  1. Within a tropical paradise, with many chirping birds of bright colours, waves lapping against the rocks below in a rush of surf, there was a garden. Dotted with trees and headstones to past Drui, there sat one of the living among the remembered dead. In a ring of mushrooms, cross-legged and straight-backed Nivndil's head was inclined and her eyes glowing brightly. Her body was eerily still, mind lost in meditation.

She remembered meeting Ugrad for the first time, and her apprehension given the long history of violence between Wood Elves and Orcs. Yet she also remembered those moments when the Rex had spoken of his life-mate, and the gentleness he'd displayed. Although the Drui rarely smiled, she had come close then. Nivndil would remember Ugrad as the best of Orc-kin, brave and ferocious in the face of his enemies, but loyal and committed to his allies and friends.

  2. A Starbreaker twirls a warhammer in her right hand, raising an Ironwood shield with the left. In the depths of the mountain Kingdom of Urguan, her steel platemail gleams in the golden light of flickering braziers and lanterns. "COME AN' FOCKIN' GET 'EM YEAH PURE MUTAN'S!" she roars into the deep and the dark.

  4. Do Sikil Chalk and Aeternum Oil require ST signing? It is not explicitly mentioned either way.

Otherwise, this is a very interesting and tasty submission. Thank you for not cramming the mechanics into the flavour text, it makes it substantially easier for dumb-dumbs like me to read. Housemagery tattoo is cute.

Within the woods, there grim and dreary,

Slumbers he, yet is so weary.

For long has laid his noble head,

    Deep within the river's bed.

Approacheth now the woes of war,

    Famine, death, disease and more.

    Soldiers slaughter farming folk

And brigands circle 'pon the yoke.

Left to rust, his armour rent,
    But knightly virtue yet unbent.

His sacred vow is long forgotten,

    Chivalry bereft and turn'd rotten.

Yet still he hears the meek and mild,
Their cries of crimes left unreconciled.

    Still unrested he wake'th now,
For he remembers his knightly vow.

Before the realm do'th bathe in blood,
May he wrench himself from river mud.

Climb its banks to rise and stand,
There let him find his strength of hand.

A silver warrior of noble past,

Of great valour and heart steadfast.

Restore thy honour, for goodness fight,
Don thy mantle o' Grey Knight.

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

    Spoiler

Phantoms, or ghosts as they’re commonly referred to, are the spectral manifestation of the soul of a deceased individual stagnating within the Elysian Wastes, the bridge from the world of the living to the Soulstream. If the deceased is afraid to move on, perhaps for the uncertainty for the beyond, through the sheer trauma of their death, or even pure stubbornness, they may linger on in the Elysian for some time.

During this spell drifting between worlds, the spirit typically lives out their life as it was prior to their death. In many cases they will attempt to continue with work, cook and eat and so on, until they discover that their intangible form is incapable of interacting with material reality, and the other people moving about them cannot see or hear them. At this point, the spirit may begin to foster social discomfort, as they struggle to make sense of their experience, unable to fully grasp that they are dead.

A spirit in this state is comprised entirely of ectoplasm, a substance which contains a curious mix of mana and lifeforce and does not exist fully within the mortal world. As a result the Phantom is typically intangible and ethereal, leading to them having a wispy spectral appearance. Phantoms may collide and interact with other spectral entities or even objects as if they has physical mass, such as grappling with Wights or other Phantoms. Their strength is meagre when compared to the likes of an Apparition or Eidola.

Because aurum has the ability to destabilise ectoplasm, its mere contact with a phantom is enough to elicit horrible pain, insofar that the spectral undead is able to perceive pain. Such is experienced as a dulled burning sensation, colliding with the phantom’s immaterial form as iron does to mortal man. Although lacerations and so on may heal passively over a few IRL days, it takes only two or three good blows from aurum to render a ghost destroyed. They may not cross solid lines of aurum.

As the spirit is already undead however, upon being ‘destroyed’ their ectoplasm is merely scattered and they must take 24 IRL hours to recuperate themselves and reform. Should they be forced to do so several times within a short period however, it will take substantially longer. I note that how long is not stated in lore, although the consensus from Phantom players is one IRL week.

    Revenant
When first manifesting, the deceased will take the form of a Revenant, typically witnessed as a grey phantasmal version of their prior selves, albeit with some minor ghastly alterations. They may display wounds or symptoms associated with their death, such as bloating from drowning, or a marking about the throat from its cutting or a hanging, although these are not usually too gruesome. The Revenant is still discovering their abilities and as such may accidentally dematerialise or move objects, leading to various phenomena associated with hauntings. They also have an aura of mourning and cold about them.

Upon being faced with the fact that the Revenant is indeed dead, it may take one of two possible shifts. They may accept their life and demise, making peace with themselves and to a degree move past the trauma of their death, leading to their development into a Spectre. Alternatively they may be so overwhelmed by hurt and fear, that they reject their death and surrender to the trappings of denial, developing into a Poltergeist.

Examples of Revenants include ‘grey ladies’ and other wispy or shy ghost sightings.

    Spectre
By accepting and making peace with their death, a Spectre is able to alter their sombre aura into one of positivity, such as feelings of safety, comfort or even warmth, while their incorporeal body may take on hues of blue or even yellow. They also develop a greater degree of manipulation over their ectoplasm, permitting the Spectre better control of material objects than the Revenant, while also allowing for the ghost to change its form into an animal, possess objects and even the living, and create a ‘sanctuary’ as a focus of their haunting. This subtype of Phantom is usually benign and good-natured, but may also adopt a mischievous countenance.

An example of Spectres might include sightings or reports of smells and ‘feelings’ of a familiar family member being near, long after their death.

    Poltergeist
By rejecting their death and living in denial, the Poltergeist endures a torturous existence. Their mournful aura instead grows anxious and uneasy, and their visible manifestation may take on malignant tones of red and black, while displaying grotesque or monstrous symptoms of their death, much more unsettling or violent than the Revenant. The Polgergeist’s ability to control objects is improved over both Revenants and Spectres when in their own haunt, which is more intimidating and frightful than the ‘sanctuary’ of a Spectre. Although not explicitly evil, a Poltergeist is more prone to negativity, insofar that they are hurting or miserable and they may well drag others down to their level while blinded by grief. The Poltergeist may also possess objects, living and dead bodies.

An example of a Poltergeist might include so called ‘demonic possession’, but also various unnerving areas of a building, where visitors are inexplicably uncomfortable when alone.

If this construct or creature has some form of aesthetic choice, can you describe how they look?

Phantoms are wispy and translucent, parts of their bodies may be obscured or invisible at times, such as the legs and so on. Revenants are of the grey-ish and pale appearance, while Spectres may include hues of blue or yellow, and Poltergeists feature gruesome symptoms of their death in dark reds and black. I have commissioned a skin, but it's not ready quite yet.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?
    Alchemy

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Alchemy is the study of the inherent properties of any given substance, and subsequent interpretation of the material alphabet through signs and symbols, in order to mix base substances of said materials with other ingredients to create entirely new compounds. In the context of server lore, it is comparable to the study of biology, chemistry and physics within a fantasy world where instead of periodic elements, atoms and subatomic particles, all facets of material existence are instead composed of symbols.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Alchemy is an umbrella term, used to refer to the fantasy-scientific study of the material world and its processes. It includes many ‘schools’ or subcategories of alchemy, such as “alteration alchemy,” “infernal alchemy” and so on, each studying a different facet of the material reality of a fantasy world, and its applications in the form of potions, oils and so on.

Regarding basic alchemy, this consists of the study of the material alphabet as a system of glyphs, with numerous interpretations of each, but which effectively symbolise various base concepts of the world. These include things such as “Growth”, “Connection” and “Coldness”, but also “Fire”, “Order”, “Metal” and “Peace”. An alchemist begins their study by first learning these concepts, typically referred to as ‘symbols’ and then identifying qualities of various substances, dubbed ‘reagents’, which can be cross-referenced with such symbols.

Application of this knowledge involves the extraction of these signs and symbols, followed by the mixing of them into a fairly uniform recipe, and the eventual creation of a totally new substance effectively created from the “sum of parts” from its constituent reagents.

Identification: The examining of reagents, such as herbs, but also blood, liquid mana and so on, for its signs and symbols. A T1 alchemist is incapable of doing this themselves, and must have another identify signs and symbols for them, or use information provided by books, notes and so on. The alchemist observes the properties of the reagent and mentally assigns a sign or symbol based upon their understanding of the material alphabet.

Extraction: The breaking down of reagents into the signs and symbols which are present within them. If an alchemist misidentifies a sign or symbol, this will prove problematic, hence the importance of the prior step. For symbols with the aether sign, an alchemist must shred solids and pulverise them in an aurum pestle and mortar; for water signs they must saturate a raw solid reagent in distilled water, before crushing and shredding, or mix into distilled water if the reagent is a liquid; earth signs necessitate the grinding and shredding of reagents with a half-proportion of salt until a dull powder, upon which the salt may be sieved out; fire signs must be ground to the consistency of sawdust and then burned slowly until ash; air signs must have their raw reagents dried out, crushed and ground into a dust, then compressed, decompressed, then blown through a bellows. Symbols sat within distilled water may be boiled off to retrieve their powdered form, and all powdered symbols may be separated by a series of processes, which are not detailed in lore for some reason. I like to sieve my symbols, then use heat, centrifugal force and magnetism to separate them into individual counts.

Mixing: The combination of extracted symbols into a ‘base’ substance, which serves to facilitate alchemical reactions, but the symbols and signs of which do not impact the potion. Bases typically consist of distilled water, lard or aqua vitae, but other recipes call for liquid mana, blood or even ectoplasm. Many basic potions or similar substances, do not have specified orders in which their symbols must be mixed, but more complex creations will have very specific recipes. In any case, each count of a symbol must be slowly added to the base and stirred thoroughly, so as to enable stable alchemical reaction, and minimise the risk of rapid destabilisation.

Many alchemical creations are typically referred to as ‘potions’ although a number of solid substances can be created such as ‘flash powder’ and even gaseous things such as “arctic mists”. These creations have numerous applications, from the medicinal, to utility, to even combative and harmful ends. When used in any such circumstances, a player must use 1 emote to retrieve a potion and 1 emote to drink, throw or otherwise use it, before emoting its effects and any effects which come after that.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

There is no casting so to speak in alchemy, so I’ll do some potion-making emotes for Arcana Flow, because they’re pretty fun too.

Lulu filled the bronze retort with fresh water, then set it over a burner, which she lit with a splint. There as it slowly heated through, she plucked the petals from her cutting of Elf’s hair vine and dropped them into a mortar, soon then beginning to bruise and grind them down with the pestle. Upon turning the pale petals into a fine powder, she poured them through a funnel into a conical flask and then opened a bottle of clear liquid, which smelled strongly of alcohol. Adding this to the ground reagent, she removed the funnel and swilled the contents around to produce a cloudy mixture.

Moving along the counter to a free spot, she lit another burner and set the conical flask atop a tripod and gauze, to begin heating its contents through. The Dwarf then returned to resuming grinding up other reagents, while the first reduced down. By the time the boggy mixture had reduced to a grit in the flask’s bottom, she was able to begin extracting her other reagents. There she prepared a sieve and added the powdered symbols into it, sifting through carefully to begin separating the individual counts of each symbol.

By the time the lass had finished extracting and dividing up her reagents, the large flask connected to her retort had filled with distilled water. Setting the retort aside, she then hauled up the flask of water and emptied it into a pot, which she set over the burner to heat through. From a pouch in her apron then she retrieved a bottle of an oily vivid blue substance, then uncorked its neck. Her amber eyes narrowed some as she carefully poured the liquid mana into the distilled water and stirred and folded it in slowly with a silver rod.

After bringing the base to a boil and then reducing it to a gentle simmer, she brought over the small bowls of her individual symbols. Plucking the fine powder of Purity from its dish, she sprinkled it in a little at a time, then took a few moments to stir thoroughly. Soonafter Lulu deposited her Clarity and Connection symbols, stirring those in as well. With a roll of her shoulders, she waited patiently to ensure the potion was stable, before proceeding to add her Grace and Endurance symbols, then stirred them in evenly. After a further hour over a gentle heat, she snuffed out the burner and allowed the potion to cool before bottling.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

The Umgorumm waddled on up to the worktable, which was a clutter of parchment and dishes of raw reagents. “Wha’sall thissy?” she scoffed, looking up to her apprentice, some few feet taller than her.

“I’m trying to identify the properties of liquid essence, but it’s not listed in any books,” the younger lad replied with a frustrated tone, his shoulders flagging as he panned to Lulu.

She shook her head, eyes comically magnified behind the lenses of her goggles. “Well i’s not all gunny be in books yea silly bugger,” she chided with a snort, “Gotty get year hands dirteh sometimes.” Taking the dish of oily turquoise essence, Lulu cleared a space from the surrounding parchments and books with a rustling of paper. There she placed it down and retrieved a magnifying lens from the pouch at the front of her apron.

The apprentice watched with a slight frown, thoroughly displeased with the state of alchemical literature upon Almaris.

“Alrigh’.. Have uh looky't wi’ this..” Offering up the lense, the Dwarf then motioned to the dish of liquid mana, as it swirled endlessly in its dish, almost like smoke.

He blinked some, but clasped the lens in his finger and thumb, then sat down upon a stool to hunch over the table. Through the lens he peered down at the strange substance, “It moves fluidly.. More so than water..”

The Dwarf rolled her broad shoulders, “Aye thatty do..” She watched patiently, then folding her arms over her chest.

“Lighter than water.. So.. maybe air?” His brows lifted and he glanced to his master for clarification then, still new to the nuances of identifying his own reagents.

“Air an’ wha’?” the lass blinked back through magnified lenses. “I’s made o’mana isn’ it?”

The apprentice’s brows knitted together as he looked back, examining the soft glow about the reagent. “It’s magical.. Almost pure magic.. Aether?”

Lulu chuckled at that and gave the stubble of her jaw a scratch. “Think all ah know aboot alchemy from books? Keep goin’..” she snorted, offering a boyish grin. “Migh’ take yea all day, but once yea finish year gunny kick yearself fer thinkin’ some crumbly ol' Umri wrote't doon.”

Pouring over the sample, the apprentice continues to examine it throughout the day, under lenses of various magnification, whilst attempting to stir and experiment with the liquid mana. Eventually he identifies its symbols.

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

Firstly, I speak with the student and verify what potion or process it was that they powergamed. I would then talk them through the mechanics and redlines of that specific area, and ensure they have access to up-to-date lore, and help to explain those matters in simple terms if possible to better help clarify where they went wrong.

Should they go on to continue powergaming, I would speak with an ST about appropriate action.

most nations are organized in their own discord server especially

This is something I didn't understand back in the day in Athera. I wondered how to contact people to get a home, without realising there was a Skype chat for just Cerulin. Eventually I realised when I became a Druid and was invited to that Skype chat but until then it was a mystery. Linking invites to nations with public discords could help with this.

Question- Do new players spawn on the new tutorial island? Or will they spawn at CT? I feel like they should spawn on the island to ensure they don't miss it. Not like any veteran player remaking a persona will mind running to the end.
