  6. Entry 6 I investigated weapons simliar to the ones the pirates used to bombard our town today. Alras has them and they call them "cannons". The use the explosive powder that is used in TNT to propell and Iron spherical ball out of an obsidian vessel. I was thinking we could try to fabricate these for Holm's Deffense. We could set them up on the walls. Especially around the main areas where ships would attack us. I think I had a break through today on something I hadn't thought of before. I was canning some items in one of my especially hot furnaces today and the thing exploded. It exploded with about the same force, if not just a little less, as a stick of TNT. Here is a drawing of what my work area looked like before the accident. These are the only things I put in the Furnace. This is a drawing of what happened when I left it on the furnace too long. It scared me almost to death. What if I could harness that power. Maybe controlled release of the power over a duration of time. Maybe I could power something else with just water and heat. Have you ever seen the steam off a hot bowl of soup as it is cooked. The violence of a violently boiling liquid. The best aspect of it is that all it requires is water and heat from some source. I wonder what lava would do. I bet I could get more power with lava than even TNT could supply. What if I created a huge can. It would take quite a bit of dwarvin iron, but I believe I could make it work on a larger scale. The power could power mills as same as the wind. I wonder if I could make something that would blow on a ships sail with the steam to make the go even if there was no wind... No That doesn't seem possible, but maybe I could put the furnace on the ship to power something else... I know some dwarfs put furnaces in their rail carts to power the weels I bet I could do that on a bigger scale...I don't know. I'll be working on this more for sure.
  7. Entry 5 They craziest thing happened today. I was manning the tavern and gambling with some customers when explosion started to ring out in the town. It was mass pandemonium, but luckily we had had a town safety meeting a couple days earlier so everyone knew what needed to be done. The emergency plan for all emergency was to meet in front my tavern. Everyone remembered and did as planned. The civilians all were directed to the tavern's basement, and then they where instructed on what to do in case the tavern was compromised. Luckily that never happened. It was a little touch and go there for a little bit, but everything turned out okay. Many buildings were seriously damaged by the cannon bombardment. The tavern remained untouched luckily. The citizens remained okay through the whole thing. I on the other hand got a cutlass thrown at my face, but luckily I ducted out he way fast enough for it to just cut my cheek. Luckily we had a doctor of sorts who used a sharp piece of iron and some thread to sow the wound up. He said it shouldn't scar luckily, but let me record how the full story unfolded. I had stacked the bar stools against the door to further protect me and the citizens from the battle King Hiebe was waging outside, but my inquisitive mind would not allow me to remain inside the tavern. I looked outside and saw the barricade that Hiebe and the miltia had made in front of the tavern. I saw the person connected to a voice I had not heard before. He was wearing dark clothes with a leather hat that was shaped like a roof of a human house. He had a scull embroidered into his dark jack also. He smelt like a 100 year old zombie. Anyways back to the story of my cut. Hiebe and a group of militia men had him surrounded. They were in a stand off of sorts when it happened in the blink of an eye. He chucked his sword at my head. I ducted to my right and the cutlass glanced my cheek, and embedded itself in the tavern door behind me. I ducted into the doors, stacked the bar stools back against the door, and rushed in the basement to tend to my wounds leaving Hiebe and the able militia to the smelly man. When I came back, I rounded up the citizens and we remained safely in basement until King Hiebe came and told us that it was safe to come out and that the battle was over and the evil men had retreated to their black sailed ship. The cannon explosion made me think of ways to better defend our secluded island from future attacks. My investigation and invention drive shall be put to more use until I come with valuable ideas.
  8. Entry 4 I sit at my bar waiting for costumers, and none come. A bit a low time I guess for business. Now that I look at my log books business has died down substantially. I making enough money to keep open, but its not fun with only company every once in awhile during the work time. I been noticed some strange people boating around the island recently. The didn't bother to dock at our ports, but boat all around the island. I heard some take pirates from a conversation I overheard while working in the tavern. We are an island in a vast ocean so I'm concerned that might be who I saw.
  9. Down with Thorik! Long live King Hiebe!
  10. Entry 3 The coronation of King Hiebe was a success. Everyone gawked at the beautiful food display. I even had to hire a guard to keep people away. My friend Grabthar made a beautiful Ice sculpture of a slime. I had every type of food there. Including the expensive and sinfully delicious golden apples. We even had a man who had a strange taste for spider eyes. I had a few of those to oblige the man of that desire aswell. King Hiebe was pleased. Someone, I believe the playful Gerent of Underholm, stole the ale before the party, but the town officer returned it just in time for the festivities. The cups were rumored to be held by the mage Kilgrim and were found their, but we all know it was the prankster Gerent. I must repair Kilgrim's house because of in the haste of getting ready for the festivities the officer and I had to take a pick to his walls to get the cups which were supposedly held and found inside. Other than that and an episode of the Gerent's gold rage after King Hiebe's golden crown, the coronation went off with little other hitches. Their were many in attendance. I knew their were going to be so many so I had to prepare properly. It took me an entire week to gather everything needed. I was working up to the time the crowds showed up to eat. I didn't run out of food, which surprised me with all the people that came and traveled so far. I was happy that I had properly prepared. The preparation left little time for any other non-related actives.
  11. Entry 2 We are constantly digging and mining. I love this. My arms have never felt so strong from this constant swinging of a pick and lifting shovels filled with dirt and gravel. We had a mob of dwarf digging the entrance to the Underholm city ruled by Gerent Bislpur. It is hard to estimate the cubic meter we have taken from that place. I having to constantly craft more shovels and picks for the workers. Gerent Bislpur has taken a liking to me it seems. It is easy to pursuade his kind's favor through the use of gold items. He has talked to me of becoming a part of his government. I'm quite accepting of this, but I am troubled by his quick emotional transitions. He is very quick to violence, but he is quite fair to his people. This is both his strength and weakness. I think living with very little companionship has distorted his thoughts at times. He is very good king overall. He leads well, but only lack followers. I believe once the two Kingdoms in the nation of Holm have come to steady point in their development, then the Nation population will explode. We also must secure steady transportation from the main land close to the cloud temple. People can hardly survive the trip to our main island. We must steady our main vessels trip schedule. I believe we can do this soon. The Uglygut Incorporated is developing quite nice. I have had multiple interested parties inquire into employment and a possible franchise. The only current restrictions is flow on the consumers. I believe this will evolve though. I am still looking for more trustworthy workers. It will be interesting to see how this franchise idea will develop. I could see the first. Something very interesting happened today. I was working with some sand today in the furnace, and then I got called up to the counter by a patron of my Tavern. I forgot the sand in the furnace. I returned and found a pool of ill-formed glass in the furnace. I angrily threw some water on the glass to cool the forge and glass. The water disappeared and violent reaction gust pushing pressure which hit me in the face like a gust of hot dessert wind. I put on my cow hide gloves and removed the scrap glass, and I threw it on my work bench. I had forgotten I had been working on the tavern ledger. I heard a quick sizzle and reacted instantly by going to grab glass of the flammable paper. I pulled ill formed glass away from the ledge, but while int he process of doing so I noticed an illusion of the letters written up the paper appearing larger. I hadn't had a one drink of ale that day. Well maybe one, but that is not enough to make me see things. The glass distorted the words and letter making them clearer and larger in my vision. I peered through circular yet oval piece of glass at multiple things throughout my basement storage. It appeared to work for things at a slight distance also. I wonder if I could recreate this with some more sand. i would like to have two to fix over my eyes. It seems to relieve some of the blurring of my vision. It should be interesting to see if I can replicate it.

  14. Ahad, 29th of The Second Seed, Year 6 I have decided to start this journal to document my daily life in the new world of Asulon. I have been very Busy surviving in this new world over the past 6 years. The beginning times in this new world were quite hard. The dwarf king, King Thorik, was only of use to his slept group. Yet I survived off the bounty of the land. I worked stone into tool of use. I slayed beasts and ate their flesh raw. I claimed bounty from kill the monsters of the land to add to my 3000 mina, which I had been able to salvage from Aegis. I had be clanless for so long it only seemed appropriate to join a clan where we could work to support each other in these hard times under the irrational rule of King Thorik. Lord Hiebe of the Ironguts became furious over the tyranny of the King. I dont even know if you can call Thorik a King. Hiebe tried to rationalize and plan with the King to make the Kingdom better. King Thorik only listens to his own family. There was no progress. There was tension, bickering, and fighting for weeks. Nothing could persuade the King to better the Kingdom of newly formed Karik. Hiebe finally made the decision to leave Thorik's rule. The Irongut clan, with few exception, ventured out in search of contested land in which we could call home. In this venture we came in to a group of island. On the smaller one of these islands we found a dwarf like dwelling in which resided a citizen by the name of Bislpur. His people had lived in the ground for years. He told of the main island where we reside now. He had hear stories of the ruins from his ancestors. They had said a flying beast with fire as breath attacked the city. We found craters with glowing stones, which suggested the destruction was caused by celestial mights of some sorts. We combine groups with our new found friend, and settled a town. The town soon grew into a city, and the city to the archipelago of Holm. This nation is continuously growing. I see new people everyday. I started a tavern to cater to the people of Holm. I named it Ye Uglygut Tavern and Inn The tavern has been a great success! Im coming up with new meals all the time. I am even in the process of hiring some workers. It is a beautiful tavern. I used some of the ruins to make it. The floor was made out of interesting bricks found on the island. Ill try to keep this journal as up to date as possible. I am very busy with the business and the developing of the young nation.
