Character’s name: Ifan Ben-Medz Character’s sex: Male Character’s race: Human Character’s age: 22 Biography : Ifan was born the 4th of Sun's Smile, 1563, in the outskirts of Johannesburg, capital of the Holy Oren Empire. First son of a Farfolk immigrant and a Heartlander woman, his earliest memories are of hard work under the sun, tilling the earth and learning how to work the land. Life for him was hard, sometimes suffering to hunger due to the scarce finances of his family, as half of the Ben-Medz harvest belonged to the local landlord, and the remaining half was barely enough to sustain the growing family, yet the village was a truly peaceful place and Ifan lived serenely until the age of 11. On the 17th of Malin's Welcome, 1584, his mother took him and his two younger brothers on a fishing trip on the nearby lake, yearning to catch some trouts that could have been sold at the market for a few coppers. The fishing expedition ended in a disaster as the boat the quartet was on was upturned by nearby lurking Vodkins, who used their powerful sedative and dragged Ifan's siblings and mother under the dark waters. The young boy barely managed to escape with his life and limbs intact, tears freely streaming down his face as he ran, his clothes wet and his hair damp, back to the village. This tragic event completely changed both Ifan and his father, who used to be a kind and hard-working man, but turned into a hateful drunkard due to the sheer grief he felt. Ifan's father became abusive and stopped working, instead wasting himself and his coin on cheap liquors. Ifan worked hard and managed, thanks to dedication to the soil and a few petty thefts, to earn enough coin to survive for the following four years. The boy, now grown into a teenager, was beaten often by his father and became resentful of the other people in the village, as they did not react to it nor helped him monetarely. Unable to continue this lifestyle, filled with hatred for his father and his compatriots, the 9th of Winter's Maiden, 1588, Ifan stabbed his father in the back with a stolen knife and set fire to two houses and his own dwelling, before running away amidst the snow. Deemed a kinslayer, a thief and a murderer, Ifan was soon wanted by the local authorities, but the boy was nowhere to be found. Ifan travelled east for a few days, avoiding the road and wild-animals alike, keeping to himself, until he was assaulted by a group of bandits while he was on the way to Lorraine, knowing that there he could have jumped on a boat and reached Haria. Instead, he surrendered himself to the bandits, who took his meager belongings and offered him a simple choice: to join them or starve in the woods. For the following 7 years Ifan roamed and raided with the small group of outlaws, and with each victory the unlawful company grew in numbers, riches and equipment. While truly never taking to this lifestyle, Ifan obeyed nonetheless and carried on to survive, burning and pillagings farms. Their roaming took the company North, when their leader took a scarcely-guarded Iron deposit as his mark. It was a good occasion to arm the small group with proper weapons, and the decision was taken. The whole thing turned out to be a farce, a trap organized by the Golden Crows to capture any fool that wanted to try his luck. The small group of outlaws were cornered, disarmed, and hanged to the nearby tree for their efforts. Ifan was not among them, as once again he made his escape when things turned out foul. Alone once again, Ifan made his way towards the Crownlands. Personality Traits: Ifan is stubborn and scornful, having learned to rely on himself since a young age. He detests sycophants and truly believes that every human is a selfish, twisted knave that either accepts who he is or lies about it. Overt displays of loyalty, such as the honors given to the Emperor, irritate and annoy him. He is, at the same time, intrigued by the ones he finds acting similar to himself, and observes them. Ben-Medz always trusts his own judgement and is not swayed by the opinion of others, acting as he sees fit. Ambitions: Believing that there is no hidden meaning to life, Ifan doesn't plan out in advance and acts on the moment. Thus, he has no lasting ambition and does what keeps him interested and allows him, at the same time, to survive. Strengths/Talents: Ben-Medz is quite agile and a skilled knife-wielder. He knows how to move silently, has studied how to lockets work and how to pick them, and can track game in a forest. His past as a bandit also taught him the ways of torture, a good and rightful method to ask information, and gave him the stomach to endure the bloodletting sessions. Good liar. Weaknesses/Inabilities: Ifan can't read or write properly, having never been taught how to do so. He's stubborn and possesses little to no respect for authority. His name, unless forgotten by his compatriots, marks him as a murderer and outlaw. His tone is more often than not sarcastic, and his face often betrays the contempt in which he holds other people. Appearance: Ifan looks like the average Crownlander, if not for a very light brown tint, marking his Farfolk heritage. His face is round shaped with well defined figures, his eyes hazel colored and his hair black, and he stands at the slightly below average height of 5'8''. His ragged clothes mark his status as a commoner, and he always keeps a knife strapped to his back, hidden beneath the heavy cloth.
