TO THE HONORABLE SENATOR FROM HELENA, C. NAPIER, AND COLLEAGUES,
Dear sir. I first enlisted in the Imperial State Army some many years ago, joining the 2nd Helena Brigade as an Cadet. I have since had the honor of promotion to Ensign, and am now engaged in active combat within the heartlands with my fellow soldiers, against the invading hordes and their treasonous allies.
While we the people spill our blood in defense of our country, I must express disturbance at the manifest lethargy of our duly-elected representatives. I have as of yet seen no resolution promoted to the floor of your honorable house with intentions either to condemn the traitorous provinces, or words of comfort and support for our soldiers. Additionally, your honorable colleague the Senator from Curon, V. Rutledge, has bravely spoken out against the treachery which the Curonian government has wrought upon its people. I ask that some measure of asylum and resettlement be made offered to these loyalist refugees.
I must beg your pardon, honorable sir, but I believe it is in your best intentions – and that of your chamber – to work at haste, and to feel the rejuvenating vigor that we the people feel in waging this war with our sweat and blood. After all, this war is a war in defense of the constitution. Your venerable chamber, the Imperial Senate, was first instituted by the graces of H.E. Adrian Leopold, and sustained by his chosen successor, H.I.M. Peter III. This war is to decide whether our constitution will last against the sword of despotism.
YOUR CONSTITUENT AND FRIEND,

”Noble and venerable writing.”
Ser Beelzebub comments upon reading the letter, which by then had made its rounds to the streets of Helena.

TO MY BELOVED COUNTRYMEN,
I first enlisted as an ensign under the Protectorate of Adrian. It was a different, unstable time then. I have seen the winds of progress reform the constitution of this country, and witnessed firsthand as the project begun. I write as I bear, with all my countrymen, the existential threat which the State faces.
Some sixteen years ago our fair country was upon the brink of collapse. The war had left our spirit sapped, and discord held free reign upon the hearts of the people. The petty provinces staked their claims, and dug the trenches for a continuation of bloodshed. Unity was to be obliterated.
This was not to be. In brotherhood, the provinces took council with one another, and as if inspired by love for a higher cause, threw down their self-interest, and submitted themselves to the reign of Young Alexander. In history, this was an anomaly. Empires, or so they say, are forged by conquest; but what of love for country?
It was not the sword which brought us from desolation, but a united spirit, that ever-flaming will of an Orenian heart. Our history tells us that the Exalted Sigismund, after the Exodus of Horen the Black, wept in pity for his shattered country. So too did King Silus, his contemporary; so much in sorrow were these two lords, petty as they were, that they threw down their swords, and Silus submitted himself to Sigismund, not by conquest but love: love for Oren, their beloved country.
Preeminent amongst the nations of the world, Oren stands ever in splendor, the finest of the great empires. From sea to shining sea she has spread her influence. The Johannian Restoration saw her triumph against odds which would have cowed lesser men. What is this tenacity, this inveterate will, which has maintained her spirit through the rise and fall of centuries.
It is her people, who throw themselves down at her hearth, who pray at her altars, those great men who surrender their very lives for her continued prosperity. Orenian history, unlike the histories of lesser states, is defined by selfless men. She does not tolerate tyranny, nor does she tolerate those who put themselves above the good of the country; she destroys them, and raises up those who will serve her to their utmost. The histories are filled with these men of courageous virtue. It was Saint Thomas of Gaekrin who mortified his personal ambitions, and surrendered his life to service. It was Adrian Rothesay, that bulwark of the Eighteen Years’ War, who declared that the world was not enough for his beloved Oren. Blessed Vytenis, realizing the peril of his sovereign Emperor John Frederick, threw himself at the feet of his would-be assassins, giving up his ghost that the spirit of the State be preserved.
Is this not the marking of better men? Forgetting themselves, they know only the State. Their courageous hearts they offer, not for personal gain, but for eternity; towering heights of greatness they create, brick by brick, for the glorification of something higher than mere men: their beloved country.
Reports arrive of defeats which we have suffered against the villains who have set themselves to tearing apart the motherland. It is true, we have taken setbacks, and a good few in number. But what shall we do? The State calls for the next generation of men that shall bleed for her continued prosperity, and that of her posterity. In desperation, she calls for the heroes who will maintain her, and the constitution.
I call upon my countrymen to enlist, or die. There are hordes at the gates who believe themselves ready to be our country’s undoing. I have no such biting fears in my heart, that should I die for her sake, it would be in vain; for generations braver hence shall gather up the pieces, and continue the fight for her sake, the eternal cause.

Thomas Elliot Alstion, Imperial Prince of the Empire of Man, Count of Enswerp, 8th General of the Imperial Renatian Legion, and Knight-Errant of the Imperial Order of the Red Dragon.
’the Blue’
Thrust into battle young, Thomas fought alongside his uncle, Cassius Horen. He took to leading naturally, learning from Cassius and even offering useful advice despite his age, proving an apt mind for military strategy. He has passionately defended the capital of the Heartlands throughout his life, believing that it is of utmost importance to keep the city secure and clean of the bandit menace that plagues the continent.
He eagerly told his bedridden father, Charles Elliot, of his military escapades each time he visited him, and asked the aging military genius to aid his own developing mind to lead as well as him, one day. He spent many nights listening to his father’s tales, tending to his coughing fits and cherishing the dwindling time that they had. This continued until Charles’ illness sadly took him during the night.
Having no children of his own, Thomas spent long hours educating his various nephews and nieces on who they should be, almost a father to some. The War of the Two Emperors left a hole in many of these children’s families, one that he happily filled during the downtime of controlling the roads around the settlement of Leuven.
General Elliot was a crucial component of the Renatian warmachine. Renowned for his prowess and decisive nature in battle, he provided his soldiers with a sense of urgency and loyalty which spurred them to action. Elliot’s capability of issuing orders firmly, and ensuring that they were carried out, drove him swiftly up the ranks of the Imperial Renatian Legion.
Elliot earned the epithet ‘the Blue,’ given by Emperor Peter III Sigismund. He is regarded as a siegemaster for his utterly destructive two-year campaign against the Third Atlas Coalition, which saw the capitulation of four cities and the following surrender of the enemy. Without Elliot, it was said, the war would have lasted much longer; and cost many more lives of Imperial soldiers.
He was recalled from retirement during the Orcish Axis War, 1734, by the wishes of Lord Protector Adrian Leopold. When sent against walls of Mokh’Uruk, it’s said that the city capitulated within a mere three days, one of the swiftest victories ever achieved in human history.
The Siege of Arberrang, 1691
Below is Thomas Elliot’s official war record, for all services in command rendered to the Holy Orenian Empire.
Third Atlas Coalition, 1690
Thomas Elliot was promoted temporarily to the office of General in the Imperial Renatian Legion. His exploits included logistical management and siege warfare in unison with Siegemaster Tiberius. Although the office of Grand Marshal was occupied by Cassius Horen, people mistakenly attribute the victories to be his success solely which was not the case. Notable engagements where Thomas Elliot was a primary commander are:
The Siege of Nordengrad, 1690
The Siege of San’Kala, 1690
The Siege of Arberrang, 1691
The Siege of Kal’Tarak, 1692
The Siege of San’Kala, 1690
The Orcish Axis War, 1734
The Western Alliance formed after the Orcish Axis War declared war on the High Elven state of Haelun’or. The Western Alliance advanced upon the fringes of the orcish badlands and set siege to the capital city of the Mohk’Uruk federation. Thomas Elliot was elevated to Imperial High Command and led the Siege of Mohk’Uruk, ending in a victory for the Western Alliance. Notable engagements where Thomas Elliot was a primary commander are:
The Siege of Mohk’Uruk, 1737
For his swift and decisive victory in the Siege of Mohk’Uruk, 1737, Emperor Peter III Sigismund awarded General Elliot with another star. By this recognition, he was raised from a two star general to a three star general, and awarded a baton which signifies his office, and his authority to lead soldiers of the Imperial State Army into battle.

The sun rose across the Lowveld, in a bygone time it was here that the Forty Martyrs of Vintas that had valiantly sacrificed their lives to withhold the orcish tide - yet, that would not be the case today. For General Thomas Elliot, a descendant of the progenitor of Alstion, stood at the helm of a conglomeration of armies of the Western Alliance. The quick-minded Imperial Councilor, Jan Haas, joined the General in relaying his orders to the swathes of men. Haelunorians made a bulk of the main force, and the Nordish troops played an essential role in exploiting breaches in the enemy fortifications.
Magnificent and courageous brigades conscripted from ranks throughout the Orenian Empire led a slow march forward. Hansetian, Curonian, Suffonian, Kaedreni, and Helenan troops united under the Imperial banner, waved on by the General and his staff.
At the far back of the Imperial State Army, towering upon platforms stop the Krugmarian Hills, laid the trebuchets manned by the siegeworks of the 2nd Imperial Brigade, ‘Helena Gunners.” Under the astute eyes of King Adrian I, the 2nd Brigade’s trebuchets wrought havoc against the orcish ranks. The horns of war were blown as the army advanced upon the stout fortress, rocks hurled overhead, crashing into the walls of the enemy structure.
The start of the battle was merely a brief exchange of arrows, the opposing armies flanked opposite the another, sending flurries of exchanged shots. Little casualties occurred at this point until a fatal blow amongst the outer walls of the city blew open a large hole at its side. One loyal Ruric, by the name of Lyanna, managed to slip up to the wall undetected to lay the ladders down that should act as the foundation for the assault.
With that, the army of the Western Alliance surged forward, pouring against the barricade as they clambered up amongst it and routed the Orcs from their walls to the inner-city with many casualties for their enemy being incurred. Morale echoed amongst the Western Alliance as their victory seemingly became certain, for all that lay between them and victory were the vestiges of orcish forces couped within their small fortress.
And on-call, the inner fortress succumbed to the flurry of stones crashing into the side of it, delivered by the siegeworks; the Nordish frontline immediately seized upon the opportunity, and it only took so long before the inner fortress fell and every enemy within was butchered.
It was this day that General Thomas Elliot, at the head of the Western Alliance, secured the first victory as they stood atop the ruins of the Orcish war-damaged city. Vengeance was had for the massacre of the Vintasians, and Krugmar was made to submit to Imperial scepter.

HE LIVED AS HE DIED
Two knocks upon the door left little impact. The townhouse before Peter de Sarkozy responded with quaint silence - how uncommon, for the Haas house is among the great centers of Helena, often teeming with soldiers, diplomats, and curates. After another knock, and a shout of greeting, the Treasurer merely laid down his hands in defeat.
Around the bend happened to come a trio of soldiers. Darius of Rubern, Milenko, and Isaac, three veterans of war, stopped to greet Peter. The men had apparently come for a blessing of the Pontiff, as the Faithful were wont in the last years. Explaining his helplessness to the men, they sought alternative measures, fearing the worst: the veterans vaulted through alleyways, and Peter beset upon the door with the butt of his sword. So too recently had the Cardinal Renzfeld arrived, fumbling for keys. Long had the High Pontiff suffered from gout - what tragedy could await?
A haunting sight greeted the desperate lot of men. Slumped within the confines of the high chair of his dinner table, pale as a ghost, having given up his pulsing heart long before, sat the Pontiff in all his earthly veneer. His expression was content, and a glass of spilled wine stained the tablecloth. His body was limp and cold, a dead man.
At once, a crowd formed outside of the townhouse, full with curious onlookers, weeping and mourning at the news. The Lord Mayor, Tybis de Ruyter, had been summoned by local soldiers. Pandemonium was at hand, until the Cardinal Ves, a long-time associate and friend of the late Pontiff, began to offer the man his last rites. All stood in silence, drying their tears in reverence.
In time, the body was delivered to a gondola to be taken down the root-like canalways of the Jewel of Humanity towards the Basilica of the Final Revelation. There he lay in state, a vigil of Imperial soldiers kept about his lifeless body.
