NOMINATIONS FOR THE 444 E.S GENERAL ELECTIONS
Arbiterhark replied to Office of the Lord Speaker's topic in Royal Duma
IGN: Arbiterhark Character Name: Tearlach Gant Age: 19 Residence: Gant Manor in the Duchy of Valwyck Position (Alderman or Maer): Alderman Campaign Post -
TEARLACH GANT FOR ROYAL ALDERMAN Tearlach Gant I am Tearlach Gant, youngest son of House Gant. Today, I announce my candidacy for the position of Royal Alderman. As a resident of Valwyck and a Ward of the Office of the Justiciar, I have lived and learned in both the Capital and the Countryside. Though I am a noble by right of my brother’s title, I am not blinded to the needs and wants of the Common People of Haense. It is my hope that I can repay the Haeseni People for the privileges afforded to me by my station through serving them as Royal Alderman. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Qualifications As a student under the Lady High Justiciar, I have spent over four years learning the Haurul Caezk and the functions of the Kingdom of Haense. Through the course of studying the Book of Honor, I have also studied the Codex Iurius Canonici and the Old Imperial Orennian Law, upon which so many of our laws are based. I have published a legal thesis on the relationship between the Church and Kingdom, titled “Naf Lendyy i Kongzem”. I am presently working on a long-term review of the history of each section of the Haurul Caezk, titled “The Origination of the Book of Honor: A 100-year Story”. Through research for my writing I have familiarized myself in not just the text of the law, but also the rationale and spirit behind each act. To that end, I have created a legislative agenda that I will seek to implement, should I be elected as your Royal Alderman. This agenda will seek to redress several inconsistencies present in the law, as well as strengthen the rights of all Haeseni People. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Duma Agenda: I vow to represent the Commoners, Gentry, and Low Nobility in the process of law-making in the Kingdom, a system long dominated by the Titled Peers. To address this, I promise to hold routine public and private meetings to hear complaints, questions, and concerns from all Haeseni Constituents. My door, and postbox, will always be open. I will submit a list of revisions to the Haurul Caezk’s Jura I Krima to bring definitions used in moral crimes, which are rooted in Canon Law, in line with the definitions used in the Church of the Canon. Additionally, should any crimes recorded in the Jura I Krima no longer match their common definition, I will include them for revision. I will propose a bill establishing a Statute of Limitations for certain crimes. As seen with the recent ‘Bastardry’ Scandal, there is inadequate legal standing surrounding the process of trying crimes from decades past. A clear time limit for the trial of certain crimes must be established, though some crimes, such as Murder, should always be punishable. I will propose a committee be formed of Clergymen and Legal Scholars from Haense to craft sentencing and punishment guidelines for moral crimes such as ‘Fornication’ and ‘Homoesexuality’. Current laws and processes leave the sentencing and punishment of these crimes solely in the hands of the Jovenaar. Crimes that are crimes primarily for Canonist reasons should feature input from the Church in sentencing, as they deal with the Soul. A vote for Tearlach is a vote for Haense. Let us work together to create a brighter future for our Kingdom!

To Pledge Oneself to GOD
Arbiterhark replied to KaiserJacobII's topic in The Church of the True Faith
Alright, what is your Baptismal name? Yevgency Bogdanovich Krestyanik Ah, a truly beautiful name. And, how old are you? 25 Years of Age I know you are right in front of me, but for the record, what is your Race? Human, a Highlander of Ruskan descent Once again, for the record, are you male or female? Male Do you have any family, dear? No immediate surviving family Hmm, and how do you wish to serve GOD? Parish Priest of the village of Valwyck, and perhaps, Godan-willing, one day the Bishop of Valwyck. Where do you wish to be assigned? Valwyck, in the Kingdom of Haense I have talked to Father Katerina about becoming an Acolyte and received copies of our Holy Texts from them. I have also penned a thesis here. -
Ad Laborem Yevgeny Bogdanovich Krestyanik Acolyte in the Patriarchate of Jorenus Brothers and Sister in Godan, I am a simple man, a fallible man, from the Duchy of Valwyck. Yet even in the far corners of Canondom, I learned my letters and numbers from the Holy Scrolls. But I also learned the Word of Godan through my everyday labor. For it is when one toils to one’s fullest capacity in labor towards Godan’s creation that one can truly feel the Word of Godan in their being. That labor is virtuous is no novel revelation. In the Scroll of Virtue, it is written “For I have blessed you with My miracle of creation, and you shall draw nearer to My throne by your labors. And you shall discover strength of heart as you work the forge and the plow.” [Scroll of Virtue 4: 6-7]. The passage that follows in the Canticle of Diligence also shows that to fail to labor at all, to exist in a state of Sloth, is to not act in Godan’s image for “So I am the Most High, and in pursuit of My Virtue, I bid my faithful this: You shall not be idle, nor forget your duties in favor of sloth.” [Scroll of Virtue 4: 8]. It is clear from this Canticle that Godan calls upon us to labor in our station, in his Virtuous image. As clearly stated in the Epistle to the Elves [Scroll of Spirit 4:3-5], labor extends beyond plowing the fields or working the forge. For just as it is righteous to toil in the fields, harvesting vegetation and fruit bearing trees, it is just as righteous to sell goods in the market or lay the brick in the city street. For through righteous, virtuous labor, we bring ourselves closer to Godan. Therefore, the labors of the farmer or knight, merchant or master, all are righteous before Godan and equal in Virtue when pursued to the fullest extent of their capacity [Scroll of Virtue 6: 6-7]. Righteous labor and Void-damned sloth. It would appear to be a dichotomy. One may either labor, or not. Yet what is the spiritual state of one who labors, and therefore is not slothful, yet doth not labor to the fullest extent of their capacities? For though their hands are not idle, their hearts are not fully joyous with the worship of labor in honor of Godan. Is the Labor of a Farmer who plows all his fields to their fullest, so that his poorer neighbors might glean from his harvest in charitable spirit not closer to the image of Godan than the Farmer who plows only enough so that he and he alone might eat? For not only are we called to Diligence, but we also are called to Charity [Scroll of Virtue 2: 1-11]. Yet when one only toils enough to satiate themselves, to do the minimum, do they not reduce their own capacity for charity? Therefore, I beseech thee all to consider the words of this Brother in Faith from Valwyck, that you might fully apply yourself in your labors before Godan, be you farmer or knight, merchant or master. For it is only through the fullest application of ourselves in labor in this World that we can hope to achieve our position in the Skies.

The one thing they never tell country folks is how loud cities can be. Especially the docks. The ship had barely turned off the River Avir before my ears were assailed with the din of the urban masses at work. From the hawking of fishmongers to the laughter of children, the collective voice of a sea of humanity was unlike anything I had heard back home. As the boat pulled closer and the walls of the harbor drew nearer, I was soon assaulted by the stench of the city. That, at least, was a familiar smell, reminiscent of the barn near the family croft. The lumbering shop, more a plodding barge, pulled along the quay and off and I jumped. I was here with a purpose, a mission. Though the mass of humanity was intimidating, on I pushed. Yet I was nary ten seconds through the crowds, thronging around the portside bazaar, when a voice called out to me. "Welcome! What brings you to this lovely city? Adventure? Wealth? Or some grand aspirations to elevate your place in society?” I turn to see a man, finely dressed, looking straight at me. His face lights with a smile as I look left and right to confirm if it was me to whom he spoke. "Yes, yes you. Come, humor me. What brings you to our fair port?" I know not why he spoke to me, and I know less still why I replied. "I am searching for medicines for my village. There was a dreadful outbreak of Great Pox and many are ill. Our village herbalist died this winter and without medicines from the city, I fear the whole town will perish." Quickly, I add. "Worry not, good sir, I don't have the affliction. I survived it in my youth, during the Plague of King Armini. Please, do you know where an apothecary might be found?" My shoulders, and indeed my whole body, begin to sag, with obvious sadness. Yevgeny viewed the well-dressed stranger with apprehension. His eyes darted to the left and right while his hands dropped to his belt, where a small hilt and coin purse lay. "My reasons are my own, stranger. What interest would a bag like you have with the likes of me, hmm?" Yevgeny gestured to his own clothing, a much poorer fare than the well-dressed stranger. "Unless you know me or mine, I will be on my way. Good day." OOC: I realize I had the PoV for the RP sample wrong based on glancing at some other applications. I have edited it accordingly.
