  1. Throdo is exceptionally committed; I'd argue moreso than any other applicant you have right now. I'd compare him to someone like  Ever, or Freya. Players like Throdo make great GM's because they are actively striving to help out on the server its self. Consider him this time, seriously consider him this time.

  2. A great choice for GM given his cool head, impartiality to OOC politics, kind demeanor and apt ability. Aengoth could do an excellent job with the position and is an easy pick; there's little to no controversy behind him and he lacks the temperament to cause said controversy. While his experience may be lacking, I believe his maturity and selflessness makes him a strong candidate all the same. +1

Cracker summed this more elegantly than I have the words for. I'd choose Aengoth for GM because he's rational, and likely one of the most reasonable players we have. I trust his judgement more than anyone else in the community, and I think his mentality is perfect for the GM team. He's able to see where changes should be made, and where they shouldn't. In essence, he's smart and actually thinks things through. Add him; get him in on the discussion.

  3. I can't speak much about her rebellion; I had already stopped logging in by that point. I don't think a valid excuse is "Last time she only got accepted because her friends". That's on Tythus, not her. Also realize it's a full team of GM's that accepted her.

I agree with Aislinn, I feel like a lot of people that are stating his words have no merit or are saying that he is making up excuses to not let her in are simply not seeing things for how they really were because they obviously are her friends. I agree with everyone that Gemmy is a good person and extremely kind. However, I believe she shouldn't be added back on the team for a variety of reasons including that she was not in any way qualified for the position at all and if I remember correctly was promoted to FM Lead by Tythus out of the blue without anyone else having a say in the matter. Besides being promoted without any real reason to being given the position, Gemmy also did a piss poor job in managing the FM Team as previously stated. Many of the FM's did horrible jobs and a great majority were all from the same group of friends that she often role played with every single day. Many of the players/friends of hers were given the title of FM without really knowing the responsibilities that came with the position and just like Gemmy herself, did not do their job correctly at all.

Charles, that is about the most vague criticism I've ever seen, so I'm gonna try and follow up on it here. Those all seem like fair points if you can back them up.

She wasn't qualified for the position at all? As I recall, the goal was to find someone already on the FM team to take over as team lead, and become a GM. I'm not positive on this, but as I recall the choices on the team at that time were Arik, Ski (ya ******* right), and Volutional. Whether it was nepotism or merit that got her the position, I think the FM's who worked with her would agree she did just fine - I know this because I tried **** talking her once, and was promptly put in my place.

Which ones? Dandan? He's about the only one I remember getting chosen out of favoritism, and he turned into one of the better FM's we had. Lots of apps were denied back then, and other apps were accepted. I have no recollection of these "horrible FM's". Skyyo, maybe.

Gross overstatement, with nothing factual to actually back it up. Don't write sentences like these.

One such example is how she blatantly threatened a senior GM when they told her no on an issue they were already handling, in response to this she threatened to get Tythus to back her up if they didn't consent to what she had wanted.

This sounds like it could be something, care to elaborate? You're not going to hurt anyones feelings by using names. For that matter, you didn't even disclose the situation it's self. "There was this time with these people and she went and got tythus to back her up".

Gemmy openly used her position as a staff member, mainly as a GM, to try and strong arm her way into leading Oren at the time while others who were not staff members were trying to do things rply in hopes of gaining control over Oren. Along with this she gave land plots to many of her friends and this caused a lot of people to support her character in rp because she was able to secure regioned areas for players that she wanted support from.

Okay, so this one I've heard a few times, I'd like to see someone expanded on it. How did she try to take over Oren OOCly? Who did she give land plots out to, so that they would support her? Pretty much, what the hell is the situation, apart from blank accusations with no actual substance.

    tl;dr
If you don't want gemmy as a GM, that's cool. Just say -1. If you're going to try and give a reason for your -1, give a reason for it. Statements without any backing are meaningless, and they manipulate people who aren't smart enough to form opinions for themselves. I'm not saying Gemmy is the be-all end-all GM of the ages here, but I'm obviously gonna back her up when she's taking undeserved ****.

  4. I'd say those are fair points raised, but the trial period is in place for a reason. We aren't handing her any team leads just yet, and I'd argue she did a bang up job with modreqs and her other duties.

There are worse things for the GM team than someone who is hardworking, friendly, and cooperative. We've had a massive amount of arrogant, self-absorbed GM's trying to shift the scape of the game; what's the loss in adding someone who is willing to build a relationship with the community.

Aislinn, you've been passed up a few times for GM for reasons I'm not exactly clear on. I'd bet you probably think nothing of the staff's decision; I'd bet you downright disagree with it. The question then is whether or not you'd make a good GM despite your faults. Is an intelligent, concise, and to-the-point guy still worth the job even if he goes against the grain, and pisses everyone off? Probably.

Tl;Dr - The benefits of someone who is intelligent, cooperative, and friendly far outweigh any potential bias they might hold. I think you're also exaggerating the extents of her nepotism. Add back Gemmy, she's a kind lass who wants to help with exactly what she outlined.

  5. why would a country want to put themselves at a deficit? That pretty much equates to them spending more money than they have. I guess it kind of depends on how the country is using this money to put themselves at a deficit. (i wont pretend to know **** all about national budgeting)

is there anymore to the question? If a country is investing more money than they have, putting them at a deficit, they likely expect those investments to mature well. There's no reason a country would put its self at a deficit if it didn't see something to gain.

You'd likely know better if you're taking a course on this ****

edit: or ****, I guess they could just be spending more on everything in general... alright, well as it turns out I don't know **** about economics.

  6. Why avoid a nation and live out in the middle of nowhere through this charter system when you can just ask a nation for land within their borders OOC or IC?

Are you actually that against nations that you see no other option but the Charter system?

That's a good point, nations should be the center of rp, and it's great that we've decided to address this. The problem is that instead of placing the burden on the nation, where it should be, we're now placing it on the guilds. The nation should be the one trying to retain and appease these guilds, much like a government in real life; it's responsibility is to its people. At the moment if you have your pick of Oren, Dwarves, and Woodelves. These nations are perpetually ran by inactive but revered members, who at most sometimes start a war. I'm about ready for a leader who is focused on the state of his own nation, and driving rp within it.

So yeah, we do need to address the stagnation we're seeing in these nations, but you're starting in the wrong spot.

  7. I agree with Cyndikate, and firmly believe that LotC should be playable without the forums. This is taking ooc restriction to a whole new level on something I don't think is an issue to begin with. Realistically, we implemented this to centralize RP, set a standard for guilds and organizations, and keep Vailor looking clean. All are very good goals that we should be striving towards, but inhibiting rp is not the answer, I'd wager it's never the answer.

I like that we're trying stuff, I like that we're deciding a direction for our server; more discussion needs to happen, more solutions need to be discussed. Sorry, I think this is bad. I read the charter app and cringed - like, **** man, just let me rp ya' know?

  8. Keep it in game. I'm disappointed in this, I really hope you guys thought this through.

How am I supposed to be a special snow flake with my own fortress outside of the human capital now?

You imply this is a bad thing, care to expand on it? People going off and doing their own stuff is what makes this world dynamic, do you really not believe that?

If you guys are really complaining about freebuild, just ask the leader of the plot you want and see if you can get perms in the region and just find a forest or something to hunker down in away from everybody. Not that hard, just communicate.

The problem comes when pretty much everything on the server is regioned, expanding well past any settlements. There's so much open forest in every one of these maps, teeming with opportunities for even just little events, or easter eggs. You're not allowing the world to be fleshed out by its players, you're regionning it off for the protection and benefit of a select few.

  10. If the area around the CT was completely freebuild, I don't I would be surprised at all with how the players  treat it.

As an aside, Fast Travel will be implemented soon , so for now enjoy exploring.

    Then you really don't have any faith in the playerbase to follow the literal, key component of the server;

roleplay as if you were in character.

Regions have been present since I started playing, and they're great for capitals and establishments, but they suck so much life from the world when they just cover forests over forests. I'd expressly make an order of bandits committed to raiding hideous structures (or inversely, an architects guild?) if you think the clutter would prove unbearable.

Bottom line is we need to start holding each other to a standard again. Your contribution doesn't come from your forum posts, it comes from how you immerse yourself in game. Joke all you like, the most fun you've had on this server was when you were most immersed. Skype, Teamspeak, and the forums have all pretty much replaced the server at this point, and we have a pretty large gaming community as a result. Awesome. As a result, we've created a cesspool of skype chats that run everything. Not awesome.

I mention this because I believe if we hold each other accountable, the state of things will increase with it. People don't scar and do stupid **** when they're immersed and living their characters life. Needs work, but we have the minds for it.

(ill add i think fast travel and a massive world is a sick idea.)

  11. Well no **** the wild freebuilds looked bad, they're way out in the middle of nowhere. If you left the area just outside the CT freebuild, I think you'd be surprised how decent the playerbase would keep it.

If nothing else, add some decent raiding rules so you can have bandits and brigands go loot and burn ugly structures.

    Bottom line; regions restrict everything.

I know it's fun to discredit cyndikates ideas, but at very least ponder them, she's really onto something we should be contemplating.

  12. My pockets.. They're... They're filling!

MrGreene is hard working, honest, and has a good understanding of the server. If he's been playing, he's been helping out in some way or another; it's clear we have him for a while more yet.

    +1 pour champ de patate
