orkz also can’t decide if they want to be knock off mordor, Warcraft orcs, greenskins….

finally, orkz as a nation or society almost always devolves into a PVPer banana republic or just a non inclusive, unappealing mass. they would do much better following the ELDER SCROLLS example and establishing lair-like strongholds where they held themselves to a strict honor code or w/e, same with being nomadic. could even make a story of orcs dying out rather than larping in cities and deciding if ur a war nation or a weed nation

entire map isn't a desert or winter wasteland? no thanks

in reality this probably has more thought put into it than the past 4 lotc maps and if map devs were smart they'd work smarter not harder and just snipe this so we aren't stuck on the cancer of almaris for another year.

above posters need to think about this from the perspective of a noob and not as a player who knows where activity is and how the server is

a noob who wanders and finds 5+ dead settlements with locked gates is barred from exploration and organic interest. if you turn around and tell them “well you didn’t know where to look” that’s a problem with the product not the player 

citizen doors should equal instant entrance to any raiding party larger than a group of 4 who rps having a small battering ram or a blasting potion. they’re stupid and have never made sense. seeing people zoom in through a set of tiny doors next to the giant gate is clown world. just keep the gate open.

if lotcs world was dynamic road rp would be worth it...... buttttt lotcs world is not dynamic enough to the point that road rp will ever be worth sacrificing players time

as old as the server is, and as old as some of the playerbase is, i would expect the currency of time to be valued above all else. a lot of us are in college, have lives, jobs, etc (and ik someone below is going to subironically quote this section and go HAHA no we dont we play MINECRAFT so stfu noob) and honestly i cbf'd to run around settlement to settlement just to find rp, after 30 mins to an hour of searching for it during the time i log on

oh and this isn't even addressing the thrilling rp you get when you're stopped on the roads and robbed into an 8 hour crp fight or alternatively get clicked to death which is the most epic char development you'll ever get omg ebin:DDDDD

fast travels r the great equalizer, cause at least then you can efficiently find rp and not deal with wasting ur time 

edit: take away staffs ability to /warp and /tp for a month and you'll never hear about an lotc without fast travel again

im circle road pilled, CT directly in the middle of the map on a mountain ala throat of the world from skyrim

with that, a roundabout 'kings' road type going around the entire map with branches inward and outward leading to settlements and stuff

((it doesnt have to be a perfect circle, but round in nature))

i didnt play on atlas or arcas but arcas' design looks p solid in terms of what id be looking for

also next map dont split into two continents its a horrible idea that makes the map appear a lot bigger than it is, and separates players needlessly

super dramatized server-wide events are corny. watching an ET cinematic rp infront of a ton of people is really not fun and often self absorbed. 

the aegis undead were so great because they were overpowered. the server is so obsessed with fair endings and balance that everything is so canned. legit feels like WWE sometimes. whereas in aegis, as mentioned above, the undead could and did roll up on towns and just destroy them in huge pve fights. there would be floating undead citadels that would encroach upon your small village: netherrack spreading like a virus. i have distinct memories of using cakes as medpacks because that predated Minecraft hunger bar.

i didn’t experience the harbingers but from what I hear they had a similar gimmick, and were similarly powered up to make up for their smaller size. 
 

and of course im chief Westerlands shill: there’s some minor misconceptions when it comes to the wlands, mostly, we didn’t have a ton of ET support into late into the life of the Westerlands. we legitimately hunted mobs in the woods, did patrols by the sunless sanctum portal, and when Skylez started coming around he started doing our massive PVE fights for us. the whole “mordring invading the word through the sunless sanctum” was entirely pushed narratively by us to give us purpose and fulfill our niche if nights watch rp. by time I became king, rudi and ang got involved because I wanted to cooperate with ET / spooks to create something special. were there not special actors at play I think it could’ve been something even more special than it was ! 

nevertheless, I bring that story of the wlands up because 9 times out of 10 players will make their own fun and only a select group of people who really care about lore will care about storylines. overall, people want something to fight and they talk about. they’re high maintenance, oftentimes larp, and rarely done correctly. a solid PVE world event will always be more fun than some weird dialogue and crp. 

manpower is also an issue in that this is a hobby for most people and this server isn’t a video game. so developing these super in depth map storylines is sometimes strenuous and just not fun, especially when players are only so clever to murder everything in their path ! !

it's a million times more interesting and realistic than the dumb shit we always get. you can tell that our maps are designed with everything set to plains first, and then they stick in some gigantic unscalable mountains and a few racial biomes here and there. it really shows and our maps are always painfully boring because of it

 

default minecraft generation is just a million times better and we should use it. just run it a few times until you get a good seed, edit it to make it feel more like a continent, and tweak from there

legit modern MC Gen is actually beautiful, i dont think many lotcers play minecraft SP but the new world gen is awesome, would support this 

large maps equal nation and vassal bloat plus a bajillion erp manors 

im sorry but ur decadent house doesnt contribute to the overall health of the server
