Maria was born in Helena to a family of Adunian immigrants from Aeldin, having come to Arcas seeking new opportunity and life. Her father served in the Imperial State Army during the AIS war, before retiring. Her mother stayed on in the city working as a bartender in the tavern so she could feed her family. Growing up Maria listened to the stories of King Lachlan and the Adunians of the Empire, with these stories in mind she built her core ethos of honor and loyalty. She was born in 1760, on Harren’s Folly a month of great significance to her family as it was named after her ancestor’s leader Harren. Growing up she made friends with many other children of Helena, including many Heartlanders and Elves, giving her a positive outlook on other races. Her education came from attending small classes hosted by the Church of the Canon and reading at the local library in Helena. A defining moment in her life was the onset of the Inferi War, her father and mother took her younger siblings back to Aeldin to shield them from the coming storm. Maria for her part chose to stay on and decided after seeing the string of wounded flooding Helena, to eventually attempt to find a Doctor to study under. After waving goodbye to her parents and siblings she returned to Helena with her new mission in mind.
