These are skype logs of me explaining to my privy-council in Oren why I permakilled my character when killed by the High Elves

Why am I showing this to you? Because I'm hoping that some people will see it and see it as a reminder of what LoTC really is. Dynamic, go with the flow RP. A conglomeration of countless stories and decisions by hundreds of people that put us in the situations we play through.

Did I plan on dying ? Certainly not, Was I happy about it? Not really. But the event was cool, it was spontaneous, it felt like for the first time in a long goddamn time that I was playing on the LoTC that I used to enjoy so much.

My characters death will undoubtedly have an impact on the server in the weeks to come. Perhaps even months. He was a guy that genuinely wanted peace in all of Athera, but used war as a means to get there. He was a guy with goals that in my mind OOCly would end up benefiting the server. He had ideas that I personally were attached to, that I had worked hard on. And he died anyway, because of the actions of just a few players. Because in RP, he's just a guy like everyone else. Those few players have changed everything. And that's what so awesome. That's why I PK'd.

Please consider that as players, none of us are better than the other. Not really. Being in a higher position in roleplay does not grant you special privileges or rights over other players. LoTC is about everyone being able to contribute to the story, not just the select few who rule over the rest. From the King who wanted to rule the world, to the disgruntled Elf that got upset he was being bossed around by a human. Everyone should be able to make an impact. Please remember that.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Andrik Vydra was a paranoid man.

The man was almost never seen without a strong guard, valiant and brave men all, who would without a moments hesitation die for their King.

One might say he was the most careful and elusive Monarch Oren had ever seen. A man deemed the best protected in all of Athera.

Who could think, that in the city of the High Elves, surrounded by almost twenty of his most loyal men and Lords -

- he met his grisly end, burnt to a crisp by lava, bubbling from the very ground upon which he stood?

His nature was stoic, a man of iron will. He had plans of such grandiose for the future that few can truly visualize their immensity.

None of this saved him from melting into nothing but ash, along with the men who fell victim by his side.

So ended the reign of King Andrik Vydra, first of his name.

Do not return to Oren until you have accomplished the goals set out by your liege. Failure is a sure sign of incompetence, and the Crown will react appropriately."

As Commanders of the 1st Adrian, 2nd Akovian, and 4th Northern Regiments respectively; You are all hereby recalled to the capital of Petrus to meet with the King on matters most urgent. Present yourselves immediately. "

Haelun’or,

Your doctrine of this “Emerald Dominion” is most concerning to us. It is my obligation to inform you as former allies in war that the attempted domination of your fellow elf-kind is deemed as unacceptable when considering the interests of the Elven people as as whole, the Kingdom of Oren, and Athera as a realm. Humanity has been watching closely and finds itself more at unease with each passing edict of supposed High Elven supremacy and totalitarian rule.

You are ordered to immediately cease and desist any attempts to further subjugate your neighbors, or to nationalize the Elven race into a single conglomerate.

This is not a request.

"Oren has no desire for this conflict. But the crimes of the false state of Aesterwald against our people ring fresh in our minds. The North shall NEVER again be a state that claims sovereignty as an independent nation. Oren will NEVER relinquish hold of any of our reclaimed human colonies. And I, Andrik of the House Vydra, protector of the Reformed Kingdom of Oren, will NEVER give in to peace terms as deplorable as these. There shall be no negotiations, no parlay, and no mercy until I have accomplished what I swore to do.

Mark my words, Dwarf King. The North shall be under the dominion of Humanity, and until the day that Hiebenhall and Hanseti are in our hands there shall never be peace. "

In the Grand City of Petrus, capital and crown jewel of the Reformed Kingdom of Oren, reigned King Andrik Vydra.

From his battlements did he watch over his city, his people, deep in thought. His cold, emotionless gaze was locked - into the distance did he stare - unflinching and stalwart as a stone wall.

The sound of footsteps behind him alerted him to the presence of others, he made no move to turn and address them.

“Your Grace…” came a raspy voice.

Andrik rolled his shoulders, closing his eyes briefly. There was a fine, fresh scent about the air that day. He drummed his fingers against the ramparts, waiting.

“The Second and First Regiments were turned back at Hiebenhall. The walls could not be breached.”

Not the news he had wanted to hear.

He turned then, the King, and looked directly into the eyes of the man before him. By the looks a new ensign with the Akovian Regiment. His once proud tabard of gold and red was torn and dirty, a look of shame on his face.

“Casualties?”

“Eleven men lost, a few more then that wounded. We were able to retreat with most of our forc-”

A hand held up, demanding silence. The man fell quiet as Andrik lowered his hand.

“Send the rest.”

“Your Grace?” the man replied, seemingly confused.

Andrik sighed, turning his back to the man. He again began to admire the splendor of the city that he ruled.

“When next we meet the Dwarf kind on the field…”

The steady, methodical sound of fingers drumming against surface began again.

“Send everybody.”

Andrik allowed the smallest of smiles. It seemed that the war would be one worth his time after all.

From the Orenian Capital City of Petrus, scores of birds flew - all bearing messages to individuals all across the realm. From the heavily fortified gates of the city did men on swift mounts spill forth, delivering their announcements to every civilized corner of the world.

"Denizens of Athera!" they would shout,

"It is my pleasure to officially invite all who hear to the coronation of His Majesty, King Andrik Vydra of Oren in a few elven days!

It is the Kings wish that all in Athera, be they Dwarf or Elf, pagan or true believer, attend this coronation!

All hostilities with any group shall be suspended in the Kingdom of Oren itself, for the duration of the festival and the day upon which it is held.

To the Dwarven King, his Lords and people: You are all invited to come with no fear for your lives, as this is a joyous occasion that has the King seeking terms of peace and reconciliation.

To those Self-Proclaimed Lords and Kings who have not yet been brought under the banner of Orenia: The King beseeches that you attend this coronation and the festivals thereafter with as many people as may want to attend to witness the splendor of Petrus. The King wishes to speak to those Lords who consider themselves independent, so that terms may be negotiated regarding incorporation and vassalization.

To the High Elves of Haelun'or, the Sohear who holds it, and any High Elven Subjects: So recently our brave allies in war, the King does formally and with great pleasure invite all High Elves to the city, to not only witness the momentous occasion that will take place, but also hopefully to mend old wounds and create new friendships.

To the peace loving Halflings: The King has great desire to meet any and all half-folk, to the purpose of cultivating future relationships as well as demonstrating that Oren is not a nation of war-mongers, but a prosperous Kingdom that has a similar love for peace as the Halfling people.

To the Orcs of the Uzg and its new Rex: Any Orc is free to attend the festivities, so long as he deigns not to break the Kings peace and follows the instructions of the Kings peacekeepers.

To all recognized nobility within the Kingdom: All Lords are expected to attend, or send a proxy in their stead should it not be possible. The First Adrian Regiment, the Order of St. Amyas, and any levy raised by any Lord are invited to attend in whatever capacity they desire, except they must attend as civilians as the Kings city may not be patrolled by any standing military other then his own Second Regiment of Akovia. It is highly encouraged that Lords come with all the small folk available to them, so as to allow them to partake in the festivities and witness the coronation of the King.

To any Sovereign nation, guild, or wanderers that have not yet been addressed: All are welcome to the Kings city for his coronation, and may come with no fear for their lives regardless of current political relations or past crimes. The day of the coronation shall be one of utter neutrality, with no persecution of guests lest they commit a crime in the city itself during the festivities.

So come one, come all to Petrus! Witness the glory of Humanity! Rekindle old friendships, put to the grave old rivalries for with his coronation the King plans to harken in Athera an age of peace and prosperity such that the world has never seen before! Hail Oren! Hail Vydra!"

To any Dwarf Lord, Would be King, or Nord Lord,

The Kingdom of Oren hereby dictates its final and non negotiable terms for peace.

1. Any Northern holding that is not currently under the direct control of either the Northern Commonwealth or the Reformed Kingdom of Oren is to immediately surrender, vacate its dwelling, and transfer ownership to Oren. Inhabitants shall either relocate to the Kingdom of Oren should they be human, the Kingdom of Urguan if they are Dwarven, or any such else place they decide, so long as it is not the North.

2. The Dwarven Hold of Eastpoint -and any such forts like it- shall be dismantled, ownership of the plot to be transferred to the Kingdom of Oren.

The Kingdom of Oren hereby dictates the following terms as negotiable.

1. War Reparations in the form of two crates (stacks) of iron blocks from each Dwarven Lord or Nordlord that provided assistance to the Kingdom of Urguan in the war against Orenia and the state of Haelunor.

Failure to comply to these terms will result in your extermination.

You have two elven days to consider. No response will be taken as refusal.

From the capital city of Petrus, the epicenter of Humanity and seat of King Andrik Vydra, birds numbering in the scores and messengers mounted on swift destriers are scattered in every direction.

Letters, penned originally by his Majesty and copied by his scribes go out to every recognized Lord, Military Commander, and Mercenary that serves the King. They read as follows.

“Fellow Men of Oren,

It is upon this day, for the first time since my ascension to the throne of Oren, that I formally call to arms the banners and swords of the Kingdom of Oren for the First Orenian War Games. Immediately, and within the Elven Day of this missive being read; every Lord, Commander, and Captain that serves the Crown is called to the mustering grounds outside Petrus, bearing tents and with the full number of fighting men that they can muster.

You will be given a space to pitch your tents, and a series of events will be held over multiple elven days to gauge our readiness in times of war as well as celebrate the reunification of Humanity. Your men will train, fight, and drink with his fellow soldiers from other regions in the first gathering of all our fighting strength since the time of Tuvya. Great harvest have been brought forth to feed the droves of Horen's Ilk, and rivers worth of ale and wine stands ready to be tapped. Be vigilant, be fierce, and be ready to display your worth to the King of Men.

Any Vassals or hirelings that are not in attendance will be punished severely.
