Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.” ((How do you respond?)) Example: Nervous, Barkrim enters the store. He hears the sound of his boots against the wet, dirty floor, looks around and sees the peculiar floating candles and the piercing gaze of the witch. It's creepy, but he laughs lightly and strokes his beard. —You were waiting for me, No? It must be my reputation preceding me or your nose detecting the smell of beer on my breath. With a sudden, bold lack of hesitation, he slumps against the cushion and then leans forward onto his knees. —Barkrim, raised by wolves in the wild, I have wandered through the mountains, I have fought beasts larger than this tent and formed bonds stronger than steel. So now that you're waiting for me, what is it? Do you owe me something or was it the other way around? His voice is soft; one hand is near his belt, ready to move. Should the witch be more dangerous than her conversation implies. "Oh, I just, uh…" you stutter, tensing up. You eye the crone, then back outside the tent. For a moment, the air thickens with anticipation, until…

Barkrim Deepwood is a proud and dedicated Forest Dwarf hailing from the storied lineage of the Treebeard clan, a direct descendant of the legendary Gloin. With his towering pride for his forest-born heritage, Barkrim stands as a testament to the unique bond his people share with nature, unlike their mountain-dwelling kin. While others might find it strange to see a dwarf in the wilderness rather than in a cavern or fortress, Barkrim thrives in the woods, where he can commune with the trees, the earth, and the animals that live within it. He carries with him a deep sense of honor, one shaped by the stories passed down from his ancestors and the traditions of the Brathmordakin. Barkrim’s connection to nature has led him to wander the forests for months at a time, drawing strength from their beauty and peace. Barkrim's role in his community is one of leadership, respect, and craftsmanship. His skills in woodworking are unmatched, producing works of art that rival even the famed creations of the Wood Elves. When he's not working with timber, Barkrim spends his time as a brewer, using the finest ingredients that the forest provides to concoct new and exciting blends of alcohol. His creations are known far and wide, and his humble nature doesn't seek fame or fortune for his skills, but the respect of his peers. In addition to his craft, Barkrim is a bard, finding inspiration in the rhythms of the forest. The steady drumbeats that echo through the trees are his signature, and it’s said that his songs can bring even the most stoic dwarf to their feet in awe. Despite the peaceful life Barkrim seeks, he carries the weight of history on his shoulders. His clan, the Treebeards, was once exiled from the mountains due to the perceived disinterest in the betterment of dwarven society. While some still harbor old grudges against his people, Barkrim holds no ill will towards those who may look down upon the Forest Dwarves. He believes in the importance of respect, loyalty, and honoring those who help you in times of need. Barkrim has often found himself in the service of others, particularly when he believes their cause aligns with the deep values of his heritage. In the future, Barkrim is set to face new challenges as the world changes, and the forests of his people come under increasing threat. Will he remain true to his roots, continue his wandering path, or will he find himself in the service of a larger purpose, as his ancestors once did? Only time will tell, but for now, Barkrim Deepwood stands as a beacon of what it means to be a Forest Dwarf—honorable, resilient, and always connected to the world around him.
