  1. Definitely no artifical antagonist like "hurr durr, this guy wants us hurt, oh noes". The most important advantage of online roleplay is that it makes plausible conflicts (thus politics, history and by it also culture etc.) and I believe there is the greatest fun. I don't mean simple battles or "conflict" in that straightforward meaning, but the one that stimulates politics, diplomacy, subterfuge and trades. I believe it is very, very simple technique and as such very effective - show limited resources to players, amount that is needed to achieve "Prize" and is not sufficient for everyone. That "Prize" may be parts of machinery needed to activate an ancient golem factory, magical crystals-keys used to lock crypt of long-dead hero, magical artifacts that needs to be once again filled with energy so that a great ritual may be performed. It does not have to give some nadnatural powers to "the winners" - it may be prestigious location, great symbol or even a interest from some nation from overseas. There are very, hm, crude examples, but I believe you get the idea. There is fine example of it in cRPGs mades by Piranha Bytes, both in Gothic and Risen series - a player had to collect 5 Focus Stones in Gothic 1 (and get Uriziel, fill it with magic), slay 4 dragons in Gothic 2 (and repair and fill with magic Eye of Innos) and in G2: Night of the Raven had to collect five ancient stones, in Gothic 3 had to collect 5 artifact of Adanos (and earn trust of few factions on the way), then in Risen there were ancient stones once again... It was, of course, made for single-player, but in the background you had different factions wanted those items for different reasons. Something like that have also different virtues - for example, it is very easy to spread it to different regions, nations, realms and cultures. And that is another thing i expect from story in online game - a chance for everyone to participate. Of course it doesn't have to be events made by GM to every single player, but as there are factions involved, game almost "play itself" - faction's officials make orders, write new laws and there are many players participating "just because" (because that's how faction works, is it not?). Good story does not require gamemasters to be directly involved and make narrow plot; it's enough to simply stimulate players and care that things done by one group affects others.
  2. Oh my god, thank you. As new player I had very hard time finding useful, clear, legibile texts nad not it looks like something actually to read.

  4. Feeling invisible, a newcomer stays out of the main streets, avoiding both august and unkind noble elves. He kept begging even as he heard an official announcement about carnival. He knew about It before, but couldn't actually do anything and he didn't do anything now neither - he just kept believing that The Librarian will kept her word and let him know, if he could be of service. After all, it's not like he should bother Princess with his intrusive need of being a citizen.
  5. Simple beggar, lured by loud voices to the scene of violence, saw only a simple nobleman being attacked by Druids - Druids who, one would think, were not masters of this city. He saw the man bleeding and was completely ignored by whole crowd, when - after drama - he offered a healing exlir for poor victim. What could he think? They say that Celein is a safe Sanctuary and yet people from far away could just walk in and kill anyone they like. What is more, announcement was made by Orsino, man that he couldn't find anywhere to deal with matters of citizenship and yet a man that finds time to turn back on his people. He was disturbed, loitering on the Celein's streets. He, hovewer, kept his mouth shut about the case, when he got back to his beggar's work.
  6. I've been playing yesterday at night (as soon as my app was accepted) and today, both when there were 20-30 players and 50+. I'm from Europe, so it's 6 hours difference, but someone said there actually is "large european playerbase".
  7. Ok, I don't wan to be that guy who's everyone's pain in the ass, but I'm confused and can't find help anywhere (tried searching wiki, forum, asking on chat in game and spend about 5 hours total on TS "help" channel, but no one came). I'm new and wanted to develop character from scratch - that means getting knowledge in-game and not on the forum, wandering through world to places that actually people will point me and not engage in advertisements of guild and factions of which my character should have no idea. Cool story, I think, but I can't find no one to play with - I've explored city of Al-Wakrah, but there was literally no one, so I've came to Cloud Temple and there stood for hours, yelling about how I want to work just for food and maybe minas and shelter. I had 3 conversations total, two fruitless and one that was leading to actually something ended up with other player logging off (escaping from a fight, I think?). I just don't know where to find someone to play with, some place to anchor myself in the first few days. I don't want to post ooc aplications to guilds with people I dont know IC nor OOC. Or maybe I'm just doing something wrong?

(if so we can help clear it up!): How did you find out about Lord of the Craft?: I've just Googled for Minecraft roleplay servers. Link(s) to past Whitelist Applications (If applicable): - Definitions What is roleplaying?: Roleplaying is an act of impersonating character or participatin in roleplay game, which roots lies within classic tabletop RPGs. What is metagaming?: Metagaming is abuse of information aquired OOC way, i.e. through forum discussions or private conversasions. What is powergaming?: Powergaming is going behind borders of ones character in the act of roleplaying, i.e. using perfective descriptions about other players' characters. In-Character Information Character’s name: (what do you want your character to be called?) Vasemir Rashid Character’s sex: (male or female?) Male Character’s race: (you can find all the playable races here.) Human, Farfolk Character’s age: (upon application, your character must be 18 or older, and depending on the race, they can be over five hundred years old!) 20 Biography Born in some village north of Al-Wakrah, where you see nothing but sand and use only stars and far mountains to navigation, Vasemir was a son of simple scribe, who worked for lord in nearby castle. Boy was spending his days serving for noble family and their warriors, keeping their equipement clean and horses fed. When he became young teenager, his father's decent position and wealth allow him to be teached by one of Allah's priests. However he was quite eager to know the alphabet, to hear old stories of Vailor, Athera and great city Al-Dirakh, he wasn't that fascinated about dogmatic view of the Creator and divine duty - and right - of every landlord. When he heard about knights fighting with Allah on their lips, he cheered for evil warlocks casting powerful spells; when he was told about greatness of holy man and their deeds, he always kept asking "how?", "why?" and "what for?". Their landlord was the reason to it. That was a mysterious, fierce man, who could surely acomplish something great, If only he had rich earth instead of desert and merchants from trade route instead of god-forgotten peasants. It was soon after Vasemir grew up and moved from his parents to a simple hut, working as a local merchant assistant, when their lord became even grimmer. In years to come people in the village started disappearing - first prisoners, then random travellers and in the end even villagers. It was an open secret that the lord was using blood magic to upkeep his position in that hard times, so when Vasemir's parents became ill because of some disease, twenty-year-old man went to his sovereign to beg for help. He was refused and forced to watch his parents vanished day by day and die in the end after weeks of suffering. Full of anger and grief, few nights later he stole some gold and traveling equipement both from his employer and his lord and ran away. There was nothing but death waiting for him in his homeland. Personality Traits: (what are your character's quirks?; habits?; likes and dislikes?) He's young and as such he's quite liable to great visions, ideas, plans and dreams - he could've been even naive if not for disappointement he experienced. He may have some kind of provincial complex - remembering only small nobles and lower officials, he's kinda overwhelmed by presence of powerful barons, high priests or famous persons and he want to match them in every way, even if he has yet no fashion taste or doesn't know proper etiquette. But even if he's absorbing ideas and behaviours quite mindlessly now, he's fascinated of giant size of the world, filled with mysteries, wonders and rich history. As such, he's always paying attention, he's always willing to discuss different theories and willing to welcome random travellers. His interest about blood magic is leading him though the world and he want's to find a proper teacher so badly, someone could call him obsessed. Ambitions: (what does your character aspire to be?) Young man with nothing to lose is hunger for everything - knowing the world, earning gold, gaining respect. But the thing he desires the most is understanding of magic, especially blood magic he heard so much about and believe it's so powerful. How could he doubt that? If he did, he would have to admit that maybe his parents were beyond saving. Strengths/Talents: He's a strong-willed, determined for his goal fast-learner. As a merchant's employee, he picked up some social tricks and manipulative features, so fast-talk is one of his advantages. Weaknesses/Inabilities: He's from village far, far away and even he was teached, he doesn't know much about world that surrounds him. He really wants to gain this knowledge - maybe even at all cost and foul steps to it may irreversibly corrupt him. Appearance: Young man wearing Southerer's robes, rich in colours and patterns, look quite older than he really is because of long, black beard. He's quite tall, but slender; has darker skin then Northerers, but he's not as black as some of Qalasheens tribes. Blue eyes are still filled with youth's vigor, but they also have some kind of sadness in them. Two earring in one ear and silver ring show their owner's interest in jewelry. Life saved him from permament marks and his young face is not yet destroy by hot winds and sand from the desert. His gestures are brisk and wide, inviting to conversation or having a drink together. Skin: http://i.imgur.com/pEQ4EPL.png PS. I'm creating a pretty common adventurer, because I don't know your server yet and I want to have rather open options. Sadly, I couldn't find my way throught wiki and spend over 3 hours on TS "Help" channel, but got in fact no help (yup, a little butthurt), so I'm sorry for inconsistencies with the lore.
  9. Don't get me wrong - It's not liike I'm here to play cybersex with 15yo players... I was just wondering what's the general attitude towards more serious themes (especially when there are thing like Dark Arts, corruption etc.). It-s 4-year-old laptop and I'll probably have low fps in larger cities, but I was more concered about latency between Europe and US. Intel Core i3 2.1 GHz, 4GB RAM, Radeon HD 6490M + Intel HD Thanks, Jonificus, but on the other hand Japzzi says he had problems with reading my post. I haven't played roleplay in any but my native language yet, so I don't know how it'll be. Thanks for your answers - if there actually are players from Europe, then probalby I won't have many tech problems either. I'll probably buy game and join you soon.
  10. It's hard to say I'm new to the community, because I'm still wondering If I really should join it. I'm 24yo huge RPG and cRPG fan, familiar with roleplay, but rather new to multiplayer Minecraft. Hell, I don't even have a legal copy of It yet and so I'm wondering if this is really server for me. Why? Because from where I come from Minecraft players are usually tied with foolish children, bad sense of humour and essence of immaturity in general. In fantasy and roleplay prefer grim, dark worlds, like those of World of Darkness series, Shadowrun, Gothic or The Witcher. I understand It's PG-13 and there should be no cybersex, but banning prostitute or sex from roleplaying - is it actually the thing on the server, or in smaller communities/guild/factions of adult players there are more obscure scenes and motives? I can't imagin anyone is up to i.e. really interesting tortures or deep mental ilness, If you say no-no to simple prostitute. Again, as I said, I'm rather new to Minecraft multiplayer. On the other hand, I've made a pretty successful PBF game and co-managed Gothic roleplay server, so I suppose I'm rather familiar with most limitations and problems in online roleplaying. Furthermore, I'm from Europe and I'm a little bit scared of lags. Maybe it's not big deal when it comes to roleplay, but I've read that wars and fights are not 100% roleplayed, but they take place in PvP - game engine, I suppose? - and It'd sad to loose just because of geography. Of course I have no option to check if I actually will have lags, cause I need damn full, legal copy to test it (and that's probably the most important thing that holds me from buying game). Last thing - I'm not native english speaker. So... what do you think?
