  1. Running of the Bulls

    Spoiler

As the descendants of Krug landed once more upon the sandy shores of Arcas, the ancient cries of forgotten beasts could be faintly heard as the horde of tusked figures marched back to their fortress home. Many things were on the mind of Skorkon, the journey he took to old lands forever changing him. But that day two old world relics were brought to Arcas kicking and screaming; with the help of trusted friends of course.

Ugluk; the ancestor for which roughly a third of the Gorkil clan could trace its roots. It is this bloodline which accounts for the most skilled of it’s warriors, and the most bloodthirsty of it’s berserkers. It is within this bloodline to which an intense passion for bloodlust is unmatched even among their Gorkil brethren, who consistently suppress their urges. To be descended from Ugluk is to be rage personified, a glorious totem to savagery and violence. Only one thing could herald their rebirth; the Ugluk bulls. A breeding pair were extracted from the sparse fields of old Krugmar, from the wild herds which had been grazing there for centuries; undisturbed. Two young calves were brought back, ready to be bred once they become adults.

Invigorated with passion and idealistic vigor, Skorkon’Gorkil, successor to the Ugluk bloodline and Dominus to the Rex, approached his wargoth with a challenge. Not to press any demands, but to simply test his willpower. Inevitably, Skorkon lost his duel with the famed Targoth, but was not left alone. After a long chat Korgahk agreed to allow Skorkon greater freedom, a chance to truly test his newfound pride and ambitions. His ideals could live on.

    DA RAGIN’ HORNZ WARBAND

Da Ragin’ Hornz Warband was formed in response to a perceived lack of growth within the Gorkil Clan and within Krugmar in general. Their ultimate aim is ultimately to purge weakness and dishonor through general conflict; ranging from friendly klomps to torture in the case of outsiders. Their philosophy is known to them as ‘Da Dub Hornz’, representing the two pillars of their struggle, strength and growth. Strength, the sharp horn, refers to the individual’s quest for greatness. Growth, the long horn, refers to the individual’s ability to aid others on their quest. The idea is that both are directly linked through conflict and by butting heads with others you not only improve yourself but them as well. This extends to most aspects of life and even beyond the confines of the Goi, oftentimes going out on violence-fueled pilgrimages to enact this same philosophy upon the weaker races, killing the weak and antagonizing the strong.

As inheritors of the Ugluk Clan’s legacy, Da Ragin’ Hornz continue their own customs and traditions from eras long past, including their own trials and initiation rituals. The integral variable to these customs would be the Ugluk Bull; being their main source of leather, meat, and transportation. One such tradition is known as the Zmokin’ Bezzie, a celebration following a major battle or occasion in which the weakest bull of the herd is fed large amounts of cactus and then painted green before being roasted alive in a pit with all of the warband’s members watching. Not a single piece of the creature is wasted as the uruks get high off of the bull’s rich meat.

The trials for entering the warband are quite different to those one might expect out of joining a clan, requiring a decent amount of intelligence and brute strength to accomplish. To begin, the hopeful is handed a small calf which he must raise and feed until reaching maturity. The calf must be taken with the hopeful uruk to each of their dangerous trials, with the calf’s death marking the uruk with deep failure, their head and face painted white to symbolize this shame. First, the uruk must capture a dark creature and sacrifice them to the bronze boar, ranging from practitioners of dark magic to undead constructs. This trial both serves to represent their continued loyalties to Clan Gorkil and to express the warband’s hatred for the supreme weakness, dark magic. Once this trial has been passed the hopeful member must earn their horns, venturing out alone into the wilderness for seven days to hunt and bring back game to the Warboss. If the Warboss deems that the game is inadequate, the uruk will be allowed one more chance at the hunt. The game captured during the trial will be used for a great feast, inviting all uruks of the Uzg. This is used to represent the ultimate aim of the warband, the betterment of the orcs of Krugmar. Finally, after caring for their calf until maturity, the hopeful will be given the chance to mount it. However, they will only be allowed to be kicked off of their bull one time before being eliminated. This trial is to test the uruk’s moral character, as if they have properly cared for and fed their bull, it will have already bonded to them.

Upon making it through the trial, the orc will be scarred once more, this time with a red-hot brand to symbolize their entry into the warband.

In times of war, Da Ragin’ Hornz will always answer the call of either the Gorkil Wargoth or the Rex of Krugmar. In these times, the warband takes on the role of elite shock cavalry, smashing into the enemy’s frontlines with their massive bulls. The Warband’s main weapons usually include axes of all sorts, however large hammers or other Gorkil weapons are not uncommon. The Ugluk warcry used by this warband are in fact not cries at all, but instead the sound of specialized horns carried into battle by each warrior. These horns were created for the express purpose of mimicking the cry of an enraged bull, stacking onto the noises of their own bulls to degrade the morale of the enemy army.

The signature mount of the warband, the Ugluk Bull, has long been considered an endangered breed ever since the rapid decline of their clan after Vailor and their genocide by the Braduks in years prior. Despite this, the breed has been known to be particularly aggressive and strong. On average, the bulls average at about 220 cm in height with massive muscles being a prominent feature of the beasts. Socially, they are known to recognize sickly or weak newborn calves, leaving them to die as the herd continues on without them. Due to this, the breed is fully capable of surviving on their own in the wild without intervention by orcs, selectively breeding their own herds to achieve the strongest and largest offspring.

OOC: If you’re interested on joining the warband, give me a dm. Vilebranches#8810. However, atleast for now the group will be Gorkils only.

  2.      Skorkon’Gorkil, Dominus to the Rexdom, was one of the few to converse with old Gahk-eyez as he preached upon his pedestal. As mad and delusional as the three-eyed orc seemed, deep down Skorkon knew there had to be truth in his words. But perhaps Armageddon could be avoided, the spirits he so desperately revered could be preserved for another millennia. With a strengthened resolve the elder gathered his arms and armor and set out to do battle against the Tear alongside the rest of the Descendants. If he empowered the spirits and did nothing to anger the Pantheon, his kin would continue to thrive. But first, he had to put an end to these foul magics which corrupted his Uzg.

“Da end iz nigh? Nub, da end’z end iz nigh.”

News of the iron chamber which lay beneath the rubble and steel skeleton of the museum spread quickly among the violent tribesmen; tales ranging from trapped demons to entombed riches were told often to assuage their intense fear of the unknown. Yet the holiest of the tribe remained fascinated by his find, scribes and shamans clamored to catch a glimpse of the antique shape. An item of intense religious value due to it’s age and wisdom.

Back at the Phoenix Garden, Feenix prepares his raiding party for it’s second major expedition. His group will depart from the gardens to head further north, exploring the unknown land and scavenging for gifts from the stone trees.

The Stone-Father stared out upon a crumbling mausoleum to the spirits of old America, a site of once wondrous mystical power now reduced to pebbles by the Great Event. It’s massive domed roof was split open like an ancient skull, allowing a great swathe of light to enter the forbidden stronghold. His visions were always correct, or so he believed. There was something ancient dwelling within, something blessed by the Relic itself.

He looked about to see a spattering of newly set-up tents and abodes, complete with scavenged furniture and hastily-made wooden walls. The people he had inherited from Wohali were truly beginning to thrive in these new lands, adapting to the strange new gods which looked down on them atop pillars of concrete. He looked up at one of the stone trees once and could have sworn he saw something move at it’s crown, perhaps just a figment of his overactive imagination or perhaps a sign from the Relic.

He nodded once to the men entrusted to him by Feenix and marched up the steps towards the crypt, his Speaker at his side yelling out words of encouragement to the high-energy raiders.

    Stone-Father ‘Red-Eagle’ in ceremonial garb.

The tribe’s Stone-Father stood at the center of the of the massive gathering, beside the raging bonfire which lit up the night with yellow sparks. Red-Eagle was Feenix’s first choice to replace their old shaman, a Tree-Father by the name of Wohali, who was thrown from the top of one of the taller stone trees. His shrieks affirmed his suspicions of Wohali being a traitor to the tribe, and so he was replaced. Feenix knew Red-Eagle would never fear judgement from the trees, for Red-Eagle had vowed himself to silence.

The wizened shaman danced around the fire as the fire danced in-turn, smoke billowing up and out to different directions. Until finally, Red-Eagle’s dance was finished and plumes of black smoke blew northward. Feenix rose from the crowd, a great commanding voice echoing forth, “The Spirits have decided, and so it shall be. To the North lay the greatest of the stone trees, objects of immeasurable spiritual value. Once we gain the favor of these greatest of trees, we may conquer and pillage all that we meet.” The headman gives an affirming nod before continuing, “For those whose legs already ache in anticipation, come. Come and claim the lands which the Relic gives to you.”

‘Relic’ after her introduction during the World’s Columbian Exposition.

As the Stone-Faces wound down into their new surroundings, it was clear to most that the spirits had relented in their fury. Headman Feenix had seen his people fight through hordes of afflicted abominations, seen them curl up and expire from dehydration, or simply up and die from exhaustion. Yet when he saw on the horizon the splendor of the old park’s ruins, his faith was returned anew. At the top of the hill, brilliant golden light reflected off of her gilded carapace, the weathered words of her pedestal read, ‘The Re---lic’. A god of retribution truly did exist, and her name was ‘Relic’, an idol of the Old World preserved to protect his people from despair.

Feenix would clamber about his muddied home, helping construct the many lodgings of his tribe. Before long, the large mud plains were covered in many dwellings and it was clear enough that this land was occupied. After the preparations were finished, he had Red-Eagle take a small force of scouts north to examine the old world ruins which lay nearby. The mysterious domed building drew his curiosity ever since they had settled there, and it loomed forebodingly over his personal lodge on Wooded Island.

  8. Application:

    Faction Name:

    The Stone-Faces

    Civilization Type:

    Tribals

    Faction Backstory:

The Stone-Faces trace their origins back to a group of tribal raiders from the Ozarks, who hunted and stalked their native lands for centuries before angering their forest and being forced North by bark-skinned demons, according to oral tradition. The journey was long and arduous, and many of their traditions were lost in the process, but when they finally arrived in Chicago their tribal identity underwent a drastic transformation.

In the Ozarks, the Stone-Faces were often mistaken for vengeful spirits by their rival tribes due to their bark-colored camouflage, and the tribe would often use this to their advantage in combat. So, when they discovered Chicago and it was decided that the massive spires of cement would become their new hunting grounds, the tribe’s Headman symbolically caked his face in ash and dust. The tribe would abandon the spirits of the trees and instead pay respect to the spirits of the city.

For the following years, the Stone-Faces scoured the crumbling town for food and prey, mercilessly and efficiently striking down most scavengers and expeditionary forces they faced. The tribe eventually settled in the old ruins of Jackson Park, with many fearful scavengers learning to avoid the area out of fear for their lives. The ruthless guerrilla tactics of the tribe proved more than useful, yet it was clear as the years winded by that larger and more powerful tribes were being drawn to their new lands. Only time will tell if the Stone-Faces’ faith in their stone trees will be enough to repel the foreign devils.

  9. I like the idea of compressing the dark magic constructs into one single creature; as pale knights, dread knights, and dark stalkers were pretty similar in their previous forms. However, I'm not entirely sure that it makes sense for these three completely different magics to create the same end result of a construct.

  10. lordy lordy. lore guys ought to stop gimping lore for the sole reason of 'people will abuse it'. honestly i'll +1 anything if it means getting a chance to experience creatures/magic which i otherwise took for granted. don't really get the hateboners for DK's, all of my interactions with them in the past were positive.

She knew that Exitius would never stop with but a single attack on her belongings. Nothing would sate him, no deals or exchange could ever possibly slow down his offensive. This was what enraged her, Exitius’ constant and never ending tantrums. The idea that she could possibly have been created by the same ever-present Over-God that had created him was simply baffling to her.

Then an idea came to the Ruby Lady.

What better way to mock such an eyesore of a sibling, than to belittle the very object of his patronage. If war and bloodshed is something to which her current pest was fond of, then she would present her own vision for warfare. One of primal instincts and natural aptitude. She knew, the art of killing was one that was intended for predators. When she designed the natural cycle, she knew that to shed blood would be to worship her and to consume another soul is to partake in her gifts.

She bore the Nacatl into existence in the far-expanses of the southern continent; and there they would hunt, kill, and feed in her name. An eternal hunt perpetrated by the most naturally gifted of her creations, and from her gifts they would take that hunt to every corner of the World-Sphere.

Vu’u stations himself within the Grand Ziggurat of Carda, tasked only with supplying Mamo with a small amount of his power and with ensuring the city and it’s people remain safe should Mamo fail to protect Carda from potential Venandi offensives. However, Vu’u would only intervene if the Dragonslayer were to meet his end.

    [10 AP] – Create Race

The Ruby Lady creates what will likely be her last sentient creation; The Nacatl. These carnivorous creatures would be created to be astoundingly adaptable creations, capable of bearing children perfectly suited to whichever environment they currently inhabit within a single generation. Psychologically, the creatures are often aptly suited to ambush tactics, taking down far larger prey on cunning and guile alone as they stalk the western reaches of the far-southern continent.

Soon the Ruby Goddess would have an influx of the damned and lost flood into her realm. Those who died in defense of her will would have to live side-by-side with those that killed their brethren in the coming bloodshed. Perhaps these ‘Venandi’ truly weren’t lost to her guidance, but at this moment none of that mattered. The children of Exitius were gathering and soon, whether it was this year or thousands in the future, they would come for her creations.

This game was not something she could find palatable. No, she would break it before they ever reached Holy Carda. In battle, there are those who fight with intelligence and those who fight with experience. Truthfully, she found both to be of equal tact, however to fight openly without either was something she found so repulsive that she could not dare to describe.

She looked through her ruby hand to be greeted with the face of her Avatar on the World Sphere, were it possible she would have smiled in greeting to her friend. Sure he was bound to her, but he was still as good company as any other. “Vu’u. I’m glad you could come. I have a task for you, good friend. To the south one can find the spawn of the war-hungry Exitius. You will temper the blade of my creations. The Nyren shall prepare their defenses and train in the arts of archery, while the Pati shall be organized as to their strengths; numbers.”

Although this would not be all, for Kaha treated her followers like her very children. Carda was her gem to those who suffered in squalor and filth, and she would not allow it to fall so easily. Out of those who devoted themselves to her worship in the Ziggurat, she chose one man. He was no priest or almoner, but instead a simple curate, an assistant. Mamo was his name.

To this ordinary man, Kaha gave purpose and unfathomable power. He was no longer bound by his flesh, instead his ichor dissipated from his corpse and materialized into the world. He was to become her holy defender, her motherly protection manifest. If Exitius were to send his dragons to face her, then Kaha would have to provide the dragonslayer in response.

    [4 AP] – Command Avatar

Vu’u teaches the Pati and Nyren useful military tactics, organizing Pati into large, loosely organized hordes and teaching the Nyren the usefulness of defenses and ranged combat. Uncountable forts are to be commissioned and garrisoned in the areas surrounding Carda by the Nyren, while Pati are instructed to spend the following years to focus on building up their numbers and performing guerrilla drills in the countryside.

    [8 AP] – Create God-Touched

Kaha gives untold power to a curate by the name of Mamo. To him she would give javelins of ichor to pierce a dragon’s hide and powers over blood itself to do with as he pleased. He would be her ultimate defender and with him she would give her protection. With this he would be driven by only one purpose, to protect his home and those he loves.

Vu’u is once more sent off to meet with the Nyren of the River, aiding them in the construction of the first city to grace the mortal realm. The city would be constructed along the banks of the massive river, hundreds of dwellings and shops to propagate the fledgling society. The first marvel being the city’s massive stone walls, reaching 30 feet high and depicting engravings of epic quests and battles of their ancestors. The second and indeed the most defined landmark of the city would be a massive ziggurat in the center of the river which would serve as both a crypt and as a religious/political center, bearing massive likenesses of Vu’u and Kaha-Nu-Buhu.

Vu’u made the trek through the cold swamps which laid to the North of the Nyren. The starved screeches of the primal beings echoed through the skies, and as they looked upon him they flew to their trees in fear. As he made his way to a clearing, a large and somewhat muscular form flew to the ground, standing straight in-front of the titanic beast.

“Pati of the Swamp, I commend you for your bravery. On this day I speak to you as an emissary of your architect, Kaha-Nu-Buhu. You have attacked her most devout of followers, the creatures of the river. This is a great slight upon the Crimson Lady.” Vu’u continues, miraculously speaking their garbled and primitive language. “She is a gracious God however, as she is willing to forgive this transgression.”

The sky suddenly darkened as the Sun quickly darted behind the horizon and Vula-Marama came to a halt in the sky. Several pairs of glowing eyes within the treeline came hurtling towards the ground, their bodies slowly bloating and their screams slowly becoming more muffled as they safely bounced upon the ground. Strangely, the Pati left in the sky also came flying towards the ground as they sank their fangs into the supple flesh of the Pati-Sulu. “This is her gift to the Pati. Protect the Nyren from outside forces and you shall never hunger a day in your life.”

Then, a weapon of great power descended from the night sky and rested upright at the Pati warrior’s feet. It seemed be made of bronze, but at the same time emanated an intense red glow. The warrior stepped forth and rested his hands upon the weapon, looking up to the immense lion hesitantly. “You may take it. This is my gift to you, good warrior. Pass it along to those worthy, and allow it to aid you in your goals. Conquer, Adapt, Thrive. But never harm those whom the Guiding Light deemed worthy to praise her.”

Their wings would become useless as their bodies fill with ichor, weighing them down immensely as they overflow with blood. They would become blood bags to be consumed by their kin, still denied entrance to the afterlife despite the presence of souls.

    [4 AP] – Command Avatar

Kaha-Nu-Buhu sends Vu’u to journey to the swamp lands. There he would call out to the fleeting, bat-like forms. He would tell them to protect the nearby Nyren of the River, for they were chosen by the patron of these lands and creator of the Pati, Kaha-Nu-Buhu.

    [6 AP] – Create Artifact

Kaha-Nu-Buhu grants a spear of immeasurable strength, Masina-I-Le-Lagi, to the strongest of the Pati. The spear would imbue it’s wielder with the ability to see any opponent’s weaknesses, physical or mental, and give them the means to exploit it. Not only this, any this, but any creatures killed with the spear would have their soul imbued into the wielder to further enhance their strength.

Sinewy wings and gnarled faces rose into the sky as Kaha-Nu-Buhu created her first true children. The Pati, the Red Lady’s children, resemble large bat-like humanoids over eight feet in height and thirteen feet in wingspan. Largely carnivorous, the Pati scour the swamps in search of prey of any size. The hold a voracious appetite and their bite is especially potent, injecting a paralyzing venom into their prey’s blood stream before using their specialized fangs to suck up vast amounts of soul ichor from their prey. Interestingly, the Pati almost never kill their prey and instead leave them alive for future feedings.

Although largely solitary, the Pati have been known to form small hunting groups to increase their effectiveness in feeding, and this effectiveness would logically lead them to create larger settlements. The Pati, having been born from the Goddess of Souls, strangely are lacking in the soul ichor that they feast upon, despite all other sentient races having an over-abundance of the substance. Due to this lacking in ichor, the Pati would be nearly invisible to the hunger of larger predators.

    [10 AP] – Create Race

Kaha-Nu-Buhu spawns the Pati into the World Sphere. The strange, bat-like race would inhabit the swamps of the largest continent. The race would be inherently hostile due to their nature, carefully flying between trees and capturing their prey to feed upon at a later time.
