Tirrin

The first thing Tirrin remembers clearly is that somebody tore her away from the (cold body of the ) woman who gave her comfort until then, who fed her, who loved her, when she was about four years old. She came into the household of a human family of weavers, where she was put to work. In the beginning her task was to do some cleaning, be it every floor in the house or to empty the cold fireplace. Later, she learned to use the spindle and with the age of seven she was to told how to weave. It was not a happy time, but it could have been worse. She had to work very hard, but she was fed too and there were a few persons in the household who were kind to her as well, be it to give her an extra roll in secret or just to caress her hair while passing. What distressed her most was not the work though, but the rumours which were told about her origin, her scarred ears were always a topic, when other children in the neighbourhood wanted to tease her or were outright cruel. So she heard, that she had been a foundling, only raised by her mother for money, that she had indeed an elven heritage because of her ears - but why would somebody remove them? Growing up in Sutica however gave her ample opportunity to learn about other races, especially after she had been allowed to learn to write and read a little during the religious lessons the whole household had to undergo, due to a very pious head of the household. The family belonged to the Church of the Canon, believing in the one God, the Creator being the single most powerful being in the universe. Her life took a sudden turn, when on the occasion of the coming of age of the eldest daughter of the house, Mirinda, the family decided to travel to Helena to once partake in one of the big services in the Basilica of the Final Revelation and to look at the wonders of the famous town in general. Tirrin should accompany them to serve as a maid to Mirinda. Disaster struck though, the head of the family got ill and died during their visit. The prolonged stay, caused through the illness of the father drained their coffers so they could only afford to pay the costs for the travel back for the closest family members, Tirrin and two other servants had to stay in Helena. Tirrin had just turned sixteen. All her belongings fitted in a leather rucksack. She was alone, the two other servants had not bothered to look after her. The first weeks were the worst she ever experienced. The few coins she had been given were soon spent and she went hungry more often than not, she slept where ever she found a place where nobody could reach her . One day she saw a sign over a door - a weaving loom - and that reminded her, that she knew a craft. And she was lucky, for some time, for the weaver took her in . Not for long though. Other household members harassed her and finally indicted her for theft and so she was turned adrift. That made her so upset and bitter, that she forgot all her timidness and did what she was unfairly accused for - she stole a fair amount of money, precious fabrics - and some mens clothes. With the male garment she was able to hide and finally to rent a small room, where she sewed tiny bags, ribbons and other bric-a-brac, which she sold on the street. That was not much income, but enough to get along, although barely. She owns a flute, but where she got it and how she learned to play it so well, that she is able to earn some money with it as well, that is another story. I may weave it in her history later.
