Tilly would read over the missive with a raised eyebrow, and rolled her eyes as she tossed it into the fire. ”Typical youth, he thinks himself enlightened and believes he knows the hearts and minds of others better than they know themselves.” Tilly muttered, shaking her head as she carried on with her work.

Tilly would read over the document, her brow furrowed in deep thought. At last, she would turn to speak to her young daughter playing at her feet, “Trying to make friends with a bunch of violent snakes? It sounds... risky to say the least, but I suppose in the name of peace, and fighting back the destruction of our world as we know it, it might be worth a try. The canonists can’t be any worse than the inferi, I suppose.” The child would grin up at her, blissfully ignorant to the politics of it all, and Tilly would smile at last, patting her on the head, hoping only that they were paving the way for a better world for future generations.

Declaration of Holy War against the Infernal Host
RealHouseWaifu replied to AstriaS's topic in Kingdom of Norland
Tilly would read the missive, her heartbeat pounding in her ears. She had known it when she faced the demons and their massive, nearly unkillable hell hounds alongside the orcs, she had known it when the comets had come crashing down out of the sky in a fiery display that struck fear into her heart, and she had known in it in her heart when the sky had gone dark. In fact, her suspicions had begun years ago, though then they were no more than conspiracy theories. Yet now, it had been put into words that she read with her own eyes, and suddenly, somehow, it felt more real. The Long Dark was indeed upon them as she had once feared, now in earnest. Now, reading it on paper, she felt the weight of the reality settle onto her shoulders. If the wrong moves are made, if they should prove not to be strong enough in spirit and in body, this could prove to be the end of all life on Arcas. She stared a long time at the paper, a million horrors playing through her mind, before she raised her eyes to the fire before her. Slowly, methodically, she burned the letter, feeling hope as the fire consumed the parchment, and steeled her will. To her last breath, she would fight, and by the All Father’s will the Red Faith would prevail against this cataclysm. -
Tilly would hear the discussion begin to turn hostile, and approach with a patient smile behind her porcelain mask. “A terrible shame that there are still those who support the Keeper who has been confirmed to be a dark agent. The Paragon Vykk himself confirmed Amice to be 300 years old, far beyond a natural lifespan for a human. Not that you would have known, having absolutely nothing to do with the incident, so I will forgive you your ignorance. All other issues concerning the matter have been dealt with, and all concerns of corruption investigated properly. Perhaps we should be more responsible in throwing around accusations of being Agents of the Long Dark, girl, rather than throwing it carelessly at anyone we dislike, yes?”
-
Tilly would read the paper, her smile slowly dropping into a deep scowl. “Why are people so eager to make judgments on these issues before they’ve even heard the whole story?” Muttering under her breath, she seeks out her brother, bitterly wishing she had held onto that damned book.

The Nature of the Long Dark: An Essay By Tilly Faretto There are few of the Red Faith who will speak willingly of the Long Dark, and understandably so. It is an unpleasant subject, one wrought with fear and uncertainty. However, as we are tasked with standing against it, we must therefore strive to understand it to the greatest of our abilities. In times of darkness, the truth will be shrouded, and we must arm ourselves firstly with knowledge if we are to have any chance of success. It is by this thought process that I have been motivated to more thoroughly examine what little we know about the Long Dark, and it is through this examination that a disturbingly morbid notion has occurred to me. While I would normally write these thoughts off as the products of irrational thinking and paranoia, I feel it prudent to share these thoughts in order for us to come to perhaps a better understanding of the events expected to come. The third of three tenets, we are sworn to stand against the Long Dark. There is a great emphasis on fighting Agents of the Long Dark, but rarely is it discussed exactly what it is that we are all fighting to prevent. It is necessary first, as practically every document and text written regarding the Red Faith describes the Long Dark only in the vaguest of terms, to roughly discern a definition of the Long Dark. In my studies, I have only seen the Long Dark described directly on a few occasions. One such description serves to summarize all other such elucidations, found in a writ by Keeper Godric. In his writ “Summae Patrie”, the Long Dark is described as “that dreaded moment when the firmament fails and life on Terra is snuffed out forever.” And so the Long Dark would be established as being, in essence, the end of the world. While this is already commonly accepted, and assumed to be the case by any with a base understanding of the faith, I feel it completely necessary for this essay to have firstly established that the Long Dark is, for argument's sake, considered by the Faith to be the apocalypse. The Long Dark being accepted as being synonymous with the apocalypse becomes significantly more concerning when taking into account the world’s known history. While the histories of our previous homes becomes increasingly more difficult to track the farther back one attempts to look, there are accounts that at least three times that I have been able to discern thus far, the entire population of a continent has been forced to flee some imminent danger in search of a new, safer land to rebuild their home. From Vailor, they fled to Axios, then to Atlas, and finally, they fled to Arcas. Even then, they had to fight to clear out whatever of the Long Dark’s agents were already residing in their new territories. How long will it be before again we must flee? It seems unrealistically optimistic to assume that this continent will prove to be a permanent haven, where the others have fallen time and time again. Which leads to further questions; how vast is this world? Will we always have a new home to discover, or will we one day simply find ourselves stranded with nowhere left to turn to? It’s a dark, grim line of questioning for which we have no sure answers. We only know for certain that as far back as our history goes, we have been running from an overpowering evil. Having examined these facts, that the Long Dark is the end of the light, and thus the end of the World, and that we have been running from continent destroying calamities as far back as written history shows, a potentially devastating theory becomes a possibility; we are already living within the twilight of the Long Dark. We are not warriors of light seeking out and purging the rotting corruption which lurks in the shadows, rather we are but the last remaining refugees wielding a dying light, surrounded on all fronts and desperately trying to fend off an all consuming darkness. We have proven unable to purge the world of the Agents of the Long Dark, and now we find ourselves overwhelmed, fighting back with what little left of the light that still remains. We know not how long we have before Arcas falls, nor do we have any inclination as to where next we will find safety. For all we know, this could be our last stand against the Long Dark, if it is not already too late for us. Looking further, we must also consider the metaphysical nature of our All-Father. While it’s been universally agreed upon that he is not omnipotent nor is he omniscient, one must reflect upon the ways in which he is thought to aid us in this cause. The more commonly accepted theory is that the All-Father guides us in ways we ourselves don’t fully understand through a world that is already surrounded by darkness, as a candle in the dark. This depiction suggests what has already been said - that the darkness is already closing in around our throats like an umbral noose, and that our undoing isn’t a matter of if, but when. The other commonly acknowledged theory is that he himself is actively fighting the Long Dark on a much larger scale than we are, and that what we battle in our realm are simply the few who are able to slip past him as his attention is focused on substantially greater threats. Through the context of the previous assumptions, this poses a grave depiction. If the Long Dark has been suppressed by the will of the Father, and these cataclysmic events are to be considered relatively small and insignificant as compared to the true power of the Long Dark, then what will come to pass when the Father's might fails is truly a horror beyond our comprehension. While the possibility that the Long Dark has already begun is real, it is still unlikely, and this conjecture should not be taken for fact until we can know without doubt that all hope is lost. Should this prove to be the case, all may seem hopeless, but despair not. The All Father has tasked us with standing against the Long Dark, and that is exactly what we must do, regardless of whether or not we have any chance at victory. To the last man we will stand and spit in the eye of the agents of the Long Dark. To despair would be to fail, and if we are the last left standing against the impending Long Dark, then we cannot afford to be defeated so easily. We must harden our hearts, summon our courage, and fight to the last breath of the last man standing. Let their hands burn as they reach out to extinguish our flame, in the name of the All Father.

Character’s name: Serenla Character’s sex: female Character’s race: human Character’s age: 24 Biography: Serenla was born in 1620, and grew up in a city near the coast in the Orenian Empire in Axios, the only child of a poor family. As so many children, she was tomboyish and troublesome, though being poor she frequently took up the responsibilities of an adult to help her parents in their many times of need, donning a mask of practicality and rationality that made for a less fun playmate, giving her a lonely teenage life. By the time she was 15 her mother had fallen ill and died, and her father was injured in his work, leaving him unable to do many things for a great deal of time. Serenla took up the responsibilities, and worked herself to exhaustion nearly every day for years until by some good fortune, a lord employing her father for a job took a liking to him and hired him on full time to work in his stables. Serenla encouraged him to go and live in comfort with the lord, leaving her alone in small home she had grown up in. While she carried on the work her parents had raised her to do, she found herself not only bored, but horribly lonely. While she was no longer struggling financially, she no longer had purpose, and knew she would not find it in the empty house. With no real plan, she made preparations to sell the home and use the money to provide safe and comfortable travel, though to where, she didn't know. However, before she could do so, news came of the coming apocalypse, and she fled along with everyone else, leaving behind all she had. She fled with many to the new world, Atlas, but in the chaos found herself hopelessly lost. After despairing a while, she became determined that this was fate, and that she would carry on as she would have, and travel aimlessly until she found a place she could call home. Personality Traits: There is still a childish joy in her heart, but as she always has, often keeps it in check. She is practical, and patient, often able to deal with the worst of people when she has to without dropping a beat. Yet for those she believes to be deserving, she is selfless to a fault. Ambitions: Her ambitions are humble, desiring only to find a place which she can call home, and work in which she can find fulfillment. Strengths/Talents: She is an adept business woman, and as her parents raised her, an excellent farrier and groom to horses of all types. She has worked hard labor, so she is quite strong, and has excellent endurance. Weaknesses/Inabilities: She is stubborn, and a bit too serious. Despite her wit, she is slow to get jokes and puns, and often is the last to laugh. Appearance: She's of an average height, and a muscular build, though not without beauty and feminine attributes. She has long, dark auburn hair with dark blue eyes. Her hands are calloused and tough, and she has a few small scars on her hands and arms, though pale and hardly noticeable. Skin:
