  3. Postponing this till next saturday, so we have ample time to prepare and discuss our next move, not mentioning the fact that 4th of April is easter day, which makes it a rather inconvenient date for a major battle.

EDIT: On a side note, DDoS is not going to speed up the process, so please stop, whoever is responsible:)

  4. Grand King Balek Irongut slowly rises to his feet upon hearing Zahrer's speech. He gently taps his staff on the stone pavement as he looks over the amassed crowd. Clearing his throat and rolling his shoulders, he utters a response to the the old grand king.

"It's been eh long toime, friend. Long gone is yer kingship, n' da struggles yeh faced during yer reign We've been at tha brink ov destruction, and lost more dwarves than we 'oo stand 'ere today, can count on our 'ands. But now, we've amassed once more tu rebuild eh Kingdom broken."

"And now, after all dese years absent from da Kingdom,  ye return onleh tu see through t'at our revoival is undone? This is nae'fin but an insult tu yer own people. Tha Grand Kingdom is rising, with or without ye, Zahrer Irongrinder. And it shall with certainty, nae' die at tha' 'ands ov such eh dis'onourable individual as yerself."

"Renounce yer irrational n' baseless assumptions. Seek forgiveness, n' return tu tha Kingdom tae' take part in its restoration, er do nae' return at all",

Balek concludes with a stern look on his face, shaking his head.

  7. The construction of the new kingdom arena issued by Grand King Balek Irongut was well underway. Workers of all social classes spent tireless hours chiseling out and expanding the underground cavern, the sound of hammers striking stone resonated from within the great city. But then, out of the blue, a loud blast could be heard, the pillars of the city shaking violently as the echo boomed out the main gate...

Thousands upon thousands of angry, disgusting spiders spilled forth from a large gash in the wall, the workers running for their lives. Guards were immediately summoned to push back the flow of vermin, but to little avail. The lines of legionnaires moved back further and further, unable to keep them at bay. As they neared the entrance to the main square, the Grand Marshal ordered the tunnels to be sealed immediately, to prevent the further contamination. Rubble and various junk was quickly moved from the square, and stuffed into the tunnel, the spiders pushing hard against the make-shift barricades. The arching entryway is collapsed, sealing off the tunnels for good.

Construction had been delayed, dwarven lives lost in the invasion. The citizens of Kal'Karaad must now plan their next move, in order to rid this menace, to restore the hall below. One can only speculate as to what it will take...

  9. Nothing seemed amiss in the halls of Kal'Karaad. The miners had already headed down the mines earlier this morning, and would not return before midday. Citizens chattered in the square, and the loud hammering of metal from the great forges of the city echoed through the great halls. But another, shy noise graced the capital this day. A low, almost silent but rapidly-paced tapping sound. Behind the walls, from beneath the floor, the ceiling, indeed the very pillars of the city seemed to resonate it.

"Earthquake!" the stark dwarf yells as he skips up and down the square, tugging hard on his locks of hair, the fear festering in his eyes.

"Hogwash!" the other residents claim, shaking their heads as they continue on with their daily chores.

Whatever it is, there is no doubt the source will reveal itself in due time...

    They are coming...

  10. I always say this when we have to put animals down on the farm. Why spend hundreds for chemical injections when a 30 cent bullet will do the job. Lets bring back public executions and beheadings of criminals. Watch the public crime drop. Oh and honestly, reasons we dont do these things anymore is cause as a society we are raising *******.

Lelwut, are you serious? Are we moving back to the dark ages, where people brought their kids to go watch some bloke lob the heads off fellow human beings  (Okay bullets, but honestly what's the difference? Call me a chicken, but /that/ is truly beastly.

  11. I am all for death penalty.

I've had a past where I have come in contact (Unwillingly) with death / dying people quite a few times.
And I can't say I don't like the idea of some (bad) people dying.

I strongly believe in that all bad and evil should die if they are not good enough to keep themselves hidden.
What I mean with this is that I support evolution.

And I disgrace how the weak are kept alive.
So yeah, if one is so weak to get caught in his crimes. He may die.
If one gets caught after his crimes. He may die.

    Think this:

    No mercy for the weak.
    No pity for the dying.
    No tears for the slain.

But I guess this is just my own 'crippled' opinion on the matter.

PS: I'dd be more for torture if that'd be an option.

( this post is gonna get me some angry answers.. )

Oh yes, let us put the weak in extermination camps, conduct horrible experiments on them, and preserve the genes we deem to be "pure". Geez, never heard of that one before...

  12. Mistakes are easily made, leading to the death of innocents, even in our time. While we have come far with our technology, it is not impeccable, and thus I strongly oppose the practice of the death penalty, even in cases where there is no doubt of guilt. Perhaps one day, when or if we ever reach a point where criminology is flawless I would change my mind, but that's not the society we currently live in.

On your point on rehab, the very reason why rehabilitation programs are in use, is to change the minds of said convicts, to help them to a better lifestyle. Regardless of whether they are willing or unwilling to change their ways, this is exactly why rehab is there in the first place. It is also important that once prisoners return to society, they have a better understanding, and are able to take care of themselves via legal means.

[...] Trying to rehabilitate them does not work. How many times have we rehabilitated terrorists, and when they are released, they return back to their country to continue making plans to kill more people?

Rehabilitation does work, it is blatantly obvious if you have a look at the statistics. In the US, more than 4/10 prisoners can be expected to return to prison within 3 years after their probation.

What of systems where rehabilitation is actively used to prevent this? Let's take my home country as an example (Norway). The rate is less than 20%, about twice as low as the one in US. Is it because Americans are statistically speaking more callous than Norwegians? Of course not. Granted, I will admit that there are many factors at play here, but statistically speaking, rehabilitation is far more effective than rock hard penalty without any form of rehab.

I also find your example a bit, if not quite unreasonably extreme. Terrorism is on a whole other level, but I agree that most terrorists cannot be rehabilitated effectively. Usually, in cases of terrorism, offenders rarely get the chance to see daylight again anyway, for obvious reasons.

  13. I've always been a strong advocate of rehabilitation rather than punishment, simply because the latter in most cases doesn't work effectively. In cases of particularly heinous crimes, such as homicide, signing the offender off to die is not only more expensive (legal expenses, evaluations etc), it defeats its own purpose. Why would you solve a murder, with another murder?  In my opinion, it is far more effective to lock them up for an extensive period of their lives (if not the rest of their lives), and have them understand that their actions were wrong.

Another issue, which we see time and time again, are cases where innocent suspects are found guilty, and sentenced to die. Then a good while later, long after they've been put to rest, new evidence shows up, pointing in another direction. Congratulations, an innocent civilian is dead, and the offender is still on the loose. Whereas with a jail sentence, at least the convicted will have whatever is left of his/her life outside the walls, and hopefully ample compensation for time spent behind bars.

  14. A letter adorned with the Seal of Urguan is sent out to each and every member of the Ord'Umar, containing information on the first weekly senate meeting.

[This meeting is scheduled for Sunday 03.15.15, 4 PM EST.]

  15. The night grows colder as the horns of Kal'Karaad sound in the deep. The news quickly spread throughout the extensive subterranean capital of the dwarves, that a new Grand King has been elected by the Senate of Hammers. As more and more people gather in the square, Balek the First Irongut, son of Thrag, son of Hiebe, climbs up on a nearby crate, leaning on to his staff as he scours the masses. Grandaxes, Ironguts, Irehearts, Doomforge, many had come to watch Balek speak about the future of their nation. Balek bites his teeth together as he raises a hand firmly, holding it up in front of him to silence the masses. Muttering turns to quiet breaths of air as they all look to Balek. The new King scratches his chin as he clears his throat.

((Translated into common, for an easier read))

"There was a time back in the old days, when I wandered the halls of Kal'Karik as a young beardling. A time I remember well, a time of peace and prosperity. Our nation was merry back then. Laughter filled the streets, the scent of freshly baked bread, and thick smoke rising to the ceiling as the great forges burnt with ire day in and day out. A time of craftsmanship, of wealth as far as the eye could see, not just in precious gems and ore, but in the very faces of the people. I remember I was happy then, at peace.

Why do I tell you this, fellow brothers? Why do we reminiscent the past, and dream of the old, golden age? Is it because we long for what we had before? Indeed. It all seemed so... simple. Perfect.

Today, I have been elected as the new Grand King of Urguan, by the senate of Hammers. By you, the clans of our great Father. And yet, I feel not a pride in my heart, no excitement, no joy. I feel grief. My heart goes out, not only to those we have recently lost in battle, not only to Grand King Hodir Doomforge, whom fought bravely to defend the navy of this Kingdom, no. It goes to my fellow Dwedmar, and the whole of our nation. It has become appallingly obvious to me, that we many of us have lost our fervor. Where is the old fire that burnt with fury in every heart of this populace? Where is the dedication and commitment so many of us held before? Now it seems we are truly lost.

We stand at a crossroad now. War is tearing this society apart, and while occasional victories may warm our hearts, they do not mend our wounds. Our economy lies crippled, and our capital drained, and this war only makes it worse. And still, even now, we do nothing but think back to the old days. "Everything was so much better back then..."

Let me give you a wake up call, sons of Urguan. The past is gone. The now, is happening this very moment. No words or thoughts can bring back that which you cherished, but actions, and stone hard devotion in the face of hopelessness can. What comes, goes, and while it may be true that we never  will return to the the good old times, we should, with strength and dedication, do whatever is in our power, to do what we can in sculpting a future worth living for.

I will ask you all, not as Grand King, not as Irongut, and not as Cave Dwarf, but as a fellow Dwed, to assist me, and each other, to help shape the future of our nation, and reclaim our rightful prosperity! Guilds shall be restored, and wealth shall once more flood our great Kingdom. Our Legions will rise again, and echo throughout the history of this world. Take this last chance of redemption in the face of our Gods, and hold it close to your heart. Know that every strike with that hammer, or every word written in that book, or every single one of the shiniest jewelry forged, you helped our Grand Nation back on its feet again!

    OOC:

Yepp, it's that time of the month again, a new king. Seeing as I was the only candidate, well... let's have a shot at this. Stay tuned for upcoming changes (hopefully tomorrow)!
