Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

Musin are the offshoot descendants of the Ratiki ratfolk. Initially deviating from the Ratiki as runts, over many generations they came to differ greatly from their origin, physically, mentally and culturally.

Living to around 70 years old, Musin remain diminutive throughout their lives with most sitting somewhere near 2’0 in height, give or take a few inches, with tails of equal length to their body. They resemble mice in almost all regards, and beyond their size the greatest distinction from domestic mice is their bipedal nature; the eyes may be pink, red or black; their fur is virtually identical to domestic mice, in that they may have various patterns, textures and lengths.

Unlike their Ratiki cousins, Musin are very clean and will groom themselves at least twice a day, whether by combing their fur with their fingers or with other tools they fashion for themselves. A similarity between them and ratfolk however, is their urge to scavenge and hoard; Musin have a strong urge to make use of the bits and pieces that the Descendant races would consider scrap or trash, or even objects left unattended. It is in their nature to be curious and to waste nothing.

If this construct or creature has some form of aesthetic choice, can you describe how they look?

Resembling domestic mice for the most part, Musin typically wear clothing created from the offcuts and scraps of Descendant throw-aways. Hoods and cloaks are made from discarded blankets or tunics, while ‘ringmail’ might be created from bangles sewn upon a jacket, rapiers from sharpened knitting needles and so on, and all Musin attire is recycled from discarded materials and typically has a rough and tattered appearance.

The romanticism they hold for the Descendants impacts Musin culture significantly, and this is viewed in their clothing and appearance, where the mousefolk will attempt to replicate the attire of medieval peasantry in a strange mish-mash of colours which don’t really fit well with each other. The lore makes the apt comparison to bad ren faire costumes as the Musin’s go-to appearance.

Me and 4 friends, one of which was an ET, strolled up to Elysium, since it was the most populated at the time, as hedge knights and challenged people to random challenges, such as a drinking contest or my challenge which was to see who could harvest more land in 5 minutes. It was entertaining to us since we got to interact with a community we rarely go to, and I hope it was entertaining to those who participated. It would be fantastic to see ETs more focused on the small things like that rather than large eventlines, would make the server a lot more realistic if we were doing small stuff like finding a missing child or stopping a fire rather than facing npc army #563.

I was there for that, it was fun and it didn't need context or any foreshadowing either. They were just some larger-than-life characters who turned up and roleplayed.

    Description:

An odd, blackened wood that is as hard and as heavy and iron and fixed in whatever shape it’s fashioned into. It looks like and has the texture of a dense hardwood but has the cool surface and heft of a piece of wrought iron.

I think you mean "as hard and as heavy AS iron"

Nicely formatted, and so much better than the old lore. Well done.

  5. Niv thought back to the long night, when the Sun had been eclipsed and plunged the world into darkness. When she first saw the Hei-zhu stood alone in a boat upon the glassy waters of Aegrothond's Starlight Bay; how he had moved so gracefully and yet so powerfully. How kind and wise he was, when they had spoken, so much so even that she did not recognise him as the young Hou she had met many years before. "Marathri'lle y'ameonn Annyere," the Drui had called him. 'Gentle Dragon, Who Dances Upon Wood.'

Looking out over the sea, with the Sun shining and the wind sweeping through the trees, Niv's eyes gleamed with tears. "Flesh to soil.. blood to water.. bone to dust.." Releasing a sigh she then inclined her head into the light and closed her eyes before her tears could fall.

  6. A lari with hair as red as flame found her way from one missive to the next, her fingertips tracing the fine paper and the indentations which accompanied the scrawling of ink. Her minds eye, which had seen much in her lifetime by now, recalled from her youth how many of her people were pale of skin and had dyed hair of bright colours; how such had only come to an end when the Mali'ame had been introduced to culture, and how that culture had grown richer and more vibrant than any dye in any hair.

Glancing off with glowing eyes, and a luminous tattoo upon her shoulder, she pondered for a long moment. The Dominion had not been so long ago, for she had lived prior to its founding and now after its collapse, a golden era of independence flecked with its own perils many of which she never warmed to. Then she remembered before that time, living under the yoke of Valah Imperialism under the threat of Orcish raiders and Haelun'orian genocide, and how she had voiced for independence and backbone on more than one occasion; how many so loud and fierce now, would be as loud back then?

MC Item description (the exact description that will be used for the MC item if this MArt is accepted):

Description of the Boon when applied:

An Ilzakarn inscription tattooed into the flesh or equivalent of a soul-bearing mortal, with an iridescent substance replacing the usual ink. To all but a Naztherak or Inferi, the scrawl makes the eyes dry and uncomfortable as if staring into a bright flame.

    Daz’hon ra’driiknak za ra’Mozizhkar,
    Ta’dok daz’naakh ra’denu
    tidak
Akun za ta’zak akun, mokn dok
    Daz’hvan za ra’Zevir’zak Akun.

"See the generosity of the Archangel,
She who gifts the wretched with
Flesh of her flesh, they who
    Possess of the Devil’s Flesh."

Example description of the limbs it creates:

A monstrous appendage more alike to the damnable limbs of hellish fiends than of mortal Descendants. Although proportioned for the one who bore it, its flesh was discoloured to a pale lavender with mottled streaks and patches of ivory white flecked through its skin. Its skin was as if a great scar layered over silken scales, bumpy and uneven all over. The fingernails were black and would bleed should they be cut. It did not appear to be joined to a vestigial stump, but rather the flesh faded to the natural hue and complexion of its bearer, as if it had grown from them in such a vile state. It exhibited ash and even a fiery glow at times.

    Effect(s) of the Artifact:

As a Naztherak boon “Zevir’zak Akun” will bestow its bearer with up to one full replacement limb of the inscribing Naztherak’s choice, but the replacement will be monstrous and grotesque in all circumstances.

The limb will always have discoloured skin, drawing toward dark and grey tones, accompanied with unevenness like scars, burns, abrasions or even scales. The nails will be dark or even black and will bleed when cut, but are no stronger than the nails of mundane counterparts. Webbed fingers, vestigial teeth and eyes are common and the limb ultimately appears as though it was ripped from the body of an Inferis and manifested upon the recipient. Such limbs are known to leave ash in their wake or drip with cinders or even smoulder harmlessly.

The resulting limb is functionally identical to its mundane counterpart, meaning were a man to have his right arm restored, it would be as strong as his left and so on. Assuming the recipient undergoes adequate training, has access to good nutrition etc., the limb will respond as if it were normal i.e. gaining or losing muscle mass and so on. Its strength is capped at the receiving race’s maximum lore-approved strength.

Similarly the limb, its skin, nails etc. offer no alchemical reagents or other such ingredients, unless a separate lore submission is made detailing so.

This replacement is subject to all normal means of harm and vulnerability. Its bones may be broken or shattered by the blow of a mace, or even cut off entirely with an appropriately powerful sweep of a sword, or axe. One may wear clothing and armour over it as per usual, and it may be disguised with long sleeves and gloves.

Like all boons, “Devir’zak Akun” must be accompanied by a bane for it to function adequately. Should the tattoo or its accompanying bane be scored out, purged or otherwise destroyed, the limb will dissolve into a sludge and slough off onto the ground. This leaves the recipient with only their original vestigial stump.

    Red Lines of the Artifact:

    General

    - The boon may be taught by a Naztherak who possesses Pacting and has themselves been taught the boon.

    - The inscription must be no smaller than the size of a credit card.

    - Like all boons and banes, a note must be made upon the Naztherak’s MA which details who this boon is given to, and which bane accompanies it.

    - It is not possible to restore tongues, eyes and so on.

    Tattoo

    - If the boon’s tattoo or bane is scored through, cut out or purged with Paladinism etc., the limb will drop off as a sludge and be irrecoverable.

    - One application of the boon restores a single limb, from pelvis to foot or shoulder to hand, or half-limb of knee to foot, elbow to hand.

    - For the boon to function it must be accompanied by a bane.

    - It may be applied using the typical fashion of tattooing or painting rakir prepared from the Naztherak’s maleus and their striith’s blood, onto the recipient.

    - This boon counts as 1 boon, insofar as a count of striith blood is able to create per week.

    - If the tattoo is destroyed, it may be reapplied.

    - The boon’s tattoo or marking must not be upon the vestigial limb(stump) itself, nor may it appear in any other place which would make discovering it inappropriate for the server.

    Limbs

    - The replacement limb is mechanically identical to its mundane counterpart for the race of the receiving character.

    - Its maximum strength is always that of the receiver’s race.

    - The limb is not invulnerable, and like its mundane counterpart it may be cut off, bones broken and so on. One may similarly die due to blood loss if it is cut off and not treated adequately.

    - All aesthetics of the limb must be non-combative and provide no benefit, e.g. vestigial eyes cannot be seen through, no natural ‘armour’ and so on.

    - Any limb created must be grotesque and demonic in appearance.

    - Players are permitted small ash, smoke and ember effects to purely aesthetic ends.

    - Should the limb be destroyed or severed, it will not regrow. Should it need replacing, a second count of the boon must be reapplied.

    - This contributes to the maximum limit of 3 boons, which is to say one may only have the monstrous limb replaced more than twice.

    - Long sleeves and gloves are enough to disguise the limb at a distance. Should one remove gloves, clothing etc. its unnatural appearance will be obvious.

Explanation of the effect(s) (i.e. how it does what it does - slight bending of magic lore is allowed):

Much of Naztherak magic is about the power of words, from a Prince assigning a name to their bound Inferi as a means of subjugation, to the incantations of malflame conjurations, to the innate volatility of inscribing the names of powerful Inferi in Ilzakarn.

With the knowledge of Boons and Banes from Naztherak’s Pacting subtype, Mozizhkar has essentially created what amounts to a unique incantation to conjure a replacement limb. This is to serve as a tempting Faustian bargain for mortals to pact with herself and ultimately pave the way for further infernal damnation.

As per Pacting lore, TA holders may submit new boons and banes via MArt submission.

  8. My Druid has intense flashbacks to violent imagery from Mystery's Voidal Tear eventline. Sometimes I roleplay that as her being tired from poor sleep, avoiding certain triggers or at points a feeling of low mood and vulnerability, sometimes she will just hug her granddaughter for some reassurance. I like to think I RP her experience tastefully, and piggybacking on Mori's reply a bit- I think that's partly because I haven't put a diagnosis on it, I roleplay symptoms or consequences of symptoms, rather than trying to play to a 'syndrome' as such.

And touching on Nectorist's point, my Dwarf is utterly unfazed by a lot of her experiences. This is in part because I haven't been playing her as long, she hasn't endured as much trauma I don't think, but also because as a Dwarf she is magically blessed with this unyielding stubbornness.

  9. A spectral relic of a romantic era long past finds the letter, gleaming as if tarnished moonlight. Its visor followed the text and its armoured fingers touch the paper as it stirred in a chill breeze, phasing through in ethereal error. The words cut like no mortal steel could, the phantom knight glancing off in morose rumination.

    • Birding to meet up for roleplay is a necessary convenience. This is a game, it's meant to be fun.

    • The server is melting after the recent removal of Vortex(via ripping it out by the ballbag based on the mess it's left). Poor tps and disabling nodes to compensate is negatively impacting player experience. Can we really rely on an aviary plugin? Why was the old aviary plugin removed? Will that issue not also resurface?

    • Couriers would be cool, and things such as Housemagery letter delivery, Naztherak familiars etc. are also lore-friendly ways to achieve the same thing. As much as I acknowledge that birds exist for convenience, I have to concede that "magic pigeon which knows where my friend is to conveniently metarally" is bad™︎
  10. Nivndil remembers being referred to as a 'mudskin' outside Felsen, Vailor, as she brought food to feed the hungry. She remembers being told to cover her shoulders by packs of roaming thugs, masquerading as holy men. She remembers seeing Mali'ker women crucified outside villages on Athera, and she remembers the woman with clipped ears who came to Cerulin and tried to preach about Canonist doctrine.

Looking up into the sunshine then, the lari remembered the many prayers she helped to scribe in the ancient tongue. Although she characteristically doesn't smile, her features warm as she remembers the many faces who attended her lectures on Elven language; Druids, Dedicants and friends of all races. She would never forget how the Empire had brutalised her people, however.
