  1. WTB moar goblins. How am I supposed to write about batshit crazy goblins if we haz none?

  2. Nope, cannon. In our last thread someone pointed out that the ad thing was linking your spelling to nikon cameras. So he suggested we spell it as Cannon to prevent confusion. I took his suggestion to heart and deliberately spelled it this way as per his request.
  3. Well I had started an index with links too all of the magic cannons in the part I post, so in theory this didn't need a sticky, but I guess it couldn't hurt.
  4. Im interested to see the ruins you'll come up with. Should be really cool to see, can't wait.
  5. Yes, though both spells will not be mechanically possible until the plug-in is released. Meaning until then, you will have to find some other way to make your Ice. Maybe a GM will be nice and assist you?
  6. Certainly sounds like an interesting idea, the Dwarves could find it and start translating it and such. Enchantment runes, as I mentioned, will be under strict control until we know how to deal with the enchantment system. Other than that though, warding Runes, traps runes ect. can be discovered certainly. It falls under the same rules as the rest of the magic: Make sure you have a legitimate source for the knowledge (like uncovered ruins) and that you are not powergaming with what you have (no atomic-nuke runes or runes that make walls unbreachable).
  7. Added a Link Index for other Magic Cannon posts. Right now; A link to Magic Cannon Part II. Find the Index at the very top of the original post in this thread.
  8. Link to Magic Cannon Part I (and Magic Cannon Index) Greetings again, Asulon, from the Magic Team! We are pleased to announce the next update in Magic Lore: Today, we have a definitive system for Rune Magic, as well as mass responses to magic suggestions! Please note, that some more recent magic suggestions may still be going under review, or have not been looked at yet, so if you didn't receive a response, please be patient. If you were accepted, congratulations! You had an awesome idea and it fit into our server magic lore! We look forward to seeing how it adds to server RP. If your concept was denied, please do not worry. We simply felt that, for one reason or another, your magic idea would not work well with the lore already put in place for the server. We are sorry, but don't let this discourage you from presenting future ideas! Without further delay, read the spoiler for the cannon lore concerning Rune Magic: Well there's your cannon for Runes. Now I am sure you have questions about this, and more. So onto our Q&A session for this post: What is the status of the Magic Application, how will it work, will it have a team, ect.? Who gets what Runes right now? Combat Magic, is it ok? I have been hearing things about Archtypes and Subtypes... It is possible there are some questions of yours I did not answer. Sadly it is hard to get all these questions in one place. To make it easier on me, if you have a question you would like to see answered in the next Q&A, PM it to me. If it requires an immediate response, Ill send one as soon as I can (there is a good chance some questions will need to be brought up with the M-Team as a whole before I can answer them) and still include said question in the next Q&A. That's all for now folks, next time we hope to have the Magic Application ready for you! ~~~ Link to Magic Cannon Part I
  9. More good news: The magical aspects of this idea have been approved by the Magic Team! Huzzah! This includes snowball spam. In fact, you may be required to lob at least one snow ball at someone's face a day, for our amusement. No exceptions will be made for Frost Witches stuck in hot climates, find a way!
  10. I remember hearing a story to the effect of "We don't want your Volsung to become a Frost Witch because we don't want her to be a temptress." Seeing as how Brunhylde was the Frost Witch connection to the Volsung, I don't know why you have to ask if the Volsung are still involved. That being said, I understand Urara did have a plan for connecting the tying in the Frost Witch with the Volsung anyways. If she hasn't shared that plan with you yet though, I assume she has reason for it. So I would wait to hear from her. If you do not hear from her, you can probably assume she abandoned that plan and will not be tying the Frost Witch with the Volsung.
  11. Holy god, Orc woman frost witch, that would be amazing! Would her disguise form turn her into a beautiful lady, or an ugly orc? There has to be a way to tempt Orc men somehow right?
  12. We are working on a system to prove training as we develop the application. At this time, I do not have a complete answer for you, so I do not want to reveal too much without it being incomplete. However, I intend to put a little more information concerning the Magic App in the next Magic Canon post Q&A, by then we should have a more refined idea of what we will expect and I can answer your question with more complete information.
  13. It can happen, as in it is conceivably possible. We are trying to leave as much open to the public as possible, and just adjust how the spells you use work so that it all remains balanced. As long as everything is kept in check, it's ok. We want to leave some creative freedom open to people, but we also need to monitor it all to ensure it is balanced. That being said, we are going through magic suggestions and proposals. If you wish to have a magical ability that is not already within our lore, you will have to propose it appropriately. This will allow us to review it, ensure that it fits our lore, is not overpowered, ect. before letting it through. This doesn't have to be an entirely new magical archtype, it can just be a new spell/ritual which may have never been visited before and you want to make sure it's ok to be casting.
  14. They shouldn't be. I personally deny applications in which the applicant was an expert swordsman from the get go. moderate training is acceptable, but no one is getting through with "I fought eleventy-twelven battles and have pro skillz with mah blade brah." at best they "practiced with a wooden sword occassionally growing up." or something that reflects introductory level knowledge at best. I do look at my fellow A-Team members reviews from time to time to ensure we are all on the same track, in this regard we generally share the same denial rates for these reasons. If you see an application that proves contrary to this you should link it to me immediately so we can review it and handle the situation appropriately.
  15. Yes, everyone can learn it. Magic became rare in society due to it be phased out for inefficiency. It takes time, effort, and careful experimentation to progress through the magical arts, and at first everyone upheld magical studies. However, as time passed and populations grew into larger scale societies magic took too long learn to support the masses. Society found it was more efficient (and simpler) to learn agriculture to feed their people, rather than study magic for far longer to achieve the same product. A man could be killed as easily with a sword or bow as with a fire bar, but the sword and bow were easier to teach and a garrison of troops could learn combat in half as many years. As society pushed itself towards this efficiency, masters of the magical arts became rarer and more mysterious. It is only more recently, now that magic users are few and far between, that society is understanding the benefits of intermingling magical methods with non-magical means. People are more willing to pick up apprenticeships now to help support their society. The magic using caste will never be the dominant force that it was in the early stages of the world, but they are in no risk of dying out either.
  16. Unfortunately I believe you are in the minority here, however text-RP magic will still be a possibility. There is much you could conceivably do that will not end up being supported by the plug-in, so people will end up having to continue text-based spell craft anyways. That being said, if you have suggestions as to how you would like the plug-in to be handled, PM them to me, I would love to hear them and will bring them into consideration, especially if you make a strong argument for your ideas.
  17. Generally speaking yes. It would be no different than myself coming in as a trained sword user where others must start at the beginning. You must legitimately learn the magic in game like the rest of us.
  18. Define "Born" with magical powers. Do you mean born with the innate trained knowledge and affinity for casting spells that others would have to train and learn?
  19. That's fine, just wasn't sure if there was a problem at hand that needed to be solved prior to the sticky.
  20. Out of curiosity, is there any particular reason why this is still pending a sticky? Something that I need to address?
  21. Hmm? Well, I can vouch for the stories legitimacy... because I am on the Magic Team and we wrote it as legitimate. You character has a book of this lore in game? Might I see the text in that document? I was not aware there were books with this story in game, indeed I do not believe any of us among the Magic Team were aware that someone had written this all down IC.
  22. Well I appreciate your opinion on the story and believe me I had much of the same thoughts when writing it. However it was left deliberately short and vague. We felt that becoming too detailed and specific would cause too many problems and was what we were trying to avoid in our Origin story. As a result the origin story contained only the necessary information and that was it. In this way, as few problems as possible will arise from the sudden induction of this new cannon. So, despite the misconception, this is in fact an Official Lore Post by the M-Team, thus the sticky request. It is not a "Hey what do you think" thread, though we certainly appreciate any feedback such as that which Ouity provided and would love to hear good, meaty questions for the next Q&A. So again, I would like a sticky for this official lore post before it becomes buried and people have to dig in order to have access to it. You can probably remove the sticky on "Plead about Magic Lore" at this point, seeing as how we have moved past the original point of that topic, though I would double check with Blundermore before doing that.
  23. ...This is an official post. The OP is canon. I am confused by what you mean exactly Hiebe? Are new players now unable to view the Lore forums? Do you now have to be a member of the forums for X amount of time before this forum becomes visible?
  24. Still waiting for a response to the sticky request  @Kairu That all really depends on who is saying what. If they copy-pasta the lore, odds are they are powergaming. However there are conceivably some situations where a determined someone could learns pieces of this over time and research. If you look at it basically, much of it can be implied and gathered by speaking to the archtypes and reading accounts of various ruins back in Aegis. @Ouity Your suggestions regarding druid lore will be taken into consideration. At the moment however we will try to move forward with our work and tackle the next subject (Ironically enough being suggestions for magic lore) and hope to cover more ground before we begin considering making amendments to the Origin story. However once we finish all the ground work I intend to make a medium for people to make suggestions to change established lore or add new lore and then I expect to see your ideas there.
  25. Like I mentioned in the Q&A the next part we intend to work on is taking people's magic idea suggestions and deciding what among those to make canon or deny. It might be that we deny all of them, but if any are accepted they will certainly be added into the canon. Odds are the next thread, Part II, will be about any of these suggestion/ideas that we accept. If we do not accept any, then we will probably skip over that and proceed to the next phase. In this case Part II might address the Plug-in, or (more likely) how spells should be RPed to prevent powergaming. That is something I think is incredibly important for the player base to have. If you have something else you would like to see in Part II or any of the Parts that will follow it, feel free to make them and we will see what we can do!
