  3. A young boy high within the Hand of Horen finalises the arrangement of his playthings with neat precision.

    He was now five years old. With small quick eyes, with indomitable schedules; he is at home wherever he wakes: his mothers room, or his own, or the council chambers, or in some other place his mother happens to be. He is risen at five, says some small prayers; the words which he knew, the meaning lost on him at this early age. He breaks his fast, he attends to his toy-soldiers, and then flutters his lids shut for some rest. By six o’clock he is with his tutors, who carry in their heads the statutes of the Realm, the canticles and the words of the Exalted Prophets, the accounts of the king; the lineages, the incomes, the lands, the dignities.

    These days are long and arduous, and in spite of the attention he could not help to feel solemn isolation.

    Often, he looked out onto the Silver Sea. As he did so, on this day, above him the thunderous climbing of Counsellors of State disturbed his brief peace.

    He did not know the reason why. Nor would anyone tell him.

    By night he dreamt of ghosts rising and angels descending; the world turned upon itself, but he remained.

    He, Edmund, King of Aaun by the Grace of God. Though he barely knew it.

  4. Louis-Etienne Olivier Dieuxmont de Rosius, who calls himself Olivier, places pen to paper and signs his name against this the pronouncement of his forthcoming matrimony. He whispers a prayer to Almighty God for His unbound Providence and for His other gifts that he - he, Olivier - might soon be wedded to the kindest and most understanding woman he knew. Asides from his mother.

  5. Louis-Etienne Olivier Dieuxmont de Rosius, who simply calls himself ‘Olivier’, braces to take on the defining role of his life in this world; to safeguard his kingdom into the future and ensure peace amongst the realms of the descendants. He showed genuflection to his king upon the appointment being made, and prayed to Almighty God for the strength and courage to see his task through.

  6. Olivier Dieuxmont, an eminent historian in the making, scrutinises the names, attempting - along with the spirits of all Alstion's past - to find the progeny of the similarly named but entirely unaffiliated 'Hans Carolus Alstion'. He could not.

    Spoiler

    Let me be clear, this is a total (almost definitely egregious) fabrication borne from nothing but an expectation of affiliation to a 'royal' family. None of the characters you claim this character descends from were played, indeed they ever existed. There is not one single iota of roleplay associated with your character. This isn't your family, you haven't invested a penny into its successes and you haven't been there for its failures - and let me tell you there have been many of those.

    On several occasions I offered to help these new 'Alstions' move onto something with sufficient basis in roleplay (after being told that the primary motivator was 'always played a Horen, always will') and something that doesn't claim descent from a character that was played for little more than a month almost six years ago. Seriously?

    It's not a reach to say that to be a member of the Alstion family is an indicator - or badge - of diligence, investment, quiet humility, and storms weathered. And it is not inegalitarian to suggest that you avoiding all these experiences but claiming the same is anything but cynical poor form.

  7. "Lairdy, ye can call yourself whit ye like - doesnae make it true. Whilst ye've been griftin fish, we've been protectin the royal alstions for a hundrit years, an will for a hundrit years more. Ye iver see us gae for glory? Have I iver call myself yer laird? An yet ye call yerself mine. Ye are na more ma chief than I king o Haense.

    Now git aff back tae yer island ye pesky scrounger." He - he, Iain Gromach - is simmering to his sister, who undeservedly receives his present tirade as a mere messenger. The aging Warden of the Daelish Crown has a foul-smelling shoe thrown at him.

  8. Somewhere - in some manner of place set about crickets and woodpeckers - an aged, but perhaps not yet grey, Dael ponders His Majesty's address. A solemn man, he thinks of the boy he grew up alongside. A sober man, he thinks of the gambler who he once frequented round-tables with. A loyal man, he thinks of the King his dear friend James has become.

    Perhaps it is time, Iain Gromach thinks, to come back into his Kings service.

  9. 13 minutes ago, CharmingCavalier said:

    Henry Penton sat at his desk and wondered why the auditor was so fascinated with this matter and not the reinvestigation of the natural death of Philip Aurelian. He commented to an aide as they passed, “next they’ll have leal canonist Azdrazi testifying against faithful Orenians! What lows a church has sunken to fulfill the wishes of the half-men and lizards. The Canonist Church is now nothing but the Church of Yaomir and Yemekar.

    "He's doing it again." groaned the full-time carer of Henry Penton to his colleague at the Orenian nursing home for the old and infirm, "He's talking about priests being lizards. Someone give him a sweetie! Pronto!"

  10. "That the thirty-something Vasileia Basrid would weaponise the little children of Olivier II for her own bidding is shocking. May the young Carolina live a fulfilling and pious life hereon." remarked William Alstion, content that this third generation of de Savoie's would one day reconcile.

    "With so many Orenians on this list you should've gotten the emperor himself to sign." murmured the confused man who had distinctly remembered having sentenced Vasileia Basrid to death on treason charges.

    THE REGENCY, TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, DECLARES:

    In the pursuit of stability and immediate cessation of ongoing civil strife within our borders; to bring about a government of the realm; in recognising the potential for further escalation by fugitives of the law:

    The position of Chancellor and Vicechancellor will be abolished;

    A committee will oversee all matters of governing Savoy until further notice;

    The peerage will be assembled into a council;

    Martial law will be established throughout the territories of Savoy;

    Certain foreign visitors may be subject to screening.

    ORDER I OF THE REGENCY:

    A Committee of Four will supersede the Council of State, which is suspended until further notice, and will make up the following:

    Ulrich von Alstreim

    Borys Jazloviecki

    William Alstion

    Renata Ashford de Savoie

    The peerage is summoned to San Luciano and will carry out the orders of Prince Lucien as the Council of Lords until dismissed. The Lords will advise and inform the Committee of Four on matters of government and intelligence.

    The military will immediately assume responsibility over any and all fortifications within Savoy and may be given temporary quarters in any uninhabited buildings that officers should desire. Likewise, military tribunals will handle all cases of law except those authorised by the regent.

    By order of the Committee some foreign visitors may be subject to screening by the military on entry to the Principality and the City of San Luciano. This excludes those citizens permitted unfettered entry via treaty.

    The fugitive Vasileia Basrid is hereby stripped of her position as Chancellor of Savoy, and it alongside the position of Vicechancellor is dissolved immediately.

    On behalf of the Crown we reiterate that all citizens who come across Vasileia Basrid must apprehend her. We further declare that any who house Vasileia Basrid will be assumed to have frustrated the course of justice and face arrest.

    We have reason to believe that the child Olivier Guy is being held hostage by the fleeing Vasileia Basrid and her followers in conditions we can only assume are degrading and unfit for one so young. We call upon any who may know of his whereabouts to contact the military immediately.

    ISSUED BY,

    His Excellency, Ulrich von Alstreim,

    His Lordship, Borys Jazloviecki,

    His Serene Highness, Lucien of the House Ashford de Savoie, Prince of Savoy and Duke of Corazon, etc.

  13. 11 minutes ago, Asutto said:

    Victoria Emma blinked repeatedly after reading the missive "I don't know how they expect this to end. Even if they depose of all the Peers of Oren and the Monarchs, do they think the citizens will bend the knee to Haenser rule?" The youth shook her head. "Only further fracturing whatever grip the Church of Canon had left on the Empire. I half expect the Red Faith to be the new majority religion by the end of this saints year."

    "Mad because anathema." a peasant loyal to the true faith chants repeatedly on hearing Victoria babble to herself.
