least not in this manner) as they are pretty much the foundation for everything magic related. If we start messing with this then it kicks off a shaky precedent with red-lines/lore becoming blurred which just leads to confusion. It seems to be a kind of a red-line of Hugo's lore post, where the only circumstance where it may change is if a person experiences a life-changing event or experiences something which has an affect on their soul (e.g become a Shade or Celestial Arcanist). Celestial Arcanists currently have the ability to take upon another character's aura colour during melding so this also sort of falls under that area.

I'm aware this 'Spell Forge' "may only work around voidal energies and mana", and seeing as aura is neither Passive or Active mana, rather the afterburn of both, I don't think it could accomplish this.

  12. Ceruberr stretches upright in his seat as Crumena and Sul’onn approach the council with a following of constructs. His emerald eyes take particular interest in the figure adorned in fine robes, devoting a good few moments to examining the namesake of his former arcane master. As Crumena begins to speak, Ceruberr listens impassively - idly drumming his slender fingers upon the arm of his seat. The moment the Izalith reveals his proposal, Ceruberr ceases his drumming, raising a single, silvery brow. His gaze diverts briefly to Icarus, though as the grey-eyed elf continues his speech, the tapping resumes.

Following Crumena’s conclusion, Ceruberr’s fingers pause striking once more and he leans forward to speak.

“Before you depart, Izalith,” he begins, hoping to gain the aheral’s attention as he turns to leave, “I’d like to give my response to your proposal. A proposal which, I might add, contains a number of cultural implications.

Knowing what we know… the position of Okarir’maehr has always been an esteemed seat upon elheial’thilln, and the duties of the mali’aheral who bears this title extend far beyond that of merely ‘writing and protecting tomes’. As you have outlined on these documents yourself, the Okarir’maehr is tasked with tending to the Eternal Library, providing lessons on a variety of topics, overseeing, distributing and maintaining the laboratories, recording our history…” He pauses for a moment before continuing, “It is a demanding position, and I am unsure why you are led to believe that the individual who fills this role has minimal impact upon elcihi. They facilitate the very pursuit and documentation of study for many.

Icarus stated during the last meeting of elheial’thilln how he intends to campaign to foster the widespread pursuit of scholarship within Haelun’or once more. Including forming a society of scholars with the long-term goal of founding a college. Should the campaign be successful, it will most certainly be felt within elcihi and have a beneficial impact upon all. Icarus has also taken on a few assistants to assist him with tending to the Eternal Library, I believe - tilruiran’maehr.

As for the proposals made for the position of Maheral, there seems to be some confusion regarding the intended purpose of the position. The Maheral is but a spiritual and cultural guide for our people. A role model, if you will - working actively to ensure we do not stray from the path of purity or allow the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya to fade from the forefront of our minds. The Maheral’s duty is to guide us - see that we amend our mistakes or our slothfulness. Should tradition come into question or should conflict arise surrounding it, the Maheral will mediate so that a resolution is found. In saying this, eluthir remains the embodiment of government and the Maheral’s words are not subject to infallibility - though they are of course respected nonetheless.

Ceruberr waves a hand to Iaria. “Ms Elervathar. Although young in age, she worked tirelessly to gain a firm understanding of the history, tradition and culture of elmali’aheral. She exemplified the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya during her service as Okarir’maehr, bringing new life to the Eternal Library which subsequently granted numerous citizens access to knowledge previously unavailable. And she continues to exemplify our guiding principle as it now falls to Iaria to see that all citizens follow in her stead - fierce in their quest for knowledge and the preservation of the health of all.

Where the Maheral works to preserve purity and tradition, the Okarir’maehr offers the means for our people to do such, at least partially. For seeking knowledge and wisdom is only part of our guiding principle. I agree the duties of these two positions overlap somewhat, but to combine them into one would simply be too much for an individual to cope with - even for our current Maheral or Okarir’maehr.

On the note of the Eternal Library, our tomes do not belong to any one individual. They are cared for by our diligent Okarir’maehr for use by all citizens. Our history, tradition and culture is not restricted to words within the bindings of pages - they are in our everyday deeds, how we choose to act. The second half of our guiding principle calls for action, for what use is knowledge if it is not put to good use? The Maheral does not require authority over our tomes, though it is expected that they should work closely with the Okarir’maehr to ensure the pursuit of the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya remains a viable goal.

After concluding his summary of the first document, he grasps the other containing the proposal for the Okarir’lliran.

“As for your proposal for the position of Okarir’lliran, I think you will find all of the duties you have outlined are already tasked to the Okarir’mali and the Uthir.”

He sets the papers aside, fixing his attention upon the Izalith.

“Those are my thoughts. The effort you have placed into this proposal is admirable, and your reasoning is sound, though Haelun’or fares far better than you seem to think.” He gestures to those seated around the table. “The Silver Council is filled with more than competent councillors, our city grows by the day and a great number of mali’aheral continue to return here to their true home. We are prosperous.”

With his conclusion, Ceruberr rests back into his seat with a respectful nod.
