What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Alchemy

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Alchemy is potionmaking. It is based off of the material alphabet, an underlying alphabet of symbols that correspond to universal concepts, like death or purity. Through alchemy, one may identify symbols of the material alphabet lurking in reagents, extract those symbols, and then recombine them into potions and other creations.

Reagents have one or two signs, those being Fire, Water, Earth, Air, and Aether. These signs determine the method of extraction for the symbols in the reagent, unless the potion the alchemist is making does not require signed symbols and they just extract them mundanely. Reagents then have (usually) four different symbols, and of varying counts- some examples are instability, coldness, or poison. In order to make a potion, an alchemist must provide an appropriate amount of symbols of the appropriate signs as denoted in the potion's recipe.

First, an alchemist must identify the signs and symbols within a reagent. They do this by closely examining the reagent for a number of hours determined by their skill level.

Second, an alchemist must extract the desired symbols from the reagent. They do this differently depending on what signs they want the extracted symbols to be. Mundane-signed symbols must be shredded, grounded down, saturated with aqua vitae, filtered and boiled until only powdered remains. Aether-signed symbols use the same process, only with aurum tools. Fire-signed symbols must be dried, shredded, set alight, and then have their signs extracted from the ash. Earth-signed symbols must be crushed, grounded down with a half-ratio of salt, and then have the salt separated via sieve. Water-signed symbols must be soaked, shredded into mush, and poured thinly over a dish to let evaporate. Air-signed symbols must be dried, shredded, and then worked with bellows.

Thirdly, the alchemist must mix the extracted symbols into the potion. This varies from potion to potion, with many not having a specific process.

Tier three alchemists can only make three potions a day. Some potions must be ST-signed. Common potions can be made freely, while rare potions must be learned IRP. Reagents and potions, when used, must be disposed of. Potions require three emotes to use: Draw -> Prime -> Throw/Apply. Alchemy and magic cannot be used simultaneously.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

There are greater applications of alchemy, like automatons, but they require separate apps.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

    Casting Emote - Smoke Whispers

Having drawn and shaken the grey, smoky potion, Faeryel slams it down on the ground at her feet. The glass breaks with a crash, before a torrent of black smog spews from within, rapidly expanding to cover an area of three meters by three meters by three meters. Those caught inside can only see two meters in front of themselves!

Casting Emote - Fire-signed Symbol Extraction

Faeryel slams the steel against her flint, producing small sparks of burning particulates. These fall into the pan of dried, shredded, sawdust-like plant material below her; it immediately catches alight, burning merrily. Once it's done, she hunches over the ashes, monocle on her eye and tweezers in her hand, doing her best not to breathe as she separates bits of ash from other bits of ash.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

    Teaching Emote - Blasting Potion

Faeryel hunkers down behind her makeshift bunker as she watches her student hold a small dish above a boiling cauldron. "Alright, Willard. We've done the easy steps; we've dissolved the strength into the Drake's Tail, then let it boil, then the rage, then the burning. Now comes the important part. Once you dump that dish into the cauldron, I want you to run. Immediately. Do not look back."

"What might happen?" Asks her nervous student, quivering with fear, his eyes darting between Faeryel and the cauldron.

"Oh! Well, it might explode. It isn't likely, but it's very common. Good luck!" With that, she ducks down.

Willard inverts the dish, and then SPRINTS over to join Faeryel behind the overturned table. The potion crackles and boils merrily behind them; it seems that they'd gotten lucky.

"Good. I'd hate to spend my afternoon picking exploded cauldron splinters out of your hand."

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

If my student powergames during my teaching, I would stop them there. I would explain what they did wrong, why what they did was wrong, and then have them reemote.

If my student powergames after my teaching, I would explain them what they were doing wrong, and why what they did was wrong. If they continued, I’d report them to the ST.

  2. Thirty-five odd years after she'd sworn never to visit Nor'asath again, Faeryel found herself inexplicably drawn to its architecture. She ended up in the Maehr temple, where a pair of young shamans explained to her that Qudlia had died over a decade prior.

    "Ah. How?"

    An explanation was provided.

Faeryel blinked. "Do you know why she did it? Jumped?"

    Another explanation.

"Well, that's a shame." Faeryel looked away.

The shamans told her, since she'd evidently forgotten, that Maehr lived forever in the Ancestral Realm.

"That's true." Faeryel brought up a hand to scratch her cheek, eyes taking the far-off look of recollection. Consulting Qudlia on ancient 'ker history. Refusing her offers of tutelage. The scarred Porôbmog passing judgement on Sarah, and then her apology, and Faeryel's acidic reply.

"I can't help but feel a little glum. She was strong. Smart. Full of conviction." Faeryel looked up, swimming in memories of Qudlia, and of all the other friends and enemies she'd outlived--"Ach, well, c'est la vie."

"They really cannot get you out of their head, huh, Sare?" remarks an elf with a smile as she moves her comically-oversized queen to h5. "Check."

  6. An elf squints at the paper over her morning tea, before showing it to the woman sitting next to her.

"Clearly, the powers-that-be in the Rexdom suppressed the story," she says, sending an aggrieved glance out the window. "They didn't want to publicize such an embarrassing misstep."

"Wow! That person sure has a similar name to you," an elf says to her good friend Sarah Artenin.

Deconstructing/Reconstructing an item with over the size of a one cubic meter from T3, requires an additional emote to conjure for T4, or two additional emotes for T5. The more space conjured the more exhaustion one takes. For every additional cubic meter taken past the first, it removes a deconstruction/reconstruction counter from your maximum amount. For example, summoning a chair which takes two cubic meters, will put you two deconstruction/reconstruction down instead of one.

This was difficult to understand and can be phrased better. You should just say that anything from 2-8 cubic meters requires +1 scale emote, and anything from 9-27 cubic meters requires +2 scale emotes- and then that anything over one cubic meter consumes a deconstruction/reconstruction counter per cubic meter above 1.

T1: Max Size of a handheld object, Max 5 deconstruction/reconstructions before exhaustion.

T2: Max Size of a beach ball, Max 6 deconstruction/reconstructions before exhaustion.

T3: Max Size of 1 cubic meter, Max 8 deconstruction/reconstructions before exhaustion.

T4: Max Size of 2³ cubic meters, Max 10 deconstruction/reconstructions before exhaustion.

T5: Max Size of 3³ cubic meters, Max 12 deconstruction/reconstructions before exhaustion.

You should just use 8 and 27 instead of 2³ and 3³.
