  1. I don't mean to talk in circles, but even after your previous post, I still must say that the end result is, basically, Druidism. I'll also go into further detail and relate with examples. There is a different method to achieve the magical feats, sure, but the appearance is Druidism. Druids "nurture plants and affect their growth using the Fay to produce hard, gnarled barks and resource enriched plants to be cultivated for domestic use as well as defensive use."

The Fayen act much like a similar ability of the Druids as sort of "tree-guardians," only, we call them Treants.

The way beasts respond in this magic seems almost identical to how they respond to Druidism. "Beasts are dominated for short periods of time. The controlling of beasts isn't really a combat thing as no beast will fight blindly without respect. Instead of calming an animal to teach it Arbiters [Druids] exact dominance over them over a period of time" in a very similar fashion. Now, beasts respond to Druids based on the Druid's strength of their connection to Nature, but the beast doesn't blindly follow the Druid, either. "The beast can be empowered, giving them increased capability in combat." This part, I don't comprehend too awful well... but I'm taking it as if the beast gains special abilities from the Arbiter? If so, then I suppose that's a divergence in that Druid influence over beasts doesn't change them at all.

I don't agree that the extent of Druid elements is only basic. This magic performs feats of Druidism, only it does so by much different means. Instead of having to have a direct connection (attunement) to Nature, the Arbiters control "pestilence" (which, here, this seems to be a window into Necromancy) to influence Nature. Again, I like the concept and the meat of this lore, I just can't get behind it because it is, as I see it, "Druidism through a Necromancer's window."

  2. I like the lore and the concept, to be honest. However, looking at the magic, it is much too close to Druidism. The only access to controlling Nature in any way (even to the slightly lesser extent than Druidism that you have in this lore) is only accessible through being attuned to Nature through Druidism. I don't have qualms with adding more kinds of magic, but this isn't unique enough. The Nature domain (commanding animals and growing plants/ tree-like golems) is taken care of by Druid magic, and Necromancy already controls corruption. Yeah, the methods are slightly different and this magic doesn't quite line up intrusively, but it is still intrusive to these existing magic types.

  3. MC name: Werbles

    Forum name: Callax

    Skype Name: dylan.judy

    What is your timezone? EST

How do you wish to work on the wiki? (Media, proof checking, writing, etc): I am somewhat of a perfectionist, so I'd be apt to do proof-checking and updating as well as (re) organizing and formatting. I'd specifically like to work on/update the guilds section as well as add and update general lore and story from the forums. Other than that, I wish to help out where I can, however I can, whenever I can.

Have you worked on the wiki before?: Quite some time ago, I kept up with the Druid wiki pages with updates and lore. Other than that, I have not.

Do you have a basic understanding of lore?: Most certainly; I've been around for awhile and have at least a basic understanding.

  4. In-game name: Werbles

    Roleplay name: Callax

    Skype (PM if desirable): dylan.judy

Do you belong to any other guilds (and if so, which?): Yes, the Druidic Order.

Note: I wonder that should I obtain a coat, might I tailor it to a green; the color is more my flavour. Ah, and I have a hat.

  5. People have strongly bad opinions about Jamie. I think they get the wrong idea, maybe because they dislike that he fights the systems he sees wrong in and stands up for positions he feels are right. He is strong, adamant, and consistent in these things, and when he realizes he is wrong about something, he admits it and works to fix it. I have known him and have witnessed his person long enough to know the truth in him. Over time, I have really disliked some of the things he's said and done, but in hindsight of my acquired maturity, I realized that the things he said and did were for the betterment of myself, others, and ideas and institutions which he was defending/prosecuting.

He honestly has made me a much better RPer and a person of greater maturity and integrity over the past 4 years (almost) now.

  6. In Anthos, I did, indeed, teach the Butterfly Druid these things and ensured she was decently progressed. I also OOCly oversaw her as a member of the then-MAT. Since the recent return of the character, we have RPd and I have ensured she is still up to snuff with everything, and everything seems to be in order!

  7. What is your Minecraft Account Name?: Werbles

How long have you played on LotC?: Over three and a half years by a few months.

How many hours per day/week are you available?: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I am available on the forums and in-game throughout the day after 11:00am EST. Tuesday and Thursday, I am online much later in the day due to college classes. I am free for the entirety of every other weekend!

Have you read and do you thoroughly understand Magic Lore?: Yes, I indeed have read it; though, to my belief, I understand Magic Lore quite well, I could always have a greater understanding of the lore, so I re-read and reference the lore often and ask questions when needed.

What Magic Lore do you hold the most experience with?:

I hold my greatest experience with Druid lore with particularly keen understanding the rarer, lesser-understood areas such as Shapeshifting, Soul Trees, corrupt Druids, Ents, the Aspect Stones, and others. I also have a higher experience and understanding of the Arcane in general, Runesmithing, Soul Puppetry, and a majority of areas that involve magical healing. I ask questions and read about other magic areas to try gaining greater understanding of them - it's just not the same when you don't RP with it or directly oversee/teach it.

Write about a magic-related topic that you find interesting (e.g. How mental barriers work) :

A topic that I find very intriguing, and which I have great experience RPing myself and with others over the past three+ years, is magical healing on LotC. We have so many different kinds of healing, some which are similar in appearance and results and others which add a tremendous flavour to the game. My greatest time spent in RP has been providing magical healing to those with injuries and ailments, as well as studying and consulting with elders of other healing magics. (I place the rest of this in a spoiler for neatness)

    Spoiler

+ There are the Monks, which have God-like abilities to heal just about anything and everything - their power elevates so high as to allow them to guide the souls and bodies of the dead back to life, but resulting in a substantial loss of memory to the patient and sometimes resulting in scars or change of the patient in the forms of fear, pain, or paranoia.

+ There are the Clerics and Paladins; they must understand the wound or ailment they are healing, with greater wounds requiring much greater energy to heal. A great light with particular frequencies is the display of their power. This healing magic puts greater strain on the caster than the patient, with the patient receiving relief in most cases save for the removal of taint and corruption, which causes them great pain. Sometimes, depending on the individual and the wound/ailment, an individual is incapable of being healed by holy magic; what a shame...

+ There are Twilight Priests. Muun'trivazja healing works in a similar way to the Holy Arts. The healer touches the wound with a light that reverses the damage and results in healing; the healer is drained of energy depending on the severity of the wound and the skill of the healer. The patients do not often seem to suffer more than scars or pains.

The previous three magics I find are very similar in taste and appearance when it comes to healing RP. What I find most intriguing in this subject of magical healing are the following areas. These are the areas which I, personally, enjoy studying OOC and IC as well as RPing with.

+ There are Witchdoctors, very few of which I have seen around. I particularly fancy their incorporation of spirits and the more tribal, 'orcish' feel to healing RP - I also view it as a very 'natural' healing in the sense that materials are gathered and spirits are summoned. This particular healing magic is very complex, as Witchdoctors also carry out various rituals through their blessing, charms, and hexes to bring forth some spirit to carry out their intended deed. They don't always know what the outcome of their blessings, hexes, and so on will be, however, and this gives many possibilities to how the patient will be affected by the healing.

+ There are Druids, which I am incredibly biased towards in regards to enjoyment of RP and healing. The Druids healing methods take a very interesting position; it is truly a "Nature's" healing when the Druid carries out his work. See, Druidic healing is based on herbalism and botany (which is not the same as alchemy), a very natural healing style that is approachable by anyone - even the non-magic RPers. What makes their salves, poultices, and potions so special and unique, though, is the blessings a Druid provides their herbs. Particular affects can be magnified and diminished on the herb, and this can vastly increase the potency of the herbs' properties. The side-effects can be really fun to play with as a Druid healer; even if the patient's wound is patched up and healed so rapidly, they might suffer side affects of leafy growths, hair growth (such that might grant the beardless with beards), and countless other possibilities as per side-effect of various herbs. Furthermore, Druid healing is capable of extending beyond this "blessed herbalism" to provide a a touch of Nature to the patient in the form of a replaced limb that is not only wooden, but is also living. Druidic healing can see both the healer and the patient suffer consequences, but these consequences are more so side affects and are very RP engaging for both parties.

+ There are Alchemists. Although it isn't completely a magic that requires application, alchemy has many possibilities that are seemingly magical in practice. Their concept of "equivalent exchange" - to get a particular effect, one must supply something of equal value - and the various ingredients, symbols, and methods taken to produce a particular recipe are diverse. The alchemist tends to suffer little to no effect in their applications, but provide all sorts of effects and outcomes on their patients. Bones are mended, sicknesses are ended, and then there are chimeras and other odd creations... Rather than explaining the endless possibilities of alchemy, I shall just say this... it is a form of healing that is most versatile and RPly engaging - it works through various alchemical ingredients and symbols (such as various herbs or critters in some cases) and can create both absolutely horrific and beautiful things.

+ There are Necromancers. Someone will most certainly call me out on this, but I don't intend to directly label Necromancy as an official healing art. Though, when I look at Necromancy, I see that, in their own way, they are providing a type of healing. There is something to be said for reanimating the dead. The Monks do it, albeit in an entirely different way, though it is an affect of their healing abilities. Necromancers don't have "healing" abilities, but they can place an individual in a limbo state between life and death. And while this isn't exactly patching up a cut, replacing a severed limb, or curing an illness, it is bringing someone back from the dead. And that, in itself, I can argue is a form of healing from a very gory and dark perspective.

I may have left something out that is seen as a legitimate form of magical healing, but my primary concern and interest is in these things detailed above. There are many parallels which can be drawn and so many unique differences that provide endless magical effects and possibilities on the patient of a magical healer.

Give a Summary of any Staff/Lead positions you’ve held on any Minecraft Server in the past:

I was a developer and global moderator on the Legend of Aelryth server, and wrote much Elven and Magic lore there. On Lord of the Craft, I served on the MAT for several months and have lead the Druidic Order guild for about three years total. Furthermore, I have been an active individual in shaping and maintaining Druidism over the past three and a half years and have also contributed to various Druid lore pieces and have acted as a consultant for Druidism to many individuals in staff positions (MAT members, Lore Masters, Admins) in that time.

  8. Factcore provided some of the best, by far, events I've ever been a part of or heard of. He genuinely cares about the players having fun and feeling as if they're creating the story, rather than having some knotty-headed plot line shoved down their throats with forced-deaths as I've been used to experiencing and hearing of for some time now. This fellow will truly provide what the teams needs: an actual ET who puts tons of effort into his builds and RP and cares about those he RPs with and provides RP for.

  9. Callax's thin and spindly hand trembles lightly as he caresses a quill, fanning it back and forth whilst he reads the words of the charter upon the parchment. After adjusting his spectacles on his nose and closer to his eyes, he looms forward and proceeds to sign his simple name, with a very time-taking leisure, in detailed and incredibly slanted letters.

  10. My thoughts are similar to Stobohobo's... It seems as if you are incorporating a variety of different magics into this one idea you have, and it wouldn't be favorable to the RPers of those particular magics that some of your ideas may intrude upon. I can't say that I'm a fan of this lore; it should be more unique.

  11. I have RPed alongside DefinitelyKnot (AKA Charlie) off and on since we both joined the server back in 2012 in Asulon. We, but he more than I, have come a long way since then. He never fails to provide the most immersive, detailed, exquisite, beyond measure of quality RP. It is just natural for him in his everyday RP to provide such authenticity and quality.

Not only is he a natural and exceptional RPer, but he has already achieved the greatness that the ET should exemplify. Over the years, Charlie has come up with the most interesting character concepts and has RPd these unique characters out, providing a unique, almost event-like RP to all those who might be delighted by his arrival. Some examples of these characters were Sugarman - the villain who used sugar as a weapon, Marvin the Mystery Man - who solved, or perhaps didn't, the most complex of cases, the Jarl of Yellow - who declared that everything in existence that was yellow was, by right, his, and Rodrigo the Daring Bandit - he stole his our possessions and our hearts. These are some of the spectacular characters Charlie has provided some of the most fun RP with, and he's done so without being on any official staff team - imagine the ideas and events he'd bring forth if he WAS on the ET.

I can also speak of his dedication, too. Despite him having so many "event characters," Charlie has held onto a few long-term main characters, as well. A couple of which were Druids and a couple which were not. He has a dedication to providing fun and entertainment above all, but his organization and planning skills are great, too.

What strengths could you contribute to the Event Team? Are you knowledgeable in lore or great at organizing? I have zero redeemable qualities.

I think this quote goes to show nothing more than Charlie's humbleness. While he is so very dedicated to the realm of LotC and the enjoyment of those who RP here, he never claims himself to be anything spectacular. I cannot stress enough how great an ET member Charlie would be. I also cannot stress enough how well he understands the lore that he does know and how much effort he puts into learning the lore he does not know.

To conclude, I wish to say that my experience with the ET for awhile has been far sub-par. The past handful of events I have been part of have been played and directed by the ET member(s) themselves with no influence and fun to be had by those part of the event. These ET have gone as far as emoting for the RPers involved, detailing their deaths for them, and, thus, leaving their characters without memories of the events in the first place! What sort of bogus is this? I'm sure there are members on the ET who do provide fun, but those who have orchestrated some events I and others have been a part of have become great detriments to the reputation of fun and of the ET.

Charlie won't be one of those guys. He's been worthy of the ET for years, and now is your chance to give him the opportunity to play out what he has done for so long. If the ET can accept those who honestly don't seem to give two bananas about their events or the players involved, then the ET can most certainly accept Charlie to the team. In all honesty, I have lost faith in the ET because of my and many others' experience with them; Charlie is one of those people I know will restore the hope and faith so many have lost.

  12. I think everyone is right to criticize Arik, just as we all are right to provide constructive criticism to each other. However, it has been a few years since some of these critiques were even valid, and I think many of you are laying on Arik a bit too thick. Can we step back and take a look at some of our staff members now who only a few months to a year ago had a terrible reputation of being poor sports, poor team players, perhaps selfish, into MG and PG, leaking and purposely causing chaos in LotC chats? I won't be 'that guy' and call anyone out, but some of these very people didn't even have experience on a staff team before, period; yet, we forgave them and gave them a chance, or perhaps another chance.

Other than a few, such as Ouity, who have posted here, I have known and experienced Arik more than any of you. I am somewhere between my 3rd and 4th year an active RPer on LotC, but in my earlier years, I was typically that nooby idiot who needed corrected for acting like a downright knotty-pated fool. I was at the butt end of Arik lectures and warnings, but I actually looked up to him and sought him for guidance a number of times, as well. I know for a fact that Arik is not full of himself, however, and that he does not think himself higher than anyone when it comes to moderation. What he IS full of and DOES hold higher than others are the rules and common sense and courtesy (whether this be in Forum Moderation or as a mature adult in a Skype chat). I can say that the only true example where he might be full of himself is in-character as an elder Druid (which he is rightfully so to be full of himself, because he has ICly earned that respect) and out-of-character when he stands up for Druidic lore being trampled upon.

He IS a team player, but he WILL stand up for the right decision if everyone else is flocking to some other idea that is either stupid, selfish, blind, or in following another leader. I was around when he was an FM previously, and he most certainly was strict. In all honesty, however, it becomes irritating when members of the community get away with doing foolish things with nothing more than a slap on the wrist or an allowed return from whatever "perma-banning" has come to mean. Though, back to supporting Arik... He is most certainly not selfish in his leadership; just because he had a bit of a tiff with a couple FMs before does not justify him being incompatible for the FM team now. I got sick of the staff teams often rallying behind a single person and not having a voice of their own in times past, so, get over the fact that Arik has his own voice and will not put up with stupidity or rule-breaking on any level, be you a common community man or a member of staff.

I hate seeing hate comments and he-said she-said. It's been two years. People see Arik standing up for something and think he's putting himself above everyone, when it is precisely not so. Just think, if it wasn't for people like him standing up for their respected magic groups, you might still be limited to two-TAs per character. He cares for what's best for not only the Druidic Order, but for the community as well, and I have personally witnessed this. Despite the fact that I used to be at the butt end of his bluntness and 'wrath,' I hold no foolish and poorly-fueled grudge, but rather see the truth and best in him and his leadership.

  13. Great idea, in all honesty. Would save a lot of trouble for all three sides: the owner, the thief, and the GM.

Now, we just need to implement a rule that people may not own horses, or any animal for that matter, in the name of the Aspects and DETA (Druids for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) law!

  14. KibagoKid understands Druid magic very well on an OOC level and I have never witnessed him misusing or PGing it. His character, Taynuel, has grown and developed as a Druid in tremendous ways, which have strengthened his bond with Nature, thus elevating his abilities and influence over Nature. From both an OOC and an IC perspective, Taynuel has achieved the means and status in which he is capable of teaching Blight Healing, now, on top of his other subtype of Druidism.
