Hello friends it is I, Cosmetology. This all feels very weird and forced so like this introduction is bad because I am not sure how I really ever planned to write one of these things because I never really did plan to write one. But I felt it would be wrong to do without one. 

I spent a lot of time on here the past year and it was actually a lot of fun, thanks for that. But this is to announce to those I had not known or messaged that I am stepping down and moving myself away from LoTC to deal with some offline issues. This is indeed a farewell. 

The community here is without a doubt scary sometimes but also can be incredibly nice. I came to grow really fond of it actually. So I wanted to say my peace before I left since I feel like everyone on here is just about doing the same thing. If you are using LoTC and roleplay as an escapist platform please remember that you are still you and still a person with feelings. You may feel you can escape from yourself and those feelings go away but ultimately your feelings are just waiting for you on the other side. Please remember to take care of yourselves and each other but do not forget about your own self and what you need. 

Uh so basically with that, I will be stepping down within the next few days at soonest and you will be receiving a new Application Team Director. I want to ask that those who have pressing needs for the AT to give this Director some time. They will need to adjust to their position and begin work which can be scary at first but also can be incredibly time consuming. I know everyone wants to the Tailor's Guild but please do not fight the new Director on that. I had a lot on my plate and ultimately the Tailor's Guild suffered because of myself and my mistakes do not feel you need to take that out on the team. 

I am so very thankful for my team and the ability to work with them all this time!

August Monthly Update Log

The beginning of fun updates

The month of August feels like it flew by welcome to our next update, even though I feel like I just typed the last update yesterday. We are beginning to start new information on projects. A New Skin Archive is about to be released, thank you to all our contributors, and this will kick off the start of the posts and information around the Tailor’s Guild. Thanks for waiting to patiently I know this has been frustrating for us all. MickMeist has a new project involving banditing that he is going to be releasing information on soon. A series of forum posts and informational threads will begin as a new communications project. I am very excited to begin seeing these new works in action!

New Player Data

I am going to move us right into the New Player Data for the month. August’s most applied for race is human once again, last month we had seen elves take lead for the first time in a while. Humans took lead at 46.3%, elves were in second at 33.7%, Orcs in third at 10%. Dwarves had then been a bit after Orcs at 6.8% and Halflings and Kha tied at 1.6%.

Our application rate has remained high but steadied out compared to the surplus of applications we received over the early summer months. Our number came to 386 total applications this month. Our acceptance rates have hit 51.6% while our denial rates totaled at 48.5%. MickMeist has been working very hard to look into our current forms to prepare a new form for us to begin collecting more data, as well as add some separation into our data, so we may be looking at separate data in the comments again if available. Our most accepted timezone was American with 67.2% of incoming players, European timezone players came in second with 29.8%, and Oceania had a total of 3% of incoming players.

Member Alterations

This month we had not added any new members to focus on the members added within the last month, however we are going to begin adding new members once again. We are especially looking for PST, GMT, and other uncommon timezone areas. Please consider applying if interested. We want to send our love to Torkoal_Tom, Punisher8817, MadYeAd, Lackless, and Riftblade who have moved on from our team and on to other things. Our friendship and love does not end with the team but continues on past it. Special thank you to Torkoal to all the work she has done with us within her months alongside us. And a special congratulations to Riftblade for becoming Forum Team Director!

This month was a great month on the team, and we have lots of new faces in our top spots! King of Quota is once again a Queen! Congratulations Ivoryyy_ you made it! Ivoryyy_ was followed closely by ZachsSlayer, Skale then tagged behind, and Tenredux followed behind Skale.

Additional Information

Until the forum post on how to join Tailor’s Guild comes out will we be able to start adding members but please consider it if interested in making skins. Please keep your eyes peeled for our post on our new projects I am very excited for them to start coming out to you. The team has worked so hard this month and we have been busy busy busy.

A Thank You

I want to thank Flamboyant and Knox for being excellent helps to the team this month, they are only two at the moment and doing all they can, we really appreciate it. I also want to thank MickMeist once again, I had fallen terribly ill in the last week and he had really stepped up to the plate once again and took in a lot of work on my absence on his own. I want to thank my team for being incredibly and helping me everyday. I also want to thank Vaynth for always being around and great help, though the team is no longer hers she still continues to be there to support it and that is amazing.

Alternate Applications Information

Since early this year we have switched over to a new application format which involved having all older applications archived along with the post with the Alternate Application format. This involved moving the Alternate Applications into a new area as well which has caused some confusion. Here is a post to inform those on how to properly submit an Alternate Application.

Where can I find the Alternate Applications?

Alternate Applications are located within the Apply tab. Once in the Apply tab please locate the back tab labeled Personas in the top left hand corner. You will then be able to view the Whitelist Application Forum and Alternate Application Forum. Please select Alt Applications. 

How can I make an Alternate Application?

Making an Alternate Application is simple and easy. Please select add new application once in the correct area to apply. You will notice that Alternate Applications still have the format of the Whitelist Applications, which is where confusion arises for some. This section is being worked on by our Web-Devs still. In big bold text you will read 

This is the Alt Account application. It's a work in progress but we are trying to implement this so you can quickly apply as an alt.
For now, in the "Character Biography" section, instead of providing a persona biography please copy over the form found Here and answer the questions to the best of your abilities. Thanks!

What is the Alternate Application format?

The Alternate Application Form should be titled the name of the account you wish to have whitelisted. 

You will then be asked to copy and paste a small questionnaire on out of character information into the biography section. No in character information is required.

My Alternate Application was accepted but I am still a soul. Please alert an Application Team Member with your accepted application link and they will be happy to assist. 

My Alternate Application was denied but why? Please contact the Application Team Member who reviewed your application if you believe this was in error. 

My Alternate Application was denied because I am banned. Unfortunately it is considered ban evading if you are trying to whitelist an account to play while being banned, please await your ban time to resubmit your application.

Been receiving a lot of the same questions on Alternate Applications so I hope this helped.

The PK of your character should really be up to you, but if you are making such a thread it appears you are uninterested in such character so perhaps it would not affect how you feel regardless. 

When I PK'd my first character I was really disappointed in the roleplay I received after that. I made my main character now on a whim and really disliked her for a long time. It actually took until I found a new group to roleplay with did I begin to enjoy her because I was able to create her all over again along with that experience. 

Suggestion is to stick it out and find a new group. Or create a new character and find a new group. You need to create a new experience for you to enjoy and you won't find that trying to do the same thing with a new character. 

So just from personal experience I had a really hard time reading Blah when I first joined. This was in Athera where road side and tavern RP with passing by Orcs was more common for myself to run into. I am dyslexic so that is something that made it incredibly difficult for me to understand and affected my experience (not their fault my own personal fault) with orc roleplay which often led to several messages of /looc what did he say? /looc can you uh translate? /looc what did he ask her to do? And depending on the other roleplayer it was met with someone who was happy to explain or someone who was very unhappy about needing to explain or translate. However I feel like when I see Blah used now, it is often well "dumbed down" versions of words we use daily which made it easier for myself to understand now as well as many others but often is where a lot of arguments come in to how Blah should and should not be spoken. Especially if you are starting out as an Orc. 

I put my thoughts outside of Blah in a spoiler, I had hoped it make it shorter but unfortunately it ended longer than I wanted it to. You had directed this at Blah but you had said "I want to know what prevents people from making Orcs."so I wanted to explain why this may be for new players or others perhaps.

In the video detailing orcs on the Wikipedia you do not get into the language of Blah until 3 minutes into the video. It gives a brief view of a few words as well as audio speaking of  few words, and a bit of the culture on Blah. But that is the only real audio learning experience that is showcased you can get. 

On the Orc Wikipedia page the first reference you get to the language is actually not even Blah but rather elven language. Seen here "Name The name 'orc' derived from the Ancient Elven ork (orq-) 'monster', 'ogre', 'demon'. This was largely a result of the strength, cruelty and bloodlust of the orcish race. It can be spelled (in order of popularity) either Orc, Ork, or Orq. The pronunciation of which is all the same." The next closest reference you receive is within explanation excerpt on Ologs which states "Ologs are incapable of thinking without speaking their thoughts, possess very limited vocabularies" while this is not language itself, may very well be where you are receiving most of your moronic and meme complaints.

The page is short, gives you simple statement words, but ends about there. Now I hate to compare things and correct me if I am wrong, I do not play an Orc so I do not know much of Orcs and their information on the forums but one of the only posts I could find was https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/82925-speaking-the-blah/  and https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/166741-old-blah-~-the-tongue-of-the-spirits/ these were both found with a simple google search "lotc blah" which is how most find their information. Now for the comparison part, which I am aware may cause some controversy, if I am to search "lotc elven language" one of the first forum posts that I am directed to is https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/19254-recovering-the-ancient-tongue-of-the-elves/ this gives many words as well as a lesson on how to use them in a sentence correctly. This is odd to me because Blah is something that is spoken in more than just a few words but rather the entirety of their speech but there is not much direction on how to use it correctly. There is fluency tips but those are rather off putting due to the fact that they really just tell you to use Z instead of S and replace letters with the incorrect letter that just sounds like the right one. To New Players this is not a lot of information but even to old players this is not a lot of information. It even says "I wouldn't worry too much" and that is really great to be able to be so laid back and have a character you don't have to put too much mind into the speech of. But perhaps this is too much freedom, especially when you have people now running with the race and being meme-y or not serious. It is off putting to be expected to use this within your daily life style as this race and not have as much information provided to you. 

I am not sure if this really helped, but I would have hoped some of this information can be taken. I would like to see Orc roleplay pick up for new players who are interested in orc roleplay. Thanks for reading, I hope no hard feelings for the comparison I made.

July Monthly Update Log

The We are almost more fun update…

This month was more time consuming for team mechanic things than I had anticipated. So the project updates are going to be cut into half. This update will talk about the New Player Discord getting a makeover, the Tailor’s Guild expecting a makeover, the New Player Video being switched over, and to be expecting more projects to come soon!

New Player Data

Let’s hop right into our New Player Data for this month! July is over already with the most applied for race being elves! Elves have won most applied for race by just the hair more at 40.8%, humans are second most applied for race at 38.1%, the dwarves are next in line at 8.1%, orcs following closely behind at 7.3%, halfling at 3.5%, and kharajyr at 2.3%. The most applied for subrace was none other than wood elves coming in at 26.4% of elven applications.

Now I must admit my prediction was wrong and a bit off, summer starts much earlier for some areas than I realized so we got the bulk of summer applications last month. We ended up getting less applications last month. We reached 475 applications total this month, which may sound bad to some because lower but our typical guest application that needs edits is 1-2 applications in itself, so we have done better in acceptances. Our acceptance rate hit 56.4% and our denied rate hit 43.6%. We are going to begin with the new graphs this month to start separating the data, but the separate data will be posted within the comments again. As for timezones 63.3% American, 31.8% European, and 4.9% Oceania players. 
 

Member Alterations

We had a large roster change this month. @MickMeist has stepped up into the manager plate. Congratulations to him, I am very proud of the work he has done and the work he does. I am excited for him to continue his journey with us on the team and help the lead of the team. We also accepted 10 new members. Welcome aboard the Application Team Train: Skale, sophiaa, Demigryph, Ivoryyy_, Karimir, Keefy, tenredux, Top_Goon, ZachoSnacko, and Zombiefide. This month we also lost our member Chorale_.

This month was an incredibly crazy month as we were training so many new members and answering questions, I cannot thank the team enough for their cooperation with the hectic time. However things are finally settling down as we approach this new month. July’s King of Quota is a new but old face going to MadYeAd! Congratulations to MadYeAd, he was closely followed by Skale, who was then chased by Punisher, and ZachsSlayer.  

Additional Information

With the New Player Discords update we are still missing Stewards and Nation Leader’s can you believe that? We need members from Warhaweks, Renatus-Marna, and so many more. Please join us at any time we would love to have you all. It has come to my attention recently we have 626 members in that discord, which is almost half of the Official Lord of the Craft Discord. New Player Video needs a voice actor still!!!! Tailor’s Guild is the same as before but makeover time! A Thank You

I cannot write this area of the update log without once again thanking MickMeist, this month our lovely Torkoal took a well deserved Hiatus and Mick stepped right up to the plate and helped every step of the way, he has been there for myself and the team in every which way and it is appreciated to the max. I want to thank Fireheart once again, fun fact Fireheart answers all of my frantic how do this command questions. I also wish to thank Flamboyant for stepping in and helping out the team. Duties of an AT member include but are not limited to:

-Reviewing Applications

-Assisting new players outside of applications

-Assisting new players within applications

-being an active team member with one another

-being active member in the new player discord 

-communicating with other members of staff if a new player has a question involving their duties

-There are many more but this is a small highlight point just to help you out

This is currently denied/hard shelved lore as we previously had a similar type of creature. You may find it beneficial to make some edits based on what was necessary to be edited within this lore. But it also may give you some explanations on why we do not see such a creature within our lore currently.
