In-Character Information Character’s name: Nim Annika Starglance Character’s gender: Female Character’s race: Wood Elf Character’s age: 43 Biography: Nim Annika Starglance grew up in a small village by a forest until she was fifteen. When she was a young child, it was common knowledge that there were always more travellers than inhabitants in the village, for it was situated almost on top of a much traversed road. However, in later years, fewer people came, and soon the village fell into obscurity. Whenever Nim thinks back to her home, she vaguely remembers the area becoming more and more dangerous. She supposes that it had been abandoned as it lay too far west, far from the capital of the Elves, Leyulin. Her memories of the place are happy, warm and full of family and friends. However, she had always been fascinated by the tales that the travellers would tell in the local inn. She remembers many a pleasant evening when she would run to the inn as the sky turned peach in the light of the setting sun, on her way to a low-roofed rustic building positioned on the edge of the forest and village, as if it was a bridge between the two. She remembers the sweet-smelling candles standing in the windows, beckoning passing people inside into a modest, fire-lit room with heavy dark oak tables and matching benches, more often than not crowded with familiar and not-so-familiar faces. Nim would always look up, grinning as many a person hailed her. She was no stranger here. She remembers being pulled up onto a bench, being jokingly offered a mead or beer, and all the while she'd still grin, not quite understanding but knowing that a story was coming. And come they did, in waves and floods; stories about dragons on mountaintops and dancing moonlight on a calm ocean as sails unfurled and furled and oars dipped. The stories about the sea were her favourites. Once, a Dark Elf told her such a story, about how long ago, an ancient people had sailed from the Verge to a land called Asulon. She only remembers parts of the story, such as how they had fled from an evil Daemon's armies, but she does remember the Elf who told the story, how he sat laid back on a comfortable chair in the corner nearest to the fire, his eyes lit up and his hands wildly gesturing as he spoke. Her eyes had followed those grey hands, mesmerized by their movements and the shapes they created as they mirrored the story. She had in that moment desperately wanted to have been on those ships, sailing into the unknown, although the Undead had sounded a bit scary to her six year old self. One First Seed, when she was fifteen, she came home, loudly announcing that the next day she would be going to the sea. Despite her mother's horror-stricken response and her father's frown and her two older brothers' pleading, she went away the next day. For the next sixteen years, there was no sign of her, except for perhaps the occasional letter that arrived on the doorstep of the family, brought by a stern traveller on horseback or an amiable Forest Dwarf on a cart pulled by his braying donkey. It was not until Nim was 31 years of age that she returned home, much to the joy of her family, although in that time, her mother had passed away from sickness. Her eyes were bright and wild as the stories sprouted from her lips like so many snowdrops at Malin's Welcome. She had sailed for months along rivers to Godfrey's Peaks and seen the Jewel of Humanity, although, as she added, "The trees weren't like they are here at home, and one was not allowed to climb the city roofs". She had been to the Cloud Peninsula and seen many strange and unfamiliar forests and races. There, she had also stumbled across a strange place called Gimblewood. "It's where I got this!" she giggled as she showed her captive audience the chain of pale blue pearls in her waist-length hair. "I could never find it again, though." For the next 12 years, Nim lived at home with her father and brothers', attempting to learn wood whittling, as was her father's trade; however, she proved far more adept at using a bow than carving one, and better at wielding a knife in combat than in whittling. The many years away had changed her in ways that her family and old friends no longer could understand, but nevertheless, they were happy to have Nim back. That was until the Undead came. Nim does not remember that day very well, although she still has nightmares about it from which she wakes screaming and crying. What she does remember is how she and her brother escaped. How her remaining brother was bleeding, bleeding like he would never stop, from a wound in his stomach that she does not remember him receiving. She remembers how he died in her arms, with her begging him to stay. She remembers how she had screamed until her throat was raw and bloody, and kicked him until her foot was sore and bruised. Then, she had subsided into an unnatural calm and tucked him under the roots of an oak tree, in the hope that he might become one with nature. She set out, never to return to what had been home, in search of something she would never have again. (EDIT: I have attempted to add further details on where the village lies and have added some more mention of races and a historical event. Since I could not find out what year it is currently on the server, I cannot add any dates such as my character's birth date or the year she set out.) Personality Traits: High-spirited, cheerful, creative, head-strong, absent-minded, freewheeling, blunt, childish, fiery, troublesome, impatient. Due to her traumatic experiences, her mood can suddenly change dramatically if they are but lightly touched upon. Ambitions: Her primary ambition is to find a new family, as she lost her old one to the Undead. Her secondary ambition is to root out the Undead from wherever they may be and defend others from them. Strengths/Talents: One of her talents is navigating by the night sky, a talent acquired through being fascinated by the sky and spending many happy hours staring up at it. She is very agile and good at climbing anything, including people. Her balance is excellent; however, she used to get in trouble for jumping on other people's shoulders from various heights when she was a child. She continues to do so shamelessly, although not as often as she once did. Weaknesses/Inabilities: Her inability to be patient is very prominent. If something does not wholly capture her interest, she gets very angry, which is why, despite her father's patient teaching, she is hopeless at whittling wood. Creating material things does not come naturally to her at all. Neither is she very strong, big or heavy, which makes her vulnerable when she cannot flee or dodge in a fight. She is therefore claustrophobic. Appearance (List the extra details of your characters appearance, IE; height & weight): Nim is short for an elf, what with her height being 5'3''. Her weight is usually around 51 kilos, although that can vary from season to season. Her neck is a little too long to be a wholly pleasing length, and her face is diamond shaped, ending in a somewhat pointed chin. Her hair is a carroty orange with a few, natural highlights of blonde. Usually, it is in a loose ponytail with small braids twisted into it. A small, delicate chain of pale blue pearls hold it into place, and sometimes a headband made from twisted grass can be seen surrounding Nim's head like a crown. Her eyes are a dull green.
