I feel that they should be limited, but not removed entirely - People still need to buy the odd loaf of bread in an emergency, and they can't do that if the shopkeeper or one an employee of them isn't there. Perhaps if it was so that shops were limited to a type of item. Say each city or town had a general store that sells your generic items that you may need, like bread, wooden tools and planks and things, but at a relatively high price so that the player-owned shops will be favoured. Then you could have more specialised stores, like Blacksmiths who could sell Tools and other metal-work, construction shops that will have wooden logs, cobblestone and other building materials, Valuables stores that have Diamonds, Gold and any other rare items and then food stores, to name a few. That would make more jobs for people as the shop owners can't be there all the time and would need to hire assistants, and it also makes it more RP since there will be an actual person behind the counter.

I think there should be a few basic spells that almost everyone from any race can do, like one to be able to cook a pork chop without using a furnace, or something like that. However, I feel that the more offensive/complex spells should be limited to a select few people from each race that specifically train in that area. And things like Lightning bolts should be for say, one or two people who are the most advanced in their field for each race. I don't think every other mage should be able to shoot lightning or create portals across the whole map - That should be down to the best of them.
