To answer your questions! To play any sort of real undead (Your current application is completely acceptable, as you aren't actually an undead, it's just an internal conflict), you'll have to make a creature application. As for the rule query, a person will not believe they died ICly is when they actually died in roleplay. You never actually died, so therefore your persona can believe that you have died. It's more of an internal conflict for character development than an external one anyways, so there seems to be no real, tangible reason to disallow it.
