Purpose -The purpose of this military group is to bring roleplay of the Spartans from Greece into Lord of the Craft in a fitting way. The history and setup of the Spartans are both edited to fit into the server effectively, not having dull subjects implemented. The part of Spartan society integrated in this group is purely military, containing little with common citizens. The common and basic citizen is omitted due to lack of a large nation, therefore all tasks could not be applied effectively. The Aethrans are a group dedicated to a more supportive, yet aggressive military role. They will align themselves with other nations and factions as they deem fit for their goals. Real-Life Influence -Spartans were citizens of Sparta, Greece around the time of 600 B.C. More specifically, the military power of Sparta is what this military power is focused on. Spartans were known to be the most powerful and most feared military power in ancient Greece. These soldiers grew up in the military starting at a young age, devoting their entire lives in service. These individuals became the greatest of warriors, and many would say that one Spartan soldier was equal to five to ten soldiers of other nations. Spartans went through extremely difficult training that required one to be in utmost shape to succeed. Ranks -The Polemarch The Polemarch is the leader of the entire army, capable of overriding all commands. The color of the feathers on the Polemarch's helmet are black. -The Hypolokhagoi Only one Hypolokhagoi can exist at one given time. The Hypolokhagoi is a Lochagos that is authorized to deliver the Polemarch’s commands should he be unable to do so himself. The Hypolokhagoi is capable of accepting new recruits to be adopted into training. The feathers of the Hypolokhagoi's helmet are cyan. -The Lochagos The Lochagos are essentially the commanders in the military. They are fully capable of leading, punishing, rewarding, and training of the entirety of the military. There can be 3 Lochagos at one time. The feathers of the Lochagos' helmet are green. -The Enomotarch An Enomotarch is a soldier who has selected a specialty in combat. There are three specialties for an Enomotarch. 1) Close Quarters with a Xiphos (Iron blade for stabbing. 12-18 inches) or a Kopis (A thick and curved iron sword designed for hacking). 2) Pankration, a fighting style involving the hands. Includes boxing and grappling. This specialty often contains the scouts of the Aethans. Pankrations sometimes have the ability to learn the use of a javelin should they become scouts. 3) The spear, a thrusting weapon designed for medium range. The feathers of the Enomotarch helmet are red. Promotion: Earn favor of the Polemarch. Promotion can not be earned if three Lochagos are already in power. -The Lochos A Lochos is a standard soldier in the military. They have no rights but have proven their honor by completing their basic test. The feathers of the Lochos helmet are blue. Promotion: Complete their rigorous training process. -Subject A subject is any individual who has been accepted and are awaiting their basic testing. Promotion: Pass basic test. Training Approach -All Aethans receive training through the same system. Subjects: -The training of a subject is more of a test. When accepted to become a subject, one must pass a very basic, yet difficult physical test. This test can include many challenges, and it is not uncommon for the challenge to be seemingly impossible. For one to pass the tests, they must be extremely muscular, flexible, and quick. Failure of one challenge may cause automatic denial of becoming a Lochos. Should a subject only fail by a small portion, they can still be admitted and tuned into perfect shape. During their test, a subject will be tested mentally as well for morals and intelligence. Despite the Aethans being on the lookout for powerful individuals, a well rounded mindset is often sought after. Lochos: -Upon promotion to Lochos, the individual must decide which direction they wish to pursue as a specialty. They have the choice to be a close combat warrior focusing on a iron stabbing sword known as the Xiphos, or the Kopis, a thick and curved blade designed for hacking. Another path available to a Lochos is Pankration. Pankration is a form of combat completely relying on the use of ones own personal strength. One trained in Pankration is capable of being a scout for the Aethans due to their silent nature. The spear is a third choice for all Aethans, yet it is also one of the most difficult of the choices. The spear is a mighty weapon when in the right hands, but due to relying on a thrusting attack, the mid-range spear is ineffective unless one is trained effectively. The training for a Lochos is strong and rigorous, but with enough effort, one is sure to master their desired specialty. Laws IC I: An Aethan will be well rounded, not only devoted to war, but also a craft. II: An Aethan will never harm another of his people without just cause. III: An Aethan will never lie to another of his people. IV: An Aethan will never steal from another of his people. V: An Aethan will always hold honor, his people, and glory above themselves. VI: An Aethan will always follow orders from a Lochagos or higher rank. VII: An Aethan will practice self-discipline. Liberty, equality, and fraternity at the center. OOC I: All Aethans will be mature, helpful, and friendly to other players. II: An Aethan will not use excess OOC during IC interactions. III: An Aethan should be ready to face execution for any traitorous activity. IV: An Aethan should always enjoy themselves, and if not, they should try to fix the problem. V: An Aethan is expected to be active. Appearance -The Aethan wear crimson colored tunics and cloaks. These items are covered by a bronze cuirass, bronze leg grieves, and a bronze helmet. The feathers of the helmet represent the rank of the Aethan. ALL Aethan have a round shield. The round shield has a lambda painted over the front, the color matching their personal rank. Enomotarch are included in having a round shield, regardless of chosen specialty. Only Lochos and above have this equipment. There is absolutely no excuse to leave a round shield behind in battle.
