In-Character Information Character’s Name (Name He Addresses Himself To When Speaking To Apes) : Shadss Anlind Character's Birth Name (Name He Addresses Himself To When Speaking To Other Kharajyr): Sha'adzi A'inlund Character’s Gender: Male Character’s Race: Kharajyr Character’s Age: 23, born on the first leaf fall Personality: Shadss is a paladin, but is not the paladin that you think of. He is a holy warrior of justice and a protector of the innocent, but he's not the nicest guy you'd ever meet (Lawful Good doesn't always mean Lawful Nice). Shadss has a sense of humor, and usually takes teasing and insults quite well, laughing them off most of the time. Shadss also dishes out a fair amount of word combat, loving to see someone hang there head in defeat when they know they've been beaten. Just because he's vulgar and teases quite often, doesn't mean Shadss is not a caring soul. He attempts to help all in need and consoles people when he can. To Shadss, being a paladin is about protecting others at all cost, and vanquishing those that cause harm. Shadss loves music and poetry, so many people confuse him for a bard, which he takes as a compliment. He loves to play music and write, putting heart into every word and lyric. He often plays music with the gauntlets on, making the strings create strange noises at will, allowing him to make several noises with one string set without having to change the strings on the "Instrument". Shadss is well educated on other races and their languages. Shadss is Fluent in Common and Kharajyr (The entire language), but is less capable with Elvish and Dwarven(Common phrases and slightly advanced words.), and even less educated with Orcish (A few words.). Reading and writing is pretty much the same. is the easiest to read, along with Human writing. Elvish is easier to understand than Dwarven, but Orchish is barley understandable. Shadss is an insane drinker. He drinks like his liver is made of steel, and puts some Dwarven alcoholics to shame. Shadss constantly carries around a silver flask with the Letters S and A engraved in gold on the face of the flask (look above for more details). Shadss' favorite type of drink is wine, and then ale, followed up by vodka and whiskey. Other drinks like scotch and gin don't really excite Shadss, but he'll pretty much drink anything. Shadss can often be found at a bar, drinking his sorrows away as he draws and writes. Shadss is a decent artist, always creating sketches of other people, monsters, and random things he comes across. He carries only a charcoal pencil to write and doodle, and constantly needs to purchase more pencils. Throughout time, he's learned how to carve rough pencils, but not at the quality that he normally buys them in. Shadss loves to lead, and is good with people. He's a great conversation starter, and usually makes allies by telling jokes and naturally being a good person. Shadss is a decent leader, and has no fear of speaking in front of several people. When leading, Shadss attempts to put his followers first, and himself second, making decisions as a whole rather than a single. Shadss has few fears that haunt him, but the ones that do surround his every move. Spiders and other arachnids for that matter strike fear into Shadss like nothing else. Snakes don't bother Shadss, but put a spider anywhere near him and he'll cower like nothing else. In a life or death situation, Shadss might be able to conquer his fear, but... Things are not set in stone. Shadss... Has a temper, to say the least. Ambitions: To help as many as he can before his own death, and to drink a bottle of Golden Lips. Strengths/Talents: Can see exceptionally well in the dark, Is rather artistic, rather understanding with various, a rather good singer for a Kharajyr, can play rather good at stringed instruments, charismatic Weaknesses/Inabilities: Deathly terrified of arachnids, lustful, alcoholic, too selfless at times, inept at percussion instruments, carving in anything but stone is terrifyingly garbage, intense anger issues, occasionally prideful, masochistic, Appearance: Look: Shadss is very attractive. He has a dark brown, bedraggled pelt with ebony stripes that come down his entire body. His eyes are the most noticeable part of his entire . His eyes look like grey diamonds, with shards of lightly colored sapphire scattered around the iris. Shadss' eyes change with the seasons, in fall his irises turn into a light amber, mixed with the grey that they usually are. Shards of ruby replace the sapphire that usually adorn his irises. Shadss has a small scar across his left cheek from bar fights, but it's usually not noticeable. Shadss stands at a towering 6'4, and weighs in at 245 pounds (Large for a Kharajyr). Shadss has a muscular build, (which you would naturally get from trotting around in steel armor all day) and has the strength of a slightly below average Orc male. Shadss has several scars across his body from various combat situations. One long scar reaches across his torso, starting at his left shoulder and going down to his right hip. Light scars decorate his forearms and biceps in various patterns. The most noticeable scar is the one across the palm of his left hand, that slightly glows with a very dim golden color. Shadss wears two layers of clothes, (one undergarments, one standard clothes) a set of plate armor, carries a kite shield, and wields a bastard sword. He also carries a small journal and a strange... "Instrument" (?) around at all times. Let's get into detail. Underclothes: Shadss wears standard male fur underwear. Nothing special there. Standard Clothes: Shadss wears a tunic made of elk hide. The elk hide was softened on the inside by fluffing the fur on the elk while the outside was tanned and roughed, giving the same amount of protection as very thin set leather armor. Several tiny iron studs, about the size of half a penny, are scattered around the chest and arms of the tunic, as to protect from dagger and small sword slashes in certain places. A stabbing motion or a larger sword would in fact cut right through the tunic, as it is just a simple leather shirt, slightly modified. Shadss' greaves are no different, coming down to his ankles and containing the several iron studs embedded in the hide. The greaves contain several small pouches in the thighs to hold medical herbs and small vials of potions and water. Shadss wears wool socks that go under the greaves and reach up to the rim of his ankle. The socks are a pure white. Shadss has gotten used to the slightly heavier than normal clothes over the years and finds putting on normal clothes throws him off balance slightly. He finds the clothes comfortable, so much so that he sometimes sleeps in the clothing, not needing a blanket. He rarely takes off the clothing, only to wash the set every other day or so. Plate-Mail: Shadss wears a steel plate-mail breastplate that comfortably forms to Shadss' chest. The breastplate, like the rest of his armor, is polished to give a platinum look to it. The breastplate has two layers in it, one is the plate itself, the outer shell of the armor. The inner layer is two layers of chainmail, usually enough to stop an arrow, but not a crossbow-bolt. Shadss does not need leather on the inside of his armor, as the leather tunic provides enough comfort and mobility. In the middle of the breastplate, near the heart, is a golden dragon head, looking down. The golden dragon head has the word "Anart (Honor/Pride)" engraved in Dwarven down the bridge of the dragon's snout. Shadss has two identical shoulder pads. The two pieces of armor protect the entire area around his shoulder, under his armpit, and down his bicep. The shoulder pads are made of steel, and also have two layers. Not of plate and chain, but just of plate to add mobility and comfort. The shoulder pads are separated into two pieces, one of them protecting all of the shoulder and another piece which goes on top of the first piece, protecting the top of the shoulder and the neck of slashes. The plates extend out slightly, looking like the pads have two spikes extending out of the side of them. The arm piece of the pads extend down his bicep, covering it from slashes and jabs. Shadss wears two bracers that wrap around his fore-arms. The bracers, like all of his armor, are made of steel. The inside of the bracers are covered with a single layer of chainmail, not going to stop an arrow at close range, but provide extra stabbing protection. The bracers have the word "Naeri" engraved in them in Elven on the top of the bracers. A square is etched around the words in the bracers, symbolizing that his faith is always protected. Shadss wears two plate gauntlets that connect to the bracers. The gauntlets are the only piece of armor in Shadss' gear that has comforting taken into account. Wolf hide is in the base of the gloves, adding a decent amount of comfort for Shadss' hands. Surrounding that, is chainmail. Two layers of chainmail surround the pitch black wolf hide, giving a near checkerboard pattern. On the tops of the gauntlets is a large plate, covering the top of the hand. On the fingers are several smaller plates that end on every joint of the finger, allowing free mobility of hands. Engraved on the main plate of the hand is the word "Nuutshara" in Orcish. Shadss wears a well-fitted pair of steel greaves, that have the same layers as the breastplate. The greaves have a layer of two layers of chainmail under the steel plates. The knee caps are the best protected (No, that's not an arrow to the knee joke), having slightly thicker plates and a small spike on the end of them. This can also be used for hand to hand combat. Above his greaves, Shadss has a fairly thick belt on, made of bear hide. The belt has several bags attached to it for medical herbs and small potions, for healing. The belt buckle is a thin steel square, with a platinum rim. Written in Dwarven is the word "Ryn", on the belt buckle. Shadss wears two steel boots that double as shin guards in the front, over-lapping the greaves on the shins (Because getting kicked in the shins hurts.). The boot ends out in a point, which keeps Shadss on balance in combat, and doubles as a dull spear head in unarmed combat. The boots also have wolf hide on the inside of them, for comfort. "Guardian" the Shield: Guardian is a steel kite shield made from Orcish blacksmiths. The shield is thick, but light compared to most tower shields. The shield is in a standard kite shield formation, with a hook on each side of the shield to grapple weapons from other opponents. The shield's face has a golden phoenix on it, with wings stretched out to the sides of the shield. Engraved in Human on the shield's face is the word "Guardian" with a small phrase engraved at the bottom of the shield, "Protector of Honor". "Reaper" the Bastard Sword: Reaper is a bastard sword. What more can you say? A bastard sword is a double edged sword that's good at cutting through, and at the same time, smashing through armor and bones. The blade of Reaper is two and a half foot long steel menace, able to cut through leather armor, stab through chainmail, and bash through plate. The hand guard for reaper is dark iron, with platinum ornaments on it. Several religious symbols align the hand guard, honoring the glorious Goddess Metztil. The handle of reaper is a steel rod with bear hides tightly wrapped around the rod, and held together with iron bands. The pummel is a silver sphere with several attachments and extensions on it, to give the blade more balance. Armor: 68 Pounds Shield: 10 Pounds Bastard Sword: 3.5 Pounds Clothes: 1.6 pounds Total Weight: 83.1 pounds. Skin: Backstory: [iNFANCY] Shadss was born upon the first leaf fall, as well as a full moon. His birth was rather difficult, causing his mother devastating pain, but Shadss still came out without any physical defects. Shadss's mother was of a Kha'Leparda decent, while his father was of Kha'Tigrasi decent. Shadss retained most of his father's traits, although his skin would be slightly lighter due to his mother's pelt. Shadss' father was a very massive Tigrasi, weighing in at 287 pounds and standing in at 6'7. Shadss' mother, however, was quite small, only being 5'4 and 135 pounds soaking wet. Shadss inherited most of his father's traits, including his alcoholism at a later age. Shadss didn't learn how to walk until slightly later than the average child should know how to, however he did learn how to 'communicate' and he spoke his first word much earlier than the average child should be able to. [CHILDHOOD] When Shadss reached the age of 5, he was overly interested in various forms of art as well as literature, although he could not read all too well. As his parents worked, Shadss' uncle took over in teaching him reading as well as writing, being as there is no established education for the Kharajyr. By the age of 8, Shadss was able to understand complex words as well as write them with eligible handwriting, showing both his uncle and his parents his ability to comprehend teachings. Shadss continued his teachings until he reached the age of 10, in which his parents retreated from the homeland of the Kharajyr and ventured to the Human capital of Petrus, a path that took tow and a half weeks to complete, much longer than what they packed for. The reason for the insane amount of length that the journey had taken was for the family's inexperience with traveling, as well as the various twists and turns that they've put themselves through accidentally. [ADOLESCENCE] As Shadss aged to the period of cub while he traveled with his parents to land of Petrus. The reason of the move was lost to Shadss, due to his age and lack of understanding of the world around him. During this time period, Shadss' intelligence decreased as his spirit got hard, food being scarce along the journey. At many times during the path, hope was lost and the reason for pressing forward became unclear, until the small family made the walls of Petrus. Shadss' father made work as a sellsword, while his mother attempted to get a position as a priest within the walls of the human city, although she was quickly outcast from the church. Shadss was left with his uncle while they fished and discussed books, however Shadss found the activity insanely boring. He quickly became rather good at fishing, although his hatred for the activity became apparent throughout the months that he and his uncle spent together. Shadss and his family took residence in a very small home, meant for a family of two rather than four, making it a very tight space. When Shadss was not fishing with his uncle, he focused on regaining his lost education, as well as attempting to learn the human language. By the age of fifteen, Shadss became rather fluent in common speech, as well as the speaking patterns of the common human. His parents saw this disregard of their tribal speech disgusting, as well as disrespectful, which lead to several beatings from his father. Despite this, Shadss' uncle assisted him in learning the speaking patterns of a human, as well as their writing and reading styles. [EARLY ADULTHOOD] Once Shadss reached the age of sixteen, a year older than the natural progression for a standard Kharajyr, his growth spurts began to kick in, resulting in intense growth over a short period of time. Both his parents as well as his uncle attempted to hammer in their arts into Shadss' schedule. His father attempted to train Shadss in the art of blade and shield, as he purposefully have Shadss train with armor and blades that were heavier than normal, and highly impractical. His mother attempted to teach her son in the religious ways, however at that time Shadss had little to no interest in his mother's preaching, however he did listen to them on occasion while training with his father, or while drawing and writing. What did peak his interest, however, was his uncle's profession. Many times in his life he heard his uncle pluck upon the strings of his lute, or play the violin to coo him to sleep, however Shadss never dreamed he could learn to play the instruments himself. However, once he met the maturity age, his uncle began to teach him in the ways of the string instrument, the beautiful chords echoing through the small house as they practiced. At first, Shadss' ineptness at the instrument was almost humorous, although throughout time he became better and better, as his mother gently hummed and recited poetry to him whilst he played. At the age of seventeen, however, he lost all interest in the musical art when his mother passed away from ailments in her sleep. Shadss was sent into a spiral of depression, and for a year found his bliss within a bottom of a bottle and a charcoal pencil. Shadss' artistic skills skyrocketed through the roof whilst his poetry and drawings were created nonstop while drowned within an alcoholic haze that seemed to last half a year. After around five months of depression, Shadss found his peace in his mother's words and her religion, taking up the book and following in her footsteps. However, when he started learning the religion from his mother's journals and books about Metztli, the habit and glorious burn from the alcohol was already inbound into his mind. From this point on, his religious teachings, combat training, and musical practices had to be served with a pint. ` Shadss trained an progressed his intellect as well as physical strength until the age of 24, in which he set out on his own with his father's armor pinned to his back and his blade by his side. His story is far from over, some say it might have only begun. Only time will tell. (( I understand that there's plot holes as well as problems with my backstory, however I wrote this 3 times already thanks to power outages, and I will go about fixing them as quickly as possible. I just wanted to get my app out there A.S.A.P so I can rest easy before the night is over. ))
