I think in the right hands it could be a very good role play tool. But ill read that post, it seems that everyone agrees the community is extremely toxic with the magic
That's what I think should happen personally, id like to see it removed and rewritten in a different fashion, perhaps in a way that disables players from abusing it an acting how they've been with their power
I'd also like to mention that I do agree about the OOC toxicity, and not just from the ascended. You can't generalize an entire group for something a few people have done, like how you mentioned with Z3mos. There has been some toxicity towards a select few ascended. In fact, about a month ago one of my closest friends had done a few unsatisfactory things as a staff member involving a specific nation, and he was basically bullied into quitting the server by this nation. Yes he did make a few mistakes, though I personally believe that it can go to show how overly toxic people can be towards other people. Not to mention that someone I know has allegedly admitted to attempting to bully the ascended off the server or into non-existance (not saying this is true, it's only what I heard from a friend).
We need to consider the other side of the story here, is what I'm saying. We shouldn't completely remove an entire magic because a few people have been toxic or used it wrong, instead should work on how to fix that problem. Maybe someone such as an LT could contact some of the remaining ascended leaders and have a chat with them, I don't know. It's all just my opinion though.0 -
The entire ascended order itself has split apart. I believe a lot of their leaders either quit or disconnected or something. In my opinion, a total re-write of the lore is necessary if the magic isn't shelved.

Cyrene looks over the notice carefully. "Nesrine, a trouble-maker in the Dominion as well... Next time I see her, her head will be mine."

This sounds interesting. Maybe I'll try this at, like, 3am so I don't get robbed ?

I would love to play these creatures. They're interesting and sound p dope. Just because theres "too many creatures" doesn't mean new ones cant be added.

"You best figure out how to correctly write the name. It's Virarim, not 'Virriam'" Retorts Cyrene from the Sutican Tavern.

5 days of cooldown for a few minutes of pvp? Seems a tad excessive imo.

For a minecraft roleplay server, this is serious ****. If it's bait, which I hope it is, sad to say that a lot of this stuff is actually true. There have been IRL criminals on Lotc who still aren't banned.

0Done. Hopefully two more will suffice. If not, I can definitely see what else I can do.

This is quite a big weakness considering the ET. Having to constantly adjust to players and you will butt heads with people, that is guaranteed. Definitely make sure you find a way to work past this or you'll have no chance at being able to develop decent events without compromising them through emotional backlash.
Otherwise, see if you can try to do a write-up on something that isn't a combat orientated/monster event. Isolating yourself to just monsters will not allow you to develop well, it's a great place to start but try to maybe go out of your comfort zone and throw a suggestion out with your event ideas. Never being an ET, perhaps you'll have a knack for ideas that you never thought you had before looking at this application.
Good luck, wasn't actually too terrible.
0Got it. Should I do this in a separate post, or how exactly should I present a different event idea?

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I hope puppeteers don't literally have control over someone. That is powergaming to a max, even if it is a curse or spell or whatever :(

Have you ever held a staff position before?
No.
Have you ever been banned before?
Once for five minutes when I was twelve when I made a rape joke. That was three or four years back. Have mercy.
What style of events do you feel you enjoy creating?
I feel like I'd enjoy playing different types of creatures, whether it be a poisonous basilisk, bokolo, dragon, etc. I'm sure I can pull off some different type of event if I put my mind to it, but at the moment this is probably what I'd be most comfortable with if I get accepted (which I'm honestly not expecting). Of course I'd love to expand from this list in the future.
List three factors you feel play a part in quality event and expand upon them
First, I feel that the enjoyment of the players and/or participants is an important factor. If players don't enjoy events, then it reflects poorly on the event team. I want to be able to provide fun and enjoyable events for every group on LotC.
Second, the creativity of the event. Nobody wants to be in a cliche, boring event. I know I wouldn't. I'd try my best to put my imagination to the test and put my full effort into the events and make them as unique and diverse as possible.
Third, the enjoyment of the event host. It goes hand in hand, in my opinion. Both the players and ET should enjoy the event, otherwise it becomes stale.Which member(s) of the team would you attempt to emulate, and why?
ScreamingDingo. I don't know him too well personally, but I admire the events he hosts (even if I didn't play a significant role in them). I want to get to where he is.
Provide three event scenarios of the styles you listed above
The Fog Speaks
The smell of rotting flesh and decay made the poor soldier's eyes water in disgust. He looked around the field, his orbs wandering from each of his fallen comrade to another. Bodies. Nothing but bodies scattered the fields, even hiding behind the hills in the distance. The environment was grim and only made the veteran want to turn away, though something nagged at the back of his mind and made him want to look through the mass of corpses. Some faces he recognized, some he didn't.
As he moved along quietly, with a raid chin and straight spine, he noticed something in the distance. A thick fog that stretched over the hillsides, only making the area more eerie than it already was. However, he took it as nothing, only as something naturally occurring. He trudged along, careful not to step on any hands or heads. Before he knew it, he was suddenly standing before this fog, as if it had came to him. Staring in awe, he looked into the fog in curiosity, where it was then he noticed a shimmering green light. It was oddly alluring, as if something was urging him into the fog.
He was susceptible to such a calling, and the bodies around him didn't help his case. Taking a few cautious steps forth, he soon found himself within this fog. All was quiet, as if this strange occurrence acted as a barrier from everything outside. The shining green light had ceased by now, and the soldier was left to nothing but himself, bodies at his feet, and the fog he wandered through.
He had been walking for hours. Did this not ever come to an end? At this point, he thought he might have been hearing or even seeing things. Shadows and dark figures occasionally appeared in the corner of his eye, though disappeared when he attempted to catch a good look. It was just his mind, nothing more nothing less. Well, that's what he had believed until he had been met with a hulking figure, nearly seven feet tall. It wore dark robes, and its skin was wrinkled and decayed around the mouth. A green gem pulsed in its chest. Stumbling backwards, his foot was caught on the neck of a fallen soldier before he landed with a loud thud. This creature lunged out for him. He screamed and crossed his arms over his face, before there was silence.
An ear shattering scream was heard from the fog. A pair of adventurers turned towards the cry, then giving a fearsome look towards one another. The Predator and the Prey
The fearless warriors crept through the field, firmly grasping the handles of their blades with focused eyes. The dry grass crunched beneath their feet, despite their efforts to remain quiet. The sun was cut over the horizon, casting beautiful rays of light over the sky and gave it a reddish-orange tint. A rustling was heard from nearby, in which the lead of the group raised a hand in signal for his comrades to stop.
The noise continued, followed by a few snorts and huffs. They had found the mighty beast, though that was the easy part.
The group exchanged a few whispers between each other before they moved back to back in a circle formation, blades and weapons pointed outwards. They simply stood in silence, watching for any movement at all from the grass that went well over their heads. Moments later, an obnoxious screech was heard before thudding was heard, the boar charging towards them at a rapid pace. The boar had flanked the group, thrashing its head and spiked tusks to and fro. They had lost formation for a few moments, the tall grass not helping their situation at all. It only caused distortion. Perhaps this is why the boar roamed these lands.
After many slices and thrusts, the boar retreated back into the safety of the grass. A few had received minor scratches and bruises, though nothing fatal. They attempted to quickly reform the circle, though they were struck once more in the process. A man on the right had been impaled in the side by the tusk before the blink of an eye, where he was harshly tugged and thrown about like a rag doll for a few moments before flying off, landing a few feet away from the group. They were now the prey, and the boar was the true hunter. One by one, the boar had eventually eliminated the group of five, with blood covered tusks and coat of fur. Corpses laid scattered about the area, which flattened the tall grass.
However, what this beast did not know is that his work wasn't quite finished. Hanging on by just a hair, a single hunter remained, covered in blood and barely alive. Perhaps he would live to tell the tale, perhaps not.
Blob
A crowd had congregated around this large mass of... slime, which bounced and flopped about in the main square! People watched in awe and curiosity, younger children begging their parents to get a closer look and play with the strange creature, though perhaps it was a good idea if they didn't...
Upon further inspection, some might find that anything to enter this creature's slimey mass would be absorbed and broken down into millions of pieces, akin to acid. Ouch! This creature rolled about the place as it pleased, leaving a gooey trail in its path. A small trip of city guards had gathered as to prevent bystanders from being harmed. A bystander had tossed a small loaf of bread before the slimey creature, which was quickly devoured within it!
A few citizens had attempted to speak to it, mostly children.
"HellOOOO?" a tiny girl called, waving her hands before the creature before she was tugged away by her mother
A boy giggled as he attempted to scramble over to the creature. "What are you? Do you talk?"
The blob gave a little squeak sound before continuing on its way.
It would be wise to rid the city of such creature before someone got hurt. At this, the guardsmen had brought over a long wooden board. They'd attempt to slide it underneath the creature, in which it, once more, began to dissolve the object. Moving quickly, the guards quickly threw the slime over the walls. It landed with a loud splat, before bouncing back into shape like rubber. It moved along its way after some time.
What an odd creature...
The Riddle Master
A hunch backed old man hobbled into the city, holding a variety of items in a large crate. He looked around from person to person with a wrinkled smile. Soon, making his way over to a raised platform. He cleared his throat, and spoke as loudly as he could.
“Greetings, greetings!” he began happily, “Gather around, citizens. I’ve something for you each, a prize!”
A crowd soon gathered around where he stood, looking up at him in curiosity and with wide eyes. The old man nodded a bit, mumbling a series of what seemed to be riddles to himself as he shuffled around within the crate. Soon, he withdrew a few objects. One of them was a small wooden box with intricately carved designs on each side. The other would be a glass wind-chime which was stained a beautiful color with light that casted onto the ground in a rainbow. It sang a beautiful melody.
“Should anybody solve my riddles, you will take a prize of your choice home. Fail to, and-- well, you receive nothing but the feeling of failure!”People gave ‘ooohs’ and ‘ahhhs’ at the prizes, murmuring amongst themselves for a few moments before nodding. The old man started with his first riddle. “What has a neck but no head?”
They seemed to think, speaking to those besides them in thought. People began to blurt out random answers. However, after quite a few guesses, the answer was hollered out amongst the shouting. “A bottle!”
“Very good! Step forth and receive a prize should you choose!” the old man called out to the crowd, extending the crate of wondrous items. The one who hollered the answer was a human in his thirties. He reached into the box, carefully picking out a small wooden frog with a stick. If rubbed down the bumpy spine, it made a toad croaking sound.
This went on for a long while, before the box was soon empty and most had won a prize from the old man, who, finding that his work was done, slowly made his way out of the city, ready to move elsewhere. Why do you wish to become an Event Team Actor?
I want to become an ET Actor so I can interact and get more involved with the LotC community. I want to have fun with players by more than just roleplaying with them-- I want to provide fun events that will cater to many different groups and people.
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
I consider myself to be flexible in a lot of situations, good or bad, trying to work with what I have and think of some creative way to move past any present issues. Another note, I try to consider the POV of other people and put myself into their shoes, no matter who it is. As for my weaknesses, I can get bothered by a lot of little things, and it bothers me for an extended amount of time. There've been plenty (personal) examples of this in my time playing on LotC, though as I stated, I find a way to work past it.
How much time could you give this position in the foreseeable future?
I want to put as much time into being an ET as possible, while maintaining a fair amount of RP time on my main persona as well. On weekdays, I'm available from 3:30 PM CST - 9:45 PM CST. On weekends, I'm typically available most of Friday, and all of Saturday and Sunday when I'm not busy.

[Completed][Completed] Yay or Nay to Ascended Magic?
in Completed Debate
Posted · Edited by Unwillingly
Ascended aren't immortal. They can be killed by any major wound just like any other descendant. In this case, I believe their 'immortality' is just not dying at a certain age. In fact, I saw an ascended die to an axe to the back of the head. I'm not an ascended expert, though I'm just stating what I know.
About the body burning, the loot stays behind. Once again, I saw this specific ascended get the few items he had on him taken via /search.
They are immune to all potions, healing as well. Not just poison.
And as for the bullying, I don't believe you were there to see exactly what happened before this staff member left, but I was. "you did a **** job," or "get your **** together" is not criticism. That is just being an *******. There was no attempt at all to give some advice or constructive criticism. It was mainly just name calling and making fun of them. I was literally in a voice chat with these people when it happened, furthermore proving my point that everybody, not just the ascended, are toxic.
(Also, no harsh feelings, Chon. Just trying to give my opinion about the topic.)
