Over the course of the few months, I, Savonius, and a few others have taken time out of our lives to venture out into the vast wilderness. Within this wilderness, we’ve encountered many ruins, large geographical features, and many man-made things from a long while ago that have forced us to think these things: Who made them? When? How.. With time we will find out the answers to the questions, but for now all we are able to do is theorize. And theorize we will, for the information from these expeditions have given us many clues as to who, or what, has inhabited this mysterious land of Atlas.
Our first journey was North up the river to a bridge which we stopped at to view a ruin. With time and age, this once-elegant building had decayed into a crumbled shadow of its previous form. Moss littered the cracks of the cobblestone, and bones scattered throughout this home. A low wall surrounded it, with a gravel path leading to nowhere. Remember the bones, for they are important for future theories.
After going in the opposite direction from the bridge, we travelled down south to the supposed “wall”. At first, I and my company were baffled by a large ice wall, until we saw the huge stone one. Upon later expeditions and inspection, I found that it was part of a larger wall, with the opposite wall holding two large statues, almost “guarding” the inside. It’s not easy to find out exactly what they were, or even who, for they have decayed too much to even comprehend their race, let alone their face. Within this buried-under-snow city or fortress, I discovered a tall tower, whose upstairs was not accessible to us. Fortunately, we had a lich with us at the moment, who was able to read the gravestone text. He claimed that it was difficult to translate, but he believes that it said “Fortress Light - Home of the Northern Humans”, which is confusing because this is southern Atlas, unless the humans lived in the north and decided to build a fort within the snow. There’s also the possibility that there is more to Atlas than we have thought before (I will get to that in a moment). And then, maybe there were undead below the humans even further down south, and they just referred to the humans as “Northerners”.
Soon enough after scouting the area, we decided to climb onto the wall. Skeletons and skulls littered the platforms on the wall, which was covered in snow and moss. More on this later. Upon entering, the area was barely lit and nearly pitch black. That made it even harder to spot the large hole on the ground, leading to a deep cavern. The cavern walls were surprisingly smooth, which led me to believe that it was not a cavern, but instead a long tunnel leading to a larger room. We decided to jump in, and upon entering we managed to make out a lit fire in the distance, enough to create an eerie red glow in the entire building, just enough to light our way. There was a large whole in between us and what looked like a throne room. More on the hole soon. I decided to take my chances and leaped across the hole. Surely I would not make it. Surely I would jump and hit my head, falling to my death into a pit full of the undead. But no, I didn’t fall to my death. Instead, I flew like a feather onto the dusty floor of the throne room. It was like seeing the Adelburg throne room, except you looked at it through a dusty, cracked mirror that was tinged a strange grey. And there it was, a small fire. It was still lit, still burning with embers bursting into the eerily stuffy air that had been cut off from all oxygen a long time ago. Sparks flew in my face as one of the debris that was lit crumbled from the weakness of the object. I turned to my right to see a large throne, the color of a cocoa bean, or the darkened tint of parchment paper. The others behind me were too afraid to make the jump, afraid to fall to their certain deaths. So I climbed back over, and we made our way back up.
After this, we came upon a ruin that looked quite strange. Sounded. It sounded quite strange. We heard fire crackling from within, from behind a large wooden wall the was held in place by, once again, mossy cobblestone that was crackling from the age. There was no getting through anytime soon, so we continued south to look for this supposed “wall”. There was no telling if this rumor was true, but it was worth it to try. And then we saw it. A large wall. It seemed to touch the heavens with millions of tiny ice fingers reaching. I exhaled, a large puff of a tiny cloud leaving my mouth to just disintegrate as it moved closer to the wall. After seeing this, we supposed that it would be time to return home and report to His Majesty.
First, we shall touch on the first portions of the journey. We encountered many ruins first. Human, elven, orcish. Now, the thing that I’m worried about is who this is. Of course there are other people in our world, but an undocumented civilization that went right over our heads? Insanity. Especially those that existed just like us. But how did they exist just like us if they’ve never met us? Exactly. When we acquire more clues, I will develop this theory further.
Secondly, we have this city or some kind of fortress. The reason why I say city is because there are walls parallel to each other, with a large entrance with two statues at the front in one, and there is a throne room at the lower portion. It may even belong to the undead, or some ancient form of humans. The reason why there are walls missing on both sides is because of a possible natural disaster from the snow on the mountains. Avalanches are quite common in areas with mountains, and are common tools of destruction.
On the idea of who or what is beyond the wall, well I have some suggestions. Either Aegis, an old realm from a while ago. Either that, or the undead. Or even those that we seek, the old inhabitants of this land that were driven out. By what? Who knows. As we venture out into the world and discover more, we will be able to explain more.
On the topic of all the dead bodies, long since decayed and became leftover skeletons and skulls, I have a theory on why all are just.. There. One theory is connected to the avalanche. But then again, why would all of them not be buried under tons of frozen wasteland? Another is that they were massacred by the undead, but where are the signs of the undead being there other than the gravestone with the undead language? Many questions, and too little clues to answer. More on this topic in part 2 when we go on our second year of exploring this new land of ours.

Tl;dr (sentence or 2 summary here) giant ice wall down south, says northerners but it’s in the south?? Lots of dead bodies.
