Roleplaying is taking on the role of a character in a fictional setting and acting as they would, usually for fun.
What is metagaming?:
Metagaming is using out-of-character knowledge to your in-character benefit: for instance, organizing a meeting with another player's character through Skype or Teamspeak.
What is power-emoting (powergaming)?:
Powergaming is acting on behalf of another person's character and forcing something to happen to them. For instance, saying "I swing my sword and cut off your arm!" is powergaming, where the correct thing to write is "I swing my sword at you, attempting to cut into your arm."

Biography:
A relatively young elf, Elena was born only a short few years before the migration of the high elves to Taliyna'maehr, and grew up knowing little other than the city. From a young age, she was a curious sort, and often dreamt of traveling the world, or at least the elven parts of it, and bringing back whatever knowledge those other cultures might hold. This slightly unorthodox interest in the outside world rather than in scientific truth worried her immediate family, but they were quickly relieved when in adolescence Elena found another, more traditional interest: the art of music. She took quickly to the harp, spending many an exhausting day plucking away at its strings to produce what eventually became quite beautiful melodies.
In adulthood, she used these talents to travel the continent, performing at galas and other events to spread a bit of proper mali'aheral culture to those sorely in need of it. At one point during this journey she traveled for a number of weeks with a group of clerics of Tahariae, who spread the word of the aengul and encouraged Elena to strive for perfection in her art. Although initially skeptical, she eventually adopted a sort of quiet reverence (if not quite worship) for the Aengul of Purity.
As the years passed, Elena grew somewhat homesick, and yearned to return to the company of her people. She set back on the road to her home city, hoping to be able to further expand upon her art (and perhaps take up another form of expression, or a scientific discipline) behind the walls of glorious Taliyna'maehr. Amusingly enough, almost immediately after arriving she was swept along on the exodus to Atlas, end destination unknown.
Personality Traits:
Elena is perhaps slightly cosmopolitan as high elves go, although this really only manifests as viewing the other races of the world with scientific interest rather than outright disdain. Observant and well-spoken, she dislikes conflict of the martial sort but has an eye for intrigues and schemes, both of which she delights in (as long as they don't hurt anyone too badly). She is a bit more forward than many mali'aheral, although when in unfamiliar or unexpected situations she falls back on traditional coldness and impersonality.
Ambitions:
Elena aspires to be the greatest musician among the high elves, and therefore the world.
Strengths/Talents:
Elena is a skilled musician and keen judge of character. She is well-spoken and somewhat charismatic, capable of being charming when she needs to.
Weaknesses/Inabilities:
Elena possesses essentially zero martial ability. She can at times display the traditional high-elven arrogance, and does view humans in particular more as slightly-interesting children than real people. She has been gone from her homelands for a solid couple of decades, a slightly unorthodox thing to do.
