I’m not a GM but I am the original person who proposed the idea and I would emphatically hope so. The goal is to encourage good RP on both sides of the conflict and if that succeeds and both sides have an interest in continuing then I wouldn’t imagine GMs would tell them otherwise. The time limits stated should act as the minimum mandatory stay lengths, not a flat amount.

You can spend your whole character’s life in a cell if you wish to. Even as the rules are now. So correct. ?

Yeah, because nothing helps character development like the potential of essentially facing an in game, player enforced ban by having your character imprisoned for 2-4 days IRL. Heaven forbid someone OOCly targets you and repeatedly jails your character, or goes and imprisons both of your characters.

Then they would most likely lose sanctioned status and only be able to imprison players for a short time.

This proposed system for prison roleplay is flawed for multiple reasons....

While I agree with many of these points, especially the last one *cough cough*. It would be easy to make an amendment, stating that no villainous actions are allowed, so long as one of your characters are jailed. As for the 15 minute RP only there to jab at your captive OOCly, if it’s blatant, that could be grounds for sanction-status removal. Some of the most fulfilling, character developing, roleplay I have had, granted not on this server, has been captive roleplay. While this system is proposed in part to offer some real consequence on the server, it is also proposed to offer some dynamic and different roleplay.

  4. Big thank you to @_Jandy_ for proposing this idea in the first place!

This is a simple poll to gauge community interest in a more extensive, punitive imprisonment system on LoTC.

This is only to gauge interest. The prison times and rules are still up for debate and no way set in stone. If you feel the server needs a more extensive, punitive system, vote yes. If you are happy with the way things are now, vote no.

While the intent of the rules are clear and encourage captors to roleplay with their captives, as well as make sure a player is not locked away or forgotten about, it does not really punish characters or encourage players to partake in the experience, it offers no character development and only serves as a minor inconvenience OOCly. If done well, a proper imprisonment system would help serve the common narrative on LoTC, discourage thoughtless villainy and assist in character development. For a much longer and detailed explanation. I suggest reading Jandy’s thread.

In short: This is a proposed system to encourage player development, deter senseless villainy and help shake off the impression that LoTC is a consequence-free slice-of-life server:

    • There are three types of jails.
      • Nation sanctioned jails
      • Personal/guild sanctioned jails.
      • Non-sanctioned jails.

    • A nation sanctioned jail, may hold people for up to 4 days.
    • A personal/guild sanctioned jail may hold people for up to 2 days.
    • A non-sanctioned jail may hold a person up to 3 hours.

    • A prison must consist of:
      • Individual cells, which the prisoner will be /cmodify added to.
      • A common area for inter-prisoner and guard roleplay.
      • A successful liberation- raid, led with the intent to free a prisoner.
        • Will not require the raiders to unlock doors to the prison. A GM will unlock doors, leading to their cell.

    • A prison will be sanctioned by a GM, upon inspection of the prison. They will take into account.
      • Amount of roleplay available.
      • Quality of roleplay available.
      • Build quality of the jail.

    • If prisoners are unhappy about their duration in a jail, they may modreq; and it will be to the GMs discretion whether to release the prisoner and possibly remove sanctioned status.

    • Prisoners will be locked inside a specific jail region, be it sanctioned, and must modreq if they want to attempt an escape.

I encourage you all to share your thoughts below and engage in healthy discussion, bring up prison times or anything you fancy. If this poll is received well, a future poll will be made before we decide on prison times and flesh out the system in its entirety.

    Edit -----

These are the current rules if anyone needed a reminder:

§3.17 A player may only be held against their will for up to 3 hours of roleplay.

§3.18 A noble or leader, can be held up to 5 hours of roleplay.

§3.19 You can not be held captive for over 15 minutes without sufficient roleplay.

  5. I remember playing on a largely popular GTA: San Andreas roleplay server. If you committed criminal acts and were caught, you could expect up to 24 hours of in-game time, lock up. This meant that gangs, criminals, etc. were very keen on not being caught. Though even if you did get caught and arrested, because of the long jail-timers, there were usually other people in there with you, to roleplay and interact with. I'm not saying we should implement anything this severe (or maybe?), but I feel like, at the moment on LoTC, any action you take in roleplay, is largely consequence-free.

What map did you join during?: No idea. I joined in 2013, but first became active on Axios.

Do you have access to a Microphone? Yes

Average Daily Play Time? Too much. Depends on the day 3+ hours at least.

Have you held any LotC staff position(s) before? If so, for how long?: Yes, I have held a GM position in two instances for a total of about a year.

Do you have prior history in any forms of moderation?

I was a GM for a few months during quite a troublesome period, due to Thomas quitting as Admin and most of the GM team resigning about a month into my tenure. Then I rejoined later for a more comfortable tenure. All in all I have been a GM on LoTC for a year total.

Why do you want to join the GM Team?:

I resigned from the game-moderation team at the beginning of the summer break. I had to work two weeks out on a cruise ship with one week break in between; meaning I knew I wouldn’t have enough time to satisfy my obligations as a GM during this period. Uni has started up and I feel like I have the time to balance both my uni-work and GM-Obligations.  I enjoyed my last tenure as GM and feel like I did admirably, assisting the team mostly behind the scene, when not cranking through modreqs. It seems to me like the team is in a good spot right now and I would like to join and help do my part again.

Have you applied for this position before and been denied? If so, link the application:

    No.

Anything else you want to tell us?:

Tomatoes are fruits. (blago made me do this)

I mean, not even Germany players said "EZ" to Brazil after they won because that's rude and respect's a good moral

Or maybe they knew they were going to lose to Mexico some day :S

You acknowledge that you're 'not perfect' whilst at the same time moaning about much of the conflict that you do absolutely nothing productive to stop.

Game moderators are meant to moderate. If you want deeper problems rooted out, speak to the administration. However, I think being less lenient regarding malicious behavior is a good first step.

You've done this 'I'm so DONE with these PLAYERS' routine multiple times now.

I have? This is the first thread of this nature I have made. (I believe?) The only other instance I can think about was a status update I made a while ago where I stated my dissatisfaction with a chunk of the player base and I never stated that I was 'done' with any players.

I know this is meant to be some feel good post or whatever, but you guys in the GM team are far, far from blameless.

When did I state the Game Moderation team was blameless? Of course, we have a part of the responsibility and I encourage other game moderators to be less lenient. I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish with this post.

This post is invalid because the server is called LORD of the Craft. The object is to become LORD of the Craft. Minecraft peons must bend the knee and kiss the ring of their betters.

    Damn. Didn't think this through.

This post is a plea from a soon to be worn down moderator, who’s tired of the endless and pointless squabbling.

    It solves nothing, please stop.

As an avid Dungeons & Dragons player, which many of you are as well; you, as well as I, am aware that the goal isn’t to kill other players, and that there really isn’t any winning. The goal of Dungeons & Dragons is to weave a narrative, hang out, make friends and eat a lot of chips. This is the same for almost every roleplaying game, and our server isn’t that different.

There is no winning on Lord of The Craft.

It wasn’t long after I joined the server, I heard the phrase “Grr, Oren, grr” used by players, who had characters that were Orenian, to mock other nations who complained about them in out of character chat and on the forums; or used by other players sarcastically. While the phrase isn’t used that often anymore, it is unfortunately still what most out of character debates can be boiled down to; and I hear it often as a game moderator.

    “Grr, Dominion, grr”

    ”Grr, Krugmar, grr”

    “Grr, Renatus, grr”

    “Grr, Druids. grr”

    “Grr, Reivers, grr”

Out of character squabbling is not fun; not for you, and certainly not for me. If you encounter a player who is arguing, calling you malicious names and antagonizing you, please turn the other cheek and call a game moderator; “What about” isn’t a valid excuse, what-aboutism is stupid. If I show up one more time to a ticket and must dig through 50 pages of Hawk-Eye logs, displaying malicious out of character arguing, I might lose it.

While in roleplay, it is indeed in some cases 'us versus them', but out of character, we are all playing together. There shouldn’t be a: ‘can’t lose, won’t lose' mindset, we are here to forge stories and adventures together, to make friends, have fun and hey, sometimes losing can be fun. I am sure some of your best roleplay memories, came from something unexpected and I am sure some of the most defining moments for your character were unexpected. So, lose some more, stop the out of character bickering, backseat moderating and verbal abuse. Call a game moderator, if you feel you are treated unfairly and don’t become a part of the problem, that’s why we are here.

I’m nearing the end of my rope and my leniency is nearing its end too. If I see out of character squabbling that could have been easily avoided or malicious behavior on any side, for any reason, you will be punished. We are here to weave a common narrative, if you want to pull at the threads, I don’t want you on the server.

I’m not saying I’m perfect, I’ll work on it too and I know I’m not the most tactful Game Moderator and speak my mind a bit too loudly sometimes, so if you’ve had any unpleasant encounters with me, it’s probably because I’m blunt as a hammer, sorry.
