What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Golemancy

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Golemancy is granting life to rock and stone through the carving of sigils. This stone-given-sentience is called a golem; the process is lengthy.

Firstly, the golemancer must create a Golem Anvil, a magical anvil necessary for the carving of sigils. This is a [5] emote process of carving the Golem Heart sigil into a stone anvil, and imbuing it with mana and anima.

The golemancer then must create a golem core; a six-sided aurum cube that encases a gemstone, the type of gemstone varying by the type of golem. The golem core must have five sigils inscribed upon it; activation, which vanishes upon jump-starting the golem; memory, which allows for the formation and retention of memory and personality; touch, which allows the golem to perceive touch, pressure and texture, although not temperature; and hearing and sight, which allow a golem to hear and see as well as their descendant counterparts.

The core must then be placed into a body. A golemancer may either painstakingly sculpt a stone body from stone, insert the core, seal it within, and then activate the golem; or simply set the core in a pile of loose stone, whereupon the stone will coalesce to automatically form the shape of the golem. Thus is the golem made.

Golems do not experience emotion the same way that descendants do. They speak slowly, stoically and efficiently; aware of their long lives, they are sluggish to change and value stability. They prize knowledge and despise loss. The colors of their external sigils relates to their mental state; when blue they are calm and in control of their emotions. When red, often due to external damage or extremely negative emotions, they will go berserk and attack indiscriminately or experience extreme despair and withdraw.

Golems possess Imperas; descendants they are bound to which give them purpose and direction. Golems are no longer required to unthinkingly follow the orders of their Imperas, instead regarding them as trusted mentors or friends.

Golems, after their creation, are capable of hosting auxiliary sigils. These are sigils that grant golems additional capabilities, with the amount that a golem is capable of hosting varying by golem type.

Illumination sigils charge over the course of [3] emotes, before releasing a bright flash of light in a 3 meter cone; this will blind people who do not avert their eyes for [1] emote. Compass sigils allow golems to always know where north is. Disruption sigils are activated over the course of [2] emotes, stunning a golem for [3] emotes upon them being hit; this may be used once per encounter, and this sigil can be engraved on an aurum hammer that only golemancers can use. Dowsing sigils allow golems to always know the way back to the surface when underground or in caverns. Laborer's sigils allow golems to perform great feats of triple strength out of combat, taking [3] emotes to charge. Tremorsense sigils allow golems to passively sense vibrations in the earth within a ten-meter radius, allowing them to perceive the heavy footsteps of others without facing them. Stonevoice sigils allow golems to communicate with other golems in a language only golems can understand.

Golemancers are also capable of producing golem prosthetics. These prosthetics can act as a replacement arm, leg or eye for a descendant who's lost theirs. Golem arms and legs are made of stone, and have two parts; a spike and the limb itself. The spike is directly inserted into the base of the missing limb, connecting it directly to the soul, causing extreme pain; the limb is then attached to the back of the spike via a socket. Golem eyes, on the other hand, have their spikes already attached; their installation is much gentler.

Golem limbs may bear an auxiliary sigil; one of illumination, compass, dowsing or disruption. They can be rendered inoperable in [5] sharp strikes or [3] blunt strikes. They must be LT-signed if sigiled, and a person can only have two of them. Golem eyes cannot bear any sigils, and will be rendered inoperable in one blunt strike.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

There are several types of golems, with varying sizes, levels of intelligence, durability, and auxiliary sigil compatibility.

Servus golems are NPCs. They are only capable of doing repetitive tasks, and cannot speak. Their height spans from 2ft-5ft, and they will flee from combat when it starts; their strength peaks at adolescent dwarf. [3] strikes from blunt weaponry will destroy their cores, [1] will destroy external sigils (or [2] if the weapon is sharp and not blunt). They cannot house auxiliary sigils.

Mundus golems are played via CA. The golemancer must create an LT-signed core with the significant magic item tag, which must have the player listed on it and remain within the player's inventory. They are from 5ft-8ft, their strength peaks at Uruk level, and they take [4] blunt hits to destroy their cores or [3] to destroy external sigils. They may house 2 auxiliary sigils.

Brutus golems are played via CA. They require one IRL week of work to produce. They are from 8ft-12ft in height, have strength slightly above an Olog, and can house 1 auxiliary sigil. It takes [7] hits with blunt weaponry to breach their cores, or [4] to destroy external sigils.

Titanicus golems are ET-only. They take a minimum of 5 golemancers 2 weeks to create. They can only be used in events, and are typically from 12-25ft in height. They're essentially walking siege engines and bear little intelligence.

Antecessor golems are NPCs. They are essentially stationary libraries, capable of storing and retrieving information, although only golemancers can commune with them. Golemancers may also, through ritual, transfer their souls into antecessor cores; allowing them to act as a repository of their memories. These cores can be communed with once per IRL month by golemancers.

Finally, soulbinding is an alternative method of creating Mundus and Brutus golem cores, by which a descendant's soul is forced into a golem core. This requires a [6] emote ritual by [3] golemancers, where they inscribe the golem core with six sigils of Binding. Soulbound golems are unfailingly loyal to their creators, unlike normal golems, and may bear [3] auxiliary sigils if a Brutus golem and [5] if Mundus.

All golems are vulnerable to auric oil, null arcana, and thanhium; strikes from these weapons will render external sigils inert after [2] strikes. If a golem's core is intentionally destroyed, they will lose all memories and their personality when rebuilt. They are incapable of learning magic, but may utilize knowledge-based feats like alchemy.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

    Hammer-Inscribed Disruption Sigil

As she faces the glowing-red Golem, Faeryel produces an aurum hammer, inscribed with strange runes. These sigils come to life, glowing a faint blue, as she angles the hammer at the construct; it begins to hum with power. "Stand down."

Faeryel lunges forward, getting a solid hit on the golem's midsection. A wave of crackling energy surges from the hammer's face, blue light washing over the golem's form; it goes still, its eyes dimming, as it is stunned for [3] emotes.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

"The Golem Anvil. I'm told that, back in the day, golem anvils were hewn from thanhic steel; only it had the magical conductivity requisite to create a golem. Now, we have the most important golemantical discovery of our modern era; the golem heart sigil."

Faeryel stands before an anvil of solid stone, anchored into the floor; hammer and chisel in hand. She looks across it at her student, who's scribbling feverishly in her notes. "They are necessary for the carving of all other sigils; core sigils, auxiliaries, what-have-you. A golem anvil is like an echo; it reverberates your magic back at you, intensifies it, reflects it. This lets you burn your will into stone with hammer and chisel."

Her student raises an enthusiastic hand. "Are there no other requirements for the anvil beyond the golem heart sigil?"

"Close. The anvil must be stone, not metal; for stone it will be used to hew. Good question; now, observe."

Faeryel leans over, and closes her eyes; when she opens them again, they're fully black. She begins to chisel upon the head of the anvil, stone chippings clinking to the floor; the golem-heart sigil slowly begins to form, glowing a faint violet as she works, emanating a low hum...

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

If my student powergames during my teaching, I would stop them there. I would explain what they did wrong, why what they did was wrong, and then have them reemote.

If my student powergames after my teaching, I would explain them what they were doing wrong, and why what they did was wrong. If they continued, I’d report them to the ST.

Hohkmat, as seen from the battlements of Fort Drusco; 1960

Faeryel frowned over the remains of a shattered mana obelisk, deep under the Chamber of Fire. She had put hours into its engineering and construction, and now it was so many rocks.

A note stuck out from the scattered stone.

LEAVE THE WAR. DONT [sic] SUPPORT WARMONGERS. GO BACK TO BEING PEACEFL [sic] AND THIS ALL STOPS.

“They’re not good at spelling, huh?” asked one of her lieutenants, leaning against a wall, watching her with an easy smile.

“It’s to be expected,” replied Faeryel, as the note burned to ash in her fist. “Violence is the only language these people understand; not Common.”

“Add more doors. This won’t happen again.”

    hUJC6P7.jpg

Fort Drusco after the battle, seen from the valley-bridge; 1960

“Now, isn’t this damned convenient?” joked one of Faeryel’s officers as she inspected the crisp crystal-lines of the arcane circle she’d be leading. Around them, cannon-metal creaked and armor clinked as the Covenant prepared their artillery assault. “I was picking rocks out of my boots for weeks after Balian. This time, I walked out of my front door and found myself in a siege camp!”

He fell silent when the order came down to prepare for the first salvo. Faeryel closed her eyes, and sought that familiar power within herself. Light spiderwebbed across the ritual-array at the feet of the Hohkmati battlemagi as they funneled mana into her, casting harsh shadows on the cavern walls.

When the order came down from on high, alongside the screaming cannonballs of the mundane artillery was flame. Fireballs roared across the river valley, hissing, crackling, thrumming with arcane might, before detonating against the walls of Drusco. And detonate they did, flinging showers of sparks into the air, blasting and burning wood and stone.

The fort smoldered. Faeryel assessed the damage, eyes narrowed, hunting for a weak spot; somewhere the wall had been picked away by flame. “There,” she barked, as churning earth manifested within the shining mage-array. “Let’s add a door there.”

Long had Hohkmat been plagued by raiders and vandals. Time and time again had the Uruk and the Veletzer brought the might of nations to bear against the small city-state. But they can’t win where it counts, Faeryel thought to herself as her sorcerers charged a teleportation spell, to follow the soldiers scurrying up the mountainside towards Drusco. How infuriating that must be.

  3. “Do they think we’ll tire of victory before they tire of defeat?” wonders Faeryel, as she inventories the takings from Drusco. “Will we tire of armor plundered, of revenge exacted, of repeated triumph on the battlefield, before they give up? What’s their strategy, here?”

  4. “Whitespire, Breakwater, Brasca, Hippo’s Gorge, and Castle Aurelian.” Faeryel strolls home with another Chamber of Fire member in tow, laden with the spoils of victory. “Why labor in the mines when the good men and women of Veletz seem so willing to do it for us?”

“You’ve got to give them some credit,” her companion chimes. “They’re very good at dying.”

  5. "No, no, he's right. Azdromoth is the Archdrakaar, not the Archdragaar. To pretend him and his ilk aren't corrupt and Ibleesian is folly." Some elf nods approvingly.

"That any of Azdromoth's fetid spawn could claim to be righteous or even neutral is very, very silly."

    CHAMBER OF FIRE INCIDENT REPORT

Filed 3 of The Amber Cold 1955 by Faeryel Artenin

    QRT0YaeJbReATp2A4izvVSOyObIAjlJSRPq-u3-a

    File Number: COF153

Title of Incident: VOIDFIRE and MALFLAME and BONESMOKE

    Date: 16 Sun’s Smile 1955

Personnel Involved: Faeryel Artenin, Sarah Artenin, Melfani Mashan

    Description of Incident: …

GLORY TO THE BLACK PONTIFF, HAIL THE DARK STAR!” wheezed the skeletal-robed cardinal as he staggered into Hohkmat’s square. With him came his retinue; a pair of demons with twisted, feminine features, glowing violet and hissing with malice; armored Orcs, whitewashed, abandoners of Krug; and a sorceress in pink, who would later claim she was there to sell cookies. “HAIL THE ARCH PRINCES!”

Several heavily-armed Hohkmati happened to be present. The Chamber of Fire’s soldier and mercenary and witch; an enigmatic Lady-Magister and her paladinic paramour; two knights of the Petrine Laurel, resplendent; Slith; a man yelling in a strange tongue and wielding eastern weapons; a child with a fire-wand; various bystanders.

MAY HIS ROT TAKE THE WEAK - EMBRACE ME - MY LORD!” The cardinal erupted into a mass of black miasma, spreading viciously, bringing with it boils and sickness and decaying flesh. He would be found dead, once the smog was banished, a smile on his emaciated features.

The armored orcs went to the right, clashing with the Thricebloods. A searing sphere of violet malflame soared through the black cloud, scattering knights with its explosion. One of the demons, a bleached, veiled, sharp-clawed monstrosity, produced a whip of evilfire; she turned around.

While an ally had appeared– a singular, annoying imp— new enemies for the Ibleesians had amassed. Mali magi and knights, tall and pale and fair of hair, had arrived at the Hohkmati gates. “Karin’ayla,” one of them said.

The gates slammed shut. The garishly-garbed sorceress fled in one direction; the crow-like demoness in another. The cultists trapped within were brought down by boomsteel and blades and conjured earth. The womanish whip-wielding fiend was incinerated by an overzealous bastard. The hungry mist, expanding and clinging and malevolent, was rent by flames of orange and blue.

Hohkmat emerged victorious, though peppered with pockets of bonesmoke and struck with malflame scars. Once again, the agents of the Betrayer were routed; their defeat celebrated with weary smiles and injured cheers.

…the use of black alchemy indicates that necromancers number among our enemies, in addition to demons. This author speculates that it may have been the work of Gashadokuro or his affiliates, as we know that the H████████e Coven are associated with a larger group.

While the identities of some of the arriving elves were known– Lady-Magister Silveira, Nepir, ████-- others were not. It has been suggested that they were passing Celia’norians.

That being said; one must wonder when the demons will tire of being outmanned and outgunned. Or, perhaps, these seemingly feeble attempts are meant to obfuscate some insidious plan…

  10. "TURN! FIGHT! TURN! FIGHT!"

Among the vestiges of the Coalition's shattered army, with her sword tragically unbloodied, Faeryel made her last stand against the grey-plated knights of Veletz. "BLOOD! BLOOD! BLOOD!"

The opportunity for death by combat was cruelly ripped from her when, by divine design or unfortunate happenstance, the world fell away. The darkness of the Void ate at the corners of her one good eye; the battlefield receded into the distance; and, screaming, she sought out the arcane within herself, and vanished in a swirl of black.

Title of Incident: DEMON ATTACK from THE TOMB of ANCIENTS

Date: 7 The Deep Cold 1955

Personnel Involved: Sarah Artenin, Louve Thriceblood

    Description of Incident: ...

A brisk winter wind blew through the rooftops of Hohkmat, sending chimes a-tinkling. The sky was merry and blue; the grass was not yet brown; and the fountain in the center of the city was turning red.

They had emerged from the tombs. Two demons and three cultists stepped out from the dark recesses of the district of the dead, black-cloaked and armored, weapons bristling, green malflame churning with hate. They had demanded Hohkmat to kneel; and Hohkmat responded with incredible violence.

Fireballs and potions and blasts of wind sung through the air. Crackling boomsteel exploded into the peace of that beautiful afternoon; bones splintered, muscles tore. Flesh bubbled and boiled and melted.

Sir Atticus Reinhold, knighted for his valiant efforts at the Battle of Whitespire, introduced one of the demon's faces to a blue fireball. An arrow intended for Louve Thriceblood sank into the helm of a cultist that Elena Thriceblood had bashed into the way. Sarah Artenin, the coolest wizard in all of the cosmos, found herself blasted backwards by a boomsteel blow; manifesting her own boomsteel weapon, she rejoined the fray.

Melody Twilight Valkyrie, the woman with three names, said "I don't go down that easy!" when she was, in fact, lifted up. Iduna Thriceblood, grinning madly, was likewise lifted up. Both were thrown; both suffered little injury. Yera Silveira, fanged and masked, vanished into miasma rather than take a fireball to the face and a blade in the gut.

The demons died. The Hohkmati onslaught was too much for them; their smoldering corpses, slathered in ichor, slumped to the cobblestones. The cultists retreated into the tomb; their way of entry was discovered, and walled-off. The citizenry took to the clinic to nurse their wounds.

“The Dark Star Rises; Five points to his star, Five fingers to HIS fist; Hail to the Arch Princes." The Ibleesians had come with five; the Hohkmati numbered a dozen or more. Perhaps the Archdaemon needed more fingers.

...the strength of Hohkmat is not in our organization, nor discipline, nor the strength of our gates and walls. It is in that every citizen is ready and willing to, at a moment's notice, unleash magical and martial hell on anything deemed an acceptable target.

I almost feel sorry for them.

  13. A shell-shocked elf prepares for another campaign in the trenches. She takes a shaky sip from her flask as she organizes the plunder from the previous successful sieges; "Home by Krugsmas," she mumbles.

  14. “The Ibleesian legacy is one of failure,” the elf says, sweeping away atronach blueprints from her desk as she stands up. She produces a joint as she rides the lift to the main floor of the Chamber of Fire

“Their Archdaemon has tried, and he has been beaten, his essence scattered. They have built no cities. They are hated the realm-over by enemies who would gladly unite against them.”

She leaves the Chamber, lighting the joint with a snap of her fingers, before she manifests atop the roof of the building in a flood of black smoke. Faeryel takes a drag.

“They skulk in the shadows. They leave threatening little messages. They rub their hands together inside of their hidden crevices, thinking themselves terrible and powerful. And then, time and time again, they throw themselves against us, and they are broken.”

She exhales the grass-smoke, before a sword explodes into existence in her hand. She aims it skyward, the joint clenched in her teeth.

“They’ve gotten overconfident again. We’ll put them in their place.”

Silhouetted against the ash-choked sky, burning violet tinged with black, hover eleven enormous flame-hewn letters.
