1. I wonder if it's possible to stage wars over places that aren't all that devastating to player communities... There was a recent idea topic about wonders in 4.0; what if there were landmarks with national benefits to fight over? ( Here it is, started by Omithiel: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/107349-40-wonders-of-the-world/ ) Wars seem to be what new players come to the server anticipating; they're a key part of international RP - it's just a matter of OOC investment being separated from IC. Also, have the understanding not to destroy the atmosphere others have spent their energy cultivating.
2. Alright, Aragon/Digital, in anticipation of your navy, we need to clarify some things. In all your posts I've noted inconsistencies, so I'll just post 'em here, and you can address them; then we can all have some fun times. Spoiler for future scrolling's sake: So, the problem here is that you've suddenly got 50 extra cogs. ----- Finally, on p.9, there's the statement that: And here, there's an extra 100 ships without explanation. ----- I'd also say you lost a few at Ibiza. BASICALLY, I really just need some clarification That's all for now ;) It'd also be nice if some numbers of your Valencian army could be at least posted to mods, for consistency's sake when those inevitable battles arise. Sorry to be such a hard-ass.
3. THE SULTANATE OF MOROCCO IBERIAN CAMPAIGN; NORTHERN OFFENSIVE: Morocco's main Iberian army skirts past Toledo, along the Tagus River, and through the Andalusian region of Cuenca. Troops are gathered in passing major settlements. On the way, minor Castilian settlements are ransacked. It rests upon the border with the Castilian-controlled Valladolid. A small force of 200 pikemen remain, discreetly, upon the other side of the Tagus. IBERIAN CAMPAIGN; LISBONESE MOBILISATION: Such military mobilisation as had taken place in Andalusia is put into effect in western Iberia. Troops are gradually gathered around Lisbon. Siege crews are organised, and construction of a number of siege engines undertaken: 3 Mangonels, and 3 Trebuchets. IBERIAN CAMPAIGN; GRANADIAN DEFENSIVE: With the aggressive advance of the European crusaders along the eastern coast, defenses are prepared in Granadian cities. The forces that had been trained in previous initiatives are readied for battle. Forces from as far as Niebla travel to join the defenseive front. Siege weapons are constructed upon city walls; troops are mustered; mercenary bands of Christian Guards (historically true) are hired by nobles as they anticipate the crusading threat. Questioned loyalty is hopefully solved by gold; once their use in Iberia had been expired (the Sultan did not wish to have these divided soldiers involved for long in Iberia), they would be sent to address North African issues. The remnants of the forces sent to Valencia, which had retreated to Murcia, have recovered somewhat, and now pull back to Granada. They gather forces as they go, and burn crops and bridges behind them. THE BATTLE ON THE ALBORAN SEA: - MOD APPROVED The odds had seemed in favour of the Moorish fleet as they engaged the sophisticated Genoese navy; Moorish marines jeered as they pulled alongside the Italian vessels. Archers fired from decks and, on the Moorish galleys, from towers, as sailors leaped aboard, fighting the enemy ferociously. Vessels collided with great force; the clash of steel filled the air; men screamed; ships sank amidst roaring flames. Where the Moors had seemingly held the upper hand, their inferior ships could not withstand battle as the Genoese vessels could. It was such that their advantage in numbers was negated by the expertise of the maritime power. As time passed, it became clear that if the conflict did not cease, the fleets of both powers would be ultimately devastated. The Moroccan ships began to pull back from the battle where they could; waving flags of truce at the Genoese, who, too suffered great losses. Would the Genoese cut their losses and retreat, or destroy their infamous fleet for the sake of a single battle? MODERATOR'S VERDICT: A CONTINENT AWAY... The Moroccan expedition continues towards Timbuktu. Whilst travelling, Small bands of Saharan mercenaries are recruited, and, as the army progress further in, slavers are encountered. Slave soldiers are also bought. Algiers is welcomed warmly under the power of Morocco. Sultan Tashfin ibn Yusuf, of course, intends to make use of the new troops acquired. But, rather than mustering them in the direction of Gibraltar, the majority are moved to the prosperous city of Béjaïa. The wealth of Algiers is kept localised, and spent on strengthening the area. Relations with Tunisia continue seemingly pleasantly; the Sultan proposes that his heir, Ibrahim, be wed to a Tunisian bride. Tunisian trade is a valuable boost to the vibrant state of Morocco.
4. Yeah, I would think that some of mine would be inferior to European ships, but anyway, I'd say something like: - 100 Galleys - 300 Cogs - 200 Hulks Keep in mind, this fleet has just been sitting at Tangier, readied for combat. Also, there's still about 300 at Tangier. Does this, and other stuff like it, seriously just happen in a single turn? Am I handicapping myself, or can I pluck 15,000 men up in a single turn and march them somewhere? --- Also, regarding France sending troops to Toledo.. I don't want to complain - But the whole reason I suddenly diverted my army is because I knew there'd be some MG; when I said it was heading for Valencia, I knew everyone would end up there. But then there's also the question of how you'd have gotten there so fast - maybe I shouldn't be so slow, in saying that they're simply marching there, and just take it one turn, like everyone else seems to. If we want to go along the lines that you 'heard rumours' and moved your whole force there, then, really, I should already be there, and either besieging or in control.
5. THE SULTANATE OF MOROCCO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFfHA8v9GJg A NEW SULTAN; MILITARISATION OF ANDALUSIA A more potent killer than any bloodthirsty crusader, time had taken Morocco's glorious Sultan away from the world of the living. Retiring from the field for his coronation, Tashfin, with his recent wounds at the hands of the Aragonese, would place heavy focus upon strengthening his nation militarily. With news of the mobilisation of crusading armies, and the bolstering of Aragonese forces by their neighbours, as well as the increased involvement of Portugal and Castille, there was more than enough encouragement for Andalusian forces to be reinforced in number and quality. The Crown calls its vassals to provide men for the war effort. Conscription sweeps the Moorish provinces; men, young and experienced, are selected from settlements across the nation, and undergo military training. Soldiers are trained in combating the techniques of the hulking Spanish knights, and adopting effective contemporary formations. The infamous Muslim archers of Morocco would be further trained in their familiar techniques with long-range missiles. Battles raged across Iberia; fixing forces held back the crusaders for now, but moves had to be made soon. (later in post) Of course, this new reign meant more than military development. Sultan Tashfin ibn Ali would extend his hand to those nations to the east, with whom his father had developed pleasant relations; to Algiers and Tunisia, Morocco would politely propose their absorption into the sultanate, that, in their unification, a prosperous North African age would eventuate. He is ready to negotiate, if need be. ^ MODERATION REQUIRED ^ GENOESE THREAT The grand Genoese fleet encounters the Moorish fleet in the Alboran Sea. The Moorish fleet, of over six-hundred vessels assume battle formations, and move upon the Genoese. Gathered in Tangier for months before, the marines on board are eager for fighting. Despite the superior quality of the Italian ships, naval warfare all came down to the same techniques of arrows and boarding. As such, the Moors, outnumbering, were confident in their attack. ARMIES ON THE MOVE Whilst Moorish conscripts and African mercenaries filtered up to Tangier through Fes, Tashfin played his bluff with the army already dispatched from Cordoba. He had guessed that Aragon would attempt to cement its hold on Valencia, and expect him to fight mindlessly for that settlement. He would leave them to their devices in the time being, and instead push up through the empty regions they had left behind them, but not before punishing the insolent Castilian regions to the north. The force of 11,700 marches for Toledo. Back in North Africa, the Sultan sends a diplomatic delegation, 'protected' by a sizeable force of one-and-half thousand soldiers, south, to explore the trade opportunities along the Niger River, Timbuktu, in particular.
6. THE SULTANATE OF MOROCCO ABANDONING VALENCIA: Prince Tashfin surveyed the raging battle bitterly. This was not worth the losses that they were suffering. He would let them keep Valencia, for now. He signaled, and the trumpeters for a steady retreat. Whilst the cavalry continued to pressure the Aragonese formation, Tashfin's infantry left the Spaniards to their miraculous high ground. Who had even allowed the men to follow them up there? It mattered not. The Moorish prince turned his horse and trotted away from this latest disaster with the manpower that remained to him. The army would regroup at Murcia. RETALIATION: News of the defeats at Valencia and Ibiza traveled swiftly to the Sultan's wrinkled ears. Aragon's brazen acts disappointed him; no doubt they had called upon their European brethren to support them whilst they had this momentum. These Spanish upstarts had not even begun to feel Moorish discipline. His advisors surrounded him, urging him to action. He raised a hand, ordering them to silence. Yes, Morocco would exact justice. There would be retribution. The North African forces, gathered from along the western provinces and inland Morocco, along with mercenaries from neighbouring lands, had since crossed the Strait of Gibraltar. Over eleven-and-a-half thousand men had traveled to Cordoba, to be further bolstered by the constant filtering of Iberian troops from the west. They seemed ready to march for Murcia soon, and, from there, Valencia. The naval force gathered at Tangier, guessed over the last few months to be at least six-hundred ships strong, is dispatched, out into the Alboran Sea. The strait's security is maintained. How in the world a Genoese convoy slipped by is beyond understanding. Still, the governor of Tangier is chastised, and a blockade established. DIPLOMACY - MODERATION NEEDED: Messengers were once again sent to Castille, playing upon recent events. See now, Castilian king, how your supposed Catholic allies flock to support Aragon... Once deluded as to his power, it will not be long before that king turns his greedy eyes upon your own land. Morocco offers you the chance for peace from the south, and vengeance upon your belligerent neighbour. Prove that your nation is not slave to the whims of a corrupt old man, a thousand leagues away - he knows not your plight. Morocco will not urge you again, but leaves it to you to consider this. To the neighbouring North African nations of Algiers and Tunisia, the Sultan sends warm greetings and gifts. He makes clear his hope to maintain strong relations. Emissaries stress to these African brethren the situation in Iberia - without aid from Africa, the greedy, blasphemous claws of Europe will reach them. Alliances are proposed, for the glory of their shared faith. Scouting vessels are sent down, along Africa's western edge, searching for any commercial opportunities.
7. THE SULTANATE OF MOROCCO THE BATTLE OF VALENCIA: The Moroccan formation advanced; every moment that the Spanish did not move was a moment under fire from the skirmishers. The tight Aragonese formations made easy targets for the Moorish archers and javelinmen, who could simply toss their spears in that direction, and be guaranteed a hit. Countless Spaniards were felled with each volley. The phalanx advanced at a steady pace, and would eventually lock horns with the Aragonese. Meanwhile, the heavy cavalry would swoop around the battlefield, and charge the Aragonese flanks. Again, the tight formation allowed the thundering weight of 750 horses to repeatedly batter the enemy's western flank, sending men soaring and crushing bones; they tactfully retreated, then attacked again, like furious wave upon rock. The 600 experienced men-at-arms backed the phalanx as it advanced, ready to begin carving up the inadequate Aragonese peasants. The remaining light cavalry, in the meantime, had manoeuvred behind the Aragonese forces, and now charged in to attack the light infantry and archers that hid behind the enemy pike wall. The 25 ships sent to Ibiza would be lost, unfortunately. The overwhelming force of the Aragonese had been unanticipated. However, their sacrifice had allowed the other fleet, of 30 ships, to reach Valencia. They had reached the beach nearby, and frantically unloaded from their vessels. From aboard the ships, goods and foodstuffs were unpacked. These marines rushed for the city, whose guards already opened the gates and rushed them in. ((I won't be able to respond for a while, so I leave the result in the hands of impartial mods))
8. THE SULTANATE OF MOROCCO BREAKING THE SIEGE OF VALENCIA: Prince Tashfin's army marched the last miles of the forest valley that would soon give way to the fields of Valencia. The ranks were tense with anticipation, eyes fixed upon the passage ahead of them. It was such that hindered their ability to sense the trap that they were about to walk into. Tashfin was not a complete fool, though, and he knew what the horns of the scouts meant. He signalled to his commanders, who went on to bellow orders to their respective men. The remnants of the force of light cavalry, customarily positioned a mile ahead of the main force, began to pour from atop the hills ahead. They had been reduced from 1,000 to at least half that. They screamed of ambush, but the army knew for what they braced. With bitter resolve, they crested the hill, and presented themselves to their Aragonese opponents. Slowly spreading its swelling profile against the southern horizon, the Moorish army presented a body of pikes, 1,000 strong, in phalanx formation. From amidst its ranks emerged the 1,200 javelinmen that would harass the opposing force, cutting down as many as possible before they would be protected by the advancing phalanx, and joined by 800 archers in their continued aerial extermination of Aragonese ranks. On the formation's flanks guarded the heavy cavalry (750). Behind, men-at-arms, numbering 600. The remaining force of ~450 light cavalry and camelmen, having regained their composure, skirted the battlefield's western edge, barely in sight. They would opportunistically harangue the Aragonese forces, casting javelins into the midst of their ranks before darting away. If advancing Aragonese forces exposed themselves , these horsemen would ensure that they would pay dearly upon the butcher's bill. The 30 ships along the coast rounded the peninsula near Denia, and continued along to Valencia. The other fleet of 25 moved to intercept the Aragonese fleet that had been expected off the coast of Ibiza. The Moorish marines prepared eagerly for battle with arrows and javelins ready to be thrown across, onto the decks of the Aragonese. They would then board their opponents, and fight ferociously.

10. THE SULTANATE OF MOROCCO MOBILISATION IN NORTH AFRICA: News of Aragon's victories troubled Sultan Ali ibn Yusuf's ears; the besieging of Valencia, and the loss of the Balearic Isles had stirred discontentment in his court - advisors called for a swift and terrible vengeance. It would be so. North African forces begin to be gathered up, destined to meet at Tangier. Ships in North Africa are also given orders to amass there. Emissaries are sent to the North African powers of Algiers and Tunisia in the effort of strengthening diplomatic relations. With gifts and Iberian trophies, the Sultan hoped to influence these nations to consider supporting his campaign. --x-- ARAGONESE THREAT: Forces are mobilised along the south of the Iberian peninsula, in the direction of Valencia. The Sultan charges his son, Tashfin, with avenging Moroccan losses by protecting Valencia. Whilst the main forces marches directly to Valencia, another - a quarter of its size, heads for the recently-lost land to the north, which would be unstable. A fleet follows the eastern Iberian coast, before splitting. 30 ships continue to approach the port of Valencia; 20 ships set course for Ibiza. They would scout the situation in the Balearic Isles, in anticipation of the North African response. A suspicious call for ceasefire precedes the sending of emissaries to Castille. They warn against alliance with Aragon. The Sultan promises that, should Aragon fall, the greater western half shall go to Castille. If Castille were to be so graceful as to entertain further diplomatic relations, invaluable access through the Strait of Gibraltar would be granted. In the likely event that such an offer would fail, the Sultan hoped that at least a message of diplomatic approachability would entice any who sought to spite Aragon and her allies.

16. Hello there, As you may have noticed, I'm wanting to start a new character, but as I considered this, I thought of all these people posting on the forums for characters they need played. So, I thought I might fill someone else's need while discovering some nice RP :) At the moment I'm playing a High Elf, which, while it is indeed enjoyable, I feel I might be missing out on other things that LotC has to offer. I am in Melbourne, Australia (Timezone: GMT +10), so please take that into account. I'm willing to play any race, or whatever else. And, y'know.. I'd rather fill an actual need than just some miscellaneous spot on a family tree. It would be nice to discuss the character with you, maybe I can have some input in back-story, name, and whatnot.. So! Please, let me know if you've got something for me!
17. Aelidar studies the notice, and inhales as he comes to a resolution, stepping forward and taking a quill to the paper. ~Aelidar Elsil'sirame~
18. Upon the departure of the young elf who had brought him here, Aelidar takes one of the forms, and and sits at the table nearby. After a brief scanning of the sheet, he takes a quill, and begins.. MALI’AHERAL CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION: Name: Aelidar Elsil'Sirame ((MCName)): dmastrantuono Origins of your birth, and your place of living: Born to Maehrir and Turrii'leyun as she became able to bear child, until fifteen I lived in Laurelin, and was among the refugees following the attack of the undead. I remained, in that frustrated state, in Haelun'or for only a few years, until I... needed to leave - to address the issues I faced as a result of my parents' deaths. How can you declare you are Mali'thill? I am the only son of my parents, both Mali'thill, now deceased. I grew amongst, and studied with you. My first thoughts were those of the High Elves. If any knew my family before my departure, then I assume their recollection. Also, my appearance is one of obvious lineage. Why do you wish to become a citizen of our cihi? It is simply appropriate for me to be among my people. After many exhausting travels over Anthos, it has become apparent that there is no community as tight, and inter-woven as the Mali'aheral. The obligation, and love I bear for my people is one that supercedes any wanderlust. I belong among the Mali'aheral, and desire to create, for myself, a home in this community. What is your personal vision for our blessed race? The Mali'aheral possess an inquisitveness that is destined to lead them to greatness. Their love for knowledge, and the preservation and development of it, is inspiring. Unlike the countless internal conflicts of the valah, the Mali'aheral are of one mind; the unity to be found amongst them will ensure their legacy. However.. their wisdom is such that should it not be hidden behind the walls of Haelun'or - we bear the duty of sharing this with those that seek it. As those with the true power - knowledge, the mali'aheral should be assuming a position of leadership in Anthos. I have faith in our capability as a race to be an example to all other nations - one of unity, peace, and discernment. What does maehr'sae hiylun'ehya mean to you? A reminder - of the eternal legacy of the Mali'aheral. That our trust is to be placed in the welfare of our people. Our future is dependant on the attitude we take now. Our people have prospered, and lived untouched by the tides of war because of their principles - we have endured, where others have fallen. What Elven phrase do you particularly take to heart? Please explain why: I have spent.. too long.. away from my people, and the phrases drilled to me by my mentors escape me - I hope to achieve some recollection in my return to Haelun'or. What is the subject of the first book you may submit to the college? I hope to write many books over the years! Though still deciding at present, I feel inclined to conduct a study of certain aspects of the Mali'aheral, based upon the time that I spend with those that provide an interesting perspective on our people. Otherwise, being somewhat adventurous, and more... tolerant.. of the valah than others, I may be able to produce something concerning the wider realm of Anthos - for the advancement of our own race, of course.. Knowledge is Power. What would be your reaction if you ever saw a human, orc and unknown Mali'aheral travel the Anthos Highway together? The wisdom of that Mali'aheral would be questionable.. I, myself, would not be willing to trust an orc so eagerly. To accompany a human, would certainly be unwise - I have been victim of their thieving more than once, but to be within fifty feet of an orc presents an unquestionable danger - their brutality is widely known and openly accepted. In taking the wisest course of action, I would certainly avoid any interaction more than acknowledgement. I cannot say that I would have much appreciation for the choices of the Mali'aheral, and so, would avoid his presence. I would continue along the road only to not waste time, avoiding their gaze, hoping they were not bandits. Are there any other details about yourself you wish to relay to the mali’aheral? No. I wish only to contribute, and find a place in this community. ~~~ (( I had made another application.. I would prefer it had 'never happened' - I didn't know what the hell I was doing. ))

The actions, decisions, words are your character's. Meta-gaming: Not staying in the mind of your character - Committing actions based on information from OOC. In-Character Information: Complete the following biography on your character: Full Name: Aelidar Elsil'sirame Current Age: 185 Sub-race (if any): High Elf Past / History (include childhood, major-events, etc. 2+ paragraphs long): Born and raised the only son of Maehrir and Turrii'leyun as she became able to bear child. Until the age of fifteen, he learned that which is typical for High Elves. That fifteenth year of his life, with the attack on Laurelin, his parents were murdered by the undead hordes, and he was taken to safety by other High Elves. He lived among them about 35 years, confused and alone. He acquired a lack of faith in the close-minded ways of the High Elves, seeing little of their 'logic' in their disdain for foreign cultures. He continued studying under his guardians, yet with a critical mind, all the while gathering an appreciation for the mindsets of the 'lower races'. And so, with his gathered knowledge of the rest of the world, he journeyed across the land, spending time with and studying the ways of other elves, and humans. He aquired some skill with the sword and bow, and a familiarity with both the forests of the Wood Elves and the cities of Men. The High Elves that now resided in Haelun'or regarded him coldly as he returned to them every few years. They viewed his interest in the world as dangerous and foolish. Wishing to maintain some relationship with his own race, he turned his outward connections into a scholarly, respectable pursuit. Now, as he traversed Anthos, he wrote concerning the cultures and people he encountered. Now, he possesses a small influence in High Elven society, though often seen as a negative one. In his writings he tells of marvelous lands and exciting adventures, raging battles and majestic cities. Ambitions for the Future: Internally, he is frustrated by the barrier between himself and his people. He wishes to bring them to a deeper knowledge of the rest of the world, but they disdain his teachings. He is torn between the desire to find a wife, and be part of proper High Elven society, and the desire to explore the lands he loves. Personality: Somewhat reserved amongst High Elves, until given the opportunity to share views. Enthusiastic when it comes to new experiences - wishes to explore every inch of the world. Still affected by troubled upbringing - sometimes moody, cynical, melancholy. Skills: Writing, Exploring, Familiarity in Swordsmanship and Archery Appearance (this must include an in-game screenshot of your skin): Typical tall height and long ears of the High Elves, auburn hair. Often found frowning in thought. While travelling about he wears a strudy, woolen robe, with various leather straps and pouches. From under his hood, his loose hair is visible. In the cities of the High Elves, a modest but tasteful robe and hair drawn back. This skin is most likely temporary; I'm looking for a more suitable one. Any other details you wish to share about your character: Open-Response-Questions Each question in this section must be answered with a minimum of one paragraph which must describe the event in full. Please be as descriptive as possible and do not break character or lore at any point. ____ 1. As you walk through the deep forests you hear the sound of whispering and snickering. Upon inspection you realize that a group of older elves are mocking a small elven child. How do you react? Answer: I approach them, and stand between them and the young boy. The older elves fall silent, eyeing me with uncomfortably. 'What great, noble elves you are!' I take a fruit from one of the trees and pass it to the boy. 'You should be teaching him! Show him the ways of the forest.' The older elves shift before standing. One takes the boy by the shoulder. 'Let's go hunting.' The young boy smiles and follows them down one of the trails. I sigh and turn back to my path. 2. Whilst wandering through the Elven forests you come across a frail old man with a walking stick. He collapses in front of you, falling to the ground with a sharp thud. Out of his pocket falls a small pouch of gold coins, which hits the ground and splits open spreading coins across the pathway. The man lies there, defenseless - what do you do? Answer: I rush to the man's side, lifting him from the ground and helping him sit. He is obviously tired. I take some bread and water from my supplies. 'Many thanks.. I.. I was just wandering down the path. I like to spend time in here. There is a peace..' He takes a swig of the water, and a bite of the loaf. 'Yes, it is certainly beautiful.' I lift him further, and take him to a fallen log by the path, and sit him down. 'And how does a High Elf find himself here? A little far from your silver cities!' He chuckles. 'Well, I do enjoy to travel; to lose myself in such places as these..' I briefly explain my situation. 'And you? Your story?' 'Well...' And so, for the next hour or so, he tells me of his life as I listen intently. 'Good sir, I hope that I may meet you again, that you might help me with my writing. Your stories are fascinating.' 'Certainly!' I pass him his stick and we part ways as the late afternoon sun falls through the trees. 3. Whilst traversing the Elven Woodlands, you come across a small clearing in which a colored carriage sits. A trader stands outside of it and calls you over, telling you of his wares. He points out that his carriage sells just about everything, and that he's willing for you to haggle for a price. What does your character do? (Please include:- item, haggling for prices and the discussion involved). Answer: Upon his warm invitation I smile and approach. 'What have you got for me?' 'Food, equipment, tools! Anything! Everything!' 'Hmmm... I must say, I'm slightly hungry.' I look over the foodstuffs laid out. 'Fruits, meats! These fish straight from down the river!' 'That salted beef looks good.' 'Ah, beautiful quality!' I consider it. 'I'll take a handful, how much?' 'Thirty minas, I'd say.' I'm not one for haggling, but this instance I try somewhat. 'Surely not!' 'Twenty-five?' I pretend to consider. 'Look, I have some skins here; take them and give me two handfuls for ten.' He sighs. Then chuckles. 'Deal.' __________ Hopefully this is alright :P Looking forward to (hopefully) getting accepted.
