The hour was late as the Balianese soldiers reported to the fairground for routine training. The soldiers had spent their hours practicing their swordsmanship and archery, improving their abilities in combat. Soon their refined abilities would be put to the test as it was there that they were surrounded by a Darkspawn incursion.

Five darkspawn appeared, unsheathing their weapons and making their motions in preparation of a fight. In a display of valor and unwavering determination the Regiment soldiers took up arms against the invaders, ending the skirmish with swift precision. Shortly after, the Regiment soldiers would go back to Balian to spread news of their victory.

Combat Academy

INTRODUCTION

The Combat Academy of the Regiment of Saint Lothar is a distinguished institution where new Aspirants of the Regiment get moulded and transformed from untrained and disorderly into disciplined soldiers and the commanders of our future can finetune their leadership and command abilities. Aspirants undergo rigorous basic training, focusing on physical conditioning, weapons mastery, and battlefield tactics, all while being instilled with our core values of discipline, and loyalty.

During a stint in the Combat Academy of the Regiment of Saint Lothar, aspiring officers are equipped with the necessary skills to command their fellow soldier effectively and make pressing and timely decisions under immense pressure. 

The training grounds include a sparring arena as well as archery targets designed to simulate real combat conditions,

ensuring every recruit is prepared for the challenges ahead of them.

BASIC TRAINING

Each aspirant who begins their career within the Regiment of Saint Lothar is required to undergo a basic training course. The basic training is a course of trainings, lectures and assignments that teaches the least experienced of people everything that they will need to know in order to not only survive but thrive as a footman of the Regiment. 

  The course of training is composed of several differing factors including gate duty essentials, a lecture on understanding the basics of weaponry, mock duels with fellow soldiers and the all important hunt at the end of their course. Each aspect also serves to inform drill instructors of whom may need aid with certain tasks and who will excel at them.

OFFICER TRAINING

Officer training in the Regiment is a demanding and comprehensive process, combining martial ability along with leadership development. Aspiring officers are rigorously trained in combat tactics and mastery of weaponry, while learning the importance of discipline and honor of their Leadership role. The training emphasizes on mental acuity, ensuring that officers are prepared for the complexities of warfare and responsibility of commanding their fellow soldiers. 

The future officers are also trained on logistical matters in order to teach them the difficulties that an army can undergo if they are not well disciplined in their use of materials, time and lives. Under the guidance of experienced veterans, new officers are shaped into leaders capable of upholding the integrity of the Regiment.

Amberiddle 

If allowed to stand in an airtight container after harvesting, the plant’s sap will take on powerful adhesive properties. Used raw or mixed into a syrup, it may then be applied to wounds in order to seal wounds shut without the use of sutures. It is identifiable by its long green leaves and serrated edges, and often grows between the boughs of trees.

Aqua Nymph 

The flower of this bulbous plant may be harvested and applied as a potent means of scarring and burn treatment. It’s best used as quickly as possible after a burn wound has been cleaned. Notable features include its green-brown coloring, slimy appearance, pod-like bulbs, and large circular leaves. To the untrained eye, the plant can easily be mistaken for toads. It should also be handled with extreme care as the plant is incredibly delicate given that any damage to it will render it useless.

Bitter Reed 

High in nutrients and vitamins, this reed may be dried, then chopped and boiled in water to produce a bitter-tasting tea. When drunk, this infusion would alleviate symptoms of mundane sickness such as coughs and colds, and is also an effective anti-nausea treatment. It takes the shape of thick green reeds with lime hued leaves.

Blissfoil 

An array of tiny blue flowers upon a thin stalk. The petals are covered in a thin pollen that would numb the senses for up to a narrative hour by means of touch, or when ground into a paste. However, it can be quite dangerous, being capable of causing permanent numbness if overused. One should always wear gloves and a nose/mouth covering when harvesting the herb to avoid unwanted numbness. It’s noted for possessing an array of tiny blue flowers that rest upon a thin stalk. 

Frostvine 

This vine is capable of numbing parts of the body such as the face and fingers, or even entire limbs after up to five narrative minutes of prolonged physical contact. When ground into a salve, the yielded paste would be capable of soothing physical aches or pains within the flesh. The vines are uniquely blue and cold to the touch, often lowering the temperature of the surrounding area.

Gislocinovi 

The juice from a measure of the boiled stalk can be used to clean wounds of all bacteria similarly to alcohol, except without causing stinging. It makes for a much more comfortable experience in wound cleaning for the patient. This plant is identified by a tall, thick green stalk with green leaves and white lotus-like flowers.

Hiding Moss 

Due to this herb’s absorbent nature, it is most often used to pack deep wounds in order to promote healing and prevent infection from setting in. It will also release a humid mist when fully expanded, signifying its need to be changed. The deep green moss is best harvested at night or kept within a lightless container due to its ability to rapidly expand when exposed to any source of light.

Tippen’s Root 

When its roots are ground into a paste or salve, it is capable of coagulating blood within seconds of wherever it’s applied, ceasing the flow of flesh wounds upon the surface level. It has a unique coloring in the form of dark spotted yellow roots and bright purple flowers, however it also has a distinct and foul scent of rotten eggs.

Scissors 

Scissors are a small, simple, handheld tool with two metal blades joined together at a pivot point, they have a wide range of uses that can include cutting bandages and clothing to exposing areas that need medical attention. 

Bandages  

Bandages are materials used to cover, protect, and support injured areas of the body. They help control bleeding, prevent infection, and promote healing by holding dressings in place or immobilizing injured limbs. Bandages come in various forms, including gauze or wraps, and are often used to manage wounds, sprains, or fractures.

Sutures 

Sutures are threads or cords used to stitch together torn flesh or open wounds. Made from various materials, these stitches are employed to bind the edges of a wound, allowing it to heal and close over time. It’s best to have clean pre-threaded needles that must be discarded after each patient. 

Forceps

 Forceps are a simple yet very useful handheld instrument used to grab and extract objects. They are usually made from iron or steel and have a curved edge to easier grip objects.

Tourniquets

A tourniquet is a device used to control bleeding by applying pressure to a limb. It typically consists of a cloth or leather band along with a rod for tightening it to constrict blood flow to the open wound. 

Splints

Splints are rigid supports crafted from wood or metal used to immobilize broken or injured limbs. Applied to fractures or sprains, these devices are bound tightly around the affected area to prevent further harm and encourage healing. Strips of cloth or leather are used to secure the splint in place, ensuring the limb remains still while the bones or tissues mended. 

Cauterizing Irons

A cauterizing iron is a heated metal tool used to cauterize open wounds during medical procedures. It is often used to stop bleeding or removal of abnormal tissue. To use it, one must heat the tip of the cauterizing iron till it's red-hot, then apply to the wound.

Principles of Triage

Soldiers on the frontlines face immense hardship, enduring a wide range of injuries from minor to life-threatening. It is never easy, especially in the heat of combat, to decide who you can or can no longer help. However, resources of time, energy, and materials must be distributed in the most logical way possible. Triage on the battlefield is organized into four key categories to prioritize care effectively.

Immediate [ Red Color Category ]

This category includes individuals who have sustained severe, life-threatening injuries and require urgent medical intervention. Their conditions are critical, and without rapid treatment, their chances of survival are significantly diminished. Immediate action is necessary to stabilize them, and they should be among the first treated.

Delayed [ Yellow Color Category ] 

This category is for individuals who have sustained serious injuries but are not in immediate danger of death or rapid deterioration. While their conditions require medical attention, they can tolerate a delay in treatment without significant risk. These patients are stable enough to wait for care until more urgent cases have been addressed. However, their injuries still need to be monitored closely to ensure they do not worsen over time.

Minor [ Green Color Category ]

This category is reserved for individuals with non-life threatening, minor injuries, such as small cuts, bruises, or sprains. Their condition is stable, and there is little to no risk of their injuries worsening in the immediate future. These individuals can typically wait for medical attention without significant consequences, as their status is unlikely to change over the next few days. While still in need of care, their treatment can be deferred until resources are available to address more critical cases.

Expectant [ Black Color Category ]

This category is for individuals whose injuries are so severe that survival is extremely unlikely, even with immediate and extensive medical intervention. It also includes those who are already deceased upon first coming across them. These patients are either beyond help or in a state where the resources needed to treat them would be better used for others with a higher chance of survival. The focus for those in this category is typically shifted away from active treatment, as the priority lies with those who can still benefit from care.

Types of Injuries and Treatments

Lacerations 

A laceration is a deep cut, often caused by sharp objects. They can vary in length and depth, and typically bleed heavily due to disrupted blood vessels. Treatment usually involves cleaning the wound and, if necessary, stitching or otherwise closing the laceration with Tippen’s Root or a Coagulator to prevent infection and scarring. If the bleeding is severe, a tourniquet can be employed to slow blood flow, but shouldn’t be used for more than two hours to keep the limb viable.

Amputations

To perform an amputation, one must first numb the appendage with Blissfoil generously. Tighten a leather belt or similar object above the cutting point. Two diagonal lines should be cut into a v-shape on each side of the limb in order to minimize further skin tearing. A bone saw must then be used to cut through the bone and forceps must then be used to clamp blood vessels before a Tippen’s Root salve is applied. Fold the extra skin over the wound and apply a suture, then be sure to clean it with a Gislocinovi solution. Wrap the appendage in a bandage and tend to it regularly. 

Stab Wounds 

A stab wound is typically a deep, penetrating injury caused by a sharp object, like a blade, that punctures the skin and tissues. They often have small, clean entry points, but cause internal bleeding and a great deal of pain. Basic treatment for a stab wound involves controlling the bleeding by applying direct pressure to the open wound using gauze, then wrapping it tightly with a sterile dressing. Alternatively, Hiding Moss can be used to pack a wound, which promotes healing and prevents infection from setting in. In any event, seek out a trained medical professional to further tend to the wound.

Arrow Wounds 

An arrow wound is a sharp, puncturing wound caused by the penetration of an arrow head into the body. The severity of this injury can change depending on the type of arrowhead, and the depth of the arrow, along with where the arrow hits at. To treat a non-barbed arrow wound, it is recommended to first clean the area surrounding the site and use Frostvine to numb the area. Cut the shaft of the arrow in half before carefully pulling it out and applying Tippen’s Root to stop the bleeding. If it’s deep enough, it may require further suturing. However, for a barbed arrow, it’s best to leave it in place until a trained medical professional can surgically remove it.

Blunt Force Trauma 

A blunt force trauma wound is the result of an impact for a blunt object, typically this type of injury does not puncture the skin but rather causes internal damage. This severity often changes depending on the force applied and location of the trauma. They can typically be identified by extensive bruising, swelling, and pain at the site of impact. Treatments vary and will typically require a trained medical professional to further assess the wound. However, Frostvine can be used to numb and cool the area, along with keeping the injury site stable and elevated until it can be properly examined. 

Broken Bones 

A broken bone is what happens whenever a bone is put under more force than it can handle, casting it to fracture. Depending on the severity and location of the fracture, the injury can vary greatly. To treat a broken bone in a limb, first you need to immobilize the area using a splint or something sturdy to prevent further movement. Place two rods along each side of the broken bone then wrap them with a cloth to keep them in place, though don’t bind it too tight else you risk cutting off circulation. For a broken rib, one should apply Frostvine to the area before wrapping it to ensure the bones do not shift while they are transported to a trained medical professional.

Dislocations

A dislocation occurs when a bone in a joint becomes displaced from its normal position within a socket. This is typically caused by excessive force and can result in pain, swelling, and limited range of motion. Treatment for a dislocation involves grasping the limb or disjointed bone and pushing or pulling it back into its socket. Even a successful repositioning should still be further examined by a trained medical professional to ensure that everything is in its correct place.

Burns 

A burn wound is an injury to the skin caused by exposure to heat. There are a few types of burns ranging from first degree to third degree. A first degree burn is typically pink or red with no blistering and mild irritation, while a second degree burn is noted to have darkened blistered skin. The most severe of burns, third degree, display blackened and cracked flesh. To treat a burn wound in the field, it's recommended to wrap the area in a cool damp cloth to reduce the temperature and pain. It can then be cleaned with a Gislocinovi solution before an Aqua Nymph salve is placed on the wound site for healing and scar mitigation. This should be followed by wrapping it with a clean bandage. If no herbs are present, simply perform the first step and quickly seek out the nearest trained medical professional or clinic. 

Unconsciousness  

If someone is found unconscious in medieval times, the first step is to check for signs of life, such as breath or a pulse. If they are breathing, gently position them on their side to prevent choking, ensuring their head is slightly elevated. Remove any obstacles or tight clothing that may hinder their breathing. Should no breath or pulse be detected, one should try to clear the individual’s airway by tilting the head back, followed by using their hands to gently press on the chest in a rhythmic fashion in an attempt to restart the heart.

OBJECTIVES: 

Investigate the cause of ships going missing

Rid our waters of whatever was causing the missing ships

MISSION OVERVIEW: 

BA. 141

Rylee Malgath was put in charge to investigate the cause of Balian ships going missing. Those under his command were three soldiers, their ship's crew, and three volunteers. They had set out into the open ocean, and quickly came in contact with the creature at fault. A draconic sea beast with tendrils and spines. The beast quickly attacked their ship.

It first slammed into the side of the ship, causing a large hole to form. Later the beast would destroy the masts as well, making the ship unable to move.

All who were present threw their harpoons at the creature, few doing actual damage. Rylee Malgath tied himself to the ship and leapt off with just a fishing knife. He landed onto the leviathan’s back, was thrown off, and stabbed his way back on. Mons Avarson jumped over the side after Rylee Malgath, in hopes to keep him from drowning

Harpoons continued to be thrown from the crew, volunteers, and Aurellius Greye. Their fellow soldier, Aurellius ,attempted to leap onto the beast's back, and was swiftly thrown off.

The creature was finally slain when Rylee Malgath got a lucky cut into it’s throat. In the beast’s death throes, Rylee was sent flying and landing back into the water. With the ship damaged beyond repair, the group were forced to swim to shore. There was minimal injury, only a few came away with injuries that did not require medical aid.

INTRODUCTION

The Regiment of St. Lothar (est. 101 BA) acts on behalf of the Kingdom of Balian as its standing army and military. The Balianese military force has been entrusted with the sacred duty of safeguarding the sovereignty and people of Balian from both internal and external affairs, for unwavering in their steadfast faith and loyalty unto the crown, the Regiment is the nation’s first line of defense.

The Regiment operates as an autocratic, primarily land-based force. The Regiment is led by the Lord Strategos, who holds the highest authority within the command structure and its associated units. The military is responsible for securing the Kingdom’s borders and maintaining tranquillity within its walls.

SECTION I: Command Structure

Officer Ranks

Strategos

The Strategos holds the highest authority within the Regiment, and is a rank afforded only to veterans who have proven their unwavering honour and steadfast loyalty through years of valiant service beneath the crown and people of Balian. The Strategos is responsible for executive decision making, task management, organization, and recruitment.

Athanator

The Athanators are second to only the Lord Strategos within the Regiment structure. These soldiers have completed their senior officer courses and are expected to lead their own Billets, as well as manage training for less experienced soldiers.

Hypatos

The Hypatos is the first commissioned officer rank, and serves as the transition from enlisted soldier to higher command upon completion of their officer training courses. This rank is charged with upkeep, leadership, and the command of lower ranks.

Enlisted Ranks

Dekaros

The Dekaros are veterans of the Regiment who have proven their unwavering loyalty and assured competence in their field. Dekaros are seasoned soldiers who serve as key figures in tactical operations. Their expertise and judgement make them important assets to the Regiment.

Excubitor

Excubitors have proven their discipline and competence within the Regiment. This rank marks the beginning of a more strategic role for aspiring soldiers, with increased responsibilities in both training and leadership.

Noumera

The Noumera rank is the first rank achieved after completion of the Combat Academy, Noumera are considered fully trained soldiers, ready to serve in the Regiment’s ranks. They have demonstrated proficiency in combat, discipline, and teamwork.

Aspirant

The Aspirant rank is bestowed upon those who have recently joined the Regiment of Saint Lothar, marking the beginning of their military careers. Aspirants undergo training within the Combat Academy, where they are molded into disciplined soldiers capable of serving the Kingdom and its citizens.

SECTION II: Specialist Formations

Armourers

The Armourers are an integral aspect of the Regiment, overseen by the assigned Quartermaster. This formation is responsible for the allocation of resources and keeping inventory on all equipment utilized by the soldiers of the Regiment. Their day-to-day duties include storage organization, requisition request approval and denial and material bookkeeping.

Apothecaries

Instructed in advanced medical practices, the Regiment Apothecaries are primarily responsible for the wellbeing of their peers and ensuring active servicemen are in able condition. These individuals are often distinguished by their skills as physicians, as well as a knowledge of various alchemical practices and peculiar substances.

Chaplains

Venerated for their steadfast faith and dedication, Chaplains serve to guide their comrades-in-arms spiritually, leading the Regiment’s soldiers in prayer and reciting litanies both off and upon the battlefield. However, having sworn themselves singularly to the faith, members of the chaplaincy hold no official authority within the chain-of-command but are instead honoured representatives of the Diocese of Lotharia.

SECTION III: Traditions

The Hunt

Per tradition, Aspirants have to complete a hunt before being officially inducted into the ranks of the Regiment. The aspiring combatant will be tasked with felling a manner of beast, a test during which they must prove themselves capable of exercising their training. Upon completion, the Aspirant’s basic training will be recognized as completed.

Honor of the Fallen

The fallen of the Regiment are buried through special regiment ceremonies where they are laid to rest by their comrades-in-arms. These burials serve as a means to honor every soldier who has given their life in service to the Crown and its people. 

Regimental Addresses

Every year there is a Regimental Address, During this address soldiers are given information on any news concerning their nation, capital or the regiment. This is also a time for promotions and pay to be handed out to the soldiers.

Oath of Service

Upon completion of their basic training, every soldier takes the Oath of Service, solidifying their choice and loyalty to the Kingdom of Balian, its reigning sovereign and the Regiment of Saint Lothar. The Oath of Service acts as a way to unify all soldiers and grants them a purpose for their time in the Regiment.

[!] An older gentleman of the Regiment of St. Lothar manned the recruitment stand, letting out a grumble as he was approached. He tapped upon his paper with the end of his quill, asking the following questions with a gruff voice:

“Ai, your name?”

As he noted the name, seeming to struggle with its spelling, he continued. “And where’re you from?”

“Ai? It’s nice, isn’t it?” Again, he scribbled the answer. “Now, what’s brought you to joinin’ the ole regiment?”

The old recruiter hummed thoughtfully, once more nodding. “And do you have any prior experience? Skilled in combat or weaponry?”

“And, eh... Anything else necessary for us to know?” The final question came, the pen tapping against the wooden stand.

As the interview came to an end, the old man reached out a hand to firmly shake that of the recruit’s. “Graza teu! You’ll hear from the Regiment shortly.” And with that, you were dismissed, and the recruiter beckoned the next in line to approach.

SCOUTING REPORT:

LOCATION OF INTEREST: Northern Beachfront

DATES OF OPERATION: B.A. 140

OBJECTIVES: 

• Investigate the northern beachfront on a routine patrol
• Record and report any findings

MISSION OVERVIEW: 

BA. 140

A Patrol unit, under the command of Aurellius Greye, while being supervised by Anthanator Achillius d’Arkent, launched a patrol up the northern beach of Balian. Upon reaching Fort Dante, the unit turned back to head back towards the city. After reaching the bridge to Salia, the acting Commander, Dekaros Aurellius Greye, announced an order to search around the bottom of Salia’s entrance.

The unit was searching around, whenever we heard the shuffling of something above their heads, so we headed up to discover three bandits, all dressed in leather with daggers and bows. The order was given to keep quiet and attempt a stealth approach. As we did this, the bandits noticed and launched a counterattack. All of the bandits were dispatched, and we sustained minimal injuries. 

We are going to launch a follow up patrol to search for where these bandits were taking refuge.

THE COMBAT ACADEMY OF BALIAN

Founded by Viktor Gotwa, circa 132 B.A.

The Combat Academy of Balian is a structure within the Regiment of Saint Lothar. The Academy is responsible for the training and education of soldiers, starting from basic combatant instruction for Aspirants, to advanced military tactics and theories for officers. 

The  Commander of the Combat Academy is tasked with heading the department. The subordinates of this billet are referred to as Instructors. The Commander's responsibilities include managing Instructors, advancing course material, and

The Combat Academy organizes its training into courses. Each course has a set of lessons and tests to ensure that those who finish are fit for the roles expected of them. 

The Academy currently offers the following courses:

Basic Training

Each soldier has to begin somewhere, and in the Regiment this starts with Basic Training. On average basic training is split in two to three segments each covering a part of essential knowledge that every soldier should know. These segments teach how to follow basic formation commands, culture and history of the Kingdom and the Regiment, combat basics, introduction in small unit battle, regimental structure and basic etiquette. After finishing basic training soldiers are granted the rank of Noumera and welcomed into the regiment as fully capable soldiers.

Junior Non-Commissioned Officers Course

Being the first of the advanced courses, the Junior Non-Commissioned Officers course begins with a shorter, more detailed version of things taught in Basic training. Following this the soldiers learn the basics of leadership and how to command soldiers in combat, in addition to this they learn more about the traditions, culture of the regiment and the level of discipline that should be maintained. This course finishes with an examination of knowledge and a test of leadership abilities.

Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Course

The final course for Non-Commissioned Officers focuses on leadership in battle and the duty of upholding the traditions of the Regiment. Those soldiers who decide to take this path become leaders of smaller battle formations and paragons of regimental traditions capable of turning the tide against a numerically larger foe and if need be holding ground in hostile territory for prolonged periods of time.

Junior Officers Course

The Junior Officers Course is available for all soldiers starting from the rank of Excubitor, after finishing this course soldiers gain the right to be promoted to the officer core starting at the rank of Hypatos. During the course soldiers learn what it means to be an officer, how to handle officer duties and long term planning.

Senior Officers Course

The Senior Officers Course works to expand the existing knowledge of officers and prepare them for any situation. This course introduces planning methods, reform planning and military management, any officer who finishes this course is capable not only to fill a role in the Regiment but to also lead it if need be.

Strategos of The Regiment

Saint Lothar’s Regiment is the successor of many previous military institutions within the Kingdom of Balian. Whilst before it came the Royal Armada and the Company before that, the Regiment sources a number of its martial traditions from the Imperial State Army of the dissolved Holy Orenian Empire, promoting military cohesion through a structured hierarchy and strict discipline. 

The Regiment in its current state has undergone many changes during its time and as such this handbook aims to establish a clear outline for its structure and functions. It contains the basic information concerning the Regiment that every soldier or aspiring recruit should know.

By design, the Regiment was founded and expanded upon with the following Seven Principles currently serving as its foundation: 

I. Duty above all 

From the moment one joins the Regiment they have decided to dedicate their lives towards its ultimate duty, to serve and protect the Kingdom of Balian and its ruling line, the House of Novellen, no matter what sacrifices it may take. This duty towards the realm is placed above everything else, serving as the compass by which many decisions are to be made. This can be seen in practice with the loyalty of soldiers and the hateful stance towards any traitors. 

II. The Book and the Sword

The Regiment places high importance upon the task of educating its soldiers and raising their skills in all matters. With the use of the Combat Academy and its courses even the lowest of peasants can be turned into capable leaders. This supports the thinking that proper education, preparation and systems shall guarantee victory even before entering any battlefield.

III. The Adjutant System

The Regiment utilizes Adjutants as assistants for Lieutenants and Captains. These positions are filled as the final part of training during senior and junior officer courses, where the officers in training, called cadets, are tasked to learn how their superiors operate on a day to day basis.

IV. Formation Warfare

The Regiment follows an organized system of battle where soldiers are split by their weapon type during combat, establishing small unit formations led by Excubitors and Dekaros. These units in turn are commanded on a larger scale by Officers. This not only allows for a diverse battle doctrine but also eases leadership on the officer side as this allows the effective delegation of command.

V. Supportive Staff

No large military can fully function without paperwork, logistics and support. For the Regiment, this support comes from the General Staff of Balian. The General staff provide the Regiment with detailed planning, report writing and at rare times battlefield command.

VI. The Billet System

The Regiment utilizes a Billet system in order to manage its officers. These billets start out from the simple quartermaster to the prestigious billet of Regiment Commander. If any officer wishes to rise to the rank of Lieutenant and above they are required to hold a billet. This is done to ensure that all officers of higher ranks have set duties and responsibilities. 

VII. Legacy

The Regiment takes inspiration from the original Balianese Royal Armada and the old Bathalite traditions. It has also drawn inspiration from the dissolved Imperial State Army, a model still utilized by numerous nations and former provinces of the Empire.

Structure

Officer Ranks

Strategos

This rank is granted to senior officers who have proven themselves capable and, after taking the Commanding Officer of the Regiment billet, prove themselves further with peerless work in said capacity. Only the highest standard of leadership is expected from this rank. In addition, a Strategos may gain a personalized moniker to be added to the records of the Regiment.

Athanator

To obtain this rank an officer is required to take up a billet and show themselves capable of leading it. These soldiers have completed senior officer courses and already have experience in the officer role.

Hypatos

An Hypatos is a junior officer, one who has just completed Junior Officer courses and is starting to fulfill officer duties in the regiment. While most of these soldiers have knowledge for their duties and experience as corporals or sergeants, many still need time to adjust to the expectations placed upon them.

Enlisted Ranks

Non-Commissioned officers

Dekaros

The sergeants of the regiment are battle hardened veterans that hold the right to command their comrades in battle within their own formation. These soldiers are expected to hold skills and experience that match the junior officers. Their duties involve maintaining the discipline and traditions of the Regiment, ensuring that their fellow soldiers are performing up to standard. They have finished the senior non-commissioned officer courses.

Excubitor

The Excubitors are the junior non-commissioned officers that have just finished their first set of additional courses in the Combat Academy. These soldiers know the structure of the Regiment and hold the capabilities needed to mentor those below them in how this structure functions. These soldiers hold command of small unit formations.

Noumera

Noumera is the first full fledged rank of the Regiment. These troops have completed their basic training and earned their right to serve as a true member of the Regiment. Although green, many of these soldiers hold immense potential.

Aspirant

Those who first join the Regiment receive this rank, which they hold until they finish their Basic Training within the Combat Academy. Most of the time these Aspirants know nothing of military life and hold little skill, yet tarnished steel can be polished and as such these new members of the Regiment earn their place by completing Basic Training.

Billets

Regiment Commanding Officer

The Highest ranking billet in terms of authority is the Regiment Commanding Officer, only one Individual may fill this billet at a time. This billet allows one to reach the rank of Strategos and gives them the chance to earn the honorary title of Grand Strategos. The Regiment Commanding officer is responsible for all actions taken by members of the regiment and the general staff, any failure of success is the commanding officer's failure or success. The regiment commanding officer also commands the general staff. Day to day duties include planning, officer management, regiment activity organization, general staff management and regiment address organization.

Commander of The Combat Academy

The position of the Commander of the combat academy is a prestigious one, as it holds great importance within the regiment, for the progression and skills gained of every soldier rely on the quality of combat academy courses. The commander of the Combat Academy has direct command of all Aspirants and Instructors, in addition to the right to suggest instructors for approval to the commander of the Regiment. Their day to day duties include Instructor management, training scheduling, aspirant management, course planning and course improvement.

Quartermaster

The Quartermaster is the leading position for the management of provision. The Quartermaster is in charge of organizing storage and to organize resource gathering together with the taskmaster. The Quartermaster also works together with the Logistics and Procurement division of the General staff for additional supply support. Their day to day duties include storage organization, requisition request approval and denial, storage organization and material recordkeeping.

Taskmaster

The Taskmaster is in charge of specific duty, task and mission objective issuing. Their duties mainly concern themselves with rank and file soldiers and non-commissioned officers, to issue tasks, missions, resource acquisition orders and many other things. The Taskmaster is also in charge of battle formation organization and implementation. When a soldier has nothing to do, it's the duty of the Taskmaster to put them to work. The day to day duties include task and order management to issue them and record the time the order or task is given and when it is completed, in addition their duties also include planning, to make sure that no single soldier is overworked.

Sections of the Regiment

While the Regiment is a single functioning unit there are specific sections, which have duties outside the norm or direct engagement and mainly support the Regiment in its goals. These sections differ in culture, day to day work, and even have specific conditions for joining.

Combat Academy

The Combat academy is the foundation for the skill and conduct of non-commissioned officers and officers(NCO, and OF). The Academy itself consists of the Commander of the Combat academy and its instructors, this teaching staff manages the various courses that exist to raise the skills and qualifications of the soldiers of the Regiment.

General Staff

General Staff is the center of planning and paperwork in the regimental level of the military. The general staff consists of both soldiers and civilian employees who toil away at mountains of paperwork to ensure the highest level of planning, reports and orders are produced.

Traditions

The Hunt

No soldier of the Regiment finishes their basic training without completing the final tests of the course - the hunt. During this challenging test aspirants are sent out into the wilds to eliminate a beast in an area, during this test no assistance is given from instructors unless the aspirants life is in critical danger. This is also the closing test for basic training, a trial to assess the practical skills gained. 

Honor of the Fallen.

The fallen of the Regiment are buried in specific regiment burials, catacombs where they hold the privilege to rest alongside their fellow soldiers. These burials are also made ceremonial, as a way to honor every soldier who has given their life for the Kingdom.

Regimental Addresses

Every year there must be a regimental address, no matter what has occurred, no matter how many have fallen, the address shall be held. During this soldiers are informed of any news concerning the nation, capital or the regiment, promotions are given and pay is issued.

Legends of the Regiment

Exceptional individuals in the regiment are recorded in the records and granted a specific place in future lessons, their deeds and achievements noted and kept recorded till the end of times, in addition a moniker is given in accordance with their achievements.

Oath of Service

Upon joining the Regiment each soldier gives the oath of service, solidifying their choice and loyalty to the Kingdom of Balian and the Regiment. The oath sworn unifies soldiers and grants them a set purpose for what they fight and what values to hold dear.

Both The Sybilline Company and The Guianian Company are hereby Dissolved returning the internal structure to a single regiment, now with 4 officer positions that are to be as follows: Commander of the Regiment, Commander of the Combat Academy, Quartermaster, Taskmaster.

II

Due to the march of time and progression of the Kingdom and its culture, the current rank names have been deemed inadequate, as such the rank names have been changed to fit our realm.

III

Due to the changes made a new Regiment Handbook has been published making all previous declarations and reforms about military matters units outdated and no longer in effect.

IV

Due to the attack on Fort Dante a state of High alert has been issued, soldiers are to prepare for combat against the foes of the Kingdom. Anyone lacking equipment is to report immediately to any officer.

V

The current set of uniforms has been deemed outdated and new ones are to be issued and placed in effect immediately, per the uniform details outlined in the Regiment handbook.

VI

Due to the completion of basic training and the required time spent in previous rank the following soldiers are to be promoted to the rank of Noumera, Aspirant Erwin Bognarh, Aspirant Aurellius Greye,Aspirant Kathryn Atalia Virosi.

Due to courage in the field of battle and high dedication towards their duties per my rights as Commander of the Regiment award the following soldier with the Distinguished Service Star, 3rd tier - Bronze, Athanator Sebastian Eros.

OBJECTIVES: 

• Investigate the area rumored to contain an unknown military force
• Record and report any findings

MISSION OVERVIEW: 

BA. 131

A Scouting party under the command of Captain Victor Gotwa gathered at the gates of Portoregne. This scouting party consisted of Aspirant Perris, Aspirant Aurelius, Man at Arms Adrian, Lieutenant Sebastian Eros, and Captain Viktor Gotwa.

The woods by Fort Dante were surveyed for unusual activity. Humanoid footprints were uncovered by Aspirants Perris and Aurelius, which would in turn lead the scouting party to find an enemy camp.

A camp of an estimated 5-8 hostiles was uncovered. Following this, an approach was made where Aspirants Aurelius and Perris valiantly advanced toward the enemy camp and overheard details about plans to lay siege upon a fort. Due to increasing suspicion and unease detected from the hostiles, the party returned to the capital.

OBJECTIVES: 

• Investigate the Grand Island Mine and the nearby mining town
• Clear the area of any enemies of the Kingdom
• Secure salvageable ores and resources

MISSION OVERVIEW: 

BA. 127

A scouting party made contact with the Grand Island to assess the ruins of the mining town. Miners were found dead, presumably killed. The locations of the mine and storehouse were located. Task forces were sent to secure the sites of the mining town and the storehouse with each task force consisting of [REDACTED] soldiers.

BA. 128

The scouting party managed to locate the storehouse. A hostile encounter with an insectoid beast transpired in the holding cell; the enemy was dispatched without losses. A lockbox was uncovered and the password was secured. A decision to establish an outpost was taken.

BA. 129

The lockbox was successfully opened, containing [REDACTED]. In addition the group tasked with constructing the outpost was attacked by the insectoid beasts. A scouting party managed to fend them off. A single soldier was lost in battle, the decision to organize an offensive force was taken after evidence of [REDACTED] was found.

BA. 130

An order was given to clear the infested mines of the hostile insectoid beasts. A combat team of [REDACTED] regiment soldiers alongside the prince of Monterosa was sent to complete this task. The force successfully cleared the mines without losses eliminating [REDACTED], securing the open mineral veins which yielded a total of 5128 Daemonsteel ingots.

Hark! A call to all those Loyal to the crown of Balian!

The Kingdom of Balian is looking for Balianese men and women to stand up and serve the Crown and Country, with tensions around the world rising, the Regiment of St. Lothar needs all hands on deck to ensure the stability and safety of the Balianese people. As well as to represent the Kingdom of Balian in any event that conflict may occur, wherever and whenever.

    To my loyal, persistent Marines of the Armada,

I, Demetrius var Ruthern, with good faith write these reforms with the Kingdom of Balian’s best interest in mind. As the  successor to Lord DeNurem and his legacy, I create the foundation of these reforms in sound mind, to assure the everlasting security of our great Kingdom. Hoping that the men before me who have been seated within the position as Constable will not have to rest in unease that the defensive forces of Balian falter under my call. With the power entrusted in me, I call for the ending of the Kingdom of Balian’s Era of Exploration. Once an effort declared by His Royal Majesty, King Adrian I, Don Dante DeNurem, and my father, Lord Gaius Geoffrey var Ruthern, our Third Amiratus;  GOD rest their souls.

I. CHAIN OF COMMAND

As the Regiment is an established military which holds an autocratic structure. The Regiment of Saint Lothar is dedicated to being at the forefront of defense within our Kingdom, implementing a sense of both security and prosperity within its people and the crown. All as said, the ranks which make up the Regiment are as so.

MARSHAL | DON MARECHAL

The esteemed commander of the Regiment holding the highest position, embodying a combination of skills, extensive experience from years of dedicated service, and an unwavering commitment to their Kingdom. This distinguished rank signifies the peak of martial accomplishment, serving as a symbol of honor and leadership. The Marshal's responsibilities entail the management of all affairs related to the regiment, ensuring its success and prosperity through strategic military endeavors.

CAPTAIN | CAPITÃO

Appointed by the Marshal, these individuals have demonstrated skill and unwavering commitment in the face of war, earning their place as the second highest ranked individual in the army. A Captain's primary responsibilities revolve around the supervision of the rest of the officer retinue, ensuring they fulfill their roles effectively and efficiently. Their duties include the coordination of operations, strategic planning, and the overall well-being of their soldiers.

GARRISON COMMANDER | COMANDANTE DA GUARNIÇÃO

Garrison Commanders hold a specialized role within the regiment, attached to the rank of Captain or Lieutenant, they’ve been entrusted with the      responsibility of supervising the collection of forts and strongholds under the jurisdiction of the regiment, with an objective of ensuring their operational efficiency and readiness to respond to any circumstances.

LIEUTENANT | TENENTE

These accomplished officers, known as Lieutenants, shoulder a range of responsibilities crucial to the functioning and effectiveness of the military. Lieutenants bear the responsibility of designing trainings that cover a diverse range of skills, spanning from battlefield tactics to strategic formations. 

OFFICER CADET | OFICIAL CADET

The achievement of the Officer Cadet position is of dedication and diligent service whilst in the ranks of non-commissioned officers. It represents a critical phase in one's military career, where individuals are entrusted with the opportunity to undergo training and mentorship under the guidance of their senior officers. This role is vital in shaping them into capable and effective leaders within the regiment. Only those at the rank of Banneret are eligible for the position of Officer Cadet.

BANNERET | BANDEIRANTE

The rank of Banneret stands as a singular rank, achieved within the of non-commissioned officers, earned through the display of seniority, valor, and exceptional dedication among one's comrades in the ranks of foot soldiers. This elevated status is not easily given but is rather rewarded for a soldier's journey marked by exemplary service and the passage of time.

MAN-AT-ARMS | HOMEM-AT-ARMAS

The senior enlisted rank within the regiment, encountered in various roles such as patrols and everyday operational duties, is the rank of Man-at-Arms. This rank is granted to those that show capabilities amongst the battlefield and exemplary service as a soldier.
MILITANT | MILITANTE

The first progression of many ranks amongst the Regiment, showing one's dedication and true heart of service. This rank is given to a soldier following the successful completion of their basic training, marking the beginning of their martial service.

LEVYMAN | MILICIANOS

At the base of the regiment lies the rank of Levymen, serving as the initial step for newly enlisted members who aspire to dedicate themselves to the noble cause of  serving the Kingdom of Balian and Her Royal Majesty.

II. SPECIALIST UNITS AND RANKS

The Quartermaster is the overseer of the Regiment of Saint Lothar’s Armory, their purview extends over the accumulation of all resources and gear and ensures that is distributed evenly amongst rank. As quartermaster, it is their rightful duty to guarantee that the reserves never fall low, should they be stripped of rank.

STANDARD-BEARER | @oryP

Our standard-bearer leads the battle as a proud member of our frontlines, it being the utmost responsibility for a soldier of the regiment. Should our banner falter, so will all soldiers on the field. It is held by the most experienced and combat capable soldiers enlisted, if they’re to fall in Battle, our forces will crumble.

CHAPLAIN | @Kaii

Inside the regiment, the chaplain serves in the spiritual and emotional needs of our men and women. The Chaplain conducts all religious matters which may range from guidance, rites, confession, and counseling of a soldier, they reflect the strong connections between religion and warfare.

COMMISSAR | VACANCY

The Commissar of the Regiment Saint Lothar’s plays a role in ensuring all standing members of the regiment are both well disciplined and kept with good morale. They’re to prevent disloyalty and betrayal within ranks, using indoctrination and if necessary coercion.

III. TRADITIONS OF THE REGIMENT

The following are the traditions of the regiment, all of which are expected to be followed and kept up in good faith should the Constable fail in his duties to administer the forces of the Kingdom of Balian and ensure its security. 

Rites of the Fallen

The deceased, whether during his/her service or not, shall be delivered to the catacombs of the regiment within the stronghold known as the Presidio. Our fallen shall have their rights listed and final testament/will by a Priest of the Church of Canon. Finally being put to rest alongside the weapon they last turned to battle with. Unless of course they are of noble descent, carrying forth the right of their loved ones to do away with the departed as they wish.

Trophy Hunt

The hunt many levyman engage in before beginning their career as an official member of the Regiment of Saint Lothar. Showing one's capability to make steadfast decisions, combat prowess, true of heart nature, and valor. Only an officer of the retinue may conduct a hunt and send a group of levymen to take on a beast of the wild.

The Monarch’s Oath

Once a soldier has finished that of a successful Beast Hunt they shall be tasked with swearing an oath before the Hall of Monarchs. They are required to have four witnesses during the ceremony, one of which must be a member of the Royal Duana, oftentimes being the Constable of Balian who should be conducting the Monarch’s Oath.

IV. CONSTABLES OF OLD

Lord Viktor van Darkwood [ 1 B.A - 14 B.A ] @DarkWrath94

The first Constable of Balian who served under John I, the First King of Balian, not much is notable about his time as Constable, only that he had formed the Brotherhood of Balian. Viktor van Darkwood vanished not long after the formation of our army.

Lord Peter of Arkent [ 14 B.A - 55 B.A ] @ErikAzog

Count of Salia, Peter d’Arkent was responsible for the reformation of the Brotherhood of Balian into the Company of Balian. His time as Constable was nothing short of prosperable, leading to its growth and influx in recruitment just after the disappearance of his predecessor, Lord Viktor van Darkwood. Lord Peter of Arkent’s most notable accomplishment being during the Siege of Cloudbreaker, the forces of Balian and its allies successful, of course the organization of such was left to Lord Seneschal Ledicort Vuiller. The Company then faltered after the events at the fall of Almaris, leading to the end of Peter of Arkent’s lead.

Lord Dante DeNurem [ 55 B.A - 91 B.A ] @Maur

Upon the arrival of the land of Aevos, Dante DeNurem focused his efforts into a reformation of the Company into that of the Royal Balianese Armada. His actions being most valuable to the abrupt increase in recruitment and a bolster in our Officer Corps, being one of the more prominent Constable’s of Balian, he quickly became an icon of the Kingdom. Soon after his lead, he earned himself a Knighthood within the Royal Orders of Chivalry, Torreveliar Dante DeNurem ‘Al Rook’ of the Order of Saint Lothar. After many long and thriving saints months, the tensions between the realm of humanity was at a rise, declaring war between the Kingdom of  Haense and its allies, which Balian was a part of, against the League of Veletz. The constable put endless hours towards the war efforts, rightfully earning him the March of Moncoure for his work. The declaration of Veletz marching on Balian soil and the passing of His Royal Majesty, Adrian, Lord DeNurem retired rightfully so, his mantle being left to the next leader.

V. MARTIAL LAW

Through insight and best judgment between the previous high command body known as the Board of Admirals and the Magisterium, both branches have come to consensus with the removal of the Panel system, opting to replace it with a Military Tribunal. While the Regiment of Saint Lothar still holds authority to enforce punishment upon their soldiers if an individual is to violate the Lex Militaris.

VI. GUIDELINES FOR PROMOTION

The rank of Marshal demands over thirty years of service within the Regiment, you must also have hosted fifty trainings on record, host three successful hunts for the levyman and to oath them into the Regiment, finally having recruited ten people into the Regiment. Only then shall you be recommended to become a candidate for Marshal.

To be elevated to the rank of Captain you must have been within service of the Regiment for sixteen years, having forty trainings on record, having recruited at least eight people into the rank of levymen and fit them with uniform and keys, even then hosting one successful hunt for levymen.

Those granted the rank of Lieutenant have earned the promotion for serving the Queen’s Regiment for twelve saint weeks with thirty trainings on record, also must have recruited over five people into the military.

To receive the position of Banneret as the single non-commissioned officer rank you must have served eight weeks within the Regiment and have ten recorded training. They must also oath three individuals into the Regiment after successful hunts.

On elevation to the veteran rank of Man-At-Arms you must serve four weeks as a member of the Regiment along with attending over ten trainings within the rank of Man-At-Arms.

Appointed through two weeks of service as a levymen, you must attend and complete three trainings and finish one successful hunt, only that shall you be promoted to the position of Militant.

VII. OATH OF SERVICE

The Oath of Service shall only be conducted after the completion of a successful hunt, only being hosted by a member of the officer retinue. The ceremony shall only take place within the Monarch’s Hall before the busts of past King’s and Queen’s. One must additionally be within the presence of a seated member of the Royal Duana, typically being the Constable, along with two other spectators.

PREAMBLE

Officially formed in 101 B.A. under Marshal Demetrius var Ruthern’s extensive reforms, the Cataphractii represent the newly instituted cavalry division of the Regiment of Saint Lothar. Upon witnessing the devastating potential of mounted combatants in the Aevos Coalition War, Queen Sybille I saw fit to raise her own detachment of cavalrymen. This unit was then promptly assigned to the responsibility of Banneret Jovan with the oversight of Marshal Demetrius var Ruthern.

The Cataphractii of Saint Lothar are first and foremost lancers, equipped and trained to break through infantry lines otherwise considered unassailable. Armed with platemail made from Portoregne’s finest smiths and riding atop only the most robust of Balianese warhorses, these cavalrymen are spitting images of the patron saint from which the Regiment derives their name.

STRUCTURE AND SPECIALISATIONS

There are no requirements for leadership of the Cataphractii other than being a member of the officer corps and exceptional horsemanship. As such, it is not uncommon for junior officers to be selected to lead the Cataphractii well into the closing years of their careers as senior officers. Such an officer would be titled the Don Cataphract.

Conversely, there are strict restrictions on the admission of recruits into the Cataphractii. The Cataphractii is open to application by soldiers ranked militant or above, and who are also adept horsemen. Recruits are then assessed by officers of the division in a jousting competition and, following inspection, are accepted or rejected from service.

The Cataphractii have three specialist roles; namely the farriers, the scouts, and the drummerboys.

The farrier is responsible for the general care and maintenance of the horses. Among their responsibilities, farriers are expected to trim hooves, forge and fit horseshoes, as well as treat, or in some cases, dispatch of sick and wounded horses. The unit’s farrier is distinguishable via their yellow plumes.

The scout is a lighter armed cavalryman well versed in skirmishing, mountaineering, and reconnaissance. These men are armed with javelins alongside the standard equipment of lances and sabres, but ride considerably faster horses in battle. Scouts are a versatile unit, and thus, are called upon for a number of unique and strange duties compared to the rest of the Cataphractii. They are distinguishable via their blue plumes.

The drummerboy is a unique role; while they are expected to accompany the men in battle, they are not given lances. Instead of the customary lance, a drummerboy is given a set of kettle-drums. While seemingly an irregular practice at first, it becomes apparent upon inspecting the unit that only the most loyal and vigorous of soldiers are afforded the privilege of becoming a drummerboy. In battle, it is the drummerboy who ensures the morale of the troop, and as thus, it is also the drummerboy who is the last to break. Outside of warfare however, the drummerboys are more involved with the ceremonial side of the unit rather than the maintenance and drilling that the majority of the Cataphractii are subjected to. It is the responsibility of the drummerboys to ensure that the Cataphractii have polished their gear to a flawless sheen in preparation for parades, as well as, of course, playing as a part of the Regimental marching band. The drummerboy is both mascot and backbone to the Cataphractii, and as such, is distinguishable via their vibrant tricolour plumes.

UNIFORMS AND TRADITIONS

Unlike their infantry counterparts, the Cataphractii sport a broad range of colours in their uniforms. Indeed, special emphasis is placed upon the plume of each cavalryman’s helmet. The colours of these plumes denote a variety of information, specifically; rank, specialisation, and even commendations. The majority of soldiers within the Cataphractii will sport a white plume to begin with. Upon the adoption of specialist occupations such as becoming the unit farrier or joining the drummers, these soldiers are given a new plume.

Non-commissioned officers sport black plumes. Regardless of whether or not an NCO is involved in a specialist occupation, they are expected to continue to sport the black plume. The only exception to this rule is the farrier, who, due to their veterinary knowledge, must be easily identifiable by their yellow plume.

Similarly, commissioned officers all sport purple plumes. The one exception to this is the Don Cataphract, who instead may choose to sport their familial colours if they are of noble heritage.

Finally, there is a red plume awarded only to one soldier at any given time. This soldier is designated the Master of the Sabre, as per old Orenian tradition. The Master of the Sabre must be a warrior unparalleled in skill, and as such, represents the strongest warrior of the Cataphractii. The process by which one becomes the Master of the Sabre changes in accordance with the commanding officer of the Cataphractii. While one might simply designate a soldier as the Master of the Sabre, others may instead hold tournaments, or even adopt a system of open challenges.

The Royal Sentinels are the frontline defenders of the royal family, entrusted with the solemn duty of safeguarding the monarch, their kin and preserving the dignity of the monarchy itself. Clad in distinctive plate armour and personalised helmets to the wearer, these specialised guardians stand as symbols of honour, discipline, and unwavering loyalty to the crown. Their versatile roles extend beyond mere protection, encompassing ceremonial duties, public representation, and emergency response.

Royal Sentinels have a range of duties that focus on ensuring the safety, security, and ceremonial aspects of their royal duties.

The Key Duties of the Royal Sentinels

Protection of the Monarch:

Guarding the residence of the monarch or royal family. 

Providing close protection to the monarch and royal family during public appearances and official events.

Escorting members of the royal family when travelling.

Security at Royal Residences:

Maintaining security at royal palaces, castles, and other residences.

Conducting regular security checks and patrols.

Ceremonial Duties:

Participating in state ceremonies, parades, and official events.

Guarding important symbols of the monarchy, such as the royal crown and flag.

Protocol and Etiquette:

Enforcing protocol and etiquette during official functions amongst other guards.

Assisting with the organisation and execution of formal events.

Emergency Response:

Being prepared to handle crisis situations calmly and efficiently. Keeping the peace is a top priority for members of the Royal Sentinels. 

Evacuating the monarch and other members of the royal family in case of emergencies to the nearest safe space. And upon reaching such safe space, Royal Sentinels will spread themselves through the area and keep watch. One to two members will remain out of this protective circle to act as a sort of scout in order to deliberate whether or not it is safe for the royals to return into the public.

Undergoing rigorous training in various aspects of security and defence.

Maintaining a high level of discipline and professionalism.

Coordination with the military:

Collaborating with the military to ensure overall security.

Sharing information relevant to the safety of the monarchy

On the 11th of Amber’s Cold, A patrol composed of three Royal Balianese Marines and three foreign soldiers  marched on  to the captured Fort Alexandros within the Kingdom of Balian. Venturing beyond the bridge that led to the Fortress, before being spotted by the ‘Levy of Colut’ as they refer to themselves. The group was made up of Baron Carles Galbraith, Ensign John Augustus Galbraith, Viscount Konrad Alren Darkwood, Ser Leopold Alexander Haverlock, Julius John Haverlock, Gunner Legends, and Richard von Leopold. Out of this group, only few returned, most receiving injuries, some life threatening and permanent.

The Royal Balianese Armada Officer Corps will be instating an Missing In Action order for the following soldier and foreign aid: Ser Leopold Alexander Haverlock, Julius John Haverlock, Richard von Leopold, and Viscount of Renduzzo Konrad Alren Darkwood. The rescue and return of these individuals is imperative, especially when that of a current member of the Kingdom of Balian peerage is in danger. Those who heed this call, be prepared to save these brave men who had fought valiantly for the sake of captured territory, for the third and favorably, final expedition into Fort Alexandros shall be scheduled within three saits days

    I. Parties Involved

• Attackers: Two Constructs, appearing to be made of Stone. One was 8’ tall and roughly wolf-shaped, though still humanoid, the other was 7’ tall and Orc-like. Likely Paleknights or Golems.

• Balianese Forces: Don Demetrius var Ruthern, Princess Augustina Novellen, Magister Robyn de Lyons, Amiratus Gaius de Rosius var Ruthern, Lord Commander Peter d’Arkent, Don John d’Arkent, and Private Ren Yu.

    II. Timeline of Incident

• Don Demetrius var Ruthern, age 7, was caught outside the city by two constructs.

• Princess Augustina Novellen observed the situation and reported back to Magister Robyn de Lyons by the gates. They both armored up and approached the scene, asking for the child to be let go.

• Don Demetrius fell unconscious, with mists coming from his body, like some sort of ritual. The constructs handed him back to Princess Augustina saying they had taken what they needed, and acting as if they would simply leave. Princess Augustina held him and got him behind her, and Magister Robyn worked to try and go in between them and  the constructs.

• The constructs then suddenly attacked Princess Augustina after making it seem like she would be let go, one hitting her over the head with the maul-side of his war axe, while the other stabbed her in the chest with his spear.

• Magister Robyn reacted, slamming the warhammer into the chest of the construct and cracking it, before being hit over the head by the construct’s war axe’s maul end, having softened the blow slightly with his warhammer.

• At this point, the City Bell was rung, and a rally consisting of Lord Commander Don Peter d’Arkent, Don John Lothar d’Arkent, Amiratus Don Gaius de Rosius var Ruthern, and Private Ren Yu came down the stairs to reinforce. Magister Robyn regained his senses as he’d standoff with one though not actively fight, while the taller, wolf-like golem moved away with the Princess, while seeming to perform the same ritual he had on Demetrius on her.

• Eventually, the Princess was dropped, the taller, wolf-like construct started to flee while his compatriot accepted a “klomp” (or duel) with Private Ren Yu, initially for the Princess’ safety, but eventually simply for the sake of it, and the hope that the construct could “steal his (Ren Yu’s) soul.”.

• Don Peter d’Arkent, Magister Robyn de Lyons, Don John d’Arkent, and Don Gaius de Rosius var Ruthern made chase after the larger construct, who went all the way to the coast and escaped via boat.

• On their return, Magister Robyn and some others brought Princess Augustina to the clinic for medical attention while the honor duel went on on the stairs.

• During the duel, due to the lack of honor shown by the construct earlier in the fight by attacking under a truce, Ren Yu wrestled down the construct while Don Gaius shattered it’s knee, back, and head, and Don Peter shattered its chest, at which point it crumbled.

• Don Peter, Princess Augustina, and Don Demetrius all received medical attention afterwards from various people, including Sir Aer’dir of the Paladins.

    III. Comments on Incident

• Due to the comments on stealing souls and their general look and demeanor, and based on my research, I believe these constructs to have been Paleknights.

  • If not Paleknights, they are most likely some form of rouge golems.

• Princess Lydia informed me afterwards that these same constructs have attacked Minitz. We decided it wise to inquire around the nations to see if they have bothered others, and if so, which nations, to look for patterns. I will work with the Legate’s Office on this initiative.

• We should likely keep the injured, especially Princess Augustina and Don Demetrius, under supervision due to this “soul draining”.

Due to the attacks by the mori on descendant cities, they have been deemed a grave threat to the Kingdom of Balian.
