  1. Urguani Mining Industry Overhaul

    -14th of The Sun’s Smile, 1555

The mining industry is in dire need of reformation. Currently, free access to the mines is permitting strangers to extract kingdom property unhinged, resulting in a loss of profit for the entirety of Urguan. Thus, a new system proposed by the Ministry of Logistics is in order to ensure that both the Kingdom and its citizens reap the benefits of the mountain alone, with minimal effort for the best outcome. It is with His Majesty’s approval that this new overhaul is implemented, to take effect immediately.

    Extraction of minerals

The Mines of Urguan have been relocated, to accommodate for the new location of the capital. The entrance can be found in the Smithing District. To hinder outsiders from stealing the riches of the mountain, a highly advanced lock is now used to secure the entrance. Citizens of Urguan are permitted to make use of the Forge, and additionally the Mines of Urguan, provided they register as kingdom miners.

    Kingdom miners:

    • Have the right to enter and leave the mines as they please
    • Are required to meet a weekly quota of minerals, to be deposited in a respective chest by the depot
    • Have the right to retain any minerals dug up, so long as the weekly quota has been met
    • Have the right to sell any surplus of minerals directly to the Kingdom, through the Ministry of Logistics
    • Have the right to organize and request Guild Status, in accordance with The Guild Bureau System

To register, contact Yemekar’s Pick or The Foreman General. Failure to meet the weekly quota will result in denied access to the mines, until previous quota has been compensated for in equivalent value, in minerals or minas.

    Processing of minerals

A percentage-based amount of minerals procured each week will be melted down and used in the forging of new tools and armaments, intended for the workforce and the Legion. To ensure quality of craftsmanship, only licensed smiths will be allowed to process kingdom resources. Licensed smiths will receive performance-related pay based on quality and quantity of their crafts. Any citizens with experience in the field of metallurgy and smithing may apply for a license. Apprentices are also welcome to partake in the processing, provided they have clearance from the Ministry of Logistics.

    Thus, licensed smiths:

    • Are granted access to all minerals intended for processing
    • Are expected to smith armaments and tools as requested by the Ministry of Logistics
    • Receive performance-related pay, based on amount and quality
    • Have the right to organize and request Guild Status, in accordance with The Guild Bureau System

Licensed smiths risk losing their licence provided they are found guilty of stealing resources or crafts from the Grand Kingdom, or consecutively fails to uphold their responsibilities as full-time employees of the Grand Kingdom.

The Ministry of Logistics retains the right to monitor and manage the flow of resources intended for processing into tools and armaments for the Grand Kingdom.

As a final note, it is expected that more overhauls will be in order, to affect other economo-infrastructural branches of The Grand Kingdom.

    Signed,

    Yemekar’s Pick Balek Irongut

    The Foreman General Fili Grandaxe

His Majesty, Grand King Kardel Irongut

  4. Balek shuffles through the city, and enters the throne room where a crowd of dwarves mingle. He clears his throat to attract attention, before climbing on top of the table, sharing a comment regarding the ongoing election.

"I've returned, and see my good kin Skippy no longer sitting on the throne of Urguan. The cycle continues, a new leader is to be elected by the Dwedmar, to rule in the lands of Yemekar's Chosen. Yet I also observe the farce that I choose to define this election as. Empty promises and regurgitated pathos will get this kingdom nowhere. I refuse to cast my vote on candidates who are unable or unwilling  to share their respective manifestos with the public of the Kingdom, and I urge the rest to do the same.

Deliver your visions onto us, the public, ye aspiring kings. Explain in detail the solutions that will fix this broken kingdom. For none have earned the right to promise, without first considering the means to meet."

  5. Early in the morning, the sun peeks over the horizon on a far-off shore near warm waters. The waves rocked quietly and steadily, washing over the sandy beach. It seemed like a normal morning, one like any other, where the crabs started skittering over the dunes in search of their next meal, and the seagulls ever so noisily squawking over the bay.

Even still, things were not as usual.

A hand, course and bruised grasped the moist and salty sand near the water, sinking further into the crusted surface as its owner struggled with great effort to drag himself up from the sea water. Another hand claws into the sand, further pulling the limp body up the shore, leaving a trail in the sand behind. The figure rolls over, squinting as the rays of the sun pierce his eyelids, feeling the sting of blessed warmth upon his body. A wheezing sound leaves his throat as he breathes through his nostrils, resulting in coughing where the remaining salt water shoots out from his lungs.

It was a dwarf, short in stature and of rather slim figure, with pale grey skin and deep blue eyes. Only rags remained of whatever he had previously adorned himself in, yet a large, distinctive and beautifully crafted hammer of exceptional origin was clutched to his belt. Slowly he rises up into sitting position, wrinkling his nose as he runs his hand through his ruffled, brown hair, chewy from salt and sweat. He was extremely lucky to be alive, this he was aware of, yet he had little time pondering on the status quo. His parched throat and roaring belly would become that of his demise should he not find sustenance soon. The soaked, dripping rags pulls him down as he tries to stand up, but he regains his footing and clumsily walks off with a limp, ready to further fight for his life, and prepare himself for the road ahead, the road back home.

  6. stormy_sea_by_alexlinde-d3y6mgd.jpg

The stormy sea whipped against the sides of the steam-powered hybrid ship of the Dwarven Navy, the custom-built ship S.S Irongutia, its protective rims quaking beneath the rage of the beast before them, the infamous "Devourer".

In the face of the abyss, Balek stood fast, holding on to the railing as salt water washed violently over his face, cursing in his boiling rage.

    "Dis IS MOI SHIP!"

He roars as yet another tentacle crashes into the port side of dwarven steamer, sending the dwarven deckhands flying, the masts breaking in half. Nothing could prevent the inevitable now, as the ship sunk lower and lower into the foaming sea, the fury of the engine, and hope itself quickly extinguishing with the water gushing into the machinery. As more and more dwarves frantically evacuate from the dwarven steamer, the grip of Balek grows harder around the broken railing.

    "MOOI SHIP!"

He bellows furiously once more, watching another tentacle rise high into the air on starboard side.

    "UUUUURRRGUUUUAAAANIAAAA!"

Is heard from the wreck as the final death blow is delivered by the beast, sending the remnants below into the dark, murky depths.

And just like the Doomforged King before him had sunk below the waves into his gloomy death, Balek Irongut was gone as well. Yet his legacy shall endure.

P.S: Not a PK, but Balek won't be returning for a long time. With the post comes also my resignation from Grand King, t'was a fun run, keep on rocking Urguania:)

Oh, and top kek event, I'd love to see more of this! Good job to anyone involved.

  8. 1. First and foremost, we plan on making a small village on the western part of the island, where we will put the docks and fast travel ship. It will not be very large, but the plan is to make it a small mining/lumber colony (provided we can ever get a second mine, if not, then most likely lumber only). A fort is also to be expected, probably next to the colony, to be utilized by the dwarven legion/navy, in defense of ships, the bay, and the settlements situated on the island.

While the western part is predominantly going to be dwarven land, the middle/eastern parts will have big plots for sale. Guilds and/or factions will be allowed to settle here by purchasing said land, and depending on the deal, either retain complete sovereignty once the debt has been paid, or stay autonomous as a dwarven vassal. Either way, this is a great way to let the more unaffiliated guilds and factions acquire some land of their own without too much hassle, and we already have quite a few interested in going through with this type of deal. I'll send you a list in skype shortly.

    2. We've been rather lazy on the signatures, but I'll send you the list in skype, and ask them to sign if necessary. The Island will obviously be moderated by the dwarves, who will be responsible in keeping it active and relevant, though with the transactions we plan on going through with, activity will not be an issue.

TL;DR: A handful of dwarves will most likely live in the mining colony, while most of the land will be offered to settlers/guilds/factions, for a pretty price.

  9. Letters addressed to various officials of Oren and vassals are sent out, bearing the official seal of the Grand Kingdom.

    “Kazahar, [insert name]

It is first and foremost in the Grand Kingdom’s interest to retain friendly relations with all Descendant Nations of Vailor, and as such, on behalf of the entire Dwarven Kingdom, Grand King Balek Irongut wishes to clarify on the recent hostilities that have arisen since our landing on Vailor.

It has become apparent that several rogue dwarves have openly committed crimes on Oreni land and against her people. Let it be known that said dwarves do not represent the Grand Kingdom of Urguan, and have directly opposed the will of the Grand King. As a result of these recent transgressions, it is now the Grand King’s prime objective to root out these individuals and deal justice upon them. Any and all whom have fell subject to or witnessed said transgressions at the hands of rogue dwarves, are strongly encouraged to approach an Urguani official with information, so the perpetrators can be identified and punished accordingly. If delivered information is deemed crucial to the investigation, a handsome sum of minas will be in order.

As a result of these crimes, The Grand King has also been informed of efforts made by Oreni authorities to ban Dwedmar people from the lands. While it is understandable that measures to prevent more crimes committed by rogue dwarves is an inevitable and sound solution, he strongly encourages the authorities to allow peaceful, law-abiding dwarves, and Urguani Officials visit the settlements without being openly assaulted and or driven off.

Lastly, on behalf of the Grand Kingdom of Urguan, Grand King Balek Irongut, formally apologizes for any inconveniences arisen as a result of recent hostilities. The investigation shall continue, hopefully to a fruitful end. If any more concerns should arise, you are invited to bring them up with the Grand King or his courtiers.

11th of the Deep Cold, 1514

“Oi want dis”, Balek mumbles, placing his finger on the island next to the dwarven kingdom. “Dis land will secure our bay, and allow us tae’ effectiveleh ward our merchant ships once our docks ‘ave been fulleh constructed ‘ere in da capital.”

One of the courtiers proceeds to ask the Grand King why such a large island is needed for the kingdom. “And wot do yeh specificalleh intend on doing with all dis land, yer grace?”

“Quite simple. Closest tu our lands, we shall construct anothah dock fer safe passage between dis n’ da mainland, and secure our own bay. Da island itself ‘olds maneh trees, yet is mostleh infertile, and unsuited fer farming. We’ll plop down eh few lumber mills and send over some moiners to prospect da earth tu look fer suitable locations fer new moines.”

    The courtiers nod in agreement.

“As fer da rest ov da land mass, we’ll probableh sell it off tu peaceful settlers or anothah nation, should dey request it. Quite eh few ‘ave alreadeh expressed interest, and Oi've nay doubt more will want so too.”

The Dwarves of Urguan prepare their steam ships to venture out to this new land.

  11. Tradition means very little if it's a bad tradition that can not be morally justified imo. Someone fill me in though, are private religious institutions now obliged to marry same sex couples, or does this only extend to legally being able to marry with accompanying rights?

  12. Balek stands where the Kal'Varak once laid chained to the ancient dwarven hall, legionnaires surrounding him, scratching their heads in confusion.

"Search fer evidence, fer whoeveh, er wot eveh did this!" he commands. As time passes, murmurs of suspects and theories resonate through the halls, with no actual evidence left in the crystal's wake.

"Defilers!" the High Prophet roars, the clergy's most prized artifacts having been lost.

The Grand King paced back and forth, clutching his hand into a fist, tightening harder and harder with each passing minute. "Dese reckless mongrels, dose 'oo dare challenge da wrath ov Urguan, 'is fureh unleashed, dey shant be granted da merceh ov death. Eh thousand years ov pain upon dem!"

    "FOIND DEM!"

  13. A Dwarven Rider approaches the gates of the Iron Uzg, carrying a sealed letter addressed to the Rex, Vrogak'Gorkil. He eyes the orcs standing on the battlements with caution, proceeding forward toward the gate. He mumbles a few words, watching as an arm of an orcish soldier reaching out from the gate. He places it in the orc's palm, nodding as he trots off on his battle boar. Should the letter make its way to the Rex, it would read:

"Kazahar, Rex Vrogak'Gorkil of the Iron Uzg

Long have we battled to display our dominance and honour on the battlefield, victories and losses for both sides. Yet as time has passed, so has the war grown unnecessary and excessive. This is an offer to put our differences aside, and prevent more bloodshed in the future. To set our differences aside, and talk as equals, king to king, so our people may prosper in peace.

Should you seek to pursue such an agreement, I humbly invite you to Kal'Karaad, or alternatively to neutral grounds, so we may reach mutual reconciliation and understanding.
