Biography Alaya was born in the Republic of Salvus to a Southerner mother and Northener father, but her small family moved when she was very young to Al-Wakhrah. It was there her mother passed away, and her father, unable to bear the memories that the house held for him, moved the two of them to Sutica when Alaya was five. It was there he settled on the outskirts of the town, working as a hired hand on farms as he constructed a forge near the house for him to pick back up the smithing he had learned in childhood. He soon moved to smithing completely, helping to supply the town with farming equipment and weapons, and once Alaya aged to her teens he would often send her to various cities with some merchandise to sell. When she turned 15 her father bought her a horse to assist her in her travels, rather than the family mule, and it was then she discovered a love for riding. From running messages for friends to being a delivery service for some of the merchants in the village, she was on horseback almost as often as on her own two feet. While out riding once she came across a Southerner girl her age, also on horseback, and after a short race the two became fast friends (although they never agreed on who won that race). Shortly after her 17th birthday Alaya was waylaid by bandits while on the road, heading to Al-Wakhrah with a large collection of jewelry for the market. Although she managed to escape, Sivir, her horse, was injured badly, and collapsed on the road a few miles from the city. Alaya was forced to put the brave mare out of her misery and made the rest of the journey on foot. The next year or so was quiet, but as her father was aging he began to search for a suitable husband for his daughter. Alaya was not terribly enthusiastic about this idea, and persuaded her father to allow her to strike out on her own instead. Their goodbye was bittersweet, tears getting caught in smiles as the two promised to see each other again soon. Then, hefting her backpack onto her shoulders, a 19-year-old Alaya set off down the road, ready for an adventure.
